Director Antoine Fuqua who gave us Denzel Washington’s “Training Day” was seen in Italy this week for the 2019 Ischia Global Film & Music Fest off the coast of Naples. Now mind you, Antoine and Nicole Murphy were spotted together in May at the premiere of HBO’s “What’s My Name: Muhammad Ali” documentary. Source: Donat Sorokin / Getty Philly Man Climbs Building To Save His Mother During A Fire According to ABC Philly , a Philadelphia man has become a local hero after scaling a West Philadelphia apartment building during a fire to save his mother. Jermaine, 35, is a roofer by trade, so he has some experience with tall buildings. “As kids we used to jump roofs,” he said. “Glad I had the practice.” Last week when the 19-story Westpark Apartments high-rise at 4445 Holden Street started filling with smoke, Jermaine got a call from his sister that their mother, 65-year-old Sheila, who is bed-ridden, couldn’t get out of her 15th floor apartment. So he sprang into action. After being blocked by the police when trying to enter the building, he decided to climb up and save her himself. “All for my mom’s safety, period. I wasn’t worried about mine at all. She can’t get out of the bed or walk around so if there’s a fire she needs help out,” he said. Jermaine actually DID make it all the way to his mom’s balcony and was assured by her that she was doing OK because the fire was contained. Instead of arresting Jermaine when he climbed back down, an officer actually let him go. “He understood the circumstances, he knew – when your adrenaline is pumping, and your mom is up there, you thinking she’s dying – you’d do anything you can,” Jermaine said according to ABC Philly.
Source: Dennis Fischer Photography / Getty A Father Drove His Two Severely Autistic Sons Off Of A Pier In California A man in California has been charged with capital murder for killing his two sons, who both have severe autism. He is being accused of taking out insurance policies to cover his family and then driving his car off a Los Angeles-area pier four years ago, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office reported. 44-year-old Ali Elmezayen was charged with two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder with the special circumstance allegations of multiple murders carried out for his financial gain. Prosecutors involved in the case said that he purchased $6 million in life insurance policies to cover his family in the event of an accidental death. Elmezayen is currently under federal custody and will first be tried on the insurance fraud charges, then the murder charges. He was in the car with his wife and two sons back in April of 2015 when he drove it off the berth and plunged them all into the water, according to prosecutors. Ali’s car window was open, and he swam to the surface within 30 seconds before making his way to a ladder on the pier. His wife, Rabab Diab, couldn’t swim, but authorities said that she was rescued by a fisherman after surfacing and screaming, “My kids, my kids.” “The poor lady was screaming hysterically,” recalled fisherman Ray Prince. “I thought she was going to drown.” Their two boys, 8-year-old Abdelkarim and 13-year-old Elhassan, couldn’t swim and were also strapped into child seats. Their lifeless bodies ended up being pulled from the car later by rescue divers. Following this incident, Elmezayen collected more than $260,000 in insurance payouts for the deaths and then wired over $170,000 back to his native Egypt, prosecutors in the fraud case explained. Initially, the district attorney declined to bring charges in his sons’ deaths because of insufficient evidence. A police mechanic found that the brake pedal in the vehicle didn’t properly work, but couldn’t tell if that was the case before the tragedy or because of the salt water corrosion. These new charges are a result of a further investigation. If convicted of murder, Ali Elmezayen faces a possible maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty.

Source: Kwanchai Lerttanapunyaporn / EyeEm / Getty 77-Year-Old Murders Another Victim After Being Released From Prison Albert Flick, who is now 77-years-old , served a 25-years prison sentence after he stabbed his wife to death in front of her daughter back in 1979. Shortly after he was released, he was jailed again for four more years after attacking a woman in 2010. When he was released in 2014, he was deemed “too old to be dangerous,” but the Washington Post reports that Flick was convicted once again on Wednesday of stabbing a homeless woman 11 times in broad daylight, in front of her two sons. In 2010, a judge ignored the prosecutors’ requests for a longer sentence following his attack on a woman, stating that Flick was not a threat due to his age–this was when he was in his late ’60s. He committed his second murder last year, targeting homeless woman Kimberly Dobbie after he became obsessed with her and began to stalk her. He reportedly learned that she was planning to leave Lewiston, Maine–which is where Flick moved to when he was released in 2014–and he thought to himself, “If I can’t have her, I will kill her.” Flick bought a pair of knives at a Walmart prior to the day of the killing. The next day, he proceeded to attack and murder Dobbie in front of a laundromat, piercing both her heart and lungs in the process. Her 11-year-old twin sons and three men all witnessed the attack and attempted to stop him, but were unsuccessful. “It was soul-crushing for them,” juror Caitlain Jasper said about the incident. “And they’ll never be able to forget it.” Before Flick killed Dobbie, he became so obsessed with her that he started to eat at the same homeless shelter as her in order to get closer. Eslie Clement, who saw Albert stab her mother to death back in 1979, said the judge responsible for freeing him will have to answer for their lax sentencing of him in 2010. “I would like to just see [everyone involved] in a line and stand there and tell [Dobbie’s] boys, explain to them how this man was on the streets and how it’s OK,” she said. “How the law makes it alright for their mom to now be gone and for them to have to witness it” Albert Flick was convicted of murder on Wednesday, and, this time, it looks likely that he’ll actually spend the rest of his life in prison. The charges carry a minimum 25-year sentence, and prosecutors plan to request that he be placed behind bars for life.
It’s only mid-July, but all over the country, school districts are shortening breaks in favor of longer school years. And so, in some areas of the South (Where their summer breaks tend to start and end earlier.), it’s already back-to-school season. Most kids are probably pretty bummed about starting school in mid-July — but we’re guessing Kaiser Griffith and Maryssa Eason are pretty okay with it. Yes, it’s hard to believe he’s growing up so fast, but little Kaiser began kindergarten this week. Jenelle posted photos of Kai’s first day of kindergarten and Maryssa’s first day of 7th grade on her Instagram page this week. “#FirstDayOfSchool,” she captioned the pics. “These kiddos are getting so big, so fast!” Jenelle continued, adding the hashtags, “#BittersweetMoments #Motivated and #SchoolDays.” Some fans were taken aback that Jenelle’s kids start school so early in the summer. Others, of course, are still in shock that she was able to regain custody of Kaiser and Maryssa . Yes, as we’re sure you know, Evans lost custody of three of her kids following a CPS investigation back in May. The shocking decision to dismiss the case did not go over well on social media — which is no great surprise, what with the kids being returned to a home with a psychopath who’s known to shoot and kill beloved pets during his infamous temper tantrums. Jenelle’s comments section is a curated space these days, with the disgraced former reality star devoting a lot of time to deleting negative comments. But clearly, she didn’t catch them all — or consider the fact that folks on other social media platforms can still discuss her pics with impunity. “Ummm I thought you coparented with everyone fine? Where is his Father & WTF kind of school/parents would let this guy around their kids?” asked Twitter user @anon_mafioso, remarking on Nathan Griffith’s absence from the photos “You should be thankful you even get to see those kids,” Instagrammer shesworthwords commented. That one pretty much sums up the general feeling toward Jenelle getting her children back. She made it clear from the start that she considers herself the victim of an appalling injustice and feels that her kids were taken from her as the result of a smear campaign coordinated by the media and her family. This, obviously, is batsh-t thinking, but it’s what we’ve come to expect from Jenelle. We just hope that she occasionally takes some time out from her self-pity to consider the fact that is indeed quite lucky to have her kids returned to her — and she should do everything in her power to provide a safe and stable environment for them, so that they need not be uprooted again.
