#BlackBoyJoy: How One Young Man Earned TWO Tuition-Free Master’s Degrees From Columbia University

View this post on Instagram My friends said I should share this article , but yea — debt free! Don’t let anyone tell you can’t or you have to do something the way “they” did it ! A post shared by Maurice “Moe”Wiggins (@profyle_inc) on May 29, 2019 at 1:27pm PDT This Young Man Earned TWO Tuition-Free Master’s Degrees From Columbia Congratulations are in order for one young man who earned not one, but TWO, master’s degrees from Columbia University at NO COST to him . Yep, you read that right. “When Maurice Wiggins moved to New York from Florida, he knew he wanted to get an advanced degree and he knew that he wanted to earn it from Columbia University. But he would have to get in. And he would have to figure out how to pay for it,” the Columbia University Irving Medical Center website states . “As luck would have it, Wiggins was recruited in 2011 for an HR position at Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC). Most regular, full-time salaried University employees who have completed two years of continuous service may take advantage of a benefit that pays full tuition for their undergraduate and graduate courses at Columbia University, Barnard College, and Teachers College . The children of eligible employees also may qualify for a 100% tuition exemption for undergraduate degrees at Columbia and Barnard College.” After working for two years, Wiggins applied to the University’s School of International and Public Affairs, intent on getting his executive master of public administration (EMPA) degree. After earning that one, he went right back to school and got his master of science degree in strategic communications. Some of the projects covered information that I would bring back and implement.” The site states he graduated this month… salute to the Black King.

Rah Ali, Love & Hip Hop Star, Loses Baby After Premature Delivery

Tragedy has struck Rah Ali. The former Love & Hip Hop star reportedly went into labor very prematurely on Sunday, giving birth only five months into her pregnancy. According to sources close to the reality star, courtesy of TMZ, Ali’s baby daughter sadly did not survive the premature delivery. She died mere minutes after entering the world. Ali was in her house Sunday morning when her water broke and contractions started, much to her extreme shock and concern because doctors had not given Rah any indication that anything was amiss. This would have been the first child for Rah and her husband, who she married in the summer of 2017 but whose identity has been kept secret. Ali has over 1.1 million Instagram followers and first rose to stardom as a Love & Hip Hop: New York cast member on Season 3. She was also a guest star on Seasons 4 and 5 How did she land this role? Ali worked in the music industry as an assistant to Phil Robinson and Harve Pierre prior to founding and managing a promotional company called 5 Approved. The 35-year old hails from New York City. Ali has also become well-known for her close friendship with Nicki Minaj. She allegedly tried to fight Cardi B on behalf of her pal during last year’s infamous shoe-throwing incident at a New York Fashion Week party. And she may have succeeded in doing so, according to Minaj herself. “ Rah beat Cardi’s ass really bad ,” Nicki said last October on her Beats 1 radio program, addressing Cardi directly at the time and adding: “The punches were so hard in your head. Rah beat you so bad that I was mad at Rah. She punched [you] eight, nine times. Now you got your sister calling me a crackhead.” Crazy stuff, but this isn’t about that feud or fight, of course. It’s about the awful situation that has befallen Rah Ali. TMZ reports that Minaj is doing all she can to be there for her best friend right now, calling her and checking on her and trying to lift her spirits. Sounds like she’s making a noble effort, but there’s sadly not much that can be done for Ali these days. We send her our most heartfelt condolences.

Source: Jon Bromley / Getty The folks behind the French Open may have banned Serena Williams’ infamous Nike catsuit last year , but the tennis legend is back! And is armed with a new set of tennis garb fit for the empowering champ she is. On May 27, the 23-time Grand Slam champion arrived at her first match of the prestigious tournament rocking a wearing a custom-made design by Off-While’s Virgil Abloh for Nike, The Cut reported . The two-piece outfit, along with its matching cape, has a pretty strong message: “Mother, Champion, Queen, Goddess” written in French. A post shared by Serena Williams (@serenawilliams) on May 26, 2019 at 6:00am PDT After winning in three sets, in a post-match interview, Serena opened up to Associated Press about the meaning of her outfit. “[The words on the jacket] are things that mean a lot to me and reminders for me and for everyone that wants to wear it,” adding, “Just remind everyone that they can be champions and are queens. So I love that about it. It is a lot to carry, but so is being Serena Williams” This is the second time that the 37-year-old has worked with Abloh, who designed her amazing U.S. Open tutu outfit last year . As we previously reported, last year’s catsuit was more than just a fashion statement, it was also a means of preventing blood clots, which Serena has a history of developing. But that still didn’t stop French Tennis Federation president Bernard Giudicellli from updating the dress code to ban catsuits, saying “I think that sometimes we’ve gone too far … One must respect the game and the place.” As if Serena has ever disrespected this game. She is the game. We’re just glad to see her back! Wait…What Year Is It?: Apple Announces New Updated iPod Touch

Read the original here:

Source: Apple / iPod Touch Nope, this isn’t “fake news,” Apple is definitely bringing back the iPod Touch but with some new upgrades. The company that Jobs built announced it will be updating the device which hasn’t seen any improvements since 2015. The new iPod Touch still looks like its predecessor with a 4-inch display, a home button and comes in multiple colors but will be sporting a new A10 Fusion system-on-a-chip under the hood. The updated iPod Touch runs on iOS 12 like the latest iPhone models and will allow owners to launch ARkit apps and even start group FaceTime conversations. Unlike the latest generation of iPhones, the new iPod Touch does not feature Touch ID or Face ID so to unlock the device you will need a passcode. Also, it will feature a headphone jack, something we wished Apple would put back on its iPhones again. This latest move by Apple comes as a surprise, but we can definitely see the potential for Apple to pull in coins. The updated iPod Touch is cheaper than Apple’s latest handsets, $199 will get you a 32GB, $299 128GB device and if you got some extra money laying around for $399 you can purchase a touch with 256GB of storage. It’s gonna take you a while to fill that bad boy up. Now if you’re wondering who would be in the market for an iPod Touch, there are plenty of potential customers.  This device would be perfect for the person who would rather have their music on a separate device, making more room for your photos on your phone. We can also see kids jumping to get the new iPod Touch because of it coming in six new colors space gray, white, gold, blue, pink and (PRODUCT)RED. Also, it works well with wireless speakers and does allow access to streaming platforms such as Apple Music which will help alleviate the strain on your iPhone battery and help you conserve juice. The new iPod Touch is available now via Apple.com, the Apple app, or the company’s flagship locations. This news comes on the heels of Apple “confirming”three new iPhone models . Do you see yourselves buying a new iPod Touch? Or do you feel this is just another money grab by the company? She said her stepfather waited until her mother, Betty DeGeneres was out of town to touch her inappropriately, saying he needed to feel her breasts because he’d found a lump in her mother’s breasts and needed to check hers. This occurred when the Emmy award winner was around 15 to 16 years old. DeGeneres said she’s still angry with herself for not standing up to who she said was a  “very bad man.” She’s telling her story now because it bothers her when women come forward about their sexual assault experiences and are shamed or blamed. She hopes opening up publicly will encourage other women to do the same. Ellen DeGeneres Opens Up About Being Sexually Assaulted By Stepfather

Ellen DeGeneres: My Stepfather Abused Me When I Was a Teenager

Ellen DeGeneres is known for being one of the funniest people in the world. In an interview with David Letterman for Season 2 of that comedian’s Netflix series, however, DeGeneres opens up about something very serious. And also very personal… … she was molested as a teenager by her stepfather. In her upcoming appearance on Letterman‘s My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, DeGeneres says on stage that her mother, Betty, married a “very bad man” when DeGeneres was a young woman. DeGeneres explains in this chat that her mom had recently been diagnosed with breast cancer and had one of her breasts removed when the incident took place. The stepfather then used this situation and this information to set DeGeneres up. In an absolutely horrific way. “He told me when she was out of town that he’d felt a lump in her breast and needed to feel my breasts because he didn’t want to upset her, but he needed to feel mine,” Ellen tells Letterman, adding: “He convinced me that he needs to feel my breasts and then he tries to do it again another time, and then another time.” DeGeneres was 15 or 16 when this happened. “I’m angry at myself because… I was too weak to stand up,” DeGeneres continues in recalling this painful memory. “It’s a really horrible, horrible story and the only reason I’m actually going to go into detail about it is because I want other girls to not ever let someone do that.” DeGeneres eventually goes into even more detail about the alleged incident, recalling how her stepfather attempted to break down her bedroom door and she fled out her window because she knew “it was going to go more to something.” It took Ellen a few years to tell her mom about the assault. Betty didn’t believe her at the time and remained married to the main for 18 more years. After he kept changing his story and Betty finally realized her daughter had been telling the truth… she left him. DeGeneres initially talked about this abuse in an interview with Allure in 2005. She said back then that her former stepfather had died. Betty has appeared on her daughter’s talk show on a number of occasions. As for how her relationship is with her mother is these days? “I always have taken care of her my whole life,” Ellen tells Letterman. “So I just kept taking care of her. I didn’t really let it get to me. Until recently, I kind of went, ‘I wish I would have been better taken care of. I wish she would have believed me.’ And she’s apologetic, but, you know…” DeGeneres went on to say that she hopes her story will inspire other victims of abuse. “We [women] just don’t feel like we’re worthy, or we’re scared to have a voice, and we’re scared to say no,” she says. “That’s the only reason I think it’s important to talk about it because there’s so many young girls and it doesn’t matter how old you are. When I see people speaking out, especially now, it angers me when victims aren’t believed, because we just don’t make stuff up. “And I like men, but there are so many men that get away with so much. “It is just time for us to have a voice. It’s time for us to have power.” Amen.
