Thanks to the success of Ride Along, Kevin Hart is officially on the A-List. But there’s at least one person who doesn’t think he belongs there. Appearing on a Dallas radio show this week, Mike Epps was asked to name an overrated comedian. “Kevin Hart,” replied Epps. “In this business, sometimes marketing can be bigger than talent. This business is not about being funny, it’s about being forced on people.” It’s safe to say Hart didn’t take well to this critique. According to Financial Juneteenth: Tommy Hilfiger was already an iconic fashion designer before he began recruiting hip-hop acts to wear his clothing; but with the help of artists like Aaliyah, Snoop Dogg, and Usher, his success grew tremendously. While Hilfiger has been the center of many rumors in the media for his alleged comments about not wanting minorities to wear his clothing, the 61-year-old still does not mind sharing his thoughts on the overall effect of hip-hop on his brand. In an interview on Bloomberg News, Hilfiger recognized the way hip-hop was able to accelerate his business, but claimed that he was simply following a trend. “Look, it fueled a lot of growth, but it took us away from our roots,” explained Hilfiger. “When people ask me advice, I say stick to who you are. Stick to your guns.” While Tommy Hilfiger remains a notable brand, it does not garner the same attention as it did in the 90s. Hilfiger says he should have focused on staying true to his vision for the brand back then as opposed to chasing after what was good for the moment. “There is an image and attitude to most brands, and that’s really important,” said Hilfiger. ”I like to stick to my heritage and not chase trends, and at that point we were chasing trends. According to TMZ: Rihanna is known to talk her fair share of smack, but a former bodyguard claims she went over the line and is now suing the singer for defamation … TMZ has learned. Geoffrey Keating filed a lawsuit today in Ireland, where his attorney was also granted a motion to serve Rihanna with the suit in the U.S. Keating claims Rihanna made “nauseatingly offensive” and false statements about him in an email to him and his partner last July. He also claims the offensive statements were made in a phone call to his sister. Keating served as head of security for Rihanna while she was on tour between October 2012 and July 2013. He claims the remarks have gravely injured his reputation and his business. Keating’s attorney, Gerald Kean, tells TMZ, “We’re taking this battle very seriously. We are satisfied that the Irish Courts will see justice at the end of the day.” If these allegations hold up in court, Rih just might have to drop a couple stacks to get this resloved. Lauryn Hill isn’t the only one with money problems … Wyclef Jean’s Business Manager Says He Is Broke Former Fugees member Wyclef Jean is reportedly broke, according his business manager. Via NewsOne reports: The Smoking Gun reports that the entertainer, who only a couple of years ago tried to run for the Haitian presidency, reportedly is in debt to Uncle Sam to the tune of $2.9 million in tax liens. Through a confidential agreement that was drawn up, the international 44-year-old Haitian ambassador reportedly said he would fork over $100,000 to entertainment law firm Shukat Arrow Hafer Weber & Herbsman to settle an outstanding bill of $133,000. Jean, according to The Smoking Gun, was requested to satisfy his outstanding debt with the law firm via two installments: $10,000 by last August 1 and another $50,000 by the end of last year. According to the alleged agreement, if Jean made the two payments totaling $60,000, the law firm would waive $40,000. If the entertainer, however, failed to make good on the agreement, an additional ten percent annual interest would also get tacked on to the $100,000. Jean did not make any payments to the firm, according to The Smoking Gun. His accountant, David Levin, reportedly sent out an email in January to the celeb’s creditors stating, “in my most professional verbiage…there ain’t no money.” The email was sent out in response to the law firm’s threats of impending court action against Jean. Levin reportedly told the legal eagles to go ahead and “file it” and they did. Now, Jean reportedly owes the firm $102,027.40. He has had other money woes in the past as well. Following the Haitian earthquake, Jean was questioned about the handling of the finances of his now defunct charitable organization, Yele Haiti. The non-profit foundation collected over $16 million in donations following the series of earthquakes that decimated the island’s capital city, Port-Au-Prince.
