Lady Gaga Inspired ‘To Write Music’ After Hearing Prop 8 Ruling

‘FULL EQUALITY! THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING!’ Gaga tweeted in response to the overturning of California’s Proposition 8. By James Dinh Lady Gaga Photo: Jon Furniss/ WireImage Lady Gaga is joining the chorus of famous gay-rights supporters applauding Wednesday’s overturning in California of controversial Proposition 8, which banned same-sex marriage. The pop star, who always been a vocal supporter of the gay community, has revealed she’s so happy about the ruling that it inspired her to write new music. “At the moments notice of PROP 8 DEATH I instantly began to write music. BUBBLE DREAMS FOREVER! FULL EQUALITY! THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING! REJOICE and CELEBRATE gay communities and straight all over the world. Our voices are being heard! Loud! SCREAM LOUD AMERICANOS!” she told fans on her Facebook and Twitter . Several other celebrities publicly cheered on the news that U.S. District Chief Judge Vaughn R. Walker ruled that the voter-approved ban was unconstitutional . Gaga, who has always taken a stand against discrimination towards the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community, most recently paid homage to them in her music video for “Alejandro.” “It is a celebration of my love and appreciation for the gay community, my admiration of their bravery, their love for one another and their courage in their relationships,” she told Larry King about the clip that features male dancers in a few homoerotic sequences. Earlier this year, the singer took a bold stand for high school student Cole Goforth, who was sent home from Greenbrier High School in Tennessee for wearing a T-shirt that read “I Heart Lady Gay Gay.” “Thank u for wearing your T-shirt proud at school, you make me so proud, at the monsterball, you are an inspiration to us all. I love you,” Gaga tweeted . “I love you Cole, you just be yourself,” she added while on tour in Australia. “You’re perfect the way God made you.” What do you think of Lady Gaga’s comments on the Prop 8 ruling? Kings of Leon Give Glimpses Of Sundown In Connecticut

There was not a pigeon in sight as the band showed off songs from their upcoming album on Tuesday night. By Jeremy Kaplan Kings of Leon (file) Photo: Douglas Mason/ Getty Images HARTFORD, Connecticut — New England got its fix of Southern-tinged rock on Tuesday night, when the Kings Of Leon stopped at Connecticut’s Comcast Theatre on their latest headlining tour. On the eve of the announcement that Come Around Sundown, the follow-up to their breakout album Only by the Night, would be out on October 19, the Kings mixed big radio songs like “Sex on Fire” and earlier favorites like “Milk” with new tracks. The band started their set with a bass-heavy “Crawl” as they entered the stage through clouds of swelling red smoke. A fifth backing musician, who remained without introduction the whole night, lent extra fullness to the sound accompanying frontman Caleb Followill’s croaky-on-purpose voice. KOL brought together the 20,000-strong crowd old die-hard followers and newcomers as all sang along to “Fans,” from 2007’s Because of the Times. The Followills also expanded on their Southern roots for some new blues-oriented, harmonized tracks, including “Immortals” and “Southbound.” The band’s clear sound and the well-timed camera-work for the video screens — zooming in on each musician during their key parts — gave the entire show the feel of an orchestrated live album. Given the unfortunate pigeon-attack of their recent gig in St. Louis , such a smooth-running show was probably a relief to band and fans alike. After playing a 75-minute powerhouse set, the Kings came back for an encore that included the radio phenomenon “Use Somebody” and closed the show with “Black Thumbnail.” After almost two years of nonstop touring, the boys from Tennessee showed little signs of slowing down. Avenged Sevenfold’s Johnny Christ On Band’s #1 Debut, Nightmare

‘It’s a testament to the fans about how much they care about what we do,’ bassist Johnny Christ says about topping the Billboard albums chart. By Kyle Anderson Avenged Sevenfold’s Johnny Christ Photo: Getty Images It looked as though Eminem’s Recovery would be spending most of the summer at the top of the Billboard albums chart, at least until Katy Perry got around to dropping Teenage Dream later this month. But as we learned this week, you should never count out the savage power of California punk-metallers Avenged Sevenfold, who stormed the top of the charts with their fifth album, Nightmare. It’s the first trip to the top of the chart for the band, and they celebrated appropriately. “I got the call from my manager last night,” bassist Johnny Christ told MTV News. “Unfortunately, Matt [Sanders, better known as M. Shadows] and Zack [a.k.a. Zacky Vengeance] were doing press in L.A., but me and Brian [a.k.a. Synyster Gates] went out to celebrate and had some dinner together. It was pretty fun. It was more about the drinks. We were just drinking, having a good time. We should have been being good boys and not drinking last night, but it’s the first time we’re on the top of the Billboard, and that only happens once. We had to do something.” Of course, the chart victory is bittersweet for the men of A7X, as the celebration had to happen without drummer Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan, who passed away in December 2009 of an accidental drug overdose. Christ (born Jonathan Seward) thinks of it as the latest in a long line of tributes to Sullivan. “The only thing we were worried about was getting it done and doing the best job we can for our brother,” he said. “We wanted to make this record as big and strong as possible. We wanted to make this a really huge record and get it out there to as many people as possible to extend Jimmy’s legacy.” In addition to the need to carry on Sullivan’s legacy, the men of Avenged Sevenfold were also fueled by their ever-growing fanbase, which has made them incrementally larger with each release. “We have the greatest fans in the world, and our growth has been so organic. It’s online, it’s out at the shows. It’s a big family, and they know we’re going to do our best, and we know they’re going to give it their best. “It’s a testament to the fans about how much they care about what we do,” he continued. “It’s not as much about the numbers as much as it is that our fans made a mark on this world for us.” Avenged Sevenfold are about to begin rehearsing for the Uproar Tour, which kicks off August 17 in Minneapolis and also features Disturbed, Stone Sour, Hellyeah and Halestorm. Scraper Bikes: Saving Kids’ Lives and "Going Green in The ‘Hood"

Open Thread: ‘The Blue State Tax Preference Act’

Democrats from wealthy districts are torn: they really want to raise taxes on the wealthiest Americans, but the problem is many of those Americans hail from their own districts! What to do . One irony of the tax increase that arrives on January 1 is that the it will hit residents of high-income, Democratic-leaning states like California, Connecticut, New Jersey and New York the hardest. This is a problem for pro-tax Democrats. Enter New York Representative Jerrold Nadler, who wants to exempt his own six-figure constituents from the tax hike he supports. Mr. Nadler’s bill would “require the IRS to adjust tax brackets proportionally in regions where the average cost of living is higher than the national average.” In other words, the various tax brackets would apply to residents in certain regions at higher income levels versus other parts of the country. A family with an income of $50,000 or even $1 million in Manhattan would pay less federal income tax than a family with the same earnings in Omaha. The bill is called the Tax Equity Act, but a more accurate title would be the Blue State Tax Preference Act. Really, did you expect anything less?

Image Of Impotence: Obama Admin Can’t Get Sherrod On The Phone

Operator, oh could you help me place this call? You see the number on the matchbook is old and faded.  Jim Croce, ‘Operator,’ 1972 The Obama administration, the folks that want to run our health care and who knows how much else of our economy and our lives, can’t get a simple phone call through to one of its former officials. In this afternoon’s press conference, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs repeatedly said that the Obama administration, through the person of its Agriculture Secretary, has tried but failed to have a phone conversation with Shirley Sherrod, the USDA official it forced out yesterday. ROBERT GIBBS: Secretary Vilsack is, has tried and is trying to reach Ms. Sherrod. When the Secretary reaches her, he will apologize for the events of the last few days, and they will talk about their next steps. . . . . GIBBS: The Secretary is trying to reach Ms. Sherrod . . . The next step that has to happen is the Secretary needs to speak with her. And he’s tried to reach her and we hope that they [inaudible]. What an image of impotence.  Will the MSM note it?
