MRC’s Bozell Addresses Anti-Tax Cut Bias, ‘Islamophobia’ on ‘Hannity,’ Anti-Tea Party Bias on ‘Fox & Friends’

Closing out the “Media Mash” segment on the September 16 edition of his eponymous “Hannity” program, the Fox News host asked for NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell’s reaction to NBC’s Meredith Vieira telling House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) that the Bush tax cuts “didn’t succeed” and asking him “what’s so good about them?”: Memo to Meredith [Vieira]: You can have a debate about what future tax cuts might or might not result in but a record is a record. Under George Bush, 8 million jobs were created with his tax cuts. With Ronald Reagan’s tax cuts there were 20 million jobs created. We’ve done nothing but lose jobs with Barack Obama with the stimulus package. Truth is truth, facts are facts. Don’t go on television saying it didn’t work. It did work! The economy-boosting, jobs-creating benefits of across-the-board tax cuts are not all the media are not telling the truth about. The Media Research Center founder and president also addressed how the media, particularly ABC’s Christiane Amanpour are smearing everyday Americans as “Islamophobic” [Listen to MP3 audio here or download WMV video here ]: There comes a point where the American people should say to Christiane Amanpour, “Please shut up!” I am sick and tired of this. Just like Arizona, Sean.  If you raise a policy question, you’re a bigot for saying it….We did a study on soundbites I think it was the last month, did you know that 93 percent of the soundbites talk about Islamophobia in the news media. They can’t stop talking about it. And when they talk about a handful of people that that pastor [Terry Jones] caused an international incident. No! He did not cause that incident, they caused the incident with the non-stop coverage.  This morning Bozell appeared via satellite on “Fox & Friends” to discuss the media’s anti-Tea Party bias, particularly their recent obsession with bashing Christine O’Donnell [download MP3 audio of segment here or WMV video here] : What was the great story on Tuesday night. It was not just that Christine O’Donnell won, it was that 60,000 votes were cast when it’s normally 30,000 [and] for a candidate who had no money to campaign on. That was the [real] story, but all you got instead was ad hominem attacks.

Mika Mortified By Criticism of Carter’s Kennedy Bashing

Mika Brzezinski is no poker face, regularly letting her feelings show as she reacts to the stories of the day.  But when it comes to emoting, the Morning Joe co-host outdid herself today, reacting to the criticism the panel leveled at Jimmy Carter for his ungracious bashing of the late Ted Kennedy.   In a 60 Minutes interview with Lesley Stahl, a clip from which Morning Joe aired, an embittered Carter flatly says the failure to get national health care during his administration was Ted Kennedy’s “fault.”  Carter accused Kennedy of “deliberately blocking” Carter’s proposed legislation, in order to deny him a major legislative achievement. Mika, daughter of Carter’s National Security Adviser Zbigniew Brzezinski, has a history of defending Carter on the show.  Check the video as Mika grimaces in discomfort, and interjects various rebuttals, as her fellow panelists unload on the 39th president. At least as newsworthy as Mika’s reaction was this little pearl from the 60 Minutes interview.  At one point, Carter spoke of “Ted Kennedy’s” blocking of Carter’s legislation. Responded Lesley Stahl: “And you blame Teddy?” So sweet that Stahl still feels herself on a first-name basis with Kennedy, no?

TAKE ACTION: Join With 350.org And Ask Obama to "Put Solar On It"

photo via 350.org By now, most people have heard this story. In 1979, President Jimmy Carter installed solar panels on the roof of the White House, but when the Reagan Revolution swept into power a few years later, Reagan famously had the panels taken down. Well, it’s a new day, and it’s high time for those panels to go back up. Solar power in the U.S. is rapidly growing, with 91 MW coming on line la… Read the full story on TreeHugger

Vampire Sex Explained

True Blood star Stephen Moyer recently provided Playboy with a graphic description of fanged fornication. “Unlike werewolves, who are very hot, vampires are steely cold, so sex with the undead isn’t going to get hot and crispy. There’s no heartbeat, no adrenaline rush as you get close to the moment. But in terms of speed and timing, you may be able to have sex that lasts for days. Vampire sex is muscular and physical, so it could be tiring for a human guy to have sex with a female vampire.” We’ll take your word for it. [ Playboy ]

Movieline Has the Final Word on Conangate — and the First Interview with the Author

Back in February, Viking confirmed that Bill Carter, the bestselling author of the Late Shift had flown to Los Angeles to begin research on a new book chronicling the latest late night shakedown at NBC. Proof of the project arrived earlier this week online via cover art for The War For Late Night: When Leno Went Early and Television Went Crazy (pictured right) and a September release date. Anxious to hear more about the surefire bestseller, Movieline phoned Carter earlier this week to discuss the impending release date and whether Jay Leno is really as cold and calculating as Conan fans make him out to be.

NYT’s Cooper: Obama Becomes Jimmy Carter If He Doesn’t Get Control Of Oil Spill

Barack Obama’s presidency goes the way of Jimmy Carter’s if he doesn’t get control of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. So said New York Times White House correspondent Helene Cooper on the most recent installment of “The Chris Matthews Show.” As the opening segment’s discussion concerning the spill moved to a close, the host surprisingly asked his panel if  Obama can continue to “blame the previous administration, the oil patch guys, Bush and Cheney” for the disaster. Readers will likely find the answers quite surprising (video follows with transcript and commentary):  CHRIS MATTHEWS, HOST: Bottom line politically, he can no longer, can he longer blame the previous administration, the oil patch guys, Bush and Cheney, or does he have to move on and take the heat? JOHN HEILEMANN, NEW YORK MAGAZINE: I think he has to move on. He has to move on largely because forgetting about what caused the spill, there’s now a disaster that’s going to play out over months in terms of how do we keep the oil off our shores, how do we get it out of the mashes, keep it off the marshes, how do we limit the impact now. So that is his challenge. And this is not going to be Bush’s or Cheney’s challenge. That’s on his front door. MATTHEWS: Present danger. Let me ask you this, everybody, right around here. We’re going to end with this: will he get on top of this whole oil mess in the Gulf, get on top of it? SAVANNAH GUTHRIE, NBC NEWS: I think they would argue that they are on top of it. I think his… MATTHEWS: What would an objective observer say right now? Are they on top of this? Will they get on top of it? GUTHRIE: Well, I don’t think we can say until the leak is capped. RICK STENGEL, TIME: I think they will use the crisis as an opportunity and he will build it into something that can be a national campaign. MATTHEWS: And he will look better after this is over than he did before? STENGEL: Well, he will look better than he did at the beginning. MATTHEWS: Okay. Helene? HELENE COOPER, NEW YORK TIMES: He has to. If he doesn’t, I think his presidency is, will go the way of Jimmy Carter’s. HEILEMANN: I think, I think, I’m with Helene. I think he has to. And I think if he doesn’t it will really cost him. Are media after more than seven weeks of watching a pathetic response to this disaster finally turning on the President they helped get elected, or is this just a moment of frustration? Stay tuned.

From Shared Sacrifice to Hedonism

After Japan’s 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor, Franklin Roosevelt delivered a national address making eight references to the “sacrifice” that would be needed in the impending war and three mentions of the “self-denial” we would have to endure. – 2010/06/03

Israeli Attack on Gaza Aid Ship- Q&A Robert Scheer- Truthdig

From the Live Chat :What are your thoughts regarding Gaza flotilla and how does mainstream media coverage compare to the truth? Robert Scheer: There’s almost no connection, and that goes back 43 years, when Gaza was occupied. The media has refused to recognize it as what Jimmy Carter called it, an apartheid, and not just Gaza but the entire area

NBC Unveils New Business Plan: Throw Money at The Problem

“We’re going to have to pay” — so said NBC Universal television entertainment chairman Jeff Gaspin to CEO Jeff Zucker upon his arrival to the sinking ship of a network last summer. Gaspin’s prescription for what has ailed NBC since the days of Ben Silverman — as outlined by Bill Carter in today’s New York Times — is simple: Spend money to make money. So how do they plan to do it?
