Drake Premieres First Single ‘Over’

The first official track from Thank Me Later debuts on Toronto radio. By Shaheem Reid Drake Photo: Paola Kudacki/GQ After a nearly yearlong wait for his fans, Drake’s debut single off of his debut album Thank Me Later is here. The song, “Over,” deals with Drake coming to grips with fame. And just like Drizzy chose to stay with his home team, Young Money, when signing his record deal, he also chose to debut his first official record in his hometown, on Toronto radio station 93.5 the Flow. The song is also available for download on Drake’s Web site . “Bottles on me, long as someone drink it,” the 23-year-old raps in a slow, aggressive flow. “Never drop the ball, f— is y’all thinking?/ Making sure the Young Money ship is never sinking/ ‘Bout to set it off in this b—-, Jada Pinkett/ You too fine to be laying down in bed alone/ I can teach you how to speak my language, Rosetta Stone.” The track was produced by Boi-1da and has an energetic feel. ” ‘Bout to go Thriller, Mike Jackson on these n—-s,” Drake later raps. “All I need is a f—— red jacket with some zippers.” Even with anticipation for the record through the roof, Drake said he’s keeping everything in perspective. “This is my first song,” he told radio-show hosts Jus Red and Jwyze. “This is still my first single of my first album. This is still the beginning, as great as everything has gone.” “I know way too many people here right now that I didn’t know last year,” Drake sings on the hook. “Who the f— are y’all?/ I swear it feels like the last few nights we been everywhere and back/ But I just can’t remember it all/ What am I doing? What am I doing?/ Oh yeah, that’s right/ I’m doing me, I’m doing me/ I’m living life right now, man, and this what I’mma do till it’s over/ Till it’s over/ But it’s far from over.” “I went with ‘Over’ as the first look because of the words in the hook,” he said. “The hook being the most repetitive part. I got a lot of great songs on my album. I got songs for women who wanna feel special. I got songs for dudes — if you ever thought my music was too soft, this is one you will enjoy. I got a lot of variety on there, but the biggest thing was that opening line on the hook: ‘I know way too many people here right now that I didn’t know last year.’ “I’ve just gone so many places in a short amount of time,” he added. “This record sums up where I am right now in my career. I think it’s a great first impression. The album is gong to be a great body of work for you to get lost in. Right now I just wanna have some fun. When we’re out partying, I want people to have some fun too, because this is the one.” The video for “Over” is scheduled to be filmed soon in Los Angeles. Related Artists Drake

Betty White Responds To Robert Pattinson’s ‘Sexy’ Comments About Her

‘Now that is a comedy line,’ White says about Pattinson’s comments about her on ‘The View.’ By Jocelyn Vena Robert Pattinson Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Robert Pattinson might be the world’s most desirable man these days. So when he was asked about his feelings on cougars, and more specifically Betty White, on “The View” this week while promoting his flick “Remember Me” with Emilie de Ravin, it was his very unexpected response to older women and White that has the comedy vet herself laughing. “I think Betty White is probably one of the sexiest women in America,” Pattinson said on the talk show Tuesday. “She’s vibrant; it’s sexy. I think the more age, the better.” And while Pattinson may or may not have been joking, White certainly thought the 23-year-old “Twilight” star’s response was actually pretty funny. “Now that is a comedy line!” the 88-year-old “Golden Girls” star said in response to Pattinson’s kind words in a statement to Access Hollywood . White has found herself at the forefront of pop culture most recently for her very funny Snickers ad that aired during the Superbowl. It was her cameo in it as a football player, as well as her career as a funnywoman on shows like “Golden Girls” and flicks like “The Proposal” that has led many fans to start a campaign to get her on “Saturday Night Live” as the show’s host for an episode. “All this came out of left field — all of a sudden, all this stuff has come in,” she said about the attention. “I don’t know any more than I did in the beginning, I’m just watching in awe.” Related Photos The Evolution Of: Robert Pattinson

Kanye West Posts Long Blog On Creativity, Alexander McQueen And More

‘For me the hardest thing is to ‘just’ agree and that is what sparks creativity,’ West writes. By Jem Aswad Kanye West Photo: Stefania D’Alessandro/ Getty Images Kanye West relaunched his Web site last week, and while the first day only featured his “Coldest Winter” video and an arty photo of his girlfriend Amber Rose, it’s filled out recently and on Tuesday (March 2), he posted one of his long all-caps blog entries, rendered even more difficult to read (and cut-and-paste) by his new site’s format. Titled “Creativity,” the post finds Kanye musing on his own past, deaths in his family, the recent death of designer Alexander McQueen (of whom West was a big fan) and much more. “I’m on the plane listening to [his 2004 debut LP] to The College Dropout, ” the post reads in part. “It brings back so many memories.” He then talks about the deaths in his family since that time, and the early days of his career. “We were the underdogs,” he continues. “I never feel like I’m not the underdog. I never felt completely comfortable. I’m tormented by the need to create. With the loss of McQueen I feel like we lost one of the faces of modern creativity’s Mount Rushmore. … Maybe McQueen felt his job was done because his last collection was the greatest of the decade. We are all so hurt. I know we’re selfish because he brought us so much joy and inspiration. I know how it feels when the night demons come. We can’t let them control our hands and feet. … I was blessed with the opportunity to bring my and others dreams to life. It’s like performing magic or something. It’s surreal. We bring the unrealistic to reality. … When I wake up in the morning and brush my teeth and look in the mirror it’s like I see Michael [Jackson, presumably] and my mom and Malcolm [X, presumably] … Who’s that African in the background Mom? Oh, he created the original layouts for the pyramids, but he was written out of the history books and his MTV award was given to ‘Aliens.’ … Everything is an opinion. The way you dress is an expression of your opinion. Your religious beliefs are your opinion. The music you turn up loud is your opinion. For most people it’s easier to just agree. For me the hardest thing is to ‘just’ agree and that is what sparks creativity. The feeling that something can be better, the feeling that something’s missing, the feeling that something’s needed.” What do you think of Kanye’s post and his new Web site? Anne Hathaway Was Destined To Be A Waitress

Hollywood “It” girl Anne Hathaway once thought that she was headed for a life debt and waiting on tables. Instead, the 27-year-old, who plays the White Queen in Alice In Wonderland , has rocketed to fame and fortune by a break-out acting performance in a movie with Meryl Streep . “I thought I was going to be waitressing and have tons of student loans. I’m thrilled. Right now, I just feel like I’m in a glorified acting program. I get to learn drama from Meryl Streep, then I get to run around and learn comedy from Steve Carell . It’s kind of insane.” Not a bad resume and her career is just beginning.

Lindsay Lohan Kissing Men of the Day

I know Lohan isn’t from New Jersey, but she is from Long Island and I can only assume that Long Island is like Jersey, only there’s more new money in the shit, but it’s equally as trashy, or maybe Lohan’s just jealous that Snooki is getting all the attention and decided that it’d make sense to swagger jack her. You know the dyed black hair, the tits busting out of the shit, the making out with random old men who give her attention because they are huge fashion designers and convincing herself she’s friends with him by hanging with him, and making it look like they are best buddies by raping his face, making her feel better about the direction her career has taken, you know, like she’s still relevant….and as long as I am alive, she is still relevant, she is everything I like about the American Dream….the only thing I hate about her is that she’s not raping my face… Pics via PacificCoastNews

Some Career Advice for the Millennials [Millennials]

“It took me a year and a half to realize that I’m not just going to stumble into a great job,” the Brown ’07 grad told Newsweek . Did Career Services forget to tell you about the paradigm shift? Well, let me clarify—it’s like half paradigm shift and half millennial Ivy League naivete. Adrian Muniz, who is 25 years old, has spent the last three years working in “high-end retail stores” and doing internships; the article doesn’t say whether he’s managed to find a job yet. But considering he graduated when things weren’t yet terrible , and they are now, for college graduates wanting to get into traditional media, absolutely horrible , I would guess that he does not yet have a job. Usually when stories like this run, people like me who are older than 25 get to feel all smarmy, like didn’t this kid know what was happening, why did he think that just because he went to Brown that he was going to get a job right away, he’s got to learn sometime that life is hard, doesn’t he realize that it was never easy to get a paying job in media in New York, maybe he should have gone somewhere that gives out grades, etc. And it’s true, I am feeling all of those things! But I am also feeling like this paradigm shift of which I speak is real, and it means that whereas before it was difficult but not impossible to get an editorial assistant job at a fancy publication where they still have expense accounts and such, it is now difficult if not impossible, and in fact, probably increasingly undesirable. It means that this Muniz fellow should forget about the “media internships” and “high-end retail” jobs and do something else, where he will actually make some money and gain some life experience, and that does not include starting a Tumblr. Get out of New York, do something that no one else has done, and then we can talk. In fact, that is going to be my advice from now on for everyone in college who emails me about internships and jobs and advice: Don’t come to New York until you’re at least 26.

Brittany Murphy Autopsy Reveals No Signs Of Alcohol Or Drug Abuse

By Actress died from a combination of prescription drugs. Brittany Murphy Photo: Michael Bezjian/ WireImage Brittany Murphy died from a combination of pneumonia, anemia and prescription medication, according to the Los Angeles Coroner’s report released Thursday (February 25). The report’s findings should dispel gossip that the “8 Mile” and “Clueless” actress abused alcohol and illegal drugs or was dangerously underweight. The pattern of the elevated levels of drugs in her blood “suggest treatment of symptoms of a cold or other respiratory infection,” the report reads. “There is no history of alcohol or drug abuse” and “the body appears well developed, normally muscular and slim but not excessively thin.” The 84-page report said that hydrocodone and acetaminophen — both components of Vicodin — were present in her bloodstream, as well as chemicals that are active ingredients in drugstore medicine and some inhalers. Murphy top-lined star vehicles like “Uptown Girls” and “Little Black Book,” appeared in the comic book flick “Sin City” and voiced a main character on Fox’s long-running “King of the Hill.” She was found unresponsive in her Hollywood Hills home Deccember 20. She was 32. Both her husband and mother attempted to revive her. She was pronounced dead at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. The coroner ruled her death accidental but preventable. Murphy had several projects in the works at the time of her death. “Something Wicked” and “Abandoned,” co-starring Dean Cain, had both finished shooting. Audrina Patridge, Ryan Cabrera Film The Hills

Audrina Patridge and Ryan Cabrera are not only an item, they’re co-workers. Well, kind of. For her, “work” is being on MTV’s non-reality show The Hills. It looks like Cabrera has agreed to come on board the long-running program, filming scenes last Friday evening at Hollywood club La Vida with Audrina. The two were being filmed “for about an hour at a secluded table on the patio,” according to witnesses. Wonder what the cue cards had ’em talk about. A rep for Ryan Cabrera confirmed that he’ll appear on the show, but hasn’t yet signed a deal. Looks as though his career is “On the Way Down.” Sorry, had to. Audrina Patridge and Ryan Cabrera do make a cute couple, we gotta say. Nice to see them yogether on The Hills and in real life! [Photo: PacificCoastNewsOnline.com] Having dated years ago, the singer and reality star rekindled their romance in January. The two were seen holding hands in Mexico earlier this month. “Ryan is a great guy,” a pal tells Us . “Audrina is having fun! It’s easy to see why. He seems chill, and Patridge’s most famous Hills romance was with that douche Justin-Bobby . From there, one can only improve. Other men in her life haven’t been that much better. Corey Bohan fizzled out, and Zachary Loring , well … he’s certifiably insane and stalks her a lot.

Jennifer Lopez Parts Ways With Sony Records

With the release of her new album up in the air, the singer/actress is set to host ‘Saturday Night Live’ this weekend. By Gil Kaufman Jennifer Lopez Photo: MTV News Jennifer Lopez is scheduled to be the host and musical guest on “Saturday Night Live” this weekend, but unlike most host/guests, at the moment Jenny from the Block doesn’t seem to have much to promote during her appearance. That’s because, according to Entertainment Weekly , the singer has split with longtime record label Sony Music’s Epic Records, which was slated to release her delayed seventh album, Love? , in April. After taking time off to become a mother of twins with husband Marc Anthony, Lopez was working on her comeback album, releasing the shoe fetish song “Louboutins” last year. She famously wiped out while lip-synching that tune at November’s American Music Awards , but when the song fizzled on the charts, failing to crack the top 10 on the singles tally, the heat on the project apparently cooled off. “Jennifer had a wonderful relationship with the Sony Music Group, and they have shared many successes together, but the time was right to make a change that best serves the direction of her career as an actress and recording artist. She is grateful and appreciative to everyone at Sony for all that they accomplished together,” the singer’s manager, Benny Medina, said in a statement Monday. Her rep told EW that Lopez is already negotiating with another record label. A Sony spokesperson could not be reached for comment at press time. The story broke on Monday on the Deadline Hollywood blog, where it was reported that Lopez’s contract had ended and that she’d fulfilled it with “Louboutins” and another recent single, “Fresh Out the Oven,” which leaked online in October. The report also stated that it’s unclear if Lopez was finished with the album, which reportedly features the Neptunes, Danja, Jim Jonsin and Rodney Jerkins. Unnamed Lopez “insiders” said the album was “by no means done” and that she had only finished a few songs for it. Lopez is slated to return to the big screen in late April in the romantic comedy “The Back-Up Plan.” Related Artists Jennifer Lopez
