You may not think of Alaskan Bush People as the best platform for progressive ideals, but you should remember that the Brown family is made up of real people with a lot more depth than could ever fit into a reality series. The family’s youngest, Rain Brown, uses social media for a lot more than just delivering updates on her mom’s health and speaking about her battle with depression . She also uses it to promote wonderful messages about making the world a better place. And she’s getting some well-deserved praise (and undeserved hate) for it. Before posting her own miniature essay on equality in the captions, Rain posted an existing image that reads: “I am a nasty woman because I believe in love, acceptance, equality, kindness, respect, and the power of my voice.” Though Rain doesn’t say so herself, this quote was inspired by Ashley Judd who, at the Women’s March, recited a poem by 19-year-old Nina Donovan. And, obviously, the “nasty woman” line was inspired by what Trump so infamously said about Hillary Clinton at the debates. Instead of giving background on the quote contained within the image that she posted, Rain wrote in her own words about the importance of equality and what it means to her. “Equality is SO important.” A simple statement on its own, but very true. “No one it’s better no matter their sexuality, skin color, or gender.” Also true. “We are all people, it’s so sad to me that we are living in 2017 and STILL we are not all treated equal, if you’re different, good!” She’s such a sweet person. We have to wonder what brought on this topic, right? She had previously improvised a song in which she joked about being better than the listener, but this was just her hitting back at trolls who fill her Instagram comments. So … what prompted Rain to talk about equality? We’re not sure, exactly. But Rain does talk about how the issue of equality impacts her, personally. “You actually had the power and strength to stand up for something, and something that is NEVER discussed in media is age equality.” To be clear, she’s not equating ageism (which can impact the young and old, if in different ways) with slavery or anti-LGBT bigotry or anything like that. But it’s a topic that, she’s right, doesn’t get talked about enough. “Just because I’m 14 doesn’t make me less of a person then a 60 year old our time spent on this earth or how we spend it shouldn’t change the way people treat you.” Rain Brown may be referring to her recently revealed battle with depression , which she says was dismissed off-handedly because of her youth. (When, in fact, adolescents are more vulnerable to depression than most other groups; with symptoms exacerbated by hormones, a depressed teenager should get the counseling and medication that they need) But Rain is not trying to make the message of equality all about her, of course. She’s just talking about how it relates to her, personally. “For everyone out there that is sad or been bullied or lied to it happens to literally everyone.” Unfortunately, that is true. “So just don’t return the favor, basically what I’m getting to is, all my life I’ve wanted to change something and so many people tell me I can’t, but I already have, even if no one agrees with me I still made them think.” She’s right — don’t get mistreated and then turn around and do it to someone else. And it sounds like people don’t listen to her enough. Perhaps, because she’s the youngest, people can’t help but see her as a baby. But she’s not anymore. “And I’m not about to let anyone make me give up on my dream, my mission is to spread love and light on this dark world, join me be strong and fierce but kind and compassionate to your neighbors, life is all about balance.” So she’s not listening to trolls. Good. Commenters were quick to praise the young Alaskan Bush People star for her stance. “I liked you before this. Now I freaking love you Rainy!!!! Equality, respect, kindness, and acceptance are paramount in this world.” Very well said! “Your response is exactly what I would expect from a young women raised by an amazing mom. Thumbs up! I can only hope my 13 year old daughter learns your family values.” Awww, a shout-out to Ami Brown while praising Rain! Cute. “You are such an outstanding person.” And there were many more positive comments. There were, of course, some negative comments. Even though Rain is 14 and shared a positive message, some people just want to get into arguments. “Equality, acceptance, all good, but Romans chapter 1, God says diffrent.” We’re not going to get into an academic debate about Biblical passages, but … well, we’re pretty sure that Romans is attributed to Paul . (Honestly, that’s beside the point, because adults have no business going into the comments of a 14-year-old’s post and starting theological arguments or arguments of any other kind. She’s a kid; be nice or get out) “There is no such thing as equality. We are all different. Although well meaning ‘equality’ creates division. Males and females have different abilities on average and different races have different attributes. We must accept our differences and move on to be happy.” So that one’s, like, straight-up racist, among other things. (The “different races have different attributes” line is fine if you’re talking about, like, elves or orcs … not real-life people) “My advice is to listen to wise advice. ‘A Nasty woman’, is a nasty term from nasty feminists. I’ve always admired your mom for being a sweet lady, with so much faith, not a nasty woman.” That last hateful comment is best read in Gollum’s voice. We hope that Rain can set aside the hate, though. View Slideshow: Rain Brown: See the Alaskan Bush People Star’s Selfies That Get So Much Hate!
Florida authorities are investigating the possibility of a serial killer in a Tampa, neighborhood after three shooting deaths within the last two weeks prompted the community into high alert. Families make final arrangements after Seminole Heights murders. #SeminoleHeightsKiller https://t.co/gd7GBExswb pic.twitter.com/I70Ruda1s9 — ABC Action News (@abcactionnews) October 23, 2017 According to PEOPLE , the three victims who were either Black or Latino, were fatally shot over the course of 11 days in a Seminole Heights neighborhood. Though the victims had no familiarity with one another, all their deaths occurred within half a mile. Authorities believe one assailant shot all of the victims, but currently have no suspect or motive, USA Today reports. “Through the proximity and the time frame, they are related,” Tampa interim Police Chief Brian Dugan said during a Friday press conference. “There is no doubt in our minds about that.” The first victim, 22-year old Benjamin Mitchell , was struck on October 9 near a bus stop by his home. Police believe Mitchell was alone at the time of the shooting. On October 11 Monica Caridad Hoffa , 32, was shot and killed 10 blocks from Mitchell. Her body was discovered in an empty grassy plot owned by the city of Tampa. The last victim, 20 year-old Anthony Taino Naiboa, was fatally shot on October 19, just 100 yards from Mitchell. According to authorities, Naiboa suffered from autism and mistakenly took the wrong bus home from his job. They killed him just for nothing,” Naiboa’s father Anthony said during a Sunday vigil for his son. “Like he’s not a human, like he’s nothing.” Community members spoke with USA Today to express the constant state of anguish and fear of a killer on the loose. “We don’t open the door or nothing. A lot of people are scared,” Maria Maldonado, who resides near where two of the shootings to place , said to the outlet. “I’m scared for my son, for the neighborhood, she continued. City officials and authorities have put in safety guards until the shooter is found. Police are escorting children to school and have warned community members not to walk alone at night. Several law enforcement groups such as the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are helping with the investigation, USA today reports. “There aren’t a lot of facts, or evidence, yet,” Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn said in an interview with the outlet. “We’re going to find this guy and we’re not leaving this neighborhood till we do.” The recent shooting spree in Florida is eerily similar to a 2016 case in Phoenix, Arizona , where several victims of color were gunned down in a small Maryvale neighborhood. Over the summer, we heard allegations that R. Kelly keeps teen girls captive in a “sex cult” in which he controls every aspect of their lives, from how they eat to how they serve him. While these aren’t the first stomach-churning accusations about R. Kelly that we’d heard, this really shed new light on the sort of monster that he allegedly is. It’s important to recognize that adults can be victims as well. One woman, Kitti Jones, has come forward with accusations of how R. Kelly lured her into a relationship, convinced her to quit her job, and subjected her to a two-year horror show of control and abuse. In 1994, R. Kelly was 27 years old. In 1994, he married Aaliyah, who was only 15 years old at the time. That’s horrifying enough, but when you listen to people talk about their accounts of their experiences with R. Kelly, you start to see a grotesque pattern of not only sexual predation upon minors but of alleged abuse. In the ’90s, R. Kelly settled at least three suits with women who alleged that he’d preyed upon them when they were minors, and at least one of those women alleged that he’d encouraged her to participate in group sex with him and other minor girls. Until this summer,t he most notorious thing about R. Kelly was the video tape that surfaced in 2002 and showed a young girl calling R. Kelly “daddy” before he urinated into her mouth. Though dozens of witnesses identified the girl as having been 14 at the time, jurors somehow acquitted R. Kelly of multiple counts of child pornography … because they “couldn’t” verify her age. So, you know, another great example of the justice system and how it works … well, how it operates . All of that is enough reason for you to want to hide your kids. As it turns out, where R. Kelly is concerned, you might want to hide your wife, too. Because we heard allegations this summer that indicate that R. Kelly is also a danger to adult women. (Honestly, a college classmate of mine shared several years ago that a man hit on her in a bar and she assumed that he was just fishing for free drinks — and later learned that it was R. Kelly. I can’t help thinking that she really dodged a bullet) Back in July, we heard allegations that R. Kelly keeps a number of young women, teenagers included, in a cult-like environment that revolves around them servicing him, sexually. Beyond that, he is said to keep them isolated from their families and the outside world. He allegedly controls what they eat and when they eat it and even when they go to the bathroom. According to these accusations, R. Kelly does all of this slowly, grooming them, and effectively brainwashes them into defending him when anyone expresses concern. Most seriously of all, there were allegations of verbal and physical abuse. R. Kelly denied these accusations , to no one’s surprise. He was similarly dismissive of the infamous underage pee-tape. Even back in July, a sex partner of R. Kelly’s confirmed the allegations contained within the damning expose. And then in August, another alleged sex abuse victim of R. Kelly’s came forward. Well, a Rolling Stone article titled ” Surviving R. Kelly ” details the experiences of one survivor named Kitti Jones. She says that she was a huge fan of R. Kelly growing up — like, a superfan who would get up close to the stage at his concerts. He was her “Brad Pitt,” she says. On the night that she first met him, they exchanged numbers and he told her to call him “daddy,” not “Rob.” This was back in 2011, and the happy beginning to Kitti’s nightmare. They texted back and forth and she would send him risque photos. When they saw each other again, Kitti describes R. Kelly as walking into the hotel room, sitting down, and whipping out his penis. “I was attracted to him and was just like, ‘Well, OK. Fine.’ Maybe he just has weird ways of getting off.” Well … we guess she’s not wrong . The two had oral sex that weekend, Kitti says, with R. Kelly saying things like “I gotta teach you how to be with me” and “I gotta train you.” So … yikes. “He was like a drill sergeant even when he was pleasuring me,” Kitti describes. “He was telling me how to bend my back or move my leg here.” “I’m like, ‘Why is he directing it like this?’ It was very uncomfortable.” But his celebrity status, her attraction to him, his months of having groomed her over the phone, and the way that he made her feel special added up to her not worrying about it too much. At first, she says, she believed their relationship to be monogamous, despite some … warning signs. “He said, ‘I have friends and I have girls I’ve raised.’ I didn’t know what he meant by ‘raised’ at the time. He said, ‘I eventually want you to meet them, but I want to make sure you’re mentally ready for that.'” FYI, folks, everything that Kitti just described R. Kelly as having said is a huge, huge red flag. And then it gets worse. R. Kelly would insist that she not interact with men, even male drivers. Also, he convinced her to quit her job, promising ot pay her double her salary as a DJ. Even before he got her to quit, though, Kitti says that he already had her feeling emotionally tethered to him, and very defensive against any criticism. “Rob kinda makes you feel like you have to defend him. It’s like you and him against the world. If someone brought him up [in conversation], immediately a wall went up.” Once she quit her job and moved to be with him, Kitti says that she surrendered even more control to R. Kelly. He dictated how she could dress when she went out in public and required constant check-ins, even texts like “Daddy, I need to go to the restroom.” The first instance of alleged abuse took place less than a month after Kitti moved in with him, as a result of Kitti challenging him about the pee tape. His response was fury, and she describes him spending a car ride berating her while striking her in the face and kicking her while she apologized. The next day, she says, he took her shopping and neither of them addressed what had happened. She says that she considered leaving him, but that she’d have felt silly after having quit her job to be with him. Unfortunately, as any abuse survivor could tell you, the first incident was not the last. Kitti says that there were 10 instances of R. Kelly inflicting physical abuse upon her during their first year together, and that the abuse happened more frequently the following year. When R. Kelly went on his “Single Ladies” tour, however, he treated her “like a princess,” which dashed many of Kitti’s misgivings. (Remember, it’s classic abuser behavior for them to play games with their victims, rewarding them and even making them second-guess how bad things had really gotten) After the tour, R. Kelly housed Kitti alongside two of his other girlfriends, monitoring their movements with cameras and punishing them by taking away their phones — at one point, taking Kitti’s for two months. Losing your phone sucks, but in their case, this meant that they couldn’t request food. In fact, Kitti says that R. Kelly would also use starvation to punish his “girlfriends.” At one point, she went without food for two and a half days. And though they were living in neighboring rooms, the three women didn’t even know each other’s real names at first, Kitti says. They were also supposed to report on each other if one of them was breaking the rules. “If you disclose your relationship with him [to another woman] — how long you’ve known him or whatever — you can get beat. He doesn’t want in any way for one girl to feel more like, ‘Oh, we’re closer than you guys.’ Even though we knew deep down we’re all living there, we didn’t address it.” In March of 2013, Kitti says, R. Kelly once again escalated their relationship by bringing in another young woman, naked, and having her and Kitti have sex with each other. “He told me, ‘I raised her. I’ve trained this bitch. This is my pet.'” Calling someone your “pet” in roleplay is fine, but this is more severe. And Kitti says that it was the beginning of R. Kelly forcing her into group sex. “You can’t say no because you’re going to get punished. You just become numb to what’s happening. It’s so traumatic the things that he makes you do to other people and to him.” And she says that yes, he still enjoys urinating on women in sexual situations. “He videotapes everything that he does, and sometimes he’ll just make you watch what he’s done to other girls or girls that he had be together.” “He would masturbate to that and then have you give him oral sex while he’s watching what he did with somebody else on his iPad.” After six months of “hell” in which Kitti says that she was being punished every week — either being struck in the face or being starved or having her phone taken — Kitti was able to break free. View Slideshow: 21 Celebrities You Probably Want to Keep Away From Your Children Fabricating a desire to take her son shopping, she went to Dallas with only a pair of suitcases. That was her escape. In November of that year, R. Kelly showed up, ostensibly to return her possessions that she’d had to abandon. Instead, she says, he lured her onto his tour bus and inflicted more physical abuse upon her to punish her for leaving. The two have never seen each other since. Well, that’s all horrifying.
Nothing can compare to the pain of losing a child. Tragically, two Little Women: Dallas cast members can relate to this heartbreak on a personal level, as Caylea suffered a miscarriage when she was six weeks pregnant and Emily lost a baby at just three months old. There are truly no words for these painful experiences. But the two reality stars have come up with a few over the course of Season 2, at one point getting into an argument over Caylea disrespecting the memory of Emily's son. That was how Emily interpreted it, at least, when Caylea compared her miscarriage to the death of Emily's baby boy. The co-stars argued this point rather passionately a few weeks ago, but the disagreement will reach new heights on this week's installment of this popular Lifetime series. Or new lows, depending on how you look at it. After telling Caylea that she spat on the memory of her child, Emily goes right ahead and… spits on Caylea. We mean this literally. She simply spits right in the face of her co-star, much to the shock of the other Little Women, who all stand around silently as these two keep going at it. Caylea refuses to back down. Emily can't believe her friend continues to make this comparison. Does either side give in or apologize in the end? Watch the clip now and then tune in Wednesday at 9/8c on Lifetime to see the episode in full.
Steven Seagal might seem like too much of a caricature to actually exist, but we regret to remind you that he is all too real. The actor, who has openly pondered a political run and shared some of his truly frightening political views, is only the latest to be accused of sexual harassment. But newly revealed audio of Steven Seagal has him ranting angrily about female journalists in what has been characterized as a misogynistic rant. You can listen below for yourself. What's the most recent news that we've heard from this guy? Probably when Steven Seagal slammed the NFL for “disrespecting the flag.” There were a couple of problems with his complaints. One, that's not what the NFL protests are about — they're not sticking up their middle finger at America, they're using the opportunity to protest the killing of unarmed black men by the very police who are supposed to protect them and enforce the law. At this point, we feel like anyone who honestly wants to understand the situation already knows that. Two, if Steven Seagal loves America so much, why does he live in Russia? Russia isn't just another country — it's a hostile foreign power that has actively worked against the United States time after time. And yet Steven Seagal seems to absolutely adore Russia's shameless despot, Vladimir Putin. We don't really need to rehash the election interference that almost no one is denying, right? Or the habit of Vladimir Putin's political enemies have of being poisoned or otherwise dying? (The same happens to journalists investigating Putin and his interests) So Steven Seagal has some pretty controversial opinions, to say the least. That is not, however, the most recent thing that we've heard about Steven Seagal. In the aftermath of the Weinstein sexual harassment scandal , more and more actresses (and actors!) have been coming forward with their #MeToo stories . In many cases, they've revealed instances of sexual harassment and sexual assault. Some women have come forward to add their names to the lists of Harvey Weinstein's accusers. Others have, for a host of reasons, declined to name the men who harassed or assaulted them. Actress Jenny McCarthy, perhaps best known for her ludicrous “medical” beliefs that have mad her name synonymous with the anti-vaxx movement, recently came forward in a podcast. She alleges that Steven Seagal told her to take off her dress during a casting call for one of his films. Just so that you know, folks, that is not appropriate. And Lisa Guerrero, who is now a journalist but was once an actress, told The Hollywood Reporter of her own Steven Seagal encounter . She alleges that in the '90s, Steven Seagal summoned her to his Beverly Hills home for an audition. That's a little weird, so she insisted upon the casting director also being present, so it should be fine, right? Well … Steven Seagal not only seemed surprised to see that casting director with her, but he answered the door in a silk kimono. Now, we're sure that kimonos are very comfy, but if you're not a college student, you should probably put on something other than a robe when people come over. Especially if it's a work thing. Instead, she describes how Steven Seagal sat on a throne-like chair in his robe and watched her audition for 10 minutes. It was fine — he didn't touch her or expose himself. But … what would have happened if she hadn't brought the casting director? While the brief audio clip, which you can listen to below, doesn't provide a whole lot of context, it's pretty damning on its own. You hear Steven Seagal's own voice as he speaks to a male interviewer. “The few times that I had a hard time was usually with women.” That's not a great way to talk about … anything. “When somebody is on tour, a promotional tour, he’s there to talk about his film, not about who he’s f—ing or who he would like to f— or who his wife was with ten years ago.” Those are the explicit versions of normal questions to ask celebrities. “They should go into pornography or something else instead of journalism if they want to hear that s–t. They're a bunch of a—-.” They should “go into pornography” … what?! Does he mean that they should be porn stars or interview porn stars? Both suggestions are absurd. He has some lovely things to say about some unnamed woman. “I won't even dare tell you what I think it is. It was just some dumb b–ch that is a liar and wanted to be sensational.” If someone is saying “some dumb b–ch” and not jokingly referring to themselves or making a totally okay inside joke with a friend … that tells you a lot about their opinions of women. Steven Seagal's decision to style his home and much of his clothing in an Asian manner is fine. He's a little eccentric, sure. But it's fine. As we all learned in 2016, an audio recording of a man with extensive Russian ties saying offensive things about women doesn't necessarily mean that he'll be negatively impacted. Of course … what exactly is Steven Seagal's career these days? So whatever fallout this audio recording might have had during his heyday probably won't amount to anything in 2017. Listen for yourself:
I guess Taylor Swift must’ve been getting jealous of all the attention I’ve been giving Selena Gomez lately, because she just dropped this teaser trailer for her new music video… which apparently is a thing artists do these days? Sorry, I’m getting sidetracked. The point is, Taylor’s in some kind of nude sci-fi bodysuit and it’s hot as hell. So I don’t know about you dudes, but I can’t wait to watch the full thing. I just have to remember to hit the mute button first. Oh. And lock the Starbucks bathroom door. That got me in a lot of trouble after her last video , and I’m already on my second strike.
I don’t know who told Selena Gomez she should try her hand at modeling , but whoever it is, I really need to get them to be my wingman at the bar from now on. Because they’re obviously a pro at talking women into making bad choices. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I like Selena as much as the next red-blooded Internet pervert, and she’s super-hot no matter what, but her model face still needs a little a lot of work. » view all 20 photos
