It's that time of the year again. Namely, the end. With 2017 just about over, editors at The Hollywood Gossip are finally prepared to reveal our 10th annual Celebrity of the Year. But not without a lot of build-up and drama first. Let's do this down below! 1. A Tradition Unlike Any Other Forget The Masters. THG running down our top stars of a certain calendar year has been a long-anticipated and much-balleyhooed tradition since we started doing it in 2007. 2. And Who Was the Winner Way Back Then? It was an easy call, considering Britney Spears started the year by shaving her head and ended it by being at the center of one pregnancy rumors after another. 3. Who Else Has Taken Home the Honor? To name a few: Kim Kardashian, the entire cast of New Moon, Justin Bieber and Kristen Stewart. 4. Who Won It Last Year? Taylor Swift. Hard to believe, right? Considering how quiet she’s been in 2017? But the singer had to take a long break after all that went down a year ago. 5. Who are the Contenders This Year? Many think 2017 was the worst year in the history of mankind, largely because of the person sitting in the White House. So we need to start there… 6. But This Ain’t Happening Granted, Donald Trump likely had a bigger impact on 2017 than anyone else out there, but we refuse to give him any sort of distinction. It’s easy to forget due to her demeanor, appearance, and the fact that she seemingly hasn’t attended school in several years, but Kylie Jenner is only 17 years old. Sure, Kylie is dating Tyga , who’s 25 and already has a kid and an ex-fiancee. And yes, Kylie’s changing face suggests she’s had plenty of work done, and we generally associate cosmetic surgery with aging Real Housewives rather than high school-aged teens, but at the end of the day Kylie is still a minor. Unfortunately (in this case) she’s also a famous minor, which means underage clubbing with her much older boyfriend is virtually impossible: Bouncers are unlikely to be fooled by a fake ID, and even if Kylie sneaks in, she’ll probably be spotted by a snitch. But apparently, none of that is enough to stop the pouty reality star from trying: “[Kylie and Tyga] love to party together and Kylie is pissed she can’t go clubbing on New Year’s Eve like everyone else she knows,” a source tells Radar Online. “She is telling her sisters that it’s not fair that she’s so famous because she can’t get a fake ID or go out to a club without everyone automatically knowing who she is. That isn’t going to stop her from trying to sneak in tonight, though.” Complaining that you’re too famous to get into clubs when you’re underage might be the firstiest First World problem we’ve ever heard of. If they’d only planned in advance, Kylie and Tyga could’ve gone to Europe again to take advantage of the continent’s lower drinking ages. We’ve come to the end of the year, THGers, and with it, The Hollywood Gossip’s epic, prestigious, arbitrary, 8th Annual Celebrity of the Year countdown. In reflecting upon the year that was, we’ve paid tribute to the 10 celebs who provided us with the best moments, stories, scandals and overall entertainment. What a group we’ve been privileged enough to cover, too. Earlier, we kicked off the countdown with Ariana Grande, Iggy Azalea, Nicki Minaj, Kendall and Kylie Jenner, Princess Elsa, the Selfie, and Kim Kardashian (obvi). Teresa Giudice earned the bronze medal, and Justin Bieber’s epic start to this year, and downward spiral in general, was good enough for the runner-up spot. That brings us to a talented, charismatic and beautiful young woman who went from superstar to even bigger superstar, and was truly peerless in 2014. Two trends swept the nation in 2014: The Twerk. The Selfie. But while the former dance move was mostly reserved for those such as Miley Cyrus and Nicki Minaj, the latter has been adopted by singers and actors; reality stars and athletes; laymen and laywomen across the globe. Frozen came out on November 27, 2013. But every single parent around the country will confirm that this Disney blockbuster truly left its mark over the past 12 months. And he or she will likely be doing so while “Let It Go” is blaring from their car stereo for the 37th time that day. The time to unveil the most deserving finalists for, and the winner of, The Hollywood Gossip’s epic, prestigious, arbitrary, 8th Annual Celebrity of the Year honor. Between now and the end of 2014, we will be counting down the 10 stars who provided us with the year’s best moments, stories, scandals and entertainment value. Earlier, we kicked off the countdown with Ariana Grande at #10. Today, it’s Celebrity of the Year Finalist #9 , Iggy Azalea! Iggy Azalea: “Fancy” Who dat, who dat? I-G-G-Y. Who dat, who dat? I-G-G-Y! Like Ariana, some people knew of her prior to this year. Not unlike Ariana, the Aussie rapper had no “Problem” making 2014 a year in which her popularity exploded into the stratosphere, and not without controversy. She may or may not write her own rhymes , but she’s had some massive hits, more feuds than we can even list and bordering on household name status. Or at least mononym status. There’s only one I-G-G-Y! “Fancy” and “Problem” were bona fide chart toppers for Azalea, who became a go-to for pop radio stations, live TV performances and celebrity gossip sites. Between her relationship with Nick Young and her beefs with Nicki Minaj, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Azealia Banks and others, everyone wanted a piece of Iggy. At THG, we’re doing that by counting down the 10 most newsworthy celebrities of 2011. First, there was the arresting centerfold Lindsay Lohan at #10; then the newly-divorced reality show judge Jennifer Lopez at #9; then the singing sensation Selena Gomez at#8; then those hilarious viral video stars at#7 spot; then everyone’s favorite California Gurl Katy Perry at #6. Now, at #5, who else? Justin Bieber himself! 2011 was the year Justin Bieber went from floppy-haired niche favorite to mainstream teenage icon. He met the President, he made wishes come true for family members of 9/11 , he even proved infallible to the classic celebrity scandal. Seriously. Nice try, Mariah Yeater . Coming into this year, we all knew Justin could sing. But 12 months later, we know now he can also play basketball , give back to charities and dominate the box office as much as he can the music charts. “Never Say Never” made millions across the U.S. and was actually applauded by most movie critics . Bieber can also rap, act (hello, CSI guest starring-spot!) and almost take down Twitter single-handedly by merely getting a haircut. Justin went public in February with Selena Gomez, but that relationship has not slowed down his popularity. To the star’s credit, he’s been nothing but open about his feelings and his connection to this pretty artist. The only drawback of their courtship? How Bieber has made every other boyfriend in the country look horrible by comparison, thanks to stunts such as this . With 2010 drawing to a close, it is with much pride that THG unveils its 10 finalists for its prestigious, Fourth Annual Celebrity of the Year award. These stars all gave us their best, their worst, their nude pics (sometimes) and their scandals (often). This month, THG honors that greatness. After the bong-smoking, often-pantsless Miley Cyrus could not be tamed at #3, we present another polarizing figure at #2… Mel Gibson! Simply put, Mel Gibson is not on this list because of his work. The legendary actor became completely unglued this year. He is an all-time movie star now embroiled in one of the all-time celebrity scandals. We thought we’d seen it all with his epic DUI arrest of 2006. Or when he made news LAST year by giving it to Oksana Grigorieva – and getting her pregnant – while still married to his wife of nearly three decades, Robyn. It turns out Mel saved his borderline crazy best for 2010 … Mel and Oksana’s daughter, Lucia, was born in late 2009. The pair split up early this year amid a volcanic blowout at the actor’s Malibu home. A blowout, Oksana claims, that ended with both herself and Lucia getting punched in the face. Mel denies this and says she’s extorting him. What he can’t deny, however, are the racist phone tirades – obtained and released, day after day by Radar Online this summer – against her. Whether he abused her or not (he tells a different story and there have been no charges filed against him), the Mel Gibson tapes are shocking. The man needs help. Medication and then some. As celebrity news goes, this story will go down as one of the most remarkable of all time.
