Tyler, The Creator Thinks His VMA Rivals ‘Suck’

‘If I lose to any of those wackass videos, I’m gonna be mad because they all suck — except for Adele’s,’ Tyler tells MTV News. By Rob Markman Tyler The Creator Photo: MTV News Tyler, the Creator bites his tongue for no one. Some call him evil, others, unbelievable. So when asked about his feelings on his 2011 MTV VMA Video of the Year nomination, Tyler simply spoke his mind. “I’m really excited, shout out to Ron Artest. If I lose to any of those wackass videos, I’m gonna be mad because they all suck — except for Adele ‘s,” he told MTV News. The Odd Future standout’s self-directed “Yonkers” video is up against Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep,” Beastie Boys’ “Make Some Noise,” Bruno Mars’ “Grenade” and Katy Perry ‘s “Firework.” The “Yonkers” clip, which was uploaded to the Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All’s YouTube page back in February, has since racked up 15 million views. Most noted for the scene in which the rapper hangs himself in the end, the “Yonkers” video has become one of the most talked about and debated works of the year. It earned Tyler a Best New Artist nom as well. While the Cali rapper/producer/director is more respectful of his fellow Best New Artist nominees, he still wants to win that one too. Up against indie poppers Foster the People (“Pumped Up Kicks”), Big Sean (“My Last”), Kreayshawn (“Gucci Gucci”) and Wiz Khalifa (“Black and Yellow”), Tyler will let his guard down just a bit in this category. “The Best New Artist thing, that’s cool. Wiz is a really good dude and I’ve been a fan of his music, so if he wins I’ll be pretty excited. I wanna win that for sure, but Wiz is awesome, I’ve been listening to him since ’08,” he said. “Even Kreayshawn, she’s cool. So if she wins that too, I’ll be pretty stoked. But you know, I wanna win, I’m just gonna keep it 100.” Snagging a VMA has been a goal of the “Sandwitches” MC for months. He has been tweeting feverishly about it, but even he was surprised when he actually heard the nominations announcement. After the group manager called the entire OFWGKTA to a meeting, Tyler grew weary. “We were like, ‘What the f— does he have us here for?’ We were ready to leave. Then the VMA nomination thing came on and I was on my phone and I was like, ‘Oh crap I want to see what wack videos they have this time,’ ” Tyler recalled of his skepticism before being hit with the news. “Then they said my name and was talkin’ about it and I was like ‘What the hell?’ I kinda stopped breathing, I was just sitting there. I was kinda shaking. I don’t know, it was surreal.” The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live on Sunday, August 28, from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Handling Panhandlers: Ways To Give Without Getting Got

So you’re sitting on the subway, minding your business, flipping through a new romance novel (or real talk, nodding off to it), when through your car walks an individual in need. Their attire is a bit on the grimy side, and they’re shaking a cup near your face asking you to help them. What do you do? Depends on the person right? It also depends on your mood. You can choose to pull out your dollars, and/or your hard-earned quarters usually reserved for laundry day, OR keep that head down and say to yourself, “maybe next time.” Giving is an awesome thing to do, and it also makes you feel awesome too for the most part, but with scam artists out on the streets begging and then driving off in Volvo’s, people are becoming less and less willing to quickly provide a handout. Here are rules you need to know when dealing with panhandlers, and also some tips to help you determine when to give, how to say no, and how to help someone in need on the streets without going broke or getting played. Bruno Mars Covers Billboard Mag And Talks About That Cocaine “Cloud That Constantly Follows” Him

Aw look at lil Bruno “Yayo Face” Mars gettin’ his shine on! The caught-carrying-coca crooner covers the latest issue of Billboard Magazine and inside explains his rise to fame, his battle to overcome the damage done by his cocaine possession arrest and even working with Kanye West and Jay-Z on Watch the Throne . In case you didn’t already know Bruno also isn’t his real name… He was born Peter Gene Hernandez in Honolulu to a Filipino singer and a Puerto Rican-born percussionist raised in Brooklyn. Young Peter moved to Los Angeles in his late teens. He regularly played shows at dive bars on Ventura Boulevard. “To about six people,” he says. “All related, of course.” Bruno eventually landed an artist deal with Universal Motown, only to be dropped a year later. “I wasn’t ready for it,” he says. “I did nothing. And the lesson was — why are you waiting for someone to come and write a song with you? You know how to play the freakin’ guitar. Do it on your own.” Keep reading for more…

Bruno Mars Fans Brave Rain For ‘Today’ Performance

Mars performed ‘Lazy Song,’ ‘Just the Way You Are’ and more at ‘Today’ show performance in Rockefeller Center. By Danielle Genet Bruno Mars performs on “Today” on Friday Photo: Jemal Countess/Getty Images NEW YORK — Rainy, misty weather did not stop Bruno Mars “hooligans” from attending his concert at the Plaza at Rockefeller Center early Friday morning (June 24) for the “Today” show. Fans came from all around the country, some even camping out since 10 p.m. the previous night, hoping to catch a glimpse of the Grammy Award winner. Mars didn’t disappoint, performing his hits “The Lazy Song,” “Runaway Baby” and “Just the Way You Are” off of his debut album, Doo-Wops & Hooligans. “He’s an amazing singer, performer. [His Grammy win] makes me like him even more,” fan Kathy Ramos, who had been waiting since 1 a.m., said. Fans created hundreds of homemade signs hoping to catch Mars’ eye. Megan Carroll and Kayla Dee, both 16, lined up late Thursday night and were excited to see Mars perform. “We love him. We saw him a month ago and we needed to go again. The rain’s annoying, but it’s definitely worth it,” Carroll said. Munzath Ashraf and Sundus Arain, both 18, arrived around 4 a.m. for the show. “We love Bruno Mars and we want to make sure we get in,” Ashraf said. More than 2,000 fans arrived early this morning, surprising local police and even host Ann Curry, who proclaimed this concert was the “biggest crowd of the year” for the “Today” show concert series. The line to get inside the barricades wrapped around at least three blocks. But the limited space and the massive crowd left many fans unable to see the show. Even fans who had waited for hours weren’t able to get inside the barricade. Both Ashraf and Arain ended up leaving even before they saw Mars. “We are really disappointed. The stage was just too low to the ground and people were crying and trying to jump on our shoulders,” Ashraf explained. Mars hit the stage sleekly dressed in a black Dolce & Gabbana suit with a hot pink shirt and black tie along with dark shades, but without his signature short-brimmed fedora hat. The singer started his set with “The Lazy Song,” which really got the crowd amped. After his first song, Matt Lauer and Mars talked for a few minutes and commented on how much larger the crowd was today as compared to his last appearance on the show eight months ago. Mars, who continues to gain notoriety and success as a solo artist, told Lauer, “They’re making signs for me. I’m just happy I’m here. I really got lucky.” When asked if he plans to keep writing for other artists (Mars has previously written for Cee-Lo Green, B.o.B and Travie McCoy), Mars joked, “Absolutely not. I’m done,” and then added “Of course.” For his next song, Mars sang “Runaway Baby” and playfully danced along with his band. To close the set, Mars sang a jazzy rendition of “Just the Way You Are,” with the whole crowd singing along. And as if on cue, the rain really started to come as soon as Mars ended his set. Hip Hop Mogul Jimmy Henchman Is On The Run

Continued here:

A federal arrest warrant has been issued for hip hop mogul Jimmy “Henchman” Rosemond, who manages The Game, Brandy, Sean Kingston and Akon, among other artists. According to the NY Post , the warrant was issued last week for the Czar Entertainment chief after he was indicted for alleged involvement in cocaine distribution, and he has yet to be located. A law enforcement official confirmed that a fugitive warrant is out for Rosemond. In addition to managing the careers of several prominent artists, Jimmy Henchman has not shied away from speaking about his criminal past. Tupac Shakur also referenced the music mogul on his Makaveli album. It has been rumored that Tupac suspected Henchman of playing a role in the rapper’s 1994 shooting in New York, a charge Henchman has vehemently denied for years. “And did I mention / Promise to pay back Jimmy Henchmen / In due time / I know you bitch n*ggas is listenin’ / The world is mine!” — 2Pac aka Makaveli from “Against All Odds” Read the full story at NY Post . Rihanna, Chris Brown Booked For Today Show Summer Concert Series

Rihanna will kick off the Today show’s star-studded 2011 Summer Concert Series, which commences May 27. Also on the docket this season? Chris Brown! NBC apparently decided to overlook Brown’s Good Morning America meltdown , bringing the star on board for his own live performance airing July 15. Cee Lo Green and Bruno Mars will also hit the stage in the coming weeks, as will New Kids on the Block and the Backstreet Boys … together! Rihanna and Chris Brown are coming to Today … but not simultaneously . Additional Today performers will be announced as the summer continues, but the current list also includes Journey, Maroon 5 and Kenny Chesney. It’s nice that despite his GMA setback, Brown is still getting the chance to do what he used to and hopefully will be best known for again: singing. We’re just glad Teyana Taylor won’t be joining him.

Justin Bieber, Bruno Mars, Chris Colfer Make Time’s 100 Most Influential List

Amy Poehler, Blake Lively, and Prince William and Kate Middleton also on the list. By Gil Kaufman Justin Bieber Photo: Mark Von Holden/ WireImage What kind of list includes Justin Bieber alongside Vice President Joseph Biden, Prince William and Kate Middleton, and Oprah Winfrey? It must be Time magazine’s list of the 100 most influential people in the world. The annual count of the people who, for better or worse, make our world fascinating, includes an essay by mentor Usher extolling the virtues of the Biebs. “From the minute I met Justin, I knew this kid possessed a certain confidence that only a star could have,” wrote Usher. “He was born a star. He knew what he wanted to accomplish; all he had to do was get everyone else to believe it. Now, looking back at his incredible run, the reality of who he is and what he’s accomplished far exceeds anybody’s expectations of him. What’s interesting and will keep the world watching is that at the same time he’s having this incredible success, he’s like any other kid living a normal life.” In his typically impish style, “Parks & Recreation” co-star and comedian Aziz Ansari spent most of his 150 words in praise of series star and producer Amy Poehler , after complaining about an alleged real estate scam she pulled on him. “That said, I cannot say how much I admire and respect Amy Poehler,” he wrote. “In comedy, a lot of what you see feels derivative and uninspired; with Amy, 39, there is always something fresh and unexpected, and that’s why I love her work.” Director Baz Luhrmann marveled at actress Blake Lively for pulling off the unique trick of channeling the “vitality of youth — that indefinable, natural, unprocessed glamour full of possibility and filled with anticipation for an endless future.” Actress Glenn Close wrote of the talents of her “Albert Nobbs” co-star Mia Wasikowska (“Alice in Wonderland,” “The Kids Are All Right”), saying the 21-year-old is “a sun, not a satellite. She generates her own energy. She’s seductive because she’s not compelled to reveal everything. Her shyness has made her an acute observer. At the same time, she loves a good joke, loves to laugh and can suddenly have the boisterous physicality of a teenager. Mia will be many things in life and will defy expectation because she’s brilliant and curious and not fooled by what most people define as success.” When it comes to “Glee” star Chris Colfer, co-star Dianna Agron said the 20-year-old song-and-dance man “lives by extreme truth, speaking out against the epidemic of bullying that he, too, faced in high school. The honesty that he infuses into his ‘Glee’ character, Kurt, leaves you reeling.” Elsewhere, B.o.B writes of his pal Bruno Mars, 25, that the singer/songwriter “has a musicality, a presence in his voice that I’ve never heard from anyone else.” Among the others making the list were Google executive Wael Ghonim, credited with being the voice of the revolution in Egypt; Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg; WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange; Congresswoman and shooting victim Gabrielle Giffords; Sting; and President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. For the third year, South Korean pop superstar Rain made it onto the list as the result of a reader’s poll.
