Drummer Clyde Stubblefield Dead At Age 73 Clyde Stubblefield, drummer for James Brown and originator of one of hip-hop’s most popular beat samples, has passed away at age 73. His cause of death was kidney failure. If you don’t know Stubblefield’s name offhand, you definitely know his sound. A 20-second snippet of a Stubblefield drum solo found on James Brown’s 1970 “Funky Drummer” single that made a HUGE impact on music, serving as the backbeat for countless hip-hop tracks — totalling over 1000 samples of the beat. Songs using the iconic percussion include Public Enemy’s “Fight the Power,” “Bring the Noise” and “Rebel Without a Pause,” N.W.A’s “F*ck tha Police” and Dr. Dre’s “Let Me Ride” to LL Cool J’s “Mama Said Knock You Out,” Run-D.M.C.’s “Run’s House,” just to name a few. She likes his smile… Flex Alexander And Shanice Celebrate 17 Years Of Marriage Flex and his songstress wife are celebrating 17 years of sweet wedded bliss. Flex and Shanice have been married for nearly two decades and Shanice took to social media to mark the occasion with her “chocolate covered” hubby. “Happy 17 year anniversary to my chocolate covered Sunday,” wrote Shanice. “Thank you for your unconditional love.” The couple previously detailed their sweet black love on their OWN reality show “Flex & Shanice.” Interestingly enough, Shanice’s mom who looks like she could be her sister, is also celebrating 17 years of marital bliss with Shanice’s stepdad. Both Flex and Shanice are in their 40s. Flex is 46-years-old and Shanice is 43. Ain’t sweet black love, grand??? REVOLT 5th Annual Global Spin Awards The 5th Annual Global Spin Awards, the only award show dedicated to the Art of DJing, went down in New Orleans right on the edge of All-Star Weekend . Host Tip “T.I.” Harris kicked off the show with a performance of ‘What You Know’ and was then joined on stage by B.o.B. Dave Chapelle presented the award for National Mixshow of the Year, while star spinners like DJ Clark Kent, DJ Khaled , and DJ Envy looked on. Chicago Girl Killed In Gang Shootout Saves 6 Lives Through Organ Donation At this point there really isn’t a whole lot you can say about the gun violence in Chicago except that it needs to stop. There have been debates, panels, town halls, speeches and still, African-American blood continues to run the streets of one of America’s biggest cities. It isn’t often that we even get a glimpse of a silver lining when it comes to this subject, and we’re not even sure if this particular story can be classified as such. But we were taken aback by a Chicago-Tribune report about the violent death of 11-year-old Takiya Holmes. Takiya was sitting in a family van with her 3-year-old brother when Antwan Jones opened fire at rival gang members across the street. In typical fashion, Antwan didn’t hit a single one of his targets, yet happened to hit Takiya directly in the temple. Shortly after she was unplugged from life support on Tuesday, Takiya’s organs were donated to 6 people, one “distant” family member and 5 other strangers. Seven of Takiya’s organs were donated following her death on Tuesday — to a distant relative and to strangers she had never met. Someone received her heart, her pancreas, her lungs and her kidneys. Two recipients shared her liver. While the family’s generosity will certainly not completely ease the pain of losing their daughter in the first place, they are aware of the joy they have brought to others. “It brings us peace to know that she’s living in someone else,” said Holmes, adding that Takiya’s mother and father eagerly agreed to the transplants. “The fact that she extended another person’s life and helped give them quality of life, we can live with that.” It took a lot of courage by Takiya’s family to share their child with someone else. Minorities, and African-Americans in particular, are not quick to donate organs. Though 20 percent of all transplant recipients are African-American — the overwhelming majority of them kidney recipients — blacks make up only 16 percent of all donors, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Blac Chyna Left Rob Kardashian Over His Mental Issues As you’ve surely heard by now, Blac Chyna and Rob Kardashian have called it quits — for real for real — and cancelled all plans for their upcoming wedding. But the one thing that wasn’t detailed by those blabbermouth “sources” is the reason things went kaput. But as they’re now telling People …it was the obvious problem that eventually spelled the end for #BlacRob. Chyna has long known that Rob was an insecure recluse , spending his days wearing the same outfit inside his home and eating his feelings…but she eventually hit a wall and realized that there was nothing she could do to help him make a permanent change for the better. “Chyna is super fed up with Rob and thinks he is way too emotional and depressed. She thinks he has terrible issues. He is always battling his own insecurities and is unstable. It’s a major turn-off to her, and she thinks it’s incredibly unhealthy for the baby and their family.” Basically, Chyna realized she doesn’t have the medical degrees or intensive counseling training it’s actually going to take to fix Rob or even deal with his mountain of self-esteem and psych issues. In fact, not only does she feel his problems make him an unfit partner, but she’s grown concerned about his ability to be an effective father to their four-month-old daughter Dream. “They’re living separately and she’s keeping Rob at arm’s length, both from the baby and from her.” Well, damn.
