Lou Pearlman Dies; Backstreet Boys, ‘NSync Creator Was 62

Lou Pearlman, the infamous record producer who created such boy bands as The Backstreet Boys and ‘NSync, died in prison on Thursday, according to a Federal Bureau of Prisons record. He was 62 years old. The cause of death is believed to have been an undisclosed illness. Known in during the heyday of his career “Big Poppa,” Pearlman was one of the world’s most successful music producers in the 1990s. Based in Orlando, he created The Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, LFO and O-Town. In 2000, however, members of The Backstreet Boys filed a lawsuit against their manager, claiming that Pearlman had set up their contract in an unfair manner. Via court documents, the band alleged that they had only received $300,000 …while Pearlman received millions. Soon afterwards, NSYNC also filed a similar lawsuit, as did Aaron Carter (pictured below with Pearlman) in 2002. Still, it wasn’t until 2006 when Pearlman got into real legal trouble. At that time, investigators discovered that he had defrauded investors of over $300 million in a Ponzi scheme. He did so by somehow convincing wealthy investors to put their money into shell corporations that did not exist. Pearlman fled to Indonesia in response to the charges and was captured in 2007. A year later, Pearlman pleaded guilty to charges of money laundering, conspiracy and fraud. He was sentenced to 25 years in federal prison, although a judge ruled that Pearlman could reduce his prison time ; for every million he paid back, the judge would take one month off his sentence. Pearlman never paid a dime. “Word is that #LouPearlman has passed away,” Lance Bass wrote in response to this news, adding: “He might not have been a stand-up businessman, but I wouldn’t be doing what I love today w/out his influence. RIP Lou.” View Slideshow: Celebrities Who Passed Away in 2016: Gone, But Not Forgotten Pearlman was a diabetic who suffered a stroke in 2010. “It was definitely a wake-up call,” he told The Hollywood Reporter at the time, adding that he had since lost 75 pounds by walking around the prison track. It’s unclear whether this disease contributed to his death. View Slideshow: 90s Boy Bands: Where Are They Now?

Tyler Baltierra: In Therapy After Comments About Catelynn Lowell’s Weight

Tyler Baltierra has told fans that he is in therapy after making comments about what his wife , Catelynn Lowell was eating in a preview for the new season of Teen Mom OG. What’s different about Baltierra’s delivery is that we know he doesn’t mean any harm, since his relationship with Lowell is the kind that most people would kill for. It all started in a preview for the August 22nd premiere, when Catelynn said that she might start up Weight Watchers again.   Baltierra was the adorablly clueless husband who thought that straightforward questions wouldn’t translate into a hidden message, and asked if the portion size she was eating adhered to Weight Watchers standards. Then Baltierra joked about not wanting a “hiefer” for a wife, and the producer off-camera gently teased him to not make fun of a woman’s eating habits. Tyler Baltierra: Fat-Shaming Catelynn Lowell in New Teen Mom Preview? Baltierra is friggin’ adorable and therefore gets a pass when it comes to almost anything (almost).  And yet, he admitted to fans on August 19th that he was going through therapy to work on his delivery. “Currently in therapy to work on my delivery of messages & opinions. Yes I know I’m a prick but I admit it instead of defend it #ImAnAsshole,” he tweeted. I think I speak for everyone when I say that Baltierra is NOT an asshole, he’s just a lovely guy who might have said the wrong thing to his lady love.  What man hasn’t done this? Unlike a lot of the other Teen Moms baby daddies, Baltierra’s fanbase was a lot more supportive of Novalee’s dad than, perhaps because Baltierra’s true colors as a kind, honest and compassionate father and partner have shone through over the years. Lowell went to rehab in March to deal with post natal depression and other mental health issues, with Baltierra supported 100%. “Still, definitely admiral of you 2 work things out in therapy 2 continue 2B the awesome husband you are for,” one Twitter fan wrote after the clip aired. Teen Mom OG returns to MTV at 9 p.m. on August 22nd. View Slideshow: Teen Mom Season 6 Previews: So Much Drama For the OG Mamas!

Matt Roberts Dies; 3 Doors Down Guitarist Was 38

Matt Roberts, former guitarist for the popular rock band 3 Doors Down, has passed away at the age of 38. Matt’s father, Darrell Roberts, broke the news online just moments ago. Matt left the band in 2012 due to health issues, but continued to tour with other groups and as a solo artist. Darrell Roberts tells TMZ that his son Darrell was scheduled to perform in Wisconsin today and rehearsed with other musicians until late last night. Father and son returned to their hotel, where Darrell says he was woken around 9 am by detectives who informed him that Matt had passed away . Prescription painkillers were found on the scene. Darrell says that both he and the authorities believe Matt’s apparent overdose was accidental. At this time, no official ruling has been made with regard to the cause of death. The results of a planned autopsy will likely be released next week. Roberts was with 3 Doors Down when the band rose to international fame with their 2000 hit “Kryptonite.” He stuck with the group for their subsequent best-selling singles “Here Without You” and “When I’m Gone.” The video for the latter song – a tribute to American war veterans – has been viewed more than 40 million times on YouTube: 3 Doors Down: “When I’m Gone” His musical talents and signature spiked blonde hair made Roberts one of the band’s most popular members. Darrell Roberts says his son’s fan base remained devoted even after he was forced to leave the band. He adds that Matt was “deeply beloved” by family and friends and described the loss as “devastating.” Tributes from fans and colleagues began pouring in on social media just minutes after news of Matt’s death was made public. Michael Phelps Finally Comments On Ryan Lochte’s Lochmess

Ever since Ryan Lochte was caught lying about being held at gunpoint in Rio on August 14th, people are wondering what his teammate, Michael Phelps thinks about the whole ordeal. E! News was able to get a comment from Phelps as he was leaving a Scottsdale, Arizona Starbucks. “We have good people taking care of it, so hopefully,” Phelps said when asked Lochte would come out of the scandal “unscathed.” According to sources at the coffee chain, Phelps “seemed relaxed” and graciously stopped to thank fans who congratulated him on racking up so many gold medals in Rio. Phelps, 31, landed back in America after the games on August 17th, and has been spending his first days of retirement with fiancee Nicole Johnson and three-month-old son, Boomer. Ryan Lochte: Rio Surveillance Video Today, Lochte issued a mea culpa of sorts (kind of) after it was discovered that he and three teammates lied about being held at gunpoint in Rio. “I want to apologize for my behavior last weekend — for not being more careful and candid in how I described the events of that early morning and for my role in taking the focus away from the many athletes fulfilling their dreams of participating in the Olympics,” the statement read. “I waited to share these thoughts until it was confirmed that the legal situation was addressed and it was clear that my teammates would be arriving home safely.” Jack Conger and Gunnar Bent, two of Lochte’s teammates were with him that night, were pulled off a US-bound plane in Rio so that they could be interrogated by officials. Jimmy Feigen, the third teammate, only got his passport back when he agreed to pay nearly. $11,000 to avoid prosecution. “It’s traumatic to be out late with your friends in a foreign country – with a language barrier – and have a stranger point a gun at you and demand money to let you leave,” Lochte continued. “But regardless of the behavior of anyone else that night, I should have been much more responsible in how I handled myself and for that I am sorry to my teammates, my fans, my fellow competitors, my sponsors, and the hosts of this great event. Kristen Stewart: Robert Pattison And I Were NOT Bella and Edward

Kristen Stewart is only just recovering from her wildly famous relationship with Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson. Not because she still pines for him, but because of the phenomenon it had snowballed into. Stewart and Pattinson hit it off while filming the first installment of the Twilight saga.  When fans found out that Bella and Edward were dating IRL, a sort of fantasy was created that Stewart found impossible to live up to. “People wanted me and Rob to be together so badly that our relationship was made into a product,” Stewart told T magazine. “It wasn’t real life anymore. And that was gross to me,” she continued. “It’s not that I want to hide who I am or hide anything I’m doing in my life. It’s that I don’t want to become a part of a story for entertainment value.” It got to the point where Stewart suffered anxiety on the regular, so much so that she told Elle Magazine recently that she  got sick every morning . That might have been why she ended up having an affair with her Snow White and the Huntsman director, Rupert Sanders in the summer of 2012.  He was married at the time to British model Liberty Ross, and Stewart was still very much with Pattinson. Stewart, perhaps more famous for her reticent nature off-camera, wanted nothing to do with the level of fame she experienced. “I’m not the typical showman. But at the same time, I want so badly to expose myself,” she said.  “I want to be understood and I want to be seen, and I want to do that in the rawest, purest, most naked way I can.” These days, Stewart has managed to survive the public backlash from that summer, though it did take a while for her to weather the storm. Stewart is now in a relationship with producer Alicia Cargile , and she couldn’t be more proud to show off a relationship where she finally feels like herself. View Slideshow: 32 Bisexual Celebrities “I would never talk about any of my relationships before, but once I started dating girls it seemed like there was an opportunity to represent something really positive,” Stewart said. “I still want to protect my personal life, but I don’t want to seem like I’m protecting the idea, so that does sort of feel like I owe something to people.”
