Ambush Filmmaker O’Keefe Tried To ‘Punk,’ ‘Seduce’ CNN Reporter | TPMMuckraker

Editor's note: CNN takes an unprecedented look inside the young conservative activist movement in the documentary “Right On The Edge,” which airs Oct. 2 and 3 at 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. EST. http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/09/29/okeefe.cnn.prank/?hpt=T2 James O'Keefe, the young conservative activist who secretly recorded meetings with ACORN and was convicted in May of entering Sen. Mary Landrieu's office under false pretenses, allegedly tried to “punk” CNN reporter Abbie Boudreau by luring her on to a boat and seducing her. CNN reports on the scheme today, a few days before airing a documentary on O'Keefe and other young conservatives called “Right on the Edge.” The incident happened in August, when Boudreau was working on the documentary. According to CNN, Boudreau was trying to get O'Keefe to let her and a camera crew tape a video shoot O'Keefe and some of his friends were doing. He told her he wanted to meet her alone, in person, beforehand. When she arrived at his house in Maryland, she was approached by Izzy Santa, the executive director of Project Veritas, O'Keefe's investigative journalism project. Santa told Boudreau that O'Keefe actually wanted to meet with the reporter on his boat, which he had set up into a “pleasure palace,” where he would try to seduce her in front of hidden cameras. Boudreau left. CNN then obtained emails and a 13-page document outlining the plan. The plan, which Santa confirmed was real, had a list of “props,” including a “condom jar,” “dildos,” sexy music (like Alicia Keys, as Marvin Gaye was dubbed “too cliche”) and a camera on a tripod, which the filmmakers dubbed “an obvious sex tape machine.” There's also a script O'Keefe was supposed to read on camera before meeting with Boudreau. “I've decided to have a little fun,” reads the script. “Instead of giving her a serious interview, I'm going to punk CNN. Abbie has been trying to seduce me to use me, in order to spin a lie about me. So, I'm going to seduce her, on camera, to use her for a video. This bubble-headed-bleach-blonde who comes on at five will get a taste of her own medicine, she'll get seduced on camera and you'll get to see the awkwardness and the aftermath.” The document also predicts potential fallout from the plan. “If they [CNN] go on the attack, you should point out the hypocrisy in CNN using the inherent sexuality of these women to sell viewers and for ratings, passing up more esteemed and respectable journalists who aren't bubble-headed bleach blondes and keep the focus on CNN.” O'Keefe denied to CNN that he would have gone through with the plan, saying, “That is not my work product. When it was sent to me, I immediately found certain elements highly objectionable and inappropriate, and did not consider them for one minute following it.” The document was apparently written by Ben Wetmore, another activist who hired O'Keefe a few years ago and offered his place as a crash pad for O'Keefe and three others when they illegally entered Landrieu's office dressed as phone repairmen. Boudreau wrote about the episode on her CNN blog. “Apparently, I represent all of the things this group hates about the mainstream media,” she wrote. “They feel because of the way I look that I do not matter, and that my reporting is a joke. They don't know anything about my work ethic – my history – my dedication and commitment – and my love for reporting. They just saw my blonde hair. And the ironic thing is that I'm really a brunette.” added by: toyotabedzrock

Seth Walsh, 13, Commits Suicide After Facing Anti-Gay Bullying

*********************** http://www.lgbtqnation.com/2010/09/gay-teen-dies-after-10-days-on-life-support-f… According to reports, Seth was openly gay and was taunted by bullies for years, at school and at a local park. He attended Jacobsen Middle School last year and for only two weeks this year, before being transferred to independent study — reportedly because he had been bullied relentlessly. But school officials at Tehachapi Union School District claim there have been no reports of bullying. A 13-year-old high school student Seth Walsh died after spending 10 days on life support after an attempt to take his life. ******************************************************************* According to the details, Seth Walsh was a resident of Tehachapi, California and was studying at Jacobsen Middle School. Seth Walsh was being bullied at the school for being gay. After months of bullying, Seth Walsh tried to take his own life by hanging himself from a tree branch. He was found unconscious and was not breathing. Seth Walsh was airlifted to a nearby hospital where he was kept on life support for more than a week. On Tuesday afternoon, Seth Walsh took his last breaths. He is survived by his grandmother, mother, and three siblings. The police at the Tehachapi say that they cannot hold any child at the school responsible for the death of Seth Walsh as school bullying is not a crime. The school administration says that there are definitely policies inside the school which questions such activities and students are encouraged to get counseling. Seth Walsh’s family has requested for their privacy. Seth Walsh’s death follows the death of an 8th grader Asher Brown in Texas and Billy Lucas in Indiana. Like Seth Walsh, these two kids also committed suicide after becoming subject of relentless bullying and teasing at their schools. The family of Seth Walsh is holding a memorial service on Friday in Tehachapi First Baptist Church. Pro-gay organizations have taken notice the death of Seth Walsh and have requested others to talk and counsel other gay teenagers. added by: toyotabedzrock

CNN’s Phillips Endorses Liberal Minister Critical of Blacks’ Attitudes on Homosexuality

CNN’s Kyra Phillips gave a ringing endorsement to a Christian minister and his heterodox views on homosexuality on Monday’s Newsroom. Phillips interviewed televangelist Bishop Carlton Pearson, who, in her words, went ” out on a limb …[to] say gays are accepted in heaven ,” and concluded the segment by stating how she ” respect [s] very much ” what he preached on the highly-debated moral issue. The anchor led the 10 am Eastern hour with the allegations against Bishop Eddie Long, who has been sued by four young men so far who accuse him of coercing them into sexual relationships. Four minutes into the hour, Phillips introduced Pearson as a ” pioneering black televangelist and a close friend of Eddie Long’s…[who] l ost a lot of his flock when he began preaching that everyone has a place in heaven, including gay people .” She first asked the bishop, ” Why did you go out on a limb and say gays are accepted in heaven, something that the black church disagrees with? ” Pearson lauded his “gay friends” as ” some of the most sensitive, loving, creative, ingenious, generous people ” and touted how he ” started preaching the Gospel of inclusion ” and criticized how supposedly ” the devotion to the devil and hell is stronger, or as strong as anybody’s devotion to Jesus in many of the Christian circles .” After spending some time discussing what Pearson knew of Long, Phillips posited what would happen if the accused minister came out as a homosexual: “What if he does come forward, Bishop, and say, I told you I wasn’t a perfect man and I’ve been- I have been struggling with this issue, and he does say that he’s gay. What if this story changes? How will you deal with that? Will you accept him? Will you embrace him? How would you counsel him as his friend?” The CNN anchor’s guest devoted some of his subsequent answer to again criticizing the traditional Christian teaching on homosexuality and sexuality in general: “How do we deal with our sexual side, our sensual side, our spiritual side? They- because they interplay. They interact. So, it’s- it’s wrong for- I’m not for Christian cannibalism, eating our dead or dying, destroying them the way we do so many people .” Phillips and Pearson devoted most of the second half of the segment to discussing and critiquing black cultural attitudes towards homosexuality: PHILLIPS: You’ve talked about this as well, the issue of being a black gay man, especially in the Church, and a man within ministry- gospel music. There have been allegations that have come forward, there have been individuals that have come forward and said, I’m gay and have been completely shut out of the black church because of that. PEARSON: Yes. PHILLIPS: Why is it so unacceptable to be a black man and to be gay and to lead a flock? Why is it so taboo? PEARSON: Well, first of all- PHILLIPS: It’s not just biblical. I mean, there’s a cultural feeling here . PEARSON: Of course. Yes. That’s for white folks. Y’all are supposed to do, when in comes to that. We don’t do that kind of stuff. We [are] real men. That’s- I said that in jest, but that’s the underlying- PHILLIPS: No, but that’s interesting. That’s what’s going on. PEARSON: Yes. That’s we don’t do weird stuff. Now, the other hypocritical aspect of that is our churches, Kyra, are filled with same gender loving people, from the music department to the pulpits- black music, church music- where would it be without our same gender loving or gay musicians and singers? Not all of them are. PHILLIPS: But many have come to you and said, I’m gay, but I can’t come out. PEARSON: Oh, yes. Oh yes. PHILLIPS: And we’re talking very powerful people in the gospel industry. PEARSON: Yes, ma’am. PHILLIPS: I’ve met them. PEARSON: Yes, ma’am. With tears in their eyes, they were afraid. T here are people who’ve come to me and say, I embraced your gospel of inclusion, Bishop, but I can’t- it’s not a theological issue with me. It’s a business decision. I’ll lose my flock. I’ll lose my money. I’ll lose my parishioners. I’ll lose myself. I can’t love everybody. I can’t even love me, he would say. And I want to say to that group- and this is a wake-up call. Until the church, black or otherwise- confronts- not combats- confronts this issue of human sexuality and homosexuality, which is not going away- homosexuals and homosexuality is not going away- if every gay person in our church just left or those who have an orientation or preference or an inclination, or a fantasy, if everyone left, we wouldn’t have a church . The bishop even specifically targeted the Catholic Church in his criticism of traditional Christianity: PEARSON: There are gay doctors, police officers, attorneys, priests. Look at the whole Catholic Church. All this idea of celibacy. It’s not even natural, but it’s out. It’s like the Christian Church is having to confront its issues, its platonic, plastic, superficial portrayals of an angry God, a vicious God, an eternal place where everybody’s going to burn and this God with this terrible anger management problem who’s going to get you and then He’s going to turn you over to the devil, who’s going to accuse you to Him, and it’s fairy tale stuff. But we bought into it, and now we’re having to face the fact that maybe we missed it on many of these issues. Phillips enthusiastically responded to Pearson’s out-of-the-mainstream theology at the end of the interview: ” Well, I respect very much what you’ve preached, so I look forward to talking to you more about this .” This stance isn’t at all surprising, as the CNN anchor endorsed three of her previous guests who hold similarly heterodox views inside Christianity during a March 26, 2010 segment. She even brought back two of them a month later . CNN, as a whole, has latched onto promoting the agenda of homosexual advocacy groups during 2010. On August 4, the day that a federal judge overturned California’s Proposition 8, the network leaned mostly towards those who opposed the voter-approved amendment which bans same-sex “marriage.” A month and a half earlier, senior political analyst Gloria Borger gave a glowing profile of Ted Olson and David Boies , the two main attorneys who worked to overturn Prop 8. CNN also premiered their pro-homosexual parenting documentary, ” Gary and Tony Have a Baby ,” on June 24 and promoted it with a series of pro-homosexual agenda segments during that month.

AP’s Elliott Looks for Post-Delaware Primary ‘Expert’ Commentary From Lincoln Chafee

This goes back eleven days, but the entertainment value is too good to let it slide by without notice. On the Thursday after Christine O’Donnell defeated Mike Castle in the GOP primary for Delaware’s open U.S. Senate seat, the Associated Press’s Philip Elliott apparently felt the need to seek out an one-time Republican (or at least that’s what he said) — one of only a very few Republicans whose positions were or have been to the left of Castle’s. That would of course be former Rhode Island senator Lincoln Chafee (pictured at top right). To pick just one example to demonstrate Chafee’s liberalism, during 2006 and 2005, his final two years as a Senator, his grades from the Club for Growth came in at 27% and 26% , respectively. Castle’s grades in the House during those same two years were 48% and 43% . Gosh, Phil, was there any doubt over how Chafee would feel about Castle’s defeat and O’Donnell’s win? Is this news? Here are a few paragraphs from Elliott’s brief report , including a Chafee prediction that may be disproven in 5-1/2 weeks: Former Sen. Lincoln Chafee, a one-time Republican, says GOP Rep. Mike Castle should have seen the tea party challenge to his Senate bid coming. Chafee, running for Rhode Island governor as an independent, said his former party’s leaders have been forced to the right and have scared moderates out of the GOP. He pointed to Castle’s loss Tuesday as the latest example of a competent lawmaker losing his seat in an unrealistic purity test. “These primaries, they’re destructive beasts,” Chafee said in an interview with The Associated Press at his campaign headquarters. “If those people are going to control the Republican Party, good luck. You’ll have a tough time getting into the majority. Ever.” It’s still early of course, but Real Clear Politics is showing the House races at 206-191 in favor of the GOP, with 38 races undecided. If the “sure” count holds, Republicans would have to win less than a third of the still-undecided races to gain a majority (a shaky one to be sure, but Chafee was talking about any majority — “Ever”). RCP’s take on the Senate is that it is at 50-46 in favor of Democrats, but that counts New York’s Kirsten Gillebrand and California’s Barbara Boxer as “Leans Dem,” which given recent polls is open to some dispute. It would appear that Chafee’s predictive abilities might be about as reliable as his vote for sensible conservative bills and initiatives while he served in the U.S. Senate. Surely Philip Elliott could have found a more informed interview subject somewhere else. But does anyone believe that his was really his goal? Cross-posted at BizzyBlog.com .

Crowds Pack Cow Palace for Hemp Expo

Crowds were large Saturday and Sunday. The only surprise of the weekend is that a lot of those who came out spoke words of disapproval of California's Proposition 19, which would legalize pot for recreational use. A new poll shows Prop. 19 ahead, but it looks like that approval is coming from people who can't currently use it for medical purposes. Reporters covering the Daly City event said they found it hard to find any Prop. 19 love at the Cow Palace. http://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local-beat/Crowds-Pack-Cow-Palace-for-Hemp-Expo-1… added by: JackHerer

Big Alcohol’s decision to squash cannabis law reform to protect its bottom line

Alcohol Lobby Now Openly Spending Against CA's Legal Pot Initiative in Alliance with Police Industrial Complex It is said that politics makes strange bedfellows, but there are arguably few stranger than the emerging alliance between two of California's most powerful political players: the police-industrial complex and Big Alcohol. Campaign finance reports from the Golden State disclose that the California Beer and Beverage Distributors — a trade organization that represents over 100 beer distributors statewide — is one of the primary backers of the lobby group Public Safety First, sponsors of the No on Prop. 19 campaign. According to the California Secretary of State's office, the beer lobby donated $10,000 to Public Safety First on September 7, 2010. The donation came just days before PSF issued an online mailing alleging that the passage of Prop. 19 — which would legalize the private adult use and cultivation of limited amounts of cannabis, and allow local governments the option of regulating its commercial production and retail distribution — would inevitably lead to stoned school bus drivers and crossing guards, and will cause California public schools to “lose as much as $9.4 billion in federal funding.” (Needless to say, passage of the measure would do none of these things.) While it's hardly astonishing that the corporate beer lobby would oppose efforts to legalize marijuana, a non-toxic, ostensibly safer alternative to alcohol, it is surprising to see how quickly the law enforcement lobby — to date the largest supporters of PSF — is willing to get into bed with big booze. So far, the Cal Beer and Beverage Distributors $10,000 appropriation is one of the largest monetary donations received by Public Safety First, third only to the $30,000 donated by the California Police Chief's Association and the $20,500 donated by the California Narcotics Officers Association. (Overall, PSF has had a notoriously difficult time raising money for its effort. Last month, the East Bay Express reported that total financial contributions to the Prop. 19 campaign were well ahead of those reported for Public Safety First, which at that time had only raised $61,000, with just one citizen donor.) There's no doubt that police officers know firsthand the social toll caused by alcohol. Federal government estimates indicate that alcohol consumption costs the nation some $200 billion annually in hospitalizations, criminal expenditures and lost productivity. (Ironically, the nation's top drug cop, Drug Czar Gil Kerlikowske, has specifically highlighted the staggering social costs of alcohol abuse in his rhetoric against Prop. 19.) Government figures further indicate that alcohol is a contributing factor in at least 25 to 30 percent of all violent crime in America, including between 30 to 60 percent of homicides and perhaps as many as half of all sexual assaults. continued at link …… http://www.alternet.org/drugs/148213/alcohol_lobby_now_openly_spending_against_c… 's_legal_pot_initiative_in_alliance_with_police_industrial_complex/ added by: Conniepae
