‘The line was wrapped around the block, like it always is. It’s a blessing,’ Tech says of event held in his Missouri hometown. That was the battle cry on Tuesday in KCMO, when hometown hero Tech N9ne released his sixth solo album, All 6’s and 7’s. The album, which features guest verses from popular artists like Lil Wayne, T-Pain, Snoop Dogg and Busta Rhymes, lured Kansas City fans, who lined up outside an Independence, Missouri, FYE record store for a scheduled meet-and-greet with Tecca Nina. “It’s just inspiring to me to see that we have that many hip-hop fans in Kansas City,” KC’s Hot 103 Jamz radio personality Brooklyn Martino said after the signing, which brought out more than a thousand fans. “Today, there was a constant line the whole day, and it was amazing because you see how many fans come out and appreciate the type of music that he gives Kansas City. He’s constantly giving us good music and the country has now recognized it, and it is really awesome and inspiring to the city.” Tech, who started signing autographs at the store at 3 p.m. CT, continued to meet with fans up until 9:30 p.m., only taking a seven-minute dinner break at around 8 p.m. “The line was wrapped around the block, like it always is. It’s a blessing,” Tech told MTV News. “I stand up the whole time to greet my fans. I don’t like sitting down in between a table, so it makes it harder to stand up and greet everybody how they come, but that’s how I like doing it. The day as a whole, it was successful. The album is selling really good everywhere. I’m tired as hell, but I’m proud at the same time.” “I mean the world to them because they know I’m inside out, I give them everything,” Tech, who is in the midst of an 82-city tour , said. “They know that I push real hard to give them what they want, musically, performance-wise, everything — I open all the way up. That’s why people call me a cult leader, because my fanbase is so hard-core and so devoted to the Tech N9ne, Strange Music movement.” Strange Music is the independent label that Tech has been releasing music on since establishing the business in 1999 with his business partner Travis O’Guin. In 2009, it was revealed that the label earned approximately $15 million, thanks to the support of Tech’s fans, who call themselves “Technicians” and have drawn comparisons to the famed Juggalo fans that support Insane Clown Posse. “I definitely deem today a success,” O’Guin said of the All 6’s and 7’s drop. Since being released, the star-studded LP has remained in the iTunes top three albums alongside Adele’s 21 and Dirty Work’s All Time Low. “I can give a sh– about a chart position,” O’Guin said. “A fan telling me that they love the album means more than them little glass trophies. By Jocelyn Vena Taylor Swift Photo: Getty Images Taylor Swift is set to premiere her new music video for “The Story of Us” on Tuesday when she sits down with MTV News’ Sway for “MTV First: Taylor Swift.” Until then, we are looking back at some of our favorite moments with the country pop star. Back in 2008, we got Swift to work for us at the VMA pre-show as our fashion correspondent , where she interviewed some of the biggest names in the business about their sense of style on the red carpet. She also happened to be nominated that night, but it wasn’t until the following year that she finally took home a Moonman. Later that year, she sat down with MTV News to talk about her album Fearless and revealed she had always wanted to guest-star on “CSI.” Months later, the world would learn that she did, in fact, nab a part. Coincidence? We think not! MTV News was there both times Swift appeared on “Saturday Night Live,” first in 2009 when she appeared as the musical guest. Then in 2010, Tim Kash caught up with Swift as she prepared to not only take the stage again as a performer, but also to host the show for the first time. ‘It’s fun to talk about it and make jokes about, but in all reality, that didn’t even exist,’ Wiz tells us about alleged altercation. By Steven Roberts Wiz Khalifa Photo: MTV News EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey — Wiz Khalifa is riding high — pun not intended, even though it kind of works — off the success of his debut album, “Rolling Papers,” and a stage show that is quickly garnering a lot of praise. But Wiz can’t seem to escape the gossip that doggedly follows him and girlfriend Amber Rose around. Rumor has it that Wiz confronted Kanye West over a jab West took at Rose during his show-stealing set at Coachella . During his performance of “Stronger,” West slightly altered the lyrics from “I’ll do anything for a blonde dike and she’ll do anything for the limelight/ We’ll do anything when the time’s right” to “I did anything for a blonde dike and she did anything for the limelight/ And we did anything when the time’s right.” An altercation allegedly occurred after West’s performance, but when MTV News caught up with Wiz before his set at this weekend’s Bamboozle Festival, he said the entire backstage incident was fabricated. “I did my set and we hung around for a bit, but we weren’t even there when fam was onstage,” Wiz said. “Somebody made that up. I think they just wanted it to be that type of situation or they wanted to see something go down. It’s fun to talk about it and make jokes about, but in all reality, that didn’t even exist.” Wiz said he did hear Kanye’s lyrics though. He thought it was a low moment, that many people who look up to West may have been turned off by his lyrical alteration. He harbors no ill will, however. “It is what it is, and I’m doing my business and she’s doing her business and he’s doing his business and that’s what it is. I’m all about positivity and I’m going to keep it that way.” Wiz kept things moving, co-headlining Bamboozle Friday night along with 30 Seconds to Mars. Wiz is currently on the College Consciousness Tour with fellow Steel City native Mac Miller, and he plans to head out with the Motor City’s own Big Sean next month for the Rolling Papers tour . But he’s happy to perform wherever his fans — or soon-to-be-fans — may be. “I think my crowd, they kind of just go everywhere and wherever I’m at. I kind of just entertain them as well as make new fans. Donald Trump, is pulling all stops on this ‘birther’ theory business. So much so, he’s launched an investigation in Hawaii to prove that President Obama is not a U.S. citizen by birth. In a heated exchange with CNN’s ‘American Morning’ Hosts Ali Velshi and Kyran Chetry, Trump assured “all Americans” that he will be “revealing some interesting things” about the POTUS. Possibly-serious Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is giving few details about the investigation he claims to have launched in Hawaii to get to the bottom of where President Obama was born, but the business mogul told CNN Thursday Americans will be “very surprised” by what he has found. “We’re looking into it very, very strongly. At a certain point in time I’ll be revealing some interesting things,” Trump said on CNN’s American Morning. Trump first claimed earlier this month he had sent investigators to Obama’s home state in an effort to find out if the president was indeed born there, as he says he was and several media organization’s independent investigations have confirmed. “I have people that have been studying it and they cannot believe what they’re finding,” Trump told NBC then. But Trump has since offered few details about the on-the-ground investigation and, in the interview with CNN Thursday, wouldn’t specifically say if it had uncovered new details. “You’ll be very surprised,” he said when asked by CNN’s Ali Velshi if his investigators have found anything. During the interview with CNN, Trump also maintained he is worth considerably more than the $2.7 billion Forbes Magazine has estimated, and says he will reveal the real number if he decides to run for president. I can tell you that’s a very low number,” Trump said of the Forbes estimate. “It’s much more than that. And if I decide to run, which I very well may surprise people, but if I decide to run, I will give a net worth statement essentially. As you know, we have to fill out very detailed forms for the federal government. We appreciate your honesty sir, but you certainly are an ignorant mickiefickie… New York – UConn’s star guard concedes that he’s only read one book cover-to-cover in his entire life… and yet somehow managed to complete college in three years. Earlier this month, Kemba Walker led the University of Connecticut Huskies to victory in the NCAA men’s basketball championship. The hardworking star guard is now slated to go pro, and is expected to earn a degree after just three years at UConn. Given the number of college stars who turn pro without graduating, Walker’s academic commitment had been widely celebrated… until now. In a Sports Illustrated interview, the 20-year-old made a “ridiculous” admission: He’s just finished his first book, William C. Rhoden’s Forty Million Dollar Slaves: The Rise, Fall, and Redemption of the Black Athlete. “That’s true,” Walker told SI. “You can write that. It is the first book I’ve ever read.” What does Walker’s rather short reading list say about the state of college athletics? This is unbelievable: “How does anyone graduate from a Division I university — in three years, no less! — without ever finishing a single book in his life?” asks Dashiell Bennett at Business Insider. Simply remarkable. But, hey, at least the one book he has read probably has a chapter on education, or lack thereof, in college athletics. It shows just how entitled college athletes are: “I’m sick of pundits saying these kids should be paid on top of being given, oh, just a couple hundred thousand dollars in scholarship money,” says Matt Kiebus at Death + Taxes. Not only do college athletes get “an invaluable college education for free,” they also, it seems, have to put in a fraction of the academic effort as their peers. Who else but a celebrated athlete could skate through college without reading a book? Teachers and coaches are also complicit: “Walker’s teachers and coaches — both in high school and college — had to have been well aware of any academic shortcomings, but all were ignored in order for these schools to have a winning team,” says Hayat Mohamed at The Root. This is “seriously wrong,” and Walker alone is not to blame. “He was clearly robbed of a true education,” and now, “yet another undereducated black man joins the league — way to go, NBA.” Let it be known that there is nothing cool about this at all. Everyone doesn’t have the same thirst for reading and we understand that, but to be 20 years old and only read one book in your life is just plain sad. Get it together please. Source
