It’s probably one of the best ways to work through your failed celebrity marriage: Air all your dirty laundry in a thinly veiled dance-pop ditty from your hawt new album! Which is what Madonna seemingly does in her new song, “I Don’t Give A,” which Guy Ritchie is listening to somewhere, shaking his head. Sample lyrics: “You were so mad at me / Who’s got custody / Lawyers / Suck it up / Didn’t have a prenup.” OUCH. Let the divorce therapy rip! More lyrics: “Wake up ex wife / This is your life / Children / On your own / Turning on the telephone” “Messages / managers / no time for a manicure / work it out / shake my ass / I know how to multi-task” “I tried to be a good girl / I tried to be your wife / Diminished myself / and I swallowed my light” Eh, I give Madge points for getting Nicki Minaj on her track, even if her best lines are about rejecting shoes from Aldo and co-opting Jay-Z’s “business, man” bit. The song itself is a little to Desperate Ex-Housewives for my tastes. Whatever happened to singing about lucky stars and sex and Black Jesus and stuff? Prenups? Custody? Yawn. [ Huffington Post ]
The BBC’s biopic The Girl aims to explore Alfred Hitchcock ‘s fascination with actress Tippi Hedren, and from the first image of Toby Jones as Hitch and Sienna Miller as his The Birds and Marnie muse this promises to be an intriguing watch. But mimicry/homage aside — as evidenced by the near-perfect recreation of Hitch & Hedren’s famous Birds promo photo — will The Gir l get everything right about their relationship? Like the fact that, as Hedren has been saying for years now, Hitch stalled her career because she turned him down? Hedren is a consultant on The Girl , one of two Hitchcock-centered features in the works (the other: Alfred Hitchcock And The Making Of Psycho , with Anthony Hopkins and Scarlett Johansson), which is directed by Julian Jarrold ( Kinky Boots , Red Riding 1974 ). Still, the Daily Mail reports , Hedren is worried the film won’t depict the extremes to which she had to be strong in the face of Hitchcock’s dominance and sexual advances. “I admired Hitch tremendously for his great talent and still do,” she said. “Yet, at the same time, I loathed him for his off-set behavior and the way he came on to me sexually…He was a great director – and he destroyed it all by his behavior when he got me alone.” “There were so many wonderful films we could have made together but it was all thrown away because of his mindless lust…I was a highly moral girl. I couldn’t submit to him no matter that he threatened and did ruin my career.” Exactly how deep into the Hitch-Hedren symbiotic relationship The Girl will go remains to be seen, but it would appear Jarrold’s paying painstaking attention to detail to some degree; compare the above first image from The Girl with the vintage Birds promo shot it mimics, from the wrinkle in Hitch’s brow to Hedren’s perfect blonde ‘do. What’s different, beside the angle of the prop bird at their feet and the color of Hedren’s pumps? Jones’ and Miller’s expressions are decidedly not as forcedly sunny as those of their counterparts, and she sits angled away from the director, all of which suggests there’s more stormy unrest behind the scenes between the two than seen in the original picture. I don’t think there’s a bit part slash background actress out there who gets as much attention as this Katrina Bowden hottie. I mean she’s only on 30 rock an average of something like ten seconds an episode and yet I post her on the site every chance I get. I bet she lives in the penthouse of her Hollywood aspiring actor apartment complex. Here she is looking as hot as ever on the red carpet for that American Reunion garbage. I’m pretty sure a torrid affair with a certain celebrity blogger would do wonders for her career.
‘It’s like the reincarnation and the birth of me becoming who I really am,’ MC tells MTV News at South by Southwest. By Rob Markman, with additional reporting by James Montgomery Snoop Dogg Photo: MTV News Maybe murder isn’t the case after all? Eleven solo albums into his career, Snoop Dogg insists that fans have yet to see the real him, but on his next album, he hopes to change all of that. “It’s a project where it’s more about the element of surprise, but at the same time it’ll be talked about in due time,” Snoop told MTV News this weekend at the South by Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas. “It’s special; it’s a real special project to me because it’s like the reincarnation and the birth of me becoming who I really am.” On his 1993 multiplatinum debut album Doggystyle, the Long Beach, California, MC became the poster child for gangsta rap, while simultaneously fighting a real-life murder case, which helped add to his mystique. Through the years, Snoop began to slowly back away from that hardened street image and began landing notable endorsements and movie roles. His 2007 reality show “Snoop Dogg’s Father Hood” painted the picture of Snoop the family man. And with his next LP, the Doggfather plans to evolve even more. “I never really knew who I was through the music,” Snoop admitted. “I was always a very peaceful, kind, loving, caring individual and making music to symbolize that sometimes never was my key.” The global rap star doesn’t elaborate on exactly how the music will change, but it’s clear he has an eye toward the future, hoping to ensure some more longevity for himself. “This record, and this project will symbolize that and gives me the opportunity to step into the world of the stadium and then do those kind of songs that last 40, 50 years to go along with what I’ve already done,” he said. Are you looking forward to hearing a more loving and caring Snopp Dogg? Tell us in the comments. Related Videos South by Southwest 2012 Related Artists Snoop Dogg

Our columnist defends Tim Burton’s comedic re-imagining of the vampire soap. By John Mitchell Johnny Depp in “Dark Shadows” Photo: Warner Bros The first trailer for Tim Burton’s big-screen adaptation of the late-’60s/ early-’70s vampire soap opera “Dark Shadows” dropped Thursday, and it has sharply divided fans. In one corner are “Shadows” purists, who seem none too pleased with the director’s decision to re-imagine the campy but deadly serious soap as a gonzo comedy. In the other corner are more casual fans and Burton enthusiasts, who are seeing shades of “Beetlejuice” and “Edward Scissorhands” and loving it. I’m on the record as falling in the latter category. I grew up on reruns of the original soap (yeah, I was a weird kid) and also loved NBC’s short-lived prime-time reboot in the early ’90s. If the original series was a true-to-genre soap opera (just, you know, with a heavier lean on the supernatural), the ’90s take was “Melrose Place”-meets-“Twin Peaks” but with fangs. The problem is, a straight take on the original (which is where Burton’s loyalties lie — he’s never given any indication he cares about the TV reboot) wouldn’t fly with today’s sophisticated film audience, and playing to the ’90s retread would have resulted in a film that would have a lot in common with Neil Jordan’s “Interview With the Vampire.” And while that’s certainly not a bad thing — “Interview” is a killer vampire flick — it has nothing to do with Tim Burton. For its ’90s return, “Shadows” turned up the sex factor; it was a sudsy drama with a chest-baring Ben Cross as Barnabas, Angelique busting out of her corset and a plot that focused heavily on Barnabas’ attempts to cure his vampirism so he could bring the sexytimes with Victoria Winters, whom he suspected may have been the reincarnation of Josette DuPres, the love of his mortal life back in the late 18th century. That’s all well and good, and a big-screen treatment of that might have even played well. But that was never going to happen with Burton at the helm; it’s not his game. The dark and spooky aesthetic he created for films like “Sleepy Hollow” and “Sweeney Todd” had the look fans of the series were after, and I think that — mixed with Burton’s fanboy enthusiasm for the project — is why purists were so psyched that he was directing. But Burton doesn’t really do romance, particularly not lusty, forbidden love stories. ‘Dark Shadows’ Trailer: Love It Or Hate It? (Poll) There are several directors who do, and who do it well, including “Shadows” star Michelle Pfeiffer’s frequent collaborator Stephen Frears (“Dangerous Liaisons,” “Cheri,” “Mary Reilly”) and “Interview” director Jordan (“The End of the Affair,” “The Crying Game”). Joe Wright (“Atonement,” “Pride and Prejudice,” the upcoming “Anna Karenina”) has practically built his career on the stuff. But I suspect they wouldn’t have been able to grasp the weirdo wonderment that makes “Shadows” so special to fans. It’s based on a soap, after all, and is so over-the-top that to direct it as a straight romantic vampire drama might have meant significant alterations to the story to “normalize” it. It would have had to be boiled down to the basics. That still might have made for a good film, but (real talk) it also might have meant that something really dynamic would be translated into a highbrow, slightly more horror-leaning version of “Twilight.” And, um, no one wants that. On the flip side, if Burton had kept the deliberately exaggerated and theatrical style of the original without acknowledging the comedy inherent in going so over-the-top (this is the literal definition of “camp”), it would have been unwatchably ridiculous. Soaps are absurd but play their ridiculousness with the utmost seriousness. It’s something we all know and accept about them, but it’s not something that would work, not even for a second, on the big screen — particularly in a big-budget film starring two three-time Oscar nominees (Johnny Depp and Pfeiffer), the twice-nominated Helena Bonham Carter and “Little Children” nominee Jackie Earle Haley. The only thing left for Burton to do was turn the volume up even higher and trust his talented actors to work their magic with what better be a damn clever script. It’s hard to embrace absurdity without it coming across as farce, but you know who is a master of doing exactly that? Tim Burton. He did it in “Beetlejuice” and “Edward Scissorhands.” He even brought some genuine emotion to it with the more delicate “Ed Wood.” It’s been a while since Burton worked this particular magic, but after seeing the “Shadows” trailer I’m feeling like he may have done it again.
