In Heroic Old Heads News: 80-Year-Old Great-Grandma Bungles Armed Robbery By Flinging Fruit At Thieves!

Get ‘em Otilia! Two gun toting thieves were no match for an 80-year-old Portuguese great grandma , armed only with some mangoes and apples: A gutsy 80-year-old great- grandma has foiled a grocery store robbery – by throwing mangoes and apples at one of the thieves. “She was amazing! If it hadn’t been for her, the guys would probably have gotten away,” said store owner Manual Nogueira, who’s her son-in-law. Pint-size Otilia Martins swung into action after two thugs entered Manual’s Continental Market in New Bedford, Mass., on July 20. One pointed a .38-caliber gun at the clerk and ordered her to open the cash register. “When the clerk screamed, my mother-in-law ran to the front of the store, and saw the guy going through the cash register,” Manual told The ENQUIRER. Without a thought for her own safety, 5-foot-tall Otilia picked up some mangoes and a bag of apples from the counter and hurled them at the robber. “They hit him on the head and chest,” said Manual. “He stopped going through the cash register and ran out from behind the counter.” But Otilia wasn’t done. She grabbed the hooligan as he fled, but he smacked her in the face with his gun, knocking off her glasses and ripping open her forehead. With blood streaming down her face, Otilia chased him and his partner, screaming at them as they ran off. Manual, 52, was outside the store about 100 feet away when he heard her screams and saw the pair running. Figuring he’d been robbed, he gave chase, and caught one of the creeps two blocks away. When cops arrived, they found the other bad guy cowering in a nearby building. Although she suffered a big gash on her forehead, Otilia, a Portuguese immigrant, refused to go to the hospital. “The paramedics thought she needed two or three stitches,” said Manual. “But she said that she’d just put some peroxide on it. She’s one tough lady.” Otilia, a widow with three children, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, explained why she tried to stop the robber even though he had a gun. “I was afraid he was going to hurt the clerk,” she said. “I’m 80. I’ve lived my life. But the clerk has her whole life ahead of her. I wanted to protect her. “I looked in my pocketbook for something to throw at him, but I couldn’t find anything. Then I saw the mangoes and the apples and started throwing them. “I only wished I had something harder to hit him with, like a tire iron. Now that would have really gotten his attention.” Cops identified the pair as Eduardo Torres- Lopez, 22, and Jesse DosSantos, 32. They’re charged with armed robbery, carrying a dangerous weapon and assault and battery on a person over the age of 60. “People are calling my mother-in-law a real hero, and she is,” said Manual. “We’re all very proud of her.” Pure comedy at grandma refusing to go to the hospital — talking about “I’ll just put some peroxide on it.” Source

Busta Rhymes ‘Fortunate’ To Be Part Of Cash Money

‘They know how to let artists be artists,’ Busta tells MTV News. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Matt Elias Busta Rhymes Photo: MTV News Busta Rhymes most certainly respects the Cash Money conglomerate. Some scratched their heads when the Dungeon Dragon announced last month that he had signed with Cash Money Records . Critics couldn’t fathom why the East Coast rap vet would ink with Birdman’s Southern-based, youth-driven label, but for Busta, the deal makes perfect sense. “It’s real fortunate to be able to have a 20-year career run and partner up with the most powerful record company in the business 20 years later,” Busta told MTV News on Tuesday from the set of his Hype Williams-directed “Why Stop Now” video. Bussa Bus began his career in 1991 as a member of the four-man Long Island, New York, group Leaders of the New School but went solo after the crew disbanded in 1993. The gravel-voiced speed rapper has since dropped eight solo albums and given hip-hop a number of memorable party anthems. Not only were “Woo-Hah! Got You All in Check,” “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See” and “Pass the Courvoisier Pt. 2” huge radio hits, each song also had high-priced, creative music videos attached to them. Combining his hitmaking ability and strong visuals has made Busta one of rap’s greatest and most unique artists. The veteran continued to dominate this past year thanks to his scene-stealing verse on Chris Brown’s Grammy-nominated smash “Look at Me Now” and his guest spot on Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV. At this point in his career, he was looking for a home that would continue to fuel his fire. “They understand. They know how to nurture the music, they know how to let artists be artists, they know how to let you reach your fullest capability creatively,” Busta said of Cash Money. Back in 1997, Lil Wayne was an oft-overlooked kid rapper, but he has steadily grown into a bankable soloist and the mega musical star he is now. Busta factored in Weezy’s trajectory when deciding on where he should sign. “Wayne is a perfect example. He reached his apex a little while ago, and he just continues to grow,” Busta said. It isn’t just Tunechi, though. While officially signed to Young Money, Drake, Nicki Minaj, Lil Twist and Tyga all fall under the Cash Money umbrella. With a stable of successful artists, why wouldn’t Busta want to join the YMCMB team? “It feels good to see that,” he said of the label’s success. “It feels good to be a part of that.” What do you think of Busta joining Cash Money? Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV Near-Million Sales ‘Cool’ With Birdman

On Sway’s Shade 45 radio show, Baby shoots down rumors that Cash Money bought up Weezy’s albums to ensure a big debut. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Lil Wayne and Birdman Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV may have fallen just short of the million mark in its first full week of sales, but Birdman feels platinum regardless. The #1 Stunna spoke with MTV News’ Sway Calloway on his Shade 45 “Sway in the Morning” radio show about Weezy’s #1 album and 964,000 copies sold. “People doin’ different numbers,” Birdman said of the initial predictions, which had Wayne selling more than a million. “But this comes from Billboard. To me, that’s a million; 964, we right there, so it’s cool. We’ll just keep grinding, I guess.” Baby also touched on the Internet rumors that he and Cash Money purchased copies of Tha Carter IV to ensure a mega-sales debut. “Nah, man, that really don’t make no sense. Why would we do that?” Birdman asked. “I press and distribute ’em. Ain’t no need for me to buy ’em. That’s hustling backwards; we ain’t in it for that. I ain’t ever been a part of that type of scheme to be buyin’ records. We don’t do that, homey. We be working too hard to be — that don’t go with what we do. We truly what we do. We’re real about what we do, we work hard every day at it, and we work for the people. That’s what we do music for: for people. And we appreciate the love they give us back. But no such thing as me buying no CDs. I wouldn’t even play it like that.” After being pressed by Sway, the Cash Money CEO estimated that the company made about $10 per album sold, but the exact number remains to be seen. Regardless, Birdman insists that the Cash Money/ Young Money camp is back to work and focusing on Drake’s sophomore album, Take Care, which is set to be released October 24. Catch MTV News’ Sway Calloway on “Sway in the Morning,” on SiriusXM Radio’s Shade 45 , Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon ET. Related Artists Birdman Lil Wayne
