Silva Ending Up Harsh Talks With Sonnen in UFC 117

UFC 117 will eventually take place August 7, 2010 at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California, United States. It will showcase the much anticipated match between Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen for the Middleweight title. Sonnen has been releasing insulting words against Silva who remained soft spoken up to this time. Silva being the title holder amazingly defended it against 12 fighters since UFC 64 when he defeated Rich Franklin via TKO way back 2006. Sonnen’s previous fights on the hand hs been jaw dropping when he managed to free himself from two deadly and very deep Guillotine Chokes in the first and third rounds by Nate Marquardt in UFC 109. Sonnen was declared as winner via unanimous decision. Both fighters has the potential to win and both has strong reasons to grab the title. Silva would surely not let Sonnen get the title that he has been defending for so long while Sonnen will prove to everyone that he is not only good at words but in actions as well. Silva has kept his profile low ever since. His awesome fights were often out shined by other more popular matches. UFC 117 Live Stream could be your solution to witness this much awaited event if you can’t make it to the octagon live, then it would be more exciting. Shanna Moakler to Carrie Prejean: Shame on You!

Shanna Moakler hasn’t exactly let go of her feelings for disgraced beauty queen Carrie Prejean. About a month after the former Miss USA contestant got married to Kyle Boller, Moakler spoke to In Touch Weekly and offered anything but congratulations. Focusing on Prejean’s infamous stance against gay marriage, Shanna said: “Isn’t it nice to be able to go and celebrate your love with your family and friends? How can you deny that joy that you experienced on that day to other living human beings? You should be ashamed of yourself!” In a way, Moakler has gotten the last laugh in this feud. A federal judge in San Francisco struck down Proposition 8 as unconstitutional this week, ending California’s ban on homosexual marriages. However, because Prejean’s 15 minutes are up and she exploited religion and milked every ounce of attention she received for every last penny back in the day, we’re guessing she couldn’t care less about this issue anymore.

Rosie O’Donnell Admits She Got Married in S.F. Merely As Act of ‘Defiance’ Against Bush

Rosie O’Donnell was in the news this week when she signed to do another TV talk show on the forthcoming Oprah cable network. But she’s still serving up leftist political goodies on her satellite radio show. Brian Maloney at Radio Equalizer found her declaring her “wedding” ceremony in San Francisco to former girlfriend Kelli Carpenter was a political protest stunt: George Bush, in the middle of a war, had an all-station news conference to announce how horrible it was for the safety of America that gay people were getting married in San Francisco, which pissed me off enough to get on a plane and go get married. Okay, first of all, on February 24, 2004 , President Bush didn’t call “an all-station news conference.” He made a rather routine statement (not a press conference) in the Roosevelt Room of the White House. And he didn’t say it was “horribly for the safety of America” that gays would marry. He did say the people had voted to endorse the traditional definition of marriage, and some activist judges in Massachusetts and city officials in San Francisco were overturning the will of the people of California. But to Rosie, everything she hears is exaggerated into hate, even as Bush called for civility and calm. She was making it sound like the Nazis were rounding people up: It was like an act of… defiance … If you’re gonna count up everybody who you think is not of value and round ’em all up and slap a pink triangle on ’em… I just felt like I wanted to be counted amongst the people who [some] were saying were unworthy and not allowed to have the same rights as everyone else. …If you’re a straight person and [same-sex marriage] offends you, call me and tell me why, [but] don’t say because marriage is traditionally between a man and woman, because, frankly, that’s such an old and tired line. Now, for a dose of reality, here’s how Bush began his statement : Eight years ago, Congress passed, and President Clinton signed, the Defense of Marriage Act, which defined marriage for purposes of federal law as the legal union between one man and one woman as husband and wife. The act passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 342-67 and the Senate by a vote of 85-14. Those congressional votes, and the passage of similar defense of marriage laws in 38 states, express an overwhelming consensus in our country for protecting the institution of marriage. In recent months, however, some activist judges and local officials have made an aggressive attempt to redefine marriage. In Massachusetts, four judges on the highest court have indicated they will order the issuance of marriage licenses to applicants of the same gender in May of this year. In San Francisco, city officials have issued thousands of marriage licenses to people of the same gender, contrary to the California Family Code. That code, which clearly defines marriage as the union of a man and a woman, was approved overwhelmingly by the voters of California. And here’s how he ended: The union of a man and woman is the most enduring human institution, honored and encouraged in all cultures and by every religious faith. Ages of experience have taught humanity that the commitment of a husband and wife to love and to serve one another promotes the welfare of children and the stability of society. Marriage cannot be severed from its cultural, religious and natural roots without weakening the good influence of society. Government, by recognizing and protecting marriage, serves the interests of all. Today, I call upon the Congress to promptly pass and to send to the states for ratification an amendment to our Constitution defining and protecting marriage as a union of a man and woman as husband and wife. The amendment should fully protect marriage, while leaving the state legislatures free to make their own choices in defining legal arrangements other than marriage. America’s a free society which limits the role of government in the lives of our citizens. This commitment of freedom, however, does not require the redefinition of one of our most basic social institutions. Our government should respect every person and protect the institution of marriage. There is no contradiction between these responsibilities. We should also conduct this difficult debate in a matter worthy of our country, without bitterness or anger. In all that lies ahead, let us match strong convictions with kindness and good will and decency. Thank you very much. Kindness and good will and decency — not to mention accuracy — aren’t qualities Rosie O’Donnell demonstrates once she starts talking about conservatives on the radio.

Texas Oil Companies Funding Campaign to Overturn CA Climate Law

A few years ago, the state of California passed a landmark bill designed to reign in carbon pollution to 1990 levels by 2020, and Governor Schwarzenegger signed it into law. Now, the trailblazing law is beginning to take effect — but wouldn’t you know it? The fossil fuel industry and conservative politicians who ally themselves with it are attempting to shut it down. In particular, a number of Texas-based oil companies have begun funneling millions of dollars into misleading campaigns designed to overturn California’s law…. Read the full story on TreeHugger

Katy Perry Denies Beach Boys ‘California Gurls’ Lawsuit

‘No one is suing anyone,’ Perry tweets. By Gil Kaufman Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” Photo: Matthew Cullen Everybody just needs to calm down, OK? That was the message being sent on Thursday from both sides of the alleged “California Gurls”/ “California Girls” flap. One day after the New York Post reported that the publishing company that handles the Beach Boys’ catalog was considering suing Perry over her song’s appropriation of the key phrase from the classic surf group’s 1965 hit, Perry weighed in on the alleged dust-up. “And just to be clear … no one is suing anyone,” she tweeted . “The press just loves to once again fabricate & exaggerate stories to get hits of sell papers.” In a statement sent to MTV News on Thursday, Beach Boys member Mike Love, one of the co-writers along with Brian Wilson of “California Girls,” said, “The Beach Boys are definitely not suing Katy Perry; in fact we are flattered that her fantastically successful song is bringing to mind to millions of people our 1965 recording of the Beach Boys’ ‘California Girls.’ We think her song is great and wish her all the success in the world.” According to Billboard magazine, a spokesperson for Rondor Music also confirmed that no legal action is imminent over Perry’s smash hit , which has sold 3 million copies and topped the singles chart for weeks. “There is no lawsuit against the writers or publishers of ‘California Gurls,’ ” an unnamed Rondor source said. “We have established diminutive claim. It is up to the six writers and various publishers of ‘California Gurls’ to decide whether they honor the claim or not. … Using the words or melody in a new song taken from an original work is not appropriate under any circumstances, particularly from one as well known and iconic as ‘California Girls.’ … Rondor Music, who publishes the works of Brian Wilson and Mike Love, is committed to protecting the rights of its artists and songwriters, and with the support of the writers, that is exactly what we are doing.” The original song features the famous refrain, “I wish they all could be California girls,” while Perry’s version has rapper Snoop Dogg saying, “I really wish you all could be California girls.” Both Love and Wilson have expressed admiration for Perry’s song , and their spokesperson stressed on Thursday that any legal action over it would be undertaken by Rondor, which owns the track, not by the group’s members. Ever-Ambitious Rachel Maddow Gets in Unsubtle Dig at Colleagues David Gregory and Chris Matthews

Only a matter of time before MSNBC’s answer to Eve Harrington ( shown here being introduced to theater critic Addison DeWitt/Keith Olbermann) took a shot across the bow of unsuspecting coworkers. On her show Wednesday night, Maddow recounted the “single strangest on-air moment for me” on election night in 2008 (video below the fold) — MADDOW: This happened after midnight East Coast time, Barack Obama had already won the presidency and we were here in this studio (Maddow, “Meet the Press” host David Gregory, “Hardball” host Chris Matthews, former congressman Harold Ford and Republican strategist Mike Murphy) covering the reaction to the election results around the country. And in the midst of that, with everybody else I work with here at MSNBC, this happened — GREGORY (describing aerial footage of large crowd in downtown San Francisco): I believe we’ve got some pictures out of San Francisco as well, some of the celebration pouring out in the Castro District of the city as it’s known. A place near and dear to your heart, Chris Matthews. MATTHEWS: Certainly me, having written for the papers out there all those years … MADDOW (interrupting): That may not all be celebration if it’s in the Castro and we haven’t gotten … MATTHEWS (reciprocal interruption): Well yeah, Prop 8 is … MADDOW (cutting Matthews off again, this time by abruptly ending clip in mid-sentence. Maddow now seen back in studio, waving hands for emphasis): Watch me saying, that may not all be celebrating, you guys! Have we heard anything about Prop 8? Which is Maddow actually asking, haven’t you heard about Prop 8? Duh! Note the curious hyperbole leading in, Maddow describing those on air with her at the time as “everybody else I work with at MSNBC.” You know, that cable network consisting of a single Sunday show host and two weeknight pundits. Despite the presence of “everybody else” at MSNBC, only she, the gimlet-eyed ingenue, can clearly see what’s happening while mortals remain oblivious. The segment may not raise an eyebrow if not for speculation that Maddow would make a splendid moderator on “Meet the Press” and should have been chosen instead of Gregory to succeed NBC patron saint Tim Russert. After every Maddow appearance on “Meet the Press,” for example, I watch for the inevitable story, usually via Huffington Post , of a ratings “burst” courtesy of Maddow’s presence. I’ll venture a guess that Gregory tracks his show’s ratings and knows when they spike, and with whom. Hmm, come to think of it, isn’t Olbermann more Margo Channing than Addison DeWitt?

Liberal Talk Show Host Thom Hartmann Says It’s Time for Gay ‘Reparations’

It’s one thing to have liberal guilt, but this is taking it way too far.  In a video posted to YouTube on Aug. 5 , popular liberal talk host Thom Hartmann, identified what he considered was the appropriate way to cope with this guilt type, specifically that of which came with the issue of LGBT rights. Hartmann hails himself as “the 10th most important talk show host in America, and the No. 1 most important progressive host, in their ‘Heavy Hundred’ ranking” according to Talkers Magazine . Hartmann laid out the reasoning chief U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker used in an Aug. 4 ruling that overturn California’s Proposition 8 gay marriage ban, a ballot initiative approved by over 7 million voters in 2008 . Then he added his own unique solution. “Well yesterday, Judge Vaughn Walker, the chief judge of the U.S. District Court in San Francisco, ruled that California’s Proposition 8, which said that it was illegal for gays to get married in that state, was unconstitutional,” Hartmann said. “He said that he based his ruling, although the right-wing is all over him for being gay himself – he said he based his ruling on the preponderance of scientific evidence that was presented to him in court, which indicated that the children of families of gay couples grew up every bit as normal, and in fact in some studies more normal and healthy, psychologically healthy, as the children of straight families and that gay couples and their relationships are every bit as psychologically, and socially, and economically significant and legitimate as are straight couples.” Hartmann, with his psychological expertise in hand, alluded to the reasoning in Walker’s ruling, added that the only basis for such a ban, despite the approval of those people, were “moral and religious views.” “He said that the evidence conclusively shows that moral and religious views form the only basis for the belief that same-sex couples are different from opposite-sex couples,” Hartmann said. “Very, very interesting.” To rectify this situation – Hartmann made the incredible call for reparations, singling out the Mormon Church to pay for gay weddings in the California for the next years. “You know, I – gay people in this country have a long history of discrimination, of hatred, of murder,” he continued. “Matthew Shepard, you know – tortured, dragged, dragged you know dragged at the end of a truck, tied to a fence post left to die in the desert sun for example. I think that we should have reparations for gays. I think that the Mormon Church, which contributed a large chunk, maybe as much half of the money or maybe members of the Mormon church, as much as half of the money from out-of-state to fund Prop 8 for the next 10 years should have to pay for every gay wedding in the state of California.” The next step of this case is for it to be heard by the left-leaning Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and then would likely be heard by the Supreme Court to determine whether it violates the 14th Amendment’s guarantee of “equal protection” and “due process.”
