The Weeknd Says He’s Officially Done With H&M After Their Monkey Mess-Up

The Weeknd Walks Away From Deal With H&M Looks like H&M lost one of their most valuable endorsers with their little racist slip up earlier today . Among all the outraged Twitter users who caught wind of the retailer placing a beautiful little black boy in a hoodie referring to him as “The Coolest Monkey In The Jungle” was one of the top artists on Pop and Urban Radio today, The Weeknd. If you’ll recall, The Weeknd launched his own XO clothing line with the retailer last year. But it looks like that won’t be continuing much longer. The Weeknd took to his Twitter to let it be known that he’s disgusted by his people being compared to monkeys in their advertising, and is pulling the plug on his relationship with the clothier. woke up this morning shocked and embarrassed by this photo. i’m deeply offended and will not be working with @hm anymore… pic.twitter.com/P3023iYzAb — The Weeknd (@theweeknd) January 8, 2018 We can’t say we blame him AT ALL. Big Ballers Beware! LaVar’s Shoe Brand Got An “F” Rating From The Better Business Bureau For “Substandard Business Practice”

Big Baller Brand Given F-Rating By Better Business Bureau LaVar Ball’s Big Baller Brand is facing some serious problems with an even bigger BBB — the Better Business Bureau. For the unfamiliar, The Better Business Bureau is a nonprofit organization that has been around for over 100 years that monitors business practices in the interest of consumer protection. According to them… Big Baller Brand is a borderline scam-level operation . Mind you, the company’s ZO2 shoes go for $495, with sandals starting at $220, and the Melo Ball 1’s are $395. Hoodies start at around $100. But that price tag isn’t exactly coming with a high-quality product or particularly good customer service, let customer reviews tell it. According to NYDN, the company has received 32 complaints and 44 negative reviews — no positive reviews AT ALL — on the Better Business Bureau. Those figures exceed the limit to give LaVar’s brand the lowest rating possible by the business evaluator. The most common complaints are from customers who never received their products , weren’t refunded, or received the wrong items altogether. And apparently, when the company fails to deliver on product and customers inquire about their shipment status, the company calls them broke and does not refund the money. One customer wrote on the site last November: “This company does not offer refunds. I purchased 2 items and was told there would be a 1-2 week delay. I have been waiting 6 weeks now, and when I asked why it was taking so long, I was called a ‘small baller’. At this point I believe they have decided to steal my money.” The Better Business Bureau reports that they’ve reached out to BBB multiple times to help with their consumer issues…but unsurprisingly the offer has been pretty much ignored. Sheesh. We guess the issues should have been obvious when not even Jay-Z managed to receive his Big Baller purchase from LaVar & crew. SMH. Getty/WENN

New MTV Show “Unlocking The Truth” Tackles Wrongful Convictions

Show Host Served Nearly 10 Years For A Murder He Didn’t Commit A new reality show on MTV is tackling the shocking epidemic of wrongful convictions – and its disproportionate impact on the black community. “Unlocking The Truth” follows Ryan Ferguson, who spent a decade in prison for a murder he did not do, and investigator Eva Nagao as they uncover new evidence in crimes where the defendants were convicted under questionable circumstances. “This is something that is very real,” Ferguson told BOSSIP. “It could happen to anyone at any time.” There are about 2.3 million people in prison, and a little less than half are black men, according to the Bureau of Prisons. Of the number of incarcerated, the show estimates there are as many as 60,000 innocent people who are currently locked up. Ferguson himself was convicted of murder and spent his 20s behind bars, until witnesses in his case recanted. He filed an appeal, and a judge ordered him released. He now has a lawsuit pending against the prosecutors and law enforcement who pushed for his conviction. “Somebody right now is going through what I went through,” he said. “This happens to poor people, and there are racial issues as well.” Ferguson’s co-star, Nagao agreed, and said the public is interested in police accountability, especially after several recent incidents of police shooting unarmed black men. “I think it speaks to broader issues that people are interested in,” she said, “and highlights the systemic failures that there are.” The first episode sees Ferguson return to the same Kansas City, Mo. prison he’d been locked up in to visit Michael Politte, a man who said he was wrongly convicted of bludgeoning his mother and setting her on fire when he was just 14 years old. Ferguson said he planned to continue his work around wrongful convictions as long as he could because in helping others, he was helping himself. The show’s goal is to use individual cases to expose the system-wide failures within the criminal justice system – and its unequal burden on the black community, said Andrew Jenks, the show’s executive producer. “The judicial system is f**ked, needs major overhaul,” Jenks said, “and if we can play a small part in making a difference, that’s awesome.” “Unlocking The Truth” premieres Aug. 17 at 11 p.m. on MTV.

At a congressional hearing on Thursday, FBI Director Robert Mueller said the Bureau was through with training sessions that equated “mainstream” Muslims with terrorists — and besides, briefings like those were mere “isolated incidents.” But Mueller’s description of the extent of the training doesn’t square with a large body of evidence that Danger Room Broadcasting platform : YouTube Source : Wired: Danger Room Discovery Date : 06/10/2011 18:49 Number of articles : 2

T.I. Legal Challenge Negged By Prison Officials

Looks like T.I. is stuck in prison, at least for now. Prison officials in Atlanta put the kibosh on the legal challenge to the decision to yank the rap star back to prison immediately following his Aug. 31 release. The Federal Bureau of Prisons told T.I.’s lawyer he was “not entitled to legal counsel” in the process by which officials review the decision to lock him up. Authorities remanded him into federal custody for failing to disclose that his trip to a halfway house would be on a pimp ass tour bus with cameras in tow. T.I., wife Tameka Cottle and even the halfway house officials insist he did nothing wrong, but the prison officials have refused to budge on this matter. T.I.’s attorney originally sent the Bureau a letter last week, asking to be present at the hearings that would decide his client’s fate. He was turned down. Two hearings have already occurred without T.I.’s lawyer present, one last week and one the week before. It’s unclear what transpired at either meeting. For now, however, he remains locked up , though his sentence is set to expire in October, so before long, he should be free to roll out – tour bus and all.

Mass Arrests in DC: We Shall No Longer Be Crucified Upon the Cross of Coal

***************************************** VIDEOS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE!!! ***************************************** Over one hundred protesters from the Appalachian coalfields were arrested in front of the White House today, defiantly calling on the Obama administration to abolish mountaintop removal mining. As part of the Appalachia Rising events, the coalfield residents took part in a multi-day series of events to bring the escalating human rights, environmental and health care crisis to the nation’s capitol. Kentuckians for the Commonwealth leaders Teri Blanton and Mickey McCoy, the first arrested in today’s nonviolent act of civil disobedience, were joined by allies from around the country, including NASA climatologist James Hansen. Meanwhile, protesters led by the legendary Rev. Billy Talen staged a nearby sit-in at the office of the PNC bank, which remains one of the last major financiers of coal companies engaged in this extreme form of strip-mining in Appalachia. In a stark reminder of the national connection to the coalfields, the Obama administration officials looked on from their White House offices, as their electricity came from a coal-fired plant generated partly with coal stripmined from Appalachia. As a litmus test of the administration’s commitment to science and the rule of law, Appalachian residents are calling on the EPA to halt any new permit on the upcoming decision over the massive Spruce mountaintop removal mine. Mountaintop removal coal only provides, in fact, less than 10 percent of all coal production. Fed up with the regulatory crisis and circumventions by outside coal companies, coalfield residents have been rising up against reckless strip-mining practices against the country, from Alaska to Alabama to Arizona. In southern Illinois, scores of black crosses were found at coal mines, strip mines, coal-fired plants, coal ash piles, and at the Southern Illinois University Coal Research Center. Citing Illinois as the birthplace of the coal industry, and “ground zero in the Obama administration’s plan to dangerously experiment with carbon capture and storage technologies for coal-fired plants,” a new Black Cross Alliance campaign announced plans to construct symbolic black crosses at coal mining and coal-burning landmarks in the state and across the nation to serve as a public warning: It is no longer acceptable for the Obama administration–and state and regional government officials—to be complicit in maintaining deadly coal mining and coal-burning communities as shameful national sacrifice areas in 2010. Invoking William Jennings Bryan’s “Cross of Gold” speech, the Black Cross Alliance called on the Obama administration and the state of Illinois to halt billions of dollars in taxpayer subsidies for multinational coal corporations, and bring an end to the scandalous coal wars in Illinois by re-investing in a sustainable clean energy policy for the future for the coalfield regions. The Black Cross Alliance declared: You shall not crucify us any longer upon a cross of coal. “While the rest of the nation–and world–launches into the exploding new global market of clean energy development and green jobs,” the Black Cross Alliance asked, “why have the coalfield regions in the country been left out of the renewnable energy movement and slated for a new generation of increased coal production?” For more updates on Appalachia Rising, see: www.appalachiarising.org ***************************************** VIDEOS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE!!! ***************************************** added by: toyotabedzrock
