You Can’t Be Serious…Kemba Walker Admits To Just Recently Reading His First Full Book Ever!!

We appreciate your honesty sir, but you certainly are an ignorant mickiefickie… New York – UConn’s star guard concedes that he’s only read one book cover-to-cover in his entire life… and yet somehow managed to complete college in three years. Earlier this month, Kemba Walker led the University of Connecticut Huskies to victory in the NCAA men’s basketball championship. The hardworking star guard is now slated to go pro, and is expected to earn a degree after just three years at UConn. Given the number of college stars who turn pro without graduating, Walker’s academic commitment had been widely celebrated… until now. In a Sports Illustrated interview, the 20-year-old made a “ridiculous” admission: He’s just finished his first book, William C. Rhoden’s Forty Million Dollar Slaves: The Rise, Fall, and Redemption of the Black Athlete. “That’s true,” Walker told SI. “You can write that. It is the first book I’ve ever read.” What does Walker’s rather short reading list say about the state of college athletics? This is unbelievable: “How does anyone graduate from a Division I university — in three years, no less! — without ever finishing a single book in his life?” asks Dashiell Bennett at Business Insider. Simply remarkable. But, hey, at least the one book he has read probably has a chapter on education, or lack thereof, in college athletics. It shows just how entitled college athletes are: “I’m sick of pundits saying these kids should be paid on top of being given, oh, just a couple hundred thousand dollars in scholarship money,” says Matt Kiebus at Death + Taxes. Not only do college athletes get “an invaluable college education for free,” they also, it seems, have to put in a fraction of the academic effort as their peers. Who else but a celebrated athlete could skate through college without reading a book? Teachers and coaches are also complicit: “Walker’s teachers and coaches — both in high school and college — had to have been well aware of any academic shortcomings, but all were ignored in order for these schools to have a winning team,” says Hayat Mohamed at The Root. This is “seriously wrong,” and Walker alone is not to blame. “He was clearly robbed of a true education,” and now, “yet another undereducated black man joins the league — way to go, NBA.” Let it be known that there is nothing cool about this at all. Everyone doesn’t have the same thirst for reading and we understand that, but to be 20 years old and only read one book in your life is just plain sad. Get it together please. Source

Luther “Uncle Luke” Campbell made headlines recently when he officially decided to run for mayor of Miami-Dade County, FL. Campbell is hoping to use his business savvy to help the city. Campbell stopped by WLRN-FM, a local station owned by the Miami Herald, to talk about his run for office.  He repeatedly talked up his business savvy and how he brought new industry to Miami.  “My business enhanced economics in this town,” Campbell told radio host Phil Latzman. “There was no music business here in South Florida in 1986 when I started off.  We created a business. We employed people. We educated people.” We couldn’t help but chuckle at the 2:34 mark in the video when Campbell states that the mayor of Miami needs to have vision.  It reminded us of that classic scene in Willie Dynamite … Spotted @ The Miami Herald RELATED: Uncle Luke Officially Joins Miami Mayoral Race RELATED: Uncle Luke Lands Assistant Coach Job At Miami High School

Daniel Radcliffe Talks Transition From Screen To Stage

The ‘Harry Potter’ star faced ‘a lot of challenges’ preparing for the Broadway musical ‘How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.’ By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Daniel Radcliffe Photo: MTV News Daniel Radcliffe has had an impressive debut on Broadway with his lead role in the musical “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,” but the transition from film to stage did not come easy for the “Harry Potter” star. When Radcliffe sat down for an interview with MTV News on Thursday, he said that even after the play’s glowing reviews and the praise heaped on his performance, he still didn’t feel completely at ease with his abilities in the role. “No, not at all. Not in the slightest. I kind of still don’t,” Radcliffe said in response to whether he felt comfortable as a Broadway star. “But I am doing it and it was just a matter of, a lot of other people had faith in me.” There were two people in particular — the production’s choreographer and its director, Rob Ashford — whose faith in Radcliffe inspired the actor to suffer through the difficult training process. Radcliffe, who has never had to sing or dance for a role in his life, noted that “there were a lot of challenges” he faced during his transition period onto the stage, but he did admit that everything he achieved for the musical he did with hard work. “With the dance, particularly, there were some days when I was just so tired halfway through,” Radcliffe explained. “There was one time when I was in my dance class and we were like two-and-a-quarter hours in and I just have 45 minutes left, and I was like, ‘How am I going to get through the last 45 minutes of this lesson?’ And I actually went to the toilet, sat down on the toilet with the lid down, [set] my phone alarm for five minutes and just went to sleep for like five minutes and I just woke up thinking, ‘Jesus, I’m not sure I’m going to be able to hack it if I can’t even get through a lesson.’ ” But Radcliffe has been able to “hack it,” and has surpassed many expectations to deliver a solid Broadway performance. It’s why he started training for the role a year in advance, and why he made sure he had ample time off from the “Harry Potter” set to be ready for the part. “You do have to get your levels of ability up to standard, but also your levels of fitness and stamina,” said Radcliffe of his training process. “It’s been kind of beneficial to me in every area of my personal health and life, as well as just kind of being able to keep in step with Broadway.” Are you interested in seeing Daniel Radcliffe perform on Broadway? One Life to Live and All My Children: Axed by ABC

The future of soap operas is officially bleaker than that of Lindsay Lohan’s movie career, following the decision by ABC yesterday to cancel One Life to Live and All My Children . The daytime dramas were on the air for 43 years and 40 years, respectively, and will be replaced by a pair of horrifically-named talk shows: The Chew , featuring Mario Batali; and The Revolution , starring Tim Gunn. ABC’s Daytime President, Brian Frons, justified the move by saying “we are taking this bold step to expand our business because viewers are looking for different types of programming these days.” The most famous star on either show, Susan Lucci, responded to the news thusly: “It’s been a fantastic journey. I loved playing Erica Kane and working with [show creator] Agnes Nixon and all the incredible people involved with All My Children . I’m looking forward to all kinds of new and exciting opportunities.” One Life to Live will go off the air in January, three months after All My Children ‘s final episode in September.

Tiger Woods Humbled At The Masters

Tiger Woods did not shine like he has in the past at the greatest golf event of the year, the Masters Tournament. Tiger has been humbled once again. Even though we may not have been huge golf fans, we have rallied around the triumphs and trials of this ethnically mixed black man. Related article: Does Tiger’s Public Contrition Forgive His Sins? For those of you that are golf fans, could the way he is technically approaching the game have something to do with his slump.  In a recent article from The Atlantic , they explore how the could be a real reason for the slump. Masters 2011: The Real Reason Tiger Woods Is Slumping As Tiger Woods competes in this year’s Masters Tournament in Augusta, GA—the highest-profile golf event of the season—and makes a run at breaking Jack Nicklaus’s 18 major tournament wins, his professional downfall is ever-glaring. The world’s highest-paid athlete and formerly first-ranked golfer is currently seeded seventh by the PGA and finished tied in 19th place after the first round at the Masters. He surged up to third place in the second round, but ESPN wondered “whether the two youngsters ahead of him really cared.” Much ado is being made about the fact that Woods has not won a major since 2008—particularly as he continues to brush up against Nicklaus’s record—and everything from his torn ACL three years ago to (and especially) distractions following the media circus surrounding his extra-marital affairs and divorce are blamed for the drought. But hookers and TMZ aside, Time has a simpler theory for why Woods’s game has been stuck in the sandtrap. He’s holding that club too darned tight. Quote Of The Day: Bill Cosby To Donald Trump “Run or Shut up!”

Uh oh, “The Donald” done ran Bill hot! Legendary actor-comedian Bill Cosby said that Donald Trump is “full of it” when it comes to his potential bid for the White House, telling TODAY’s Meredith Vieira Thursday that Trump should “run or shut up.” Cosby was passionately talking about his work helping to further education in downtrodden urban neighborhoods, but he worked himself into a lather when Vieira asked him about Trump, who appeared in an earlier show segment. Vieira mentioned her lengthy, pretaped interview with the business mogul in which he talked about the possibility of his running for president in 2012. Funnyman Cosby grimaced and said, “Oh, please, with Donald Trump, take him home with you!” “Why do you say that?” Vieira asked. Cosby responded, “Because he’s full of it,” then sat silent with a chagrined look on his face for several seconds. While Vieira pressed him on what prompted his attitude toward Trump, Cosby said that he is tired of Trump’s “will he or won’t he?” waffling about throwing his hat in the ring for the nation’s highest office. “You run or shut up,” Cosby said. When Meredith implied that Trump would have to be “taken seriously” if he does decide to run, Cosby made it clear who’s side he was on. While saying “I don’t care” as to whether Trump officially runs for president, Cosby bristled when Vieira said, “If he runs, you’ve got to take it seriously.” “No, I don’t,”” Cosby replied. “Not him, not him. Look, people have run for president for any reason. Come on, open your mouth — run!” The former 1980s sitcom star, who still continues to pack theaters with his stand-up comedy act, did use some of his trademark humor to show he is definitely with Team Obama when it comes to the current administration. “I like him very, very much,”” he told Vieira. “I love his wife, I love his children, I love his mother-in-law. I think they have a dog — I love his dog.” Bill can be as peaceful a man as he wants to be, but something about the tone of his voice suggests that he would love for Trump to catch his fade! Source
