‘Hunger Games’ Stars Give Updates On ‘Catching Fire’

Josh Hutcherson tells MTV News that director Francis Lawrence ‘has his finger on the pulse of the story.’ By Kevin P. Sullivan, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Josh Hutcherson arrives at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images UNIVERSAL CITY, California — Coming off their big night at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards , the cast of ” The Hunger Games ,” which took home four buckets of Golden Popcorn, is already planning the next installment of the series, ” The Hunger Games: Catching Fire .” MTV News’ Josh Horowitz caught up with stars Josh Hutcherson and Elizabeth Banks during the awards ceremony to find out where preparations for “Catching Fire” currently stand. Last week came word that the crew may leave behind its North Carolina location from the first film for a shoot further south in Atlanta. Hutcherson told MTV News that he hasn’t heard a definitive word on the location, but he is looking forward to the shoot. “I haven’t heard anything confirmed yet, but Atlanta is a big possibility. I know they’re looking at Hawaii, too, for some of the tropic stuff when we’re in the Games itself,” he said. “I’m excited. It’s going to be somewhere nice. I’m looking forward to it.” A possible change in filming location would be a minor shift compared to the director swap that captured headlines months ago. Hutcherson said that he recently saw the new director, Francis Lawrence , and is excited about his vision for the next adaptation. “I just had lunch with him a couple days ago, and he’s fantastic. He’s so smart and really has his finger on the pulse of the story, and I love the way he’s going to structure the script,” Hutcherson said. “The first thing he said to me was, ‘I want to make the movie out of the book. I want the book to be the best movie possible.’ That was immediately what he led with, which meant a lot to me because the books mean a lot to me.” Sunday night’s winner for Best On-Screen Transformation , Elizabeth Banks, on the other hand, has not spoken with Lawrence, though she understands why. “They’re so early in the process. That seems silly to say because we’re going to make the movie in a few months,” she said. “But I think he’s just started, and we have just gotten scripts, and it’s just sort of all happening.” As for whether she can share any details from the script she just read, Banks kept her secrets to herself. “I can’t tell you anything,” she said. “I read a book called ‘Catching Fire’ that I’m pretty sure the movie will be based on.” Jaw-dropping, heart-pounding, gut-busting moments galore. Shailene Woodley’s Movie Awards Win Causes ‘A Waterfall Of Sweat’

‘I don’t even remember what happened, except for Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield’s smiling, awesome faces,’ she tells MTV News. By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Shailene Woodley at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images UNIVERSAL CITY, California — It was Shailene Woodley ‘s first time at the MTV Movie Awards , and also her . “The Descendants” star took home the Best Breakthrough Performance Golden Popcorn and commanded the stage during her acceptance speech. But it turns out she was actually much more nervous than she let on. “I started sweating a whole lot. Like, a waterfall of sweat,” she reminisced when MTV News caught up with her immediately after her win. “I don’t even remember what happened, except for Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield’s smiling, awesome faces. Thank God they were up there. I would have been so nervous.” Sure, Woodley was nominated for a number of prestigious awards thanks to her fantastic performance in “The Descendants,” including a Golden Globe nom. But being invited to — and winning at — the MTV Movie Awards is still a big accomplishment in her life. “It’s the MTV Awards!” she gushed. “Let’s be real. This is crazy.” It turns out that this was an especially great experience for Woodley because she is a huge Russell Brand fan. She called his “awesome” and then dove into her passion for his particular brand of comedy. “He’s one of my favorite comedians. I think he’s just so effing funny, and I’m all about him and everything that he’s saying. He’s like a political, or like an anti-political activist, you know? And I really love his revolutionary thinking. I’m into it,” she said. “[He has] a really profound message, and without being preachy.” Jaw-dropping, heart-pounding, gut-busting moments galore. Channing Tatum Dishes On ‘G.I. Joe’ Sequel Pushback

‘I did my part and then all this stuff is going on,’ Tatum tells MTV News after Movie Awards. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Eric Ditzian Channing Tatum arrives at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Steve Granitz/ WireImage UNIVERSAL CITY, California — Before Channing Tatum and Matthew McConaughey graced the 2012 MTV Movie Awards stage with their memorable presentation of the Best On-Screen Transformation award and utterly distracted us, MTV News caught up with Tatum on the red carpet to check in on an entirely different subject. We wanted to know the status of the recently rescheduled release of “G.I. Joe: Retaliation.” “I don’t know. Truly,” Tatum said when asked if the rumors we’d see more of him in the revamped sequel are true. “I haven’t seen the movie. I did my part and then all this stuff is going on, so they haven’t come to talk to me about anything. They talk about a lot of stuff; who knows if it’s the industry or the actual studio? You never know.” But everything is better with a little more of the “Magic Mike” star in it, right? “Sometimes? I don’t know,” Tatum said. “You have to have the exact right amount of Chan.” “Duh,” Tatum’s lovely wife, Jenna Dewan, answered for her husband. “I say yes.” So no matter our desire for more Tatum, the official studio line on the push-back is that Paramount wants to convert the film into 3-D. They made the move in hopes that adding three dimensions will translate to more impressive international box-office numbers. “We’re going to do a conscientious 3-D job, because we’ve seen how it can better box office internationally,” an unnamed studio exec recently said of the switch. “Jim Cameron did all of ‘Titanic’s’ 3-D in post — and look how well that movie turned out.” Other reports indicated that Tatum’s star is now shining too bright to kill his character off early on in the film, as was originally rumored and only partially confirmed by Duke himself. “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” is scheduled to open March 29, 2013. Jaw-dropping, heart-pounding, gut-busting moments galore. See what just happened at the 21st annual MTV Movie Awards ! ‘Twilight’ Cast Marvels Over Four-Year Movie Awards Dominance

‘Breaking Dawn’ stars talk to MTV News about the ‘honor’ of meeting Jodie Foster, who presented the Movie of the Year award. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Jackson Rathbone Photo: MTV News UNIVERSAL CITY, California — On Sunday night at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards , the cast of “Twilight” picked up a few more Golden Popcorn trophies to add to their collective mantle. In addition to winning Movie of the Year, they also won Best Kiss , marking fourth time the series has won in both categories. “A little tired, a little surprised, honored to be up there with [presenter] Jodie Foster and honored to be in the ranking with a lot of amazing films this year,” Jackson Rathbone told MTV News. “So thank you very much, world.” Given who they were up against in the Movie of the Year category, including “The Hunger Games,” co-star Julia Jones actually wasn’t sure they could win again. “There’s a lot of competition this year, and I think for the first time I was like ‘I don’t know.’ There’s some really amazingly large franchises now,” she said. “And I guess we’re still winning.” Rathbone added, “As we’re wrapping up, to have so much love still and you gave us a four-peat, so thank you. That’s something that not a lot of people can say.” BooBoo Stewart went on to describe how “incredible” it felt to take the stage to accept the award. “Just to be up on that stage accepting an award, in front of everybody and feeling the love from the fans was really cool.” Nikki Reed said what was even more incredible was having Foster hand them the prize. “She put her hand out after we walked offstage and I just ‘Oh my god, it’s a real honor.’ ” Jaw-dropping, heart-pounding, gut-busting moments galore. Black Keys Starting A Band With Johnny Depp After Movie Awards?

Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney joke about forming a T. Rex cover band with Depp and Matthew McConaughey. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Johnny Depp and the Black Keys perform at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images UNIVERSAL CITY, California — The 2012 MTV Movie Awards only just ended, but we can’t get over the epic onscreen performance/award presentation between the Black Keys and Johnny Depp. Not to mention the fact that they were introduced by rock gods Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith. When MTV News caught up with the Keys themselves, Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney, backstage after their performance, we asked them how they were feeling after coming offstage. “Super normal, that’s a normal moment for us,” Auerbach joked. “Yeah that’s our normal lives, hanging out with rock stars and movie stars, you know. It was actually a little boring.” “I was trying to hold back yawns,” added Carney. We then tried to get to the bottom of how the unexpected collaboration came to fruition, but even the Keys themselves seemed to have no idea. “I don’t know, I think MTV has a random computer generator,” Auerbach joked, with Carney chiming in, “It was supposed to be us and Regis Philbin, but we rejected it.” In all seriousness, the duo had nothing but praise for their guest star, particularly his preparation and skills on the guitar. “He’s a really good guitar player,” Carney said. “Yeah, no joke. He’s a really good guitar player,” Auerbach reiterated. So now that they’ve played with one of the biggest movie stars on the planet, what other movie stars will the Keys be collaborating with in the future? “Matthew McConaughey on bongos,” Carney joked. “We’re going to start a T. Rex cover band with Johnny Depp and Matthew McConaughey as Mickey Finn.” And now that they’ve finished their work for the night, will the guys be meeting up with Depp after the show? “We’re all going to go meet up at Se

Josh Hutcherson Wins Best Male Performance Movie Award

‘Hunger Games’ star beats out Daniel Radcliffe, Channing Tatum, Ryan Gosling and Joseph Gordon-Levitt for the coveted Golden Popcorn. By Ryan J. Downey Josh Hutcherson wins at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images UNIVERSAL CITY, California — “The Hunger Games” stormed the box office to the tune of nearly $400 million, and at Sunday’s MTV Movie Awards , the man fans know and love as Peeta Mellark clutched a different type of riches in his hand: a Golden Popcorn. Thanks to the massive number of fans who voted for him, Josh Hutcherson took home the award for Best Male Performance at the 21st annual awards show. “Oh, my god. I’ve wanted to hold a Golden Popcorn since I was like 4 years old. This is incredible,” he said from the stage, as he accepted the award from Emma Watson, Logan Lerman and Ezra Miller. “It’s insane too, because every single one of those actors I admire and I want to be, so to even be up here is blowing my mind right now.” Hutcherson thanked “Hunger Games” author Suzanne Collins, director Gary Oldman, his producers like Nina Jacobson and Jon Kilik, Lionsgate and, of course, the fans. “You guys are the best fans in the world,” he gushed. “You’re crazy and passionate and you make our job amazing.” The 19-year-old Kentucky-born actor joined an esteemed list of A-listers, guy’s guys and heartthrobs who have taken home the esteemed award, including Arnold Schwarzenegger, Denzel Washington, Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise and Leonardo DiCaprio. The former child star beat out a formidable array of challengers who all more than earned their places in the category: , Channing Tatum , Ryan Gosling and Joseph Gordon-Levitt . Radcliffe was nominated for his final performance as the world’s most beloved boy wizard in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2.” Tatum cruised into the category for his role opposite Rachel McAdams in the tear-jerking romantic drama “The Vow,” which also earned him a nomination for Best Kiss. Gosling, who won the Best Kiss category once upon a time (with McAdams) thanks to “The Notebook,” was nominated for the darkly pensive and critically acclaimed drama “Drive.” Gordon-Levitt, who we’ll be seeing again in “The Dark Knight Rises” this summer, gave a nuanced performance in “50/50.” Anticipation for the next entry in the “Hunger Games” series, “Catching Fire,” is already running high. Earlier in the week, “John Carter” star Taylor Kitsch shot down rumors that he’d play dreamy District 4 tribute Finnick Odair, something Robert Pattinson debunked himself, as well. MTV Movie Awards Go Live Tonight! Who Will Win Big?

The Girl on Fire and the Boy Who Lived are destined for Golden Popcorn greatness, while big things are in store for ‘Dark Knight Rises’ and ‘Magic Mike’ fans as well. By Josh Wigler Jennifer Lawrence in “The Hunger Games” Photo: Lionsgate UNIVERSAL CITY, California — Happy MTV Movie Awards day, and may the odds be ever in your favor! You have no shortage of films and stars to root for when tuning into the big show tonight (June 3) at 9 p.m. ET, and that only makes the decisions harder. How can you possibly choose between supporting the Boy Who Lived’s last night at the Movie Awards and Katniss Everdeen’s first time in the arena? Too much pressure! Still, as in every competition, there will be winners and losers at this year’s show, with plenty of cause for triumph and heartbreak. And while we’re still hours away from knowing exactly who those victors are, we’ve got some sneaking suspicions about who will wind up owning the night. Keep reading for our predictions: “The Hunger Games” Before Iron Man and the rest of “The Avengers” sucked all the air out of the box office, 2012’s biggest commercial titan was the Girl on Fire. Tonight at the Movie Awards, Katniss doesn’t have to worry about Earth’s mightiest heroes — only Captain America and Thor are nominated for Best Hero , and it will take a miracle to boost them to the top — and can instead focus on main rivals “Bridesmaids” and “Harry Potter.” Fans have rallied behind “Hunger Games” in a massive way over the past year, and with a leading nine nominations to its name, the odds are most certainly in this movie’s favor for ruling the show tonight. “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2” This is Harry’s final time to shine at the Movie Awards. As the fourth highest-grossing picture of all time, it’s safe to say that there are more than a few fans hoping for some good old-fashioned “Deathly Hallows” domination. Best Cast should be a lock for “Potter,” if only to acknowledge the phenomenal work of scenery-chewers Alan Rickman and Ralph Fiennes. It’s neck-and-neck between Potter and Katniss for Best Hero, but we’re placing our money on the Boy Wizard. And a Movie of the Year win is not out of the question, either. It has a huge obstacle to overcome in the increasingly hot “Hunger Games,” but as Lord Voldemort learned the hard way, you can never put Potter down for the count. “The Dark Knight Rises” Fans No matter who you’re rooting for at the Movie Awards, it’s the fans who will walk away the winners — Batman fans in particular. Christopher Nolan, Christian Bale, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Gary Oldman will all be on hand to present exclusive “Dark Knight Rises” footage at the show, in case you haven’t heard. Though we’re still in the dark regarding what exactly we’ll see, Movie Awards director Hamish Hamilton has seen the top-secret footage, and he’s “telling you, it’s good.” Expect this footage to be the talk of the town (or at least the Twitterverse) long after the show ends. Shirtless-Men Enthusiasts Another someone with an outside shot at dominating the Movie Awards conversation tonight is Channing Tatum, who finds himself nominated for multiple awards, including Best Kiss and Best Hero. Don’t count on him winning either of those awards — the former is all “Twilight,” and the latter is a battle of the bows and wands — but who needs a Golden Popcorn statuette when you have abs to put Taylor Lautner to shame? There’s growing buzz that Tatum is going to bring some of his “Magic Mike” shirtless magic to Movie Awards viewers tonight, so if you’re a fan of hot men sans clothes, you might be this year’s biggest winner. Russell Brand Finally, hats off to the man who’s going to keep the trains powered by farts tonight: Russell Brand, host of the 2012 MTV Movie Awards. Mark Wahlberg’s threats aside, we’re very confident Brand is going to absolutely tear it up at the show this year, if his past performances as host of the VMAs are any indication. 2011 Movie Awards: Rob Smooches Taylor And More!

We look back at last year’s biggest moments before the MTV Movie Awards go live tonight at 9 p.m. ET/PT. By Kara Warner Robert Pattinson kisses Taylor Lautner at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage UNIVERSAL CITY, California — All week long, we’ve been getting you pumped up for the 2012 MTV Movie Awards with performer interviews, behind-the-scenes reveals and much more. We are soclose to show time, you can almost hear the squeals coming from inside the Gibson Amphitheatre. While we await the start of our “Punk’d Movie Awards Pre-Party” at 8 p.m. tonight and the snazzy red-carpet arrivals, let’s take a moment to walk down the memory lane of last year’s action-packed extravaganza: A Host With the Most “Saturday Night Live” funnyman Jason Sudeikis proved to be as adept in awards-show hosting as he is with being a chameleon-esque comic with his various characters on “SNL.” Sudeikis kept his jokes light and fun, with a couple of well-placed jabs at 2011 newsmaker Arnold Schwarzenegger and the “Twilight” cast. Unsolicited Smooches and Groping 1. Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart have dominated the Best Kiss category for the past three years and delivered their best acceptance speech yet last year when Pattinson decided not to kiss Stewart and instead went running into the audience to plant a wet one on his co-star Taylor Lautner. 2. When “Friends with Benefits” co-stars Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake walked out to present the award for Best Male Performance, no one guessed that their presentation would include a mutual groping of Kunis’ boobs and Timberlake’s nether regions for everyone to see, but they did, and that moment lives on in infamy. The “Deathly Hallows, Part 2” Clip The most magical moment of last year’s broadcast was an exclusive and highly anticipated preview of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2.” Potter fans were treated to an emotionally charged sneak peek at the final film in the blockbuster franchise with the debut of an explosive new clip. Jim Carrey We can always count on Jim Carrey to deliver a memorable moment when he attends the Movie Awards. There’s his unforgettable appearance in 1999 when he had everyone fooled with a clever disguise, and last year, Carrey brought down the house with a perfect blend of innovation and comedy via his green suit that featured a series of random and inappropriate images on it while Carrey introduced the Foo Fighters. The Foo Fighters The performance slot at the MTV Movie Awards is one of the most coveted and sought-after for artists new and old. For last year’s marquee act, we enlisted one of the biggest acts in the business and a band with a storied history with MTV: the Foo Fighters, who rocked the house with their rousing live rendition of “Walk.” Head over to MovieAwards.MTV.com to cast your vote for Best Hero and Best Movie now! WATCH: Russell Brand Better Keep Mark Wahlberg Out Of Movie Awards Monologue

‘I hope he doesn’t say nothin’ smart about me, because he’s going to ‘unpredictably’ get his ass whooped,’ ‘Fighter’ star jokes to MTV News. By Ryan J. Downey, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Mark Wahlberg Photo: MTV News UNIVERSAL CITY, California — Mark Wahlberg has a message for the 2012 MTV Movie Awards host: Crack the wrong jokes, Russell Brand , and you’d better duck. Speaking to MTV News backstage at the taping of the Spike TV’s “Guys Choice Awards” on Saturday night, the man whose real-life boxing skills were on display in “The Fighter” acknowledged that the English comedian has a reputation for being unpredictable. “I hope he does a good job,” Wahlberg cautioned. “I hope he doesn’t say nothin’ smart about me, because he’s going to ‘unpredictably’ get his ass whooped.” Wahlberg wore a sly grin as he delivered his beat-down promise, detailing further what might happen should Brand say something too biting from the Gibson Amphitheatre stage tonight (June 3): “I would put the worst insult of all time on him, for sure. And it’s an easy thing to do, given his look.” The tongue-in-cheek rant was delivered to MTV News’ own Josh Horowitz, who has been comically menaced by Wahlberg on several occasions. The pair have continued their playful banter on red carpets and at events ever since that infamous episode of “The Knife Show,” which went viral. The 40-year-old actor/producer will be one of the presenters at the Movie Awards Sunday night, which will put him in close proximity to his possible target. “No, no, he’s a funny guy,” Wahlberg said, letting up for a second. Then the taunts resumed: “But, you know, listen: f— around, lay around — you know me.” An obscenities-laden rant that bobbed and weaved in and out of an English accent followed. “Listen, I love ya, baby, but this ain’t the mother—— to be f—ing with. This ain’t the U.K., baby. This is where you get the ole’ smack,” he said. After the last two Golden Globes awards shows, at least one other British comedian developed a certain reputation for “roast”-style performances while hosting. “I hope [Brand] is a proper U.K. comic like Ricky Gervais and Steve Coogan,” Wahlberg said, still mining his convincing British accent. Wahlberg, of course, was playing all of it for laughs, frequently cracking a smile, but he did issue a further warning to Brand: stay away from the cast of his upcoming movie, “Ted.” Mila Kunis, Seth McFarlane, and for some reason, the star of “Mad Men” (who isn’t in “Ted”) are off limits. “Listen, I’m telling you, if he f—s with me, I’m the wrong dude to f— with. And don’t f— with my people, either! Don’t say sh– about Mila, don’t say sh– about Seth. And don’t say sh– about Jon Hamm. I don’t know him, but, I’m putting him under my wing.” Head over to MovieAwards.MTV.com to cast your vote for Best Hero and Best Movie now!
