Britney Spears Is A VMA ‘Icon,’ Sabi Says

Carter, with reporting by Christina Garibaldi Britney Spears performs at the 2001 VMAs Photo: Getty Images Fans are eagerly anticipating the Britney Spears tribute at Sunday’s Video Music Awards — and you can count Sabi among those die-hards. Spears’ Femme Fatale Tour opening act and “(Drop Dead) Beautiful” collaborator said it’s definitely fitting that Spears will be feted at the awards show. “I think it’s awesome,” the singer/songwriter told MTV News. “I personally have been able to watch firsthand how she’s worked her butt off. She’s been in the game for a minute. She’s an icon. It’s well overdue.” Go behind the scenes as Britney films her 2011 VMA promo. So what Spears songs would Sabi like to see in the tribute? Her picks: “I’m Slave 4 U,” “Toxic” and Brit’s breakout hit, ” … Baby One More Time.” “She has so many catchy, great records,” she added. As for Spears herself, she told MTV News that her favorite VMA memory was that infamous lip-lock with Madonna back in 2003. “My greatest experience — probably being with Madonna,” she told MTV News. “The kiss was amazing. … Being onstage with someone of that caliber is just iconic.” Spears is up for two Moonmen at the 2011 VMAs, including Best Pop Video and Best Choreography. Sabi will get her first taste of the VMAs when she performs the dance hit “You Make Me Feel … ” with Cobra Starship during the VMA Pre-Show . “I always say this: Like, someone needs to pinch me,” Sabi said of performing as part of the show. “Just know that the guys and the one girl, we’ve all performed a bunch of times with each other and just know that this is going to be different than anything I’ve ever done.” The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live Sunday, August 28, from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT, following the Selena Gomez-hosted pre-show at 8. Lady Gaga Wants VMA Performance To Be ‘A Surprise’

‘I’m pretty good at knowing what my fans want me to do,’ she says about her plans for Sunday’s Video Music Awards. By Christina Garibaldi Lady Gaga Photo: MTV News In only two years, Lady Gaga has become the face of the MTV Video Music Awards , and on Sunday, she will continue to cement her place as a VMA icon . Mother Monster will be opening this year’s big show , and viewers are sure to be both wowed and inspired. “I’m really very honored and excited to open the show,” Lady Gaga told MTV News. “But I won’t reveal anything; I want it to be a surprise.” If it’s anything like Gaga’s 2009 VMA performance of “Paparazzi,” her fans will not be disappointed. “It will be a continuation of everything I’ve been doing, and it will be exactly what they want,” Gaga said of her performance. “I’m pretty good at knowing what my fans want me to do.” Gaga joins a long list of memorable VMA opening acts , including Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, and Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera joining Madonna onstage for a kiss. So, what was Gaga’s reaction to joining this legendary list? “I was just really excited and I was really happy because they asked me after I told them what I wanted to do,” Gaga said. “So it was even more exciting because I knew that it was based off the performance idea and MTV believing in me as an artist and they have, and I appreciate that, from the beginning. They always allowed me to do my version of pop music and not someone else’s.” While we won’t see what Gaga has in store until Sunday night, she said she hopes the audience is “moved.” The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live Sunday from Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT, following the Selena Gomez-hosted pre-show at 8. Katy Perry, Lil Wayne And More (Possible) VMA Winners

Bigger Than the Sound guesses who will take home Sunday’s biggest Moonmen. By James Montgomery Katy Perry Photo: Graham Denholm/ Getty Images The 2011 MTV Video Music Awards will air live on MTV this Sunday at 9 p.m. ET, but if you’re a Katy Perry fan, well, you probably knew that already. After all, the California Gurl is the most-nominated artist at this year’s VMAs, leading the pack with an eye-opening 10 nods, including Best Female Video, Best Pop Video and the biggie, Video of the Year. Following closely behind her are the likes of Adele, Kanye West and Bruno Mars, but really, all eyes will be on Perry. Will she take home her first-ever Moonman? Will she sweep the night’s major categories? And, most importantly of all, what color will her hair be? Of course, KP’s not the only story line heading into Sunday’s show: Can Gaga win the only major award she’s up for? Can Tyler, the Creator shock the world? Luckily, I’m here to provide answers. Much like I’ve done in previous years (and mostly because I have a rather insatiable gambling addiction), I’m throwing on the old prognostication cap and trying my hand at picking the winners in all the major VMA categories. Of course, while I can’t guarantee my accuracy, I can promise you that I spent, like, 25 minutes on this, which is a pretty thorough investment. Oh, and for the record, I’m going with “puce” for Katy’s hair color. The rest of my picks right now: Best Male Video

Kevin Federline: Should He Get a Vasectomy?

Kevin Federline just became a dad for the fifth time. Congratulations are in order. As are questions of when and with whom the guy is going to procreate next. When Victoria Prince bore him a son named Jordan Kay – interestingly, Kacey Jordan claims to have aborted his baby once – she became his third baby mama. K-Fed has also sired two children by Shar Jackson, and two more with Britney Spears (who will be paying for all five). We get the point, dude, You are fertile. You are also a morbidly obese, jobless waste of space. At some point, how many more kids should one bring into the world? All of which begs the question … Should K-Fed get a vasectomy? Kanye West, Jay-Z’s Watch The Throne Scores Huge On Billboard

Album sold 436,000 in its first week, including a record 290,000 on iTunes. By Gil Kaufman Jay-Z and Kanye West Photo: Johnny Nunez/ WireImage The Throne will get a royal reception on the Billboard 200 albums charts next week. Watch the Throne , the superstar hookup between Kanye West and Jay-Z , sold more than 436,000 copies in its first week, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan, putting up the second-biggest debut sales week of the year so far, behind Lady Gaga ‘s Born This Way, which moved 1.1 million. Thanks to a three-day iTunes exclusive that launched last Monday (August 8-10), the pair also reportedly broke the record for the biggest iTunes debut ever, selling almost 290,000 digital copies, enough to beat out former record-holder Coldplay ‘s Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, which sold 282,000 copies in 2008. According to Billboard , with 321,000 total downloads, Throne is second only to Born This Way (662,000) for the biggest digital week ever. See what fans thought of the Watch the Throne pop-up store, which appeared in NYC last week. The album might have sold more, but some experts said its staggered release — following the iTunes exclusive, it was available to all digital and physical sellers on Friday, giving fans only two days to snatch it up before SoundScan’s tracking week ended on Sunday — may have curtailed its first-week sales potential. Either way, it’s a huge score for both rappers, earning Jay his 12th #1 album and Kanye his fifth. There are a few other debuts in the top 10, but they pale in comparison to the Throne numbers. Country singer Luke Bryan ‘s Tailgates & Tanlines comes in at #2 (145,000), the Now 39 compilation is just behind at #3 (110,000) and rapper Ace Hood hits #8 with Blood Sweat & Tears (26,000). The rest of the top 10: Adele ‘s 21 (#4, 73,000), Eric Church ‘s Chief (#5, 37,000), Jason Aldean ‘s My Kinda Party (#6, 36,000), Beyonc
