Jesse James Alleges Death Threat From Ex-Wife

The chilling Mel Gibson tape , in which he berates ex-girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva, is apparently not the only celebrity death threat alleged this afternoon. Jesse James’ ex-wife, Janine Lindemulder, threatened to kill him in the past, according to what his lawyer just told the judge in their nasty custody battle. Fighting for custody of daughter Sunny, James personally has been testifying on the stand this morning, but hasn’t mentioned the allegation … so far. The motorcycle guru bought a house in Austin, Texas, and wants to take Sunny there so she can be closer to his most recent ex-wife, Sandra Bullock. Ex-wife #2 is far from pleased about that proposed plan. At least Jesse James and Sandra Bullock split amicably and quietly. He and his ex-wife are at each other’s throats in court, and it’s getting uglier every day . Over nearly five years of marriage, Bullock developed a close relationship with Sunny and his two older kids before his cheating led to their divorce. Lindemulder, who just got out of a halfway house and can’t leave the state of California, filed documents trying to stop the planned move by James. Janine says the Sandra Bullock excuse doesn’t hold water because if she really cared about Jesse’s children … she would have stayed in California. We’ll see what a judge has to say about that, but we know James has alleged on many previous occasions that unstable Janine is a threat to Sunny . A big enough threat to bar her from all contact? Stay tuned.

Activists keep Nev. horses from going to slaughter

;_ylt=AtQeDtKZfwZZCXk6AEHurqes0NUE;_ylu=X3oDMTN0NzB0aWN2BGFzc2V0A2FwLzIwMTAwNzExL3VzX2hvcnNlX3NsYXVnaHRlcl9yZXNjdWUEY2NvZGUDbW9zdHBvcHVsYXIEY3BvcwM2BHBvcwMzBHB0A2hvbWVfY29rZQRzZWMDeW5faGVhZGxpbmVfbGlzdARzbGsDYWN0aXZpc3Rza2Vl With the financial backing of a California winery owner, activists on Saturday purchased almost all 174 horses up for sale at a state-sanctioned auction in Nevada to keep the horses from going to the slaughterhouse. Stephanie Hoefener of the Lancaster, Calif.-based Livesavers Wild Horse Rescue group said activists purchased 172 horses for $31,415. The other two horses were acquired by private individuals for their personal use, she said. “We're excited so many people came together to save the horses,” Hoefener said. “This is amazing, and we all feel joyful.” The horses were rounded up by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management last month near the Nevada-Utah line and turned over to the Nevada Department of Agriculture for disposal. Agriculture department officials acknowledge the estray horses could have wound up at slaughterhouses because they did not have the federal protections afforded to wild-roaming horses. The horses are believed to be strays or descendants of horses abandoned by private owners over the years in Pilot Valley north of West Wendover. “For advocacy groups to step up to the plate and make a financial commitment like this to save the horses, we think this is a wonderful thing,” Nevada Department of Agriculture spokesman Ed Foster said. Jill Starr, president of Lifesavers, said the purchase of the horses at the Fallon auction was made possible by the financial backing of Ellie Phipps Price, owner of Sand Hill Durell Vineyards in Sonoma, Calif. Madeleine Pickens, wife of oil tycoon T. Boone Pickens, also contributedfinanciallyy. Starr said high bidders of such horses usually are representatives of slaughterhouses in Mexico and Canada. The meat of the horses is processed for sale in Europe and Asia, where it fetches as much as $25 a pound, she added. “We showed the BLM and the Nevada Department of Agriculture that we will not let them throw our wild horses away like yesterday's news,” Starr said. “They are important to every American and hold high value as part of our country's history.” BLM spokeswoman JoLynn Worley said her agency didn't consider the 174 horses as federally protected mustangs because they came from a valley with more than 200 landowners. “We look at the long-term history of what is going on out there in Pilot Valley,” she said. “Who knows what horses were released over time.” The BLM has launched an effort to remove thousands of wild horses from the range across the West, saying the roundups are necessary because the mustang population is growing so rapidly that the animals are running out of food and damaging the range. Activists have sued over the roundups, contending the agency is removing the mustangs to make room for livestock grazing and other interests. added by: 02

Governor ‘Moonbeam’ Employs ‘Tea Bagger’ Insult on MSNBC’s ‘Hardball’

If former California Gov. Jerry Brown , now once again a candidate for governor of California really wants to be sort of a unifier as he says, he might want to watch how he refers to some of his constituents. On MSNBC’s July 9 “Hardball,” Brown was interviewed by host Chris Matthews and was asked how he could make all the unions in California work together in a political way. (h/t @HayleyMcConnell ) “How do you deal with the kick-butt unions out there?” Matthews said. “They’re really tough. You have the correction officers, you got the police, you got the teachers, the nurses. These are tough, strong well-funded units that are politically cohesive. They took down Gov. [Arnold] Schwarzenegger when he tried to take them down. How do you make them work? How do you get them to serve the public and make reasonable compensation?” Brown wanted to make it clear that they were “all Californians first.” He defended the unions but took a shot at the Tea Party movement by using the “tea bagger” reference, which is a favorite of MSNBC personalities . “First of all you treat them with respect,” Brown replied. “You lay out your agenda, and you get everybody understanding we’re Californians first. We’re not Democrat or Republican or a member of this group or that group. And don’t just say unions are a powerful force. Hey, you know Wall Street destroyed $11 trillion worth of wealth. That’s powerful. No union could do that. Then there’s the tea baggers and the Chamber of Commerce. The key to democracy is leadership what can forge the common purpose. That’s what I feel my entire life has prepared me to take what I learn, work with the diversion conflicting factions and get this common pathway to the future. Seizing the assets of California, which after all is still the eighth wealthiest political entity in the world.”

Guess Which Liberal TV News Host This Is

This is a high school picture of a perilously liberal television news host:   Can you guess who it is? (answer follows, h/t TVNewser): Tough to believe that’s Rachel Maddow:  The “before” picture apparently comes from her high school yearbook. For those interested, Maddow grew up in Castro Valley, California, which is a town a few miles away from Oakland across the Bay from San Francisco. Exit question: would Maddow’s program be more popular if she was still a blond, or would her liberal views still interfere with her success?

Legalization could slash the price of pot 80%

Cost could drop to $38 per ounce if Proposition 19 passes, Rand Corp. researchers say. The tax implications and probable rise in consumption are impossible to predict, study finds. California's cash crop could become dirt cheap if the state legalizes marijuana. Researchers associated with the Rand Corp.'s Drug Policy Research Center said Wednesday that not much is certain about the potential impact of Proposition 19 except that the price of California's choicest weed could plunge more than 80%, down from $300 to $450 per ounce to about $38. http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-0708-pot-legalization-20100708,0,2661645… added by: unimatrix0

Open Thread: Arizona Guilty of Enforcing the Law

There are, contrary to popular belief, a number of states with immigration laws similar to Arizona’s. They are not, of course, being sued by the Justice Department. Why ? California is NOT being sued by the Federal Government for it’s law regarding illegal immigration and law enforcement cooperation with detaining suspects who may be illegal aliens. California’s law forbids ANY entity from interfering with the enforcement of this law, but California does not enforce this law, instead Los Angeles is boycotting Arizona and the Obama administration is spending million in taxpayer dollars to tell a court that States cannot enforce Federal laws, despite Federal laws that urge and seek local and state cooperation. Why isn’t California being sued? THE ANSWER IS SIMPLE- California has no intention of enforcing this law while Arizona does. What’s your reaction?

San Jose, CA Considers Privatizing Municipal Water to Bail Out Budget

Photo via Alex E. Proimos San Jose, California is having a lot of trouble closing its budget deficit. Mayor Chuck Reed told Mercury News, “I’m trying to be creative about balancing the budget. This is an obvious potential source of money, and I have to look at it seriously… I’d like to put it up on eBay and see what we can get.”… Read the full story on TreeHugger
