Casey Anthony Murder Case: New Evidence Uncovered?

Has there been a discovery of new evidence in the Caylee Anthony murder case? A news station in Orlando, Fla., says it has evidence “missed by prosecutors” that could prove Casey Anthony ’s guilt in the slaying of her two-year-old daughter. WKMG-TV reporter Tony Pipitone says, “We’ve uncovered an astounding failure by investigators that left prosecutors unaware of more than 98 percent of a crucial batch of evidence .” He won’t say what that is or how it would’ve impacted the case. The station’s news director, Steve Hyvonen, added that the alleged find “could have changed the jury’s mind – it’s evidence that points right at Casey.” Again, not a lot to go on as to what that possibly could be. Pipitone said the station let prosecutors know about evidence: “When we revealed it to them last week, they said they would have used some of it to try to prove Casey’s guilt.” The prosecutors would not comment but told Extra that “there is nothing new.” Casey Anthony’s attorney, Jose Baez, said, “It’s old news that was written in my book.” So basically, this may be in the same ballpark as Glen Rogers ‘ O.J. claims. Casey was acquitted of first-degree murder, aggravated manslaughter and aggravated child abuse in the 2008 death of her 2-year-old daughter Caylee Anthony. A Florida jury found her not guilty in July 2011. The court of public opinion? Another story: Is Casey Anthony guilty of murder?   Guilty! Not guilty! Still Unclear! View Poll »

Jury: Casey Anthony Behavior, Partying "Heinous" and "Disgusting" … But Not Evidence

Jurors in the Casey Anthony case were “disgusted” by her behavior, and “sick” over the decision to find her not guilty, but still felt they did the right thing. The foreman said that her shady behavior and evidence of whether or not she murdered Caylee are two different things, and the former didn’t matter. “We were asked … to convict on cause of death,” the foreman, juror No. 11, said on Fox News. “That’s something that, although it is disgusting, it is heinous, we weren’t really able to take into consideration with the verdict.” The jury foreman, who asked that his name not be used due to possible death threats , said the jury deliberated by considering the physical evidence. One Casey Anthony video deemed too inflammatory was not included. Ultimately, despite the duct tape found on Caylee Anthony’s remains, the possible use of chloroform and the strange circumstances, it wasn’t enough. They eventually found Casey Anthony, 25, not guilty of murdering Caylee, but guilty of lying to police four times in the course of their investigation. “We knocked those out right away because the evidence was there,” the jury foreman said, but the murder charge was a different story entirely. An early vote on the murder charge in the jury room was 10-2 to find Casey Anthony not guilty , he said. Less than 11 hours later, it was 12-0. “I think emotion [about Casey’s behavior] could have played into it, just gut response,” the juror said, though he never asked his counterparts. Eventually, the two dissenters came around, he added, as jurors considered what they felt were holes in the prosecution’s evidence. What do you think? Did the jurors get it right?

Casey Anthony Sentenced to Four Years in Prison, May Be a Free Woman Soon

Casey Anthony was found not guilty of murder earlier this week, but was sentenced to a year in prison today for making false statements to investigators. Her lies to police during the investigation of the death of her daughter Caylee came early and often following the toddler’s 2008 disappearance. The Casey Anthony jurors believed that, despite her lies about what happened to Caylee, there wasn’t sufficient evidence that she killed her daughter. However, Anthony was convicted of fours separate counts of lying to authorities – fabrications that sparked a massive manhunt for her missing child. Casey Anthony was also hit with $4,000 in fines. The charges each carried a maximum of a year in prison, and Judge Belvin Perry gave her four years . However, she’s already served most of that. In custody since 2008, Casey may be released from jail in late July or early August based on time served and good behavior while incarcerated. The exact date of her release is still TBD. Anthony’s defense argued that the four misdemeanors occurred during one day of questioning and therefore should be counted as a single crime. To punish her on four counts would violate double jeopardy rules, the defense said, but Perry was unmoved and Casey was jailed – for now. “As a result of those four distinct lies, law enforcement expended time, energy and manpower looking for young Caylee Marie Anthony,” he said. Nevertheless, while she’ll be working on her new advice book from a cell for the time being, it won’t be long until the 25-year-old walks free. [Photo: WENN.com]

Casey Anthony Deemed Competent to Stand Trial

The Casey Anthony trial resumed this morning after a judge ruled that the 25-year-old accused murderer from Orlando is competent to stand trial. The trial was abruptly put on hold over the weekend after the judge said a “legal matter” had come up. That matter was Anthony’s mental state. Defense lawyers filed a motion to determine her competency to proceed, and after three psychologists found her competent , the trial goes on. Casey, who is accused of killing her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee Anthony, in 2008, has pleaded not guilty. She faces the death penalty if convicted. Prosecutors allege Anthony killed her daughter by using chloroform and suffocating her with duct tape, then leaving her lifeless body in the woods. Casey Anthony’s defense hinges on the theory that Caylee accidentally drowned, that Anthony and her father, George, covered up the accident. George’s prior sexual abuse of Casey when she was a child factored into this poor judgment, her lawyers have posited, to much controversy. Caylee’s remains were found in December 2008, almost six months after she was reported missing, in a wooded area not far from her home. On Friday, Casey’s attorneys showed jurors photos of Caylee climbing a ladder into a pool as her grandmother, Cindy Anthony , supported her. Cindy testified that Caylee could’ve climbed into the pool herself , and also said that she, not Casey, searched for several suspicious terms online.

Casey Anthony Truly Angry

“They are saying Caylee drowned in the pool,” Cindy says. “Surprise, surprise,” Casey, 25, responds dismissively. Two jurors in the Orlando courtroom took notes when they heard the exchange. The defense has claimed that Caylee, 2, drowned accidentally on June 16, 2008. In a video of a jailhouse visit played for jurors Friday, Casey Anthony grows noticeably exasperated as her parents press for answers about her missing daughter. Near the beginning of the video, her mother Cindy Anthony sugges
