SMH: Chris Darden Withdraws From Representing Eric Holder In Nipsey Hussle Murder Case Following Threats

Source: Francine Orr / Getty Former O.J. Prosecutor Chris Darden Withdraws From Nipsey Murder Case Chris Darden is set to appear in court today alongside the man accused of killing Nipsey Hussle for the first and only time; He is withdrawing from the case partly because of the threats he’s received for the defending Eric Holder. Darden announced his decision on his Facebook page, writing, “After centuries of a history of black men hung from trees without trial, or after the thousands of cases of black men tried, convicted and executed without counsel … I cannot understand why in 2019 some people would deny a black man his 6th Amendment right to counsel of his choice. Or why defending such a man should invite threats not only against me but against my children too.” He continued, saying, “The right to counsel is … not only a constitutional right, it is a civil right as well. Just as they were in 1995-Cowards never change. These days these cowards don’t send letters instead they sit anonymously behind keyboards threatening a man’s mother and children. And some folks think that’s funny. It isn’t and I won’t ever forget it.” Darden continued on to address his critics directly, saying, “To those who issued those threats to my children please pay close attention so there is no misunderstanding. Later. F**K YOU!” He ended his statement by saying, “As for me, I continue to thrive. I continue to be loved. I continue to walk with kings. And I will continue my pursuit of fairness and justice on behalf of my clients and others charged with crimes. After 25 years some of them still haven’t learned : Their lies and threats will never deter me from my mission. Thank you again my good friends. The struggle continues. Thank you.” Chris Darden had been on the receiving end of numerous threats since his decision to represent the man suspected of killing rapper Nipsey Hussle became public. His daughter, Jenee, went on social media after her father intially took the case, also saying that she was “receiving vile comments and messages.” “Like many of you, I found out about my father’s involvement in the case while scrolling through social media. I was not prepared for this backlash that has triggered bad memories from the O.J. Simpson trial.” Do you think Darden made the right decision in withdrawing from this case? Or is it too late?

We are people who have been impacted by cages — either by being in them ourselves or witnessing our families and loved ones be encaged. We are queer, trans, young, elder, and immigrant.” Ending cash bail has become a rising issue in the larger effort to end mass incarceration. According to the Prison Policy Initiative , more than 500,000 people who haven’t been convicted of a crime are detained before their trial. Many are detained in local jails because they can’t pay the bail amounts. The median bail amount for a felony is $10,000 which is about eight months of income for a typical person detained because they can’t afford bail. According to recent studies , Black and Latinx folks are more likely than White people to be detained without bail, and in situations where bail is granted, it’s often set at a significantly higher rate for people of color. According to an NAACP fact sheet , Black women are also incarcerated at twice the rate of White women and a 2010 study showed that one in nine Black kids have an incarcerated parent, which could often lead to disruptive living situations for the kid or the missing of important childhood events. For folks interested in the #FreeBlackMamas cause, the National Bail Out collective provides a donation link here .

Here’s What Omari Hardwick REALLY Thought About The BeyHive Backlash Over That Beyoncé Kiss

Source: ANGELA WEISS / Getty Omari Hardwick Talks Backlash Over Beyoncé Kiss Omari Hardwick has been keeping quiet about the backlash he faced after embracing and kissing Beyoncé at the 2019 NAACP Image Awards, but this week he broke his silence and explained what was REALLY going on. Speaking about fatherhood and raising his daughter Nova in an interview with Global Grind , the Power actor says that night he was just worried about his baby girl because she’d scratched her cornea. Omari says both Beyoncé and Jay-Z asked about Nova that night, which then led to an extended chat with Hov and the viral moment with Bey. From Global Grind : Criticized for how he interacted with Beyoncé at the award show, Omari had yet to discuss the moment publicly until explaining during our interview that, that night he was simply a worried father thanking his friends who’d expressed concern for his daughter throughout the night. “She has ironically been injured in two very historical moments for me,” Omari told  Global Grind  when asked about Nova. “Her cornea was scratched the night of the Image Awards. The length of [my] talk with Jay was him asking me about her eye. The length of the hug with Bey was her asking about her eye. I give the speech and I bring up her eye,” he recalls. Describing another moment when his daughter was hurt, Omari went on to tell us Nova’s head had been “busted by her little brother.” “Her eye is scratched by him the night of the Image Awards. A month to maybe a month and a half later, within the time of Nipsey’s death (who was a friend), now her head is busted,” he said, eyes wide with panic. “So, being a father of a daughter, makes it to where the MET experience for me might’ve been the most slow motion, beautifully embraced reality… walking through those long halls of that gallery… because I was thinking so much, on that long walk through those artifacts, about Nova. I kept thinking about Nova,” he revealed, referencing his appearance alongside Dapper Dan at the 2019 MET Gala earlier this week. Omari also said Jay is like a big bro, so there’s no way he wouldn’t show Beyoncé love. In an earlier sidebar, Omari explained that while the world knows him as Ghost, Jay-Z knows him as a little brother, saying “Jay-Z would’ve punched me in my face if I didn’t hug his wife. He would’ve said ‘n*gga, you don’t see Bey?’” He tells the site that at no point in his life, even before having his daughter, did he think disrespecting women was cool… “My honor and my respect for women – while you have idiot fanbases who go ‘Watch your wife around Omari’ – I got a wife (A), so f*ck you. I love you, but f*ck yo u (B). (C), I respect women so much prior to Nova being born that once Nova got to Earth… man, it doubled my respect for women. But I had it already ’cause I had a pop, who validated my existence as a man, so I didn’t think demeaning women was ever cool.” Click here to read the full article and let us know what you think.

Be Safe Tho: Shots Were Fired At An Atlanta Studio Where Offset Was Recording

Source: FayesVision/WENN.com / WENN Offset Possibly Targeted In A Drive-By Shooting Offset was recording at an Atlanta studio on Wednesday night during a drive-by shooting at the same location. According to reports from TMZ , a studio where the  Migos rapper was recording was “peppered with bullets.” Law enforcement sources who spoke with the publication said that the shooting occurred around 9 p.m at the Crossover Entertainment Group studio in Atlanta, Georgia. When police arrived at the scene, they found damage to three vehicles as well as the exterior of the building. There were reports following this incident that one person on the scene had been shot in the leg, but police were unable to locate a shooting victim. Surveillance video shows a person leaning out the window of a car while firing at the building. Anonymous sources also told TMZ  that the shooting happened shortly after Offset stepped outside of his recording session to get some air. The remaining people inside the studio ended up hiding in an interior room following the shooting and the rapper had reportedly left the scene already by the time officers arrived. The Migos member isn’t on the best of terms with the law right now–facing three felony gun charges and another warrant for allegedly breaking someone’s phone –so it makes sense that he didn’t want to be seen caught up in the commotion of a crime scene.
