Piers Morgan concluded his final broadcast of Piers Morgan Live on Friday by addressing a topic that has become synonymous with this British TV personality: Gun control. The anchor famously went off on a pro-gun panel after a Naval Yard shooting in September. And, even more famously following the tragedy in Newtown in December 2012, asked ” how many more kids have to die ?” before America adopts similar gun laws to those of other first world nations. Here’s a look at what Morgan had to say to wrap up his show last night: Piers Morgan Gun Control Plea And for those who are more visual, here is a transcript of the highlights: I assumed that after 70 people were shot in a movie theater, and then, just a few months later, 20 first-graders were murdered with an assault rifle in an elementary school, the absurd gun laws in this country would change. But nothing has happened. The gun lobby in America, led by the NRA, has bullied this nation’s politicians into cowardly, supine silence. Even when 20 young children are blown away in their classrooms.This is a shameful situation that has made me very angry. So angry, in fact, that some people have criticized me for being too loud, opinionated, even rude when I have debated the issue of guns. But I make no apologies for that. As Sir Winston Churchill said: ‘If you have an important point to make, don’t try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time – a tremendous whack.’ My point is simple: More guns doesn’t mean less crime, as the NRA repeatedly says. It means more gun violence, death and profits for the gun manufacturers. And to those who claim my gun control campaigning has been “anti-American,” the reverse is true. The 41-year-old is determined to stay out of the public eye for at least half a year as she comes to terms with the inevitable, but still painful conscious uncoupling . The star, who was pictured embracing former boyfriend Donovan Leitch months before her separation, is considering pulling out of any acting and promotional work. Her focus is helping her children, Apple, 9, and 7, seven, deal with the situation. A source said that Gwyneth has been “rocked,” in particular, by the fact that “her friendships with men are being cited as possible causes for their split.” As a result, ”She has told her people she wants to retreat from any public life for six months and live as a recluse. Her focus is her kids as they face the trauma.” The children “heading back to school with all the headlines” is certainly a concern, and you can’t blame Paltrow for wanting to dial back the exposure. On the flip side, you have to wonder why she invited so much of it with the statement announcing their separation on Gwyneth’s website GOOP this week. The Coldplay frontman, who’s been linked to Alexa Chung , was reportedly “really miffed” with Gwyneth because he didn’t want to make this so public. They’re united on at least one front, though. And we thought Harlem rats were big. SMH. Swedish Family Catches And Kills 16 Inch Rat Nicknamed Putin In Trap Rats are apparently a big problem in Sweden. A giant one was recently put down in the kitchen of one Swedish family, but only after it had managed to scare the living daylights out of them and earn the nickname Putin . A Swedish family captured these photos of a 16-inch rat that initially refused to die after being caught in a trap while scurrying around their kitchen. The giant pest tried to make an escape with the metal trap still snapped around its neck, running behind Signe Bengtsson-Korsas’ kitchen cabinets, The Sun reported . It was eventually found lifeless behind their dishwasher. “It was a monster, the worst thing I have ever seen,” she told the British tabloid . “In the end we managed to find it dead, it had slowly strangled,” her husband Erik said. “Then we felt a bit sorry for it.” The family told The Sun that pest control workers showed up a few hours earlier to set up the deadly trap at their home in Solna, a suburb of Stockholm. They first discovered the rodent after it gnawed through a pipe, flooding the kitchen. They initially thought a mouse did the damage after they witnessed their pet cat Enoch standing guard in the pantry. When the gigantic rat eventually darted out startling Bengtsson-Korsas when she went to empty the trash, she and her cat ran for the hills. “We were all terrified, I thought it was going to bite my toes,” her son Justus told The Sun. The Bengtsson-Korsas’ believe the rat entered their home through a ventilation pipe, which they’ve since blocked off with a brick. Can you imagine??? I’ve started to come to terms with the fact that I’ll probably never get invited to any black tie events or charity balls, or pretty much anywhere with an open bar and a no sweatpants policy.
