UC-San Diego Students Required to Take Exam Naked; Mom Complains

The University of California San Diego has some explaining to do. A student’s mother complained to local media that her daughter was required by the college to take an exam … in her birthday suit. Seriously. The mother, who did not want to be identified, told 10News that Associate Professor Ricardo Dominguez forced her daughter to take the exam naked. In order to pass “Visual Arts 104A: Performing the Self.” Natch. The mother stated, “There’s a perversion going on here. The fact he is a professor and has control over these students, I think he’s taking it way too far.” She continued, ”To blanket say you must be naked in order to pass my class … It makes me sick to my stomach.”  Dominguez confirmed to 10News that nudity is required for the final.  And in the 11 years he has taught the class, he has never received a complaint. Students are informed from the beginning that the final is to be taken in the buff .  Dominguez said, ”If [students] are uncomfortable with this gesture they should not take the class.”  Students can also get “figuratively” naked, the professor added. UCSD officials are standing by their colleague’s side. For now. Jordan Crandall, chair of the Visual Arts Department, defended Dominguez saying that the assignment is disclosed to the class at the beginning of the course. View Slideshow: Strange But True News Hall of Fame Crandall confirmed, “Students are aware from the start of the class that it is a requirement, and that they can do the gesture in any number of ways.” In other words, “without actually having to remove their clothes.” “There are many ways to perform nudity or nakedness, summoning art history conventions of the nude or laying bare of one’s ‘traumatic’ or most fragile and vulnerable self.” “One can ‘be’ nude while being covered.”  It appears that the complaining mother is the only one with the problem. Students defended their professor saying the exam is not sexual. Art major Ricardo Alex told 10News, ”Everyone’s going to be naked. She’s not being singled out, she’s not being abused.”  “She could take another class if she really didn’t want to get naked,” argued student Kim Garcia. Truer words have never been spoken. Carly Fiorina Announces 2016 Presidential Run; Former HP CEO to Seek GOP Nomination

Yesterday, retired brain surgeon Ben Carson announced his 2016 run for the GOP presidential nomination. Today, another controversial figure from the private sector has thrown her hat into the ring, and like Carson, she differs from the typical Republican nominee in many ways, but might ironically suffer in the primaries due to her old-guard views on several important issues. Carly Fiorina is best known for her tenure as CEO of Hewlett-Packard and her 2010 senate campaign, both of which ended badly. Even so, Fiorina believes she has the necessary name recognition and respect from her fellow Republicans to have a real chance in an already-crowded field of nominees.  “Yes, I am running,” Fiorina said today during an appearance on Good Morning America. “I think I’m the best person for the job because I understand how the economy actually works.” “I understand the world; who’s in it.” Often described as one of the worst tech CEOs of all time thanks to the disastrous HP-Compaq merger that she spearheaded in 2005, Fiorina entered politics after being forced to resign from by the board at HP. She went on to work with John McCain during his 2008 presidential run and even addressed the RNC that same year. Fiorina quickly developed a loyal following among conservative Republicans, but was soundly defeated when she attempted to unseat California Senator Barbara Boxer in 2010. “She’s a very talented candidate and connects well with voters,” says Marty Wilson said, a political adviser who managed Fiorina’s senate campaign. “The problem is after 2010, she was no longer a candidate. So mail lists and email lists tend to atrophy when they’re not in use.” As with Carson, Fiorina’s lack of political experience could prove to be a major liability, but both candidates are likely hoping that voters will share their belief that a Washington outsider is just what the White House needs. Prisoner Carves 666 Into His Head…Backwards

Nebraska Inmate Makes Mistake While Self-Mutilating His Face An Omaha inmate carved the number 666 into his forehead , using a mirror as his guide…but with a poor grasp of how reflections work, he ended up making a series of inverted 9’s instead. But it seems it may have been his latest stunt in a bid to avoid the death penalty for his crimes. Via Omaha.com : Jenkins told a Douglas County judge during a recent telephone hearing that he “self-mutilated” by trying to carve “666” into his forehead. The problem? Jenkins was looking in a mirror. So he carved the 6s backward — making them look more like upside-down 9s, according to court officials. Jenkins reportedly told Douglas County District Judge Peter Bataillon that he carved the 666 — known in the biblical book of Revelation as the number of the Beast — because he is not receiving treatment for his purported mental illness. He asked the judge to order the Nebraska State Patrol to investigate. Bataillon declined. It is not clear yet whether Jenkins will use the latest self-mutilation to try to get himself again declared incompetent before he can face a death-penalty hearing. Jenkins mutilated himself last year, and Bataillon delayed his death-penalty hearing. It took a year before the judge declared him competent to stand trial. Jenkins’ disclosure of a Manson-style mark — the California killer has a swastika between his eyes — was just the latest antic in a case that has dragged on for 20 months. Somehow we feel like living out your days in maximum security prison with a heavily mutilated face isn’t MUCH better than going ahead and facing the death penalty… Douglas County / James R. Burnett via The World Herald

Guess What’s Happening To A California Teacher Who Told 8th Graders Lincoln Was A ‘N***er Lover’?

Teacher Calls Lincoln A N-Word Lover A racist California teacher whose made a series of disparaging remarks in his classroom isn’t getting sued, but the school district who has yet to fire him is. LosAngeles.CBSLocal reports: A Brentwood parent is suing the school district, charging that a male teacher made offensive and racially charged comments in his class in front of and focused on his biracial daughter. The suit alleges civil-rights violations and seeks unspecified damages as well as a court order directing that the Los Angeles Unified School District provide accommodations to students “free from prohibited discrimination.” The plaintiff is under 18 and is half black and half white, according to the suit filed Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court. She started Paul Revere School two years ago as a seventh-grade student and selected the campus because of its racial and socioeconomic diversity, according to the complaint. Early this year, the student was assigned to an eighth-grade history class taught by Steven Carnine. On Jan. 16, the day after the birthdayof slain civil-rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., Carnine handed out a questionnaire that asked about racial stereotypes, according to the plaintiff. During a follow-up discussion, Carnine brought up the shooting of Brown by former officer Darren Wilson. “In discussing the incident, Carnine said that the guy was a thug and he got what he deserved,” according to the suit, which alleges that theteacher also said: “Black people are judged for not being smart because they are not smart. A lot of them are just athletes.” Carnine went on to say that if he was walking alone at night and there were two black men behind him, he was “immediately going to be scared and think they are either going to steal from me or hurt me,” the lawsuit alleges. The girl’s father complained to Principal Christopher Perdigao, who replied that Carnine was “old school” and that the best way to solve the issue was to try and meet with him, the suit alleges. However, that same day, Carnine, during a lecture on the Civil War, stated that “people didn’t like Lincoln because he was a (N-word) lover,” the complaint alleges. Carnine was “staring and smirking” at the plaintiff when he made the remark, according to the suit.

The Dream: Charges Dropped In Baby Mama Assault Case

The Dream: Domestic Violence Case Dismissed The Dream danced his way out of an NYC court late last week as the nearly year-long domestic violence case against him was dismissed altogether. The songwriter always maintained that he never laid his hands his former girlfriend, a non-US citizen, and insisted that she was just trumping up charges to gain sympathy to remain in the United States. Via NY Daily News : The-Dream, the 37-year-old music industry bigwig whose real name is Terius Nash, was charged with choking and roughing up his then-pregnant girlfriend Lydia Nam in April 2012. Nam told authorities that Nash threatened to kill her “like O.J. Simpson killed Nicole Brown” during the altercation. But Nash was cleared of charges, including felony assault and strangulation, at a brief appearance in Manhattan Criminal Court. “After a thorough investigation, we have determined that we cannot prove this case beyond a reasonable doubt,” prosecutor Jacqueline Cornell said. She did not elaborate on the Manhattan District Attorney’s decision. Nash, said he felt “joy” over the result and did a short dance by the elevators while sharing a light moment with his new bride, Lalonne Martinez. “God has a way,” he said. “I’m relieved, that’s all.” We bet he’s relieved! Had there been evidence to rule him guilty, he could have faced 7 years in prison.
