Delusional Dina Lohan Defends Drunk Daughter

Queen of Denial and Worst Mom Ever candidate Dina Lohan is going on the record about her troubled daughter Lindsay’s reported financial troubles. Shocker – she says it’s all overblown and everything’s fine. Dina denies Lindsay owes $600,000 in credit card debt, though she does concede there were shakeups among those keeping tabs on her accounts. “She is not going into credit card debt. Absolutely not. And her business managers… I actually am in contact with them every day,” Dina proclaims . Everyone feel better about the situation yet? We sure do. This is an old school photo of insane Dina and troubled Lindsay Lohan kickin’ it with her bad ass former boy toy Calum Best. Why? Why not is the real question . “Yes, Lindsay will spend money but she has people that run what she does,” Dina says, meaning her new manager. “We kind of cleaned house. Lindsay doesn’t really pay her bills. Someone else does, so they wouldn’t let her do that.” “And in the interim, you know, a bill may be a little late or not, you know, but that’s pretty normal. That happens to me, that happens to everyone,” she adds. Yeah, being $23,000 behind on rent totally happens to everyone. When it comes to reports of Lindsay’s all-night partying , Dina also says the stories are fabricated and overblown: “People don’t understand how the press manipulates,” she said. “What you read in the press is completely fabricated.” No it’s not . Photos showing the train wreck drunkenly falling into a cactus aren’t “manipulations.” Dina also insists her career is great. Man, she needs a shrink. “She has her 6126 clothing line which is doing amazing,” she says. “We’re in Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdales… she designs everything from soup to nuts.” We think what she means is she is nuts.

Solar Responds To Skepticim About Guru’s ‘Farewell’ Letter

‘We knew there was going to have to be a statement,’ Gang Starr MC’s associate says. By Shaheem Reid Guru and Solar Photo: 4sightmedia On a tremendously tough day for Gang Starr fans, the death of the duo’s MC, Guru (real name: Keith Elam) from cancer was announced by his associate Solar early Tuesday (April 20), and included a long “farewell” letter that Solar said was written by Guru in the weeks before his death. The tone of the letter was harsh toward DJ Premier, Guru’s former partner in Gang Starr. “I do not wish my ex-DJ to have anything to do with my name, likeness, events, tributes etc. connected in anyway to my situation including any use of my name or circumstance for any reason and I have instructed my lawyers to enforce this,” the letter reads in part. “I had nothing to do with him in life for over seven years and want nothing to do with him in death. Solar has my life story and is well informed on my family situation, as well as the real reason for separating from my ex-DJ. … “The work I have done with Solar represents a legacy far beyond its time. And we as a team were not afraid to push the envelope. To me this is what true artists do! As men of honor we stood tall in the face of small-mindedness, greed, and ignorance. As we fought for music and integrity at the cost of not earning millions and for this I will always be happy and proud, and would like to thank the million fans who have seen us perform over the years from all over the world. The work I have done with Solar represents a legacy far beyond its time and is my most creative and experimental to date. I hope that our music will receive the attention it deserves as it is some of the best work I have done and represents some of the best years of my life.” In the wake of the letter, fans, journalist and even some of Guru’s peers took to the Internet to question its authenticity. People close to Guru said it just didn’t sound like him, and many questioned how he could write a letter in such a weakened medical condition. Rapper Bumpy Knuckles (also known as Freddie Foxx), who worked extensively with Gang Starr, fumed on his Twitter page : “It’s an insult that websites would post a letter from a man who has been in a coma since Feb. R U serious? Do ur homework, journalist! Please,” he wrote in part. “Guru& DJ Premier made real hip-hop 2gether. No1 will ever be able to cloud that with fake letters and phony statements. Sites shld know better.” The Roots’ ?uestlove took to Twitter as well, referencing French MC Solaar, who worked with Guru on the Jazzmatazz project. “Only Solaar I wanna hear w/Guru is the remix Primo did from France’s MC Solaar back in 92 when he KILT (flipped) Miles’ ‘So What.’ … Not trying to bring negativity into the situation. But I do NOT believe he wrote that letter. 1) he was in a coma. 2) HE WAS IN A COMA!” “Just confused,” radio personality Miss Info wrote on Tuesday. “If Solar wrote this letter in Guru’s name to push agenda, it does Guru’s legacy a disservice (and their friendship too). All that Solar did in life for Guru, he undid in his passing if the words ‘I, Guru, am writing this letter’ are untrue…” Reader Rob sounded off on MTVNews.com on Tuesday: “The Guru ‘farewell’ letter reeks of fakeness.” On Tuesday afternoon, Solar spoke with MTV News about the controversy, saying that he and Guru had prepared the statement quite some time ago. “In some ways, I’ve been prepared for this,” Solar said about Guru’s death. “We got the news that it was terminal at the beginning of the year, that the cancer wasn’t turning around. So we knew. “He died yesterday. We both had hoped he would beat it,” Solar added. “It was a very inspirational, inspiring fight we fought.” He vehemently denied that the letter was not written by Guru. “I mean, it’s ridiculous,” he said. “Guru knew this time would come. The great artist he is, us being intelligent people, we knew there was going to have to be a statement relating to this. Unfortunately, there are those who have the wicked agenda, and just can’t accept that Guru and I have handled this thing as men and not children, and this is how men of honor handle their business. He arranged his press release. I’m the repository of Guru’s life story. I recorded his life story for book and for movies. We’re not foolish. He was diagnosed with cancer well over a year ago. It’s been operations and so forth. It would be ridiculous for him to not be prepared.” At press time, representatives for DJ Premier and Guru’s family had not responded to MTV News’ requests for comment. Hanson Pay Homage To Blues Brothers In ‘Thinking ‘Bout Something’ Video

‘We all watched that movie over and over again as kids,’ Taylor Hanson says of the group’s inspiration for the clip. By James Montgomery Taylor Hanson in “Thinking ‘Bout Something” Photo: Cooking Vinyl Like most guys of a certain era, Taylor Hanson and his brothers grew up watching — and compulsively re-watching — “The Blues Brothers,” the 1980 cult classic featuring John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd as the titular brothers on a mission (from God) to save an orphanage. But unlike most guys of a certain era, they didn’t just watch it for the copious car chase sequences. “We all watched that movie over and over again as kids. I think I’ve probably seen it 1,000 times by now,” Hanson told MTV News on Friday (April 16). “And, what’s great about it is, sure, you can sit around with a bunch of guys and watch it again and again because you want to see the car chases. But that’s only part of it. We all loved it because it captures a certain renegade spirit and the kind of blind optimism that goes with making music. Being in band is reckless and kind of messy, and the film definitely captures that reckless nature.” So, in the back of their minds, Hanson had always thought about paying homage to the film — they just didn’t know when they’d get the chance to do it, until one fateful day earlier this year when the band were kicking around ideas for a video for “Thinking ‘Bout Somethin’,” the first single off their upcoming Shout It Out album. They wanted something that matched the joyous, retro-leaning feel of the tune and, all of a sudden, something clicked. “We wanted to announce that this record is sort of an unapologetic, bright, melodic thing, and so we — since we love this movie so much — we all watched one particular scene, with Ray Charles and the Blues Brothers band [ performing “Shake A Tail Feather” ] and we realized that if you played our song with the scene, it almost looks like they were playing ours,” Hanson said. “I mean, it was crazy. The tempo is perfect. It hit every music-geek button for us, and we absolutely couldn’t have predicted it. So we figured, now’s as good a time as any to make a video.” So, Hanson did just that. Working with Tulsa-based choreographer Heather Hall and director (and friend) Todd Edwards, they re-created the music-shop set from the “Blues Brothers” film (building it in the offices of their 3GC Records), recruited both fans and professional dancers and got to work. They shot the “Somethin'” video in two days, taking great pains to match the film, frame by frame, right down to the costumes and thoroughly outrageous facial hair of the Blues Brothers Band. “We put Isaac in a beard and long hair, and he looks almost exactly like [Blues Brothers’ guitarist] Steve Cropper. He was saying, ‘Is this too much? I look like Moses,’ but it was perfect,” Hanson laughed. “Honestly, it wasn’t all that tough to do. It was like when Peter Jackson directed ‘Lord of the Rings’ — he was already obsessed with it. And that’s how we were with ‘The Blues Brothers.’ ” The “Thinking ‘Bout Something'” video premiered Thursday on MySpace , and almost instantly struck a chord with audiences everywhere, including Perez Hilton, who praised the clip and singled out the cameo by “Weird” Al Yankovic, a longtime Hanson friend and collaborator who just had to make an appearance. “We’ve known him since ’98 and, small world, but he shot [the 1989 film] ‘UHF’ in Tulsa. Plus he’s sort of the king of recreating these pop-culture moments, so having him in it was almost like a blessing,” Hanson said. “He was a consummate professional. He learned all the dance moves, got the wardrobe just right. He was great.” So, really, the video is a success on many different levels: It let the band realize a long-standing dream, it has earned them all sorts of exposure and it reunited them with old friends. And while all of that is nice, Hanson says the most important thing is that the clip seems to resonate with people of all generations. “On the surface level, some people may just see it as a bunch of dancing, and that’s great. But then, as a deep cut, a lot of people instantly recognize it as being a tribute to ‘The Blues Brothers,’ ” he said. “It was very much a labor of love for us. It was a true DIY production, much like everything this band does … we’re really happy so many people like it.” Related Artists Hanson
