Chobani Greek Yogurt Selected As Meat Substitute For Federal Lunch Program

Beginning this fall, Chobani Greek yogurt will be served as a meat substitute in school lunches. Officials announced the news yesterday by stating the yogurt was selected by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to be part a part of the United States’ federal school lunch program… The yogurt is made with hormone-free milk and has twice the amount of protein as traditional yogurts… Chobani is based in New York and owns the largest yogurt processing factory in Idaho… With this new contract between Chobani and the government, the hope is that children will have healthier futures. [ Madamenoire ] Supreme Court Poised To Take Case That May Wipe Out Public Sector Unions On Tuesday, the U.S. Supreme Court agreed to take on a case that may nix laws that demand mandatory union payments from all public employees from certain professions, USA Today reports. Ten California public school teachers are challenging public unions, claiming that the obligatory collection of union fees — even from non-union members — to support collective bargaining is a violation of their First Amendment rights. The lawsuit, funded by Washington-based conservative group Center for Individual Rights, said that full dues for teachers who are a part of the union are $1,000, LA Times reported. Non-union members must pay $650 for the cost of collective bargaining. The teachers are seeking to overturn Abood v. Detroit Board of Education. The End of Mad Men: What to Expect From the Series Finale

After seven seasons of critically-acclaimed existential despair, Mad Men will come to an end on Sunday, and even the most devoted fans really have no idea what to expect from the finale. That’s not because the show is known for wild, Shyamalan-esque twists (though there were certainly some surprises over the years), but rather because, like The Sopranos (the show on which Matthew Weiner cut his teeth), Mad Men is unpredictable in the sometimes maddening and often meandering way that real life is. Back in 2007, it seemed that fans who expected Tony Soprano to go out in a blaze of glory hadn’t really been paying attention over the years, and the same can now be said for the viewers who want Don Draper to tumble from a skyscraper or find lasting peace on a California commune. We’re not claiming to know what will ultimately become of the man once known as Dick Whitman, but we can tell you his fate almost certainly won’t be a perfect match with any of the most popular predictions. Weiner and his writers are known for their subtle foreshadowing (We figured there was going to be a suicide in season five, but most fans guessed Pete Campbell would be the one to check out early.), but even so, trying to guess exactly what will happen to Don in the series finale is sure to be about as fruitful an exercise as predicting where you yourself will be in five, ten or twenty years. And therein lies much of the appeal of a series that often feels more like great literature (and dare we say, real life?) than a television show.  In something of a surprise move, the penultimate episode gave us more in the way of definitive endings and hints about the future than we’ve come to expect from Mad Men. There were some illuminating callbacks and allusions in a season that’s already been filled with them, and the Internet is currently abuzz with theories and conjecture. Even so, Don’s future remains almost as characteristically murky as it’s ever been. The show has never really trafficked in bombshells, so it makes sense that in a way, the two big surprises in Mad Men Season 7 Episode 13 have been telegraphed for years. Cigarettes and war were the specters looming over this show from day one. In fact, Don’s opening bit of dialogue in the very first episode was about smokes and military service. Mad Men Episode 1, Scene 1 So it makes sense that the unwelcome surprises that greeted Don and Betty last week were directly related to the deadly boogey-men that so often made headlines in the 1960s (and ’70s). Betty’s diagnosis and Don’s beat-down were both classic Matt Weiner plot developments – the kind of surprises that you realize you should have seen coming only after they blindside you. But what now? We’ve likely seen the end of both Betty and Pete (His happy ending may have been more of a shock than her tragic illness.), and while we could spend days discussing whether or not those characters deserved more or less from the writers, the really important question at this point is, What about Don? The last we saw of Mr. Draper/Whitman, the once-imposing ad man was at an Oklahoma bus stop, a rumpled Sears bag his only luggage. Many fan theories went out the window (no pun intended) following the death of Betty, as while Don wasn’t always the most attentive parent, he’ll likely man up when it comes time to care for Bobby and Gene. Some feel that his newfound single-parenthood will prevent Don from reaching his West Coast Shangri-La. (A recent episode was titled “Lost Horizon,” which is also the name of the novel that gave us that term for an Edenic paradise.) Others think he’ll shirk his duties and keep right on drifting. One interesting theory has the Draper boys relocating to Europe , and as absurd as it might sound, the move would actually make a fair amount of sense, if only because it would enable Don to resume living his life as Dick Whitman. View Slideshow: 9 Memorable Mad Men Moments It’s tempting to try to cobble together the clues and toss out the red herrings in search of a clear indication of what’s to come, in much the same way that we’d love to see our own futures with crystal ball-clarity. However, in both cases, it’s highly unlikely that the major events will be wrapped up in a neat little package that perfectly makes sense of everything it encapsulates. All we know at this point is that Don is heading West, just like unmoored Americans have for centuries. Like the pioneers of yore, his future is uncertain and he’s guilty of more than his fair share of atrocities, but despite the destruction the ad man of mystery has left in his wake, many of us still hope he’ll find some modicum of contentment wherever he lands. And we hope for our own sake that the future of television will offer characters just as frustrating, baffling, and strangely identifiable as the farm-boy-turned-corporatized-creative-genius-turned-beatific-drifter that we met first in a smoke-filled Manhattan bar back in 1960. If you still need to get caught up in time to avoid those Monday morning spoilers, you can always watch Mad Men online at TV Fanatic.

Scott Disick: Fat-Shaming Kourtney Kardashian?

Is Scott Disick actually fat-shaming his three-time baby mama Kourtney Kardashian online? That’s how some fans are interpreting his recent actions … We recently saw a photo of Scott fondling Kourtney on vacation in Mexico, which certainly implied that all is well between the celebrity couple. But Disick apparently makes no secret of being super tough on her body , throwing shade subtly by randomly sharing bikini pics of her from 2010. Are we reaching here? Possibly a bit, but his partner was quick to follow up with a post saying that she needed “to start back hard core in the gym.” According to an insider, the father of Mason, 5, Penelope, 2 and five-month old Reign has been a non-stop, relentless critic of Kourtney physically: “Scott is always trying to remind Kourtney of how hot she used to be.” “It is totally unfair because she had three children that were his doing, and for her to be able to look like she did prior to having the kids is just impossible.” “She is beautiful just the way she is and her friends are constantly telling her to just ignore his insults. But it is hard [when it’s from Scott].” Fans of the beauty know Kourtney Kardashian’s weight was revealed to be 116 lbs. (quite healthy for a 5’0″ woman), and have supported her. View Slideshow: Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick: Their Sweetest Moments One follower responded to her Instagram gym comment as such: “Start back?? You look incredible!! What’s there to change?” Apparently for Scott, quite a lot, as if he should talk. “Ever since Scott got on his fake health kick – he just drinks a smoothie and thinks he is healthy – he has been extra cruel,” the source says. “The sad thing is that she actually listens to his criticism and goes into a place in her head where she thinks she needs to be a size zero to keep him.” This dynamic has been going on for several years, too, and may come as no surprise to those who believe Disick is cheating on Kardashian . In 2013, Disick actually said “this would be my ideal weight” when she was 105 lbs., though “I fell in love with you when you were super skinny.” Kourt reportedly weighed 95 lbs. before giving birth to their first child. Kardashian told him that she’s “trying to [lose weight] the healthy way.” Disick’s response, half-joking but maybe not really? “Just do it faster … you’re my piece of machinery!” View Slideshow: 36 Eye-Katching Piks of Kourtney Kardashian

Nina Dobrev Posts Throwback Pic, Joins #GoodbyeElena Movement

Nina Dobrev has officially left The Vampire Diaries. Creator Julie Plec and company came up with a unique way to write the character of Elena Gilbert off on The Vampire Diaries Season 6 Episode 22 , as a cursed Elena is now tied to Bonnie forever. Until Bonnie dies, Elena will remain unconscious. So, yes, this does leave open some door for Dobrev to return at some point. But that isn’t the plan, according to Dobrev, Plec and everyone else connected to the series. Elena is really (quasi) dead and gone, with fans mourning her demise last night and Dobrev herself active on Twitter. The beautiful star jumped in to the #GoodbyeElena trend, posting a few throwback photos of her time on set and sending a heartfelt message to fans. “I COULD NOT do it without all of you,” she Tweeted last night. “Thank you so much for all the love and positivity from you unbelievably passionate and amazing fans. Your support means more to me than I will ever be able to express with words.” Dobrev put to rest chatter this week that she left the series due to a clash or any awkwardness with ex-boyfriend Ian Somerhalder. View Slideshow: 21 Epic Elena Gilbert GIFs “I love him and the friendship is still strong and I think he’s great and I care about him,” Dobrev told E! Online, repeating simply that her six-year contract was up and she felt it was time to move on. Might we see her somehow return on an eventual series finale? It’s not completely out of the question. But viewers need to prepare for The Vampire Diaries Season 7 , having no expectations for any Elena Gilbert sightings at any time.

Kelly Rutherford Petition to Bring Kids Home Boasts 100,000 Signatures: Will it Matter?

Desperate to bring her kids home from Europe, where they live with her estranged husband, Kelly Rutherford is taking her plight to the people. Kelly’s We the People petition asking for the government to intervene in her epic six-year custody case reached the 100,000-signature mark. That means the White House will review her request and issue a response … the question is whether it will matter at all in achieving her goal. The former Gossip Girl cast member said of the petition: “I feel so blessed to have so much support for me and my children. I am optimistic that the Obama administration will step in and rescue my children.” Listing off some of her famous supporters, she added: “I want to mention Ed Westwick, Kris Jenner, Kim Kardashian, Melanie Griffith, Selma Blair, Francis Fisher, Marianne Williamson and so many others.” Name-checking Kim Kardashian in a public plea to be taken seriously regarding a serious subject? Interesting strategy to say the least, Kelly. Recently Rutherford lost her legal fight to return Hermes, 8, and Helena, 5, to the U.S. from France, where they live with her ex Daniel Giersch. A California judge ruled that because his work visa had been revoked, the children would reside with him, and Rutherford must fly to go visit. Rutherford, ironically, is believed to be responsible for keeping him out of the U.S. after she reported him for dealing drugs and weapons. She adamantly denies this, and says that in their custody agreement, the judge told Giersch to reapply for his visa … which he has not done. So does Rutherford’s petition have a shot? A State Department spokesperson anonymously said that U.S. intervention would be unlikely. Rutherford’s attorney, Wendy Murphy, says a California family court judge violated Kelly’s constitutional rights and those of her children. “How on earth can two utterly innocent and defenseless American children be shipped like luggage to live in a foreign country?” she said. But a family lawyer not involved in the dispute argues that Rutherford would stand a much better chance in the international legal system. Her petition may be a powerful public cry and earn a lot of attention, but this is not a kidnapping case and Giersch was granted custody. In other words, it’s an uphill battle at best for Kelly.
