Lauren Conrad, whose fashion line for Kohl’s and her own Paper Crown line are both going strong these days, says the trick to designing great clothes is to do so selfishly. Her motto for creating each season’s signature look? “You know what you’d want to buy – design it,” she tells People . There’s a continuity in each season for each line that comes from the former Hills star’s very own vision. “The look is soft, romantic, pretty,” she explains. And the 25-year-old says she’s also figured out that style isn’t just about looking good. “Dress in what makes you feel good about yourself too,” she says. The California girl isn’t only involved in fashion these days; she just finished up her stint as a guest writer for Forbes and recently announced plans to launch a beauty line based on her popular new website, TheBeautyDepartment (dot) com. Plus-size women can feel like stars, too. After co-designing her Emmys dress with dressmaker Daniella Pearl, the 41-year-old – who combed through “9 million dresses with taffeta or shiny bows” – decided to create a clothing line for women with similar body types. “Trying to find stuff that’s still fashion-forward in my size is damn near impossible,” she tells The Hollywood Reporter . “It’s either for like a 98-year-old woman or a 14-year-old hooker, and there is nothing in the middle.” It wasn’t until McCarthy became a mom to daughters Vivian, 4, and Georgette, 1, that she stopped feeling insecure about her physical appearance. “I just try not to give too much energy to it,” she says. “At 20, I would have been like: ‘Don’t they like me? Was it my hair?’ At 41, I think the things that define me, I hope, are a lot more than those kinds of petty things.” Now that’s something all of us could probably learn from. In addition to delving into the world of fashion, McCarthy and her husband, actor Ben Falcone, are also starting their own production company.

The 47-year-old mother of two was recently seen taking a shopping cart through Target in Alexandria, Va., just outside D.C., carrying two bags full of purchases. The fashionable First Lady dressed down for the occasion. If she weren’t swarmed by Secret Service agents and photographers every waking moment, the American style icon might even be considered incognito in a gray Nike baseball cap, sunglasses and a casual buttoned top. Somehow, during a break from his lie-filled life , Brad Pitt found time this week to fly to Oakland and attend the premiere of Moneyball . He struck a pose on the red carpet of the event and looked like his usual, dapper self, which could cause a problem for co-star Jonah Hill. Perhaps inspired by the underdog story of the movie in which they both are featured, Hill has challenged Pitt to a Fashion Face-Off. Does the trimmed-down actor have a chance? Pippa Middleton showed up to support one of her favorite UK fashion designers, Temperley London, at fashion week in the British capital Monday evening. Wearing the “classic fan dress” from the label’s autumn/winter collection, dressed down with black suede ankle boots, the rising fashion star was all smiles. The theory that someone kidnapped Michaele Salahi was quickly debunked … but the truth was even weirder, which is standard fare for the Salahis. As we reported last night, the White House party crasher and Real Housewives of D.C. star was not abducted. She was with Neal Schon of Journey. Michaele’s husband Tareq was apparently as blindsided as everyone else, saying he considered Neal and his band members “friends” … until now. Contrary to Tareq’s belief that his wife had been kidnapped, Michaele Salahi in fact was with Neal in Tennessee, bouncing from one Journey concert to the next. Tareq has been crying hysterically, according to reports, saying he feels his life is over because Michaele is all he lived for and she’s having an affair with Neal. Whatever their status, they are well are acquainted. The band recently came to their winery in Virginia, played for free and stayed with Tareq and Michaele. Moreover, just two weeks ago, Tareq and Michaele went to a Journey show and hung out backstage with Neal and a woman named Ava at the Virginia show. Tareq says that’s Neal’s wife, which would make this even more absurd … but either way, Michaele was reportedly bragging about their “wild sex” recently … Sources say Michaele and Neal first met in 1998 – while she was engaged to Tareq – and the two felt an instant attraction. In 2009, things came to a head. We’re saying the relationship turned sexual, and profoundly so. Michaele bragged to friends about it, which is not a good way to keep adultery secret. Last week, apparently, Michaele decided it was time to make a move. She ditched Tareq Tuesday to meet up with Neal and hasn’t looked back since. Tareq legitimately felt she had been abducted, making this all the more devastating for her husband. He’s told friends he feels “betrayed” by his wife. Dr. Phil believes that Cindy Anthony, mother of Casey, is all about making excuses. As we know, Dr. Phil McGraw does not tolerate excuses. It’s YOUR fault! And in advance of his highly anticipated interview with George and Cindy Anthony, the first part of which airs today, Phil spoke on The View about Cindy. “She seems to make an excuse at every turn,” he said, adding that the grandmother of the slain Caylee Anthony is still “very much in denial.” The TV shrink also said he doesn’t believe that George Anthony molested his daughter or that family dysfunction can explain Casey’s behavior. “I think it will change people’s view, whether they liked them before or didn’t,” he said of his no-holds-barred interview down with the Anthonys. To their credit, in exchange for their first TV interview, the parents of Casey Anthony asked for a donation to the non-profit Caylee’s Fund.
