Where Will Bruno Mars’ ‘Rain’ Fall In ‘Breaking Dawn’?

MTV News takes a closer listen to ‘It Will Rain’ for lyrical clues about its placement in the film. By Jocelyn Vena and Amy Wilkinson Bruno Mars Photo: Jemal Countess/Getty Images On Tuesday (September 27), Bruno Mars dropped the sweeping, heartbreaking “It Will Rain,” the lead single from the “Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” soundtrack , which drops November 8. The Smeezingtons-produced song is all about the pain someone feels when they are deeply in love. On it, Mars croons tortured lines like “There’s no religion that could save me/ No matter how long my knees are on the floor/ So keep in mind all the sacrifices I’m making/ To keep you by my side/ And keep you from walking out the door.” While Twilighters will have to wait until November 18 to find out where the song will be featured in the flick, there are several lyrical cues that offer hints. Hit play on the embedded video as we talk through the song, then read on for a deeper exploration. The Wedding Of course it won’t appear in the actual wedding scene, like when Bella walks down the aisle, but lines like “I’ll never be your mother’s favorite/ Your daddy can’t even look me in the eye/ If I was in their shoes I’d be doing the same/ Say, ‘There goes my little girl/ Walking with that troublesome guy’ ” certainly mirror Charlie’s feelings about the nuptials. Jacob’s Goodbye When Mars sings, “Don’t you say goodbye/ Don’t you say goodbye/ I’ll pick up these broken pieces till I’m bleeding/ If that’ll make it right,” it seems to mimic the heartbreak Jacob feels as he sees Bella marry another man and says goodbye to her once more. The Honeymoon Sure, the song is about heartbreak and pain, but the sexy, sultry nature of the track could make for the right kind of mood-setter as Bella and Edward finally get it on. The Pregnancy As Mars cries, ” ‘Cause there’ll be no sunlight/If I lose you, baby/ There’ll be no clear skies/ If I lose you, baby/ And just like the clouds, my eyes will do the same/ If you walk away, every day it’ll rain,” it mirrors Edward’s angst as he thinks he might lose Bella if she has their child, a vampire/human hybrid. ‘Breaking Dawn’ Soundtrack Track List Revealed

Iron & Wine, Christina Perri, Theophilus London join Bruno Mars on ‘Part 1′ album due November 8. By James Montgomery Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” Photo: Summit Entertainment We already knew about Bruno Mars’ involvement in the upcoming “Breaking Dawn” soundtrack . But now — officially — we know who will be joining him. Theophilus London, the Joy Formidable, Iron & Wine, Christina Perri and the Noisettes are just some of the acts confirmed for the “Dawn” soundtrack, which hits stores on November 8 (10 days before “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” bows in theaters). The full track list was unveiled Monday (September 26) afternoon on the official “Twilight” Twitter account, confirming speculations that sprung up over the weekend, when a listing of artists and songs began making the rounds on various fansites . Work by “Twilight”-series composer Carter Burwell and actress Mia Maestro (she plays Carmen of the Denali Cover in the “Breaking Dawn” films) also shows up on the soundtrack, as do songs by Angus and Julia Young, the Features, the Belle Brigade and Cider Sky. All in all, there are 15 tracks on the album, and all — aside from a “Wedding Version” of Iron & Wine’s “Flightless Bird, American Mouth” (as any good Twilighter will tell you, the original version of the song appeared on the first “Twilight” soundtrack) and an updated take on Noisettes’ “Sister Rosetta” — are new. The “Breaking Dawn” soundtrack follows in the footsteps of the ultra-successful 2008 “Twilight” ‘track (which featured new songs from Paramore and Perry Farrell), ’09’s “New Moon” (which boasted a new track by Death Cab for Cutie and contributions from Thom Yorke and Lykke Li) and last year’s “Eclipse,” which packed in tunes from Muse, Florence and the Machine, Beck and Vampire Weekend. Bruno Mars’ ‘Breaking Dawn’ Song Will Be ‘Dark’

‘I’m Team Bella all day,’ the ‘It Will Rain’ singer reveals in new Billboard interview. By Jocelyn Vena Bruno Mars Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Bruno Mars is set to make it rain on the “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” soundtrack. Mars’ track, “It Will Rain,” is set to drop on Tuesday, one day after the full track list for the soundtrack hits the streets. “After seeing the movie, I thought that it would be a perfect fit,” Mars told Billboard about the lead single off the soundtrack, which is out on November 8 (just 10 days before the movie hits theaters). “The ‘Twilight’ movies for me [are] a love story. But it’s a dark love story,” he added. “And I think the best way to describe the song is: It’s the darker side of love. I think that pretty much sums it up.” And while the singer didn’t reveal any plot details in the chat, he did weigh in on the biggest conundrum of our time: Is he Team Edward or Team Jacob? “Do I wear a Team Jacob shirt or a Team Edward shirt?” Mars teased. You know what? I’m Team Bella all day.” So how did the song come together? The VMA-nominated singer said it “started off with me and the guitar, and I just had this melody in my head and basically laid it down after I saw the film.” Mars also said he saw “most of the movie” so he “could catch the vibe and feel where they were going with it.” But since he didn’t see a final cut, he has no idea where his song will get placed. “As long as it’s not after the credits,” Mars joked. “I hope it’s in a good [scene]!” Mars and the Smeezingtons had been working on the track before Bruno was asked to contribute to the soundtrack. In fact, earlier this summer, Mars teased MTV News that he had a song he was super excited to share with his Hooligans, though it’s unclear if “It Will Rain” is the same song. “I’m definitely thinking about what’s next,” he said in August. “I’ve got a song that I just wrote that I’m extremely proud of and I worked really hard on, and it’s gonna come out soon.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . How Did Bruno Mars End Up On Song Of Summer ‘Lighters’?

Singer jokes that a ‘freestyle battle’ with Eminem landed him on Bad Meets Evil track. By Jocelyn Vena Bruno Mars Photo: Shirlaine Forrest/ Getty Images Over on the MTV Newsroom blog , it was a heated battle for 2011’s Song of the Summer . Would it be Lady Gaga , Britney Spears , Katy Perry or LMFAO ? Or would Bad Meets Evil (Eminem and Royce Da 5’9”) bring home the title for hip-hop heads everywhere? Well, on Wednesday (September 7), the world spoke, and the summer jam that reigned supreme was Bad Meets Evil’s feel-good anthem “Lighters,” featuring Bruno Mars . Earlier this summer, MTV News caught up with Mars , and he revealed just how he ended up on the track. “It was a freestyle battle,” he joked. “I said, ‘Yo, Em, if I beat you, you’re gonna have to do a song with me!’ I shut him down right then and there.” What’s no joke is the way fans have been connecting with the track, which proudly declares, “This one’s for you and me living out our dreams/ We’re all right where we should be/ With my arms out wide I open my eyes/ And now all I wanna see is a sky full of lighters.” Now that Mars and his crew are the ruling Kings of Summer, he is planning his next big move, which includes a top-secret new track. “I’m definitely thinking about what’s next,” he said. “I’ve got a song that I just wrote that I’m extremely proud of and I worked really hard on, and it’s gonna come out soon.” While he wouldn’t say much else, he teased that the song was for Michael Bolton before admitting, “No, it’s for me.” In addition to working on more tracks for his own bustling career, he shared that he’d love to get into the studio with Cee Lo Green again, and even Lil Wayne. “But this is just the very beginning and there’s a lot more to come.” What are you expecting next from Bruno Mars? Eminem Tops Britney Spears In Nail-Biting Song Of Summer Race

Bad Meets Evil’s ‘Lighters,’ featuring Bruno Mars, ekes past ‘I Wanna Go’ in MTV News poll. By John Mitchell Royce Da 5’9″ and Eminem Photo: MTV News It was a contentious showdown, but after many lead changes, Bad Meets Evil’s “Lighters,” featuring Bruno Mars, bested Britney Spears’ “I Wanna Go” to take MTV News’ Song of Summer crown. Nearly a half-million votes were cast, though a vast majority (327,679) of those were split almost evenly between Royce Da 5’9″ and Eminem’s joint project and Spears. Fan groups rallied behind their respective favorites, leading to a lot of back-and-forth over the past few days, but “Lighters” ultimately came out ahead when polls closed earlier Wednesday (September 7), taking 38.2 percent of the tally with 167,202 votes. The track has turned into a summer sleeper hit for Em, Royce and Mars. It is currently holding strong at #4, its peak position so far, on the Billboard Hot 100, 11 weeks after debuting on the chart. Spears’ “I Wanna Go” — the third Billboard top 10 hit from Femme Fatale — trailed with just over 36.6 percent. If Spears is less than pleased with coming in second, she can take comfort in knowing that her 160,477 votes put her way ahead of her nearest competitor, Lady Gaga, by well over 100,000 votes. Taking 11.91 percent of the poll, Gaga’s “The Edge of Glory” came in third with 52,126 votes. The only other song to pull down a sizable number of votes was Rihanna’s “S&M,” a track released in late spring that topped the charts early this summer, which garnered 34,681 votes for 7.92 percent of the tally. Interestingly, many of the summer’s biggest chart hits found themselves without much love in our Newsroom poll. Among the songs that reached #1 on the Billboard singles chart but found themselves with fractional percentages of the vote here were Katy Perry’s history-making “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” with just 1.26 percent, Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” (0.33 percent), LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem” (0.71 percent) and this week’s Hot 100 #1, Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera’s “Moves Like Jagger” (0.98 percent). Radio hits from Pitbull and Nicki Minaj also missed the boat with 3,090 votes (0.71 percent) and 1,655 votes (0.38 percent), respectively, for “Give Me Everything” and “Super Bass,” while “Dirty Dancer” by Enrique Iglesias featuring Usher and Lil Wayne took 0.28 percent and “Otis” from Throne duo Jay-Z and Kanye West scored just 0.12 percent (or 524 votes). The numbers for mainstream artists like Perry, Minaj and West were fairly similar to those accrued by lower-profile acts Foster the People, Cobra Starship and David Guetta. Foster’s “Pumped Up Kicks” earned the band 0.14 percent of our poll, with slightly bigger numbers falling to Cobra’s “You Make Me Feel” (0.25) and Guetta’s “Where Them Girls At” (0.16). Taylor Swift on Taylor Lautner: Just Good Friends!

We’re not sure where this rumor got started, but Taylor Swift put a rest to it during an appearance on Ryan Seacrest’s radio program Tuesday: she is NOT dating Taylor Lautner . “We’re incredibly close friends, but that’s not something that’s newsworthy, so people write other stuff. We’re just really good friends!” Taylor Swift Upskirt Incident Another topic that was addressed? Swift penning a memoir in the near future. Sorry, folks. That chatter is also nothing but talk. (“Not at all!” she said. “I haven’t even heard that rumor!”) Okay, but what about something that could actually take place? Such as a duet with Bruno Mars? A fan asked about that and Taylor sounded open to the possibility. “He is amazing,” she said. “We’ve talked about writing together and we think it would be an amazing collaboration.” Most recently, of course, Mars teamed up with Eminem on “Lighters.” Check out that official music video NOW .

Tyler, The Creator Thinks His VMA Rivals ‘Suck’

‘If I lose to any of those wackass videos, I’m gonna be mad because they all suck — except for Adele’s,’ Tyler tells MTV News. By Rob Markman Tyler The Creator Photo: MTV News Tyler, the Creator bites his tongue for no one. Some call him evil, others, unbelievable. So when asked about his feelings on his 2011 MTV VMA Video of the Year nomination, Tyler simply spoke his mind. “I’m really excited, shout out to Ron Artest. If I lose to any of those wackass videos, I’m gonna be mad because they all suck — except for Adele ‘s,” he told MTV News. The Odd Future standout’s self-directed “Yonkers” video is up against Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep,” Beastie Boys’ “Make Some Noise,” Bruno Mars’ “Grenade” and Katy Perry ‘s “Firework.” The “Yonkers” clip, which was uploaded to the Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All’s YouTube page back in February, has since racked up 15 million views. Most noted for the scene in which the rapper hangs himself in the end, the “Yonkers” video has become one of the most talked about and debated works of the year. It earned Tyler a Best New Artist nom as well. While the Cali rapper/producer/director is more respectful of his fellow Best New Artist nominees, he still wants to win that one too. Up against indie poppers Foster the People (“Pumped Up Kicks”), Big Sean (“My Last”), Kreayshawn (“Gucci Gucci”) and Wiz Khalifa (“Black and Yellow”), Tyler will let his guard down just a bit in this category. “The Best New Artist thing, that’s cool. Wiz is a really good dude and I’ve been a fan of his music, so if he wins I’ll be pretty excited. I wanna win that for sure, but Wiz is awesome, I’ve been listening to him since ’08,” he said. “Even Kreayshawn, she’s cool. So if she wins that too, I’ll be pretty stoked. But you know, I wanna win, I’m just gonna keep it 100.” Snagging a VMA has been a goal of the “Sandwitches” MC for months. He has been tweeting feverishly about it, but even he was surprised when he actually heard the nominations announcement. After the group manager called the entire OFWGKTA to a meeting, Tyler grew weary. “We were like, ‘What the f— does he have us here for?’ We were ready to leave. Then the VMA nomination thing came on and I was on my phone and I was like, ‘Oh crap I want to see what wack videos they have this time,’ ” Tyler recalled of his skepticism before being hit with the news. “Then they said my name and was talkin’ about it and I was like ‘What the hell?’ I kinda stopped breathing, I was just sitting there. I was kinda shaking. I don’t know, it was surreal.” The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live on Sunday, August 28, from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
