Sarah Palin Rips Michelle Obama, Decries First Lady’s Efforts to Curb Childhood Obesity

Sigh. Sarah Palin is back in the news again. For whatever reason, the ex-Alaska Governor took First Lady Michelle Obama and her efforts to improve childhood nutrition to task on Laura Ingraham’s radio show. We know conservatives believe in smaller government, and there are strong cases to be made for that philosophy. Attacking Michelle’s nutrition initiative, though? Sarah Palin is not a fan of Michelle Obama’s anti-obesity efforts . Of the First Lady, Palin told Ingraham that “I think she has got a different worldview and she is not hesitant at all to share what her worldview is.” As for Sarah Palin’s worldview, no one can make sense of it, but she does use big words like “exceptionalism” in the rant against Michelle below: “She encapsulated what her view of America is, I believe, unless she has evolved and things have changed in the last two years, but she said it on the campaign trail twice that it was the first time that she had been proud of her country when finally people were paying attention to Barack Obama.” “I think that’s appalling. We can think of this infinite number of reasons to be proud of American exceptionalism and it baffles me that anybody would have that view and then allow that view to bleed over into policy.” “Take her anti-obesity thing that she is on. She is on this kick, right. What she is telling us is she cannot trust parents to make decisions for their own children, for their own families in what we should eat.” “I know I’m going to be again criticized for bringing this up, but instead of a government thinking that they need to take over and make decisions for us according to some politician or politician’s wife priorities, just leave us alone, get off our back, and allow us as individuals to exercise our own God-given rights to make our own decisions and then our country gets back on the right track.” Yes … the government needs to “get off our back” for this silly “anti-obesity thing.” Why encourage health when we can be as fat as we want! Freedom rules! Can’t you encourage people to make smarter choices that benefit themselves and the public health system as a whole? How is that an evil federal takeover? Jessica Simpson: Thinner, More Health-Conscious

Whether it’s food or Eric Johnson , Jessica Simpson is very thoughtful about what she puts into her body. As a result, she’s looking a lot better lately! The popular 1990s/early 2000s singer appeared thinned out on the new cover of Lucky magazine, and she is opening up about struggle to stay fit. “I think a woman always stresses out about their weight,” she says. “It’s just like a woman thing – unless you’re the women we don’t like that are supermodels that are just naturally fantastic. But me, I’m a curvy girl. I have to always be conscious of what I’m putting into my body, if I’m going to be working out.” Jessica Simpson now and early last year. Nice! Jessica also set the record straight about rumors that she’s been asked to become a judge on American Idol . Shocker alert – that was just a rumor. “I mean, I don’t think so,” she says. “I haven’t gotten a phone call.” If she were to become a judge, though, how would she react to it? “I’m not a very judgmental person, so I could probably stick my foot in my mouth a couple times,” she says, noting that she does have something to offer. “I am a singer and I do know if it’s going to actually happen for someone or not.” There you go. Teresa Giudice: Would You Hit It?

Despite having a baby girl just over a month ago, Teresa Giudice tells the latest issue of In Touch Weekly she’s never been happier with her body. Of course, the breast enhancement surgery she underwent last year helps a great deal with that confidence. Teresa told the tabloid: “I just got them done last summer, so this is my first time wearing a bikini and I have to say, this is the happiest I have ever been with my body. I feel like I have the whole package!” What else went into this package, aside from silicone? The Real Housewives of New Jersey star dished on a number of weight-related topics: How much does she weigh? I hardly ever weigh myself, but I do fit back into most of the clothes I wore before I had Audriana. I think I’m a 27 jean size and size 4 in dresses. Does she diet? I’m never on a diet. I always eat what I want. When I was pregnant, I had to eat anything that was in front of my face. It’s an Italian thing — they say if you see something and don’t eat it, your baby will get a birthmark! What’s her favorite body part? I love my new boobies, but if I had to pick between an ass or boobs, I’d have to say my ass is more important to me. I’m proud of my bubble butt! Got all that, readers? Now, you tell us: Would you hit this?

Jennifer Love Hewitt Aims to Inspire, Fails

In December 2007, Jennifer Love Hewitt lashed out at critics that mocked her bathing suit-clad body. She admirably said at the time: “To set the record straight, I’m not upset for me, but for all of the girls out there that are struggling with their body image. A size 2 is not fat! Nor will it ever be. And being a size 0 doesn’t make you beautiful.” True, inspirational words. Now, in the latest issue of People , the actress says she wants to urge young women to not focus on their weight, saying: “When I meet young girls, I’m always like, ‘Just do me one favor.’ Love what you look like right now – and remember I said it 10 years from now because it’s the greatest gift I can give.” That sounds nice and all, but Hewitt then refers to her own figure as “a work in progress” and adds: “In another eight months, it’s going to be so much better than it is today… “I’d want to have Gisele Bundchen’s body. Even though she’s tall and skinny, she does have curves… and I think that’s hot. Halle Berry also is kind of amazing.” Isn’t JLH sending a mixed message here? Should girls be happy with their bodies, or should they aspire to be like Gisele and Berry, easily two of the best looking women in the world? Call us, Jennifer. Perhaps we can have dinner together and then discuss this issue over breakfast… if you know what we mean!

Does Ali Fedotowsky Have an Eating Disorder?

Ali Fedotowsky wants to “crash diet” after gaining a staggering 15 pounds during and after filming The Bachelorette, according to the new issue of Us Weekly . Either it’s a really slow week at Us Weekly, or Ali has an eating disorder and/or severely low self-esteem, because … well, have you seen her? She’s so cute! Still, “They’d retape scenes, so all she did was eat and drink,” a show insider explains. After the show wrapped, “she binged while unwinding with her family.” We’re not sure what’s more shocking, that Ali Fedotowsky thinks she needs to lose weight, or that they re-tape scenes on The Bachelorette … no effing way. We feel like we’ve been kicked in the stomach, then again in the groin. Ali Fedotowsky on The Bachelorette, left, and two weeks ago. Do you think she really filled out that much? If anything, those supposed 15 pounds may look good on her . According to the celebrity gossip tabloid, after she saw her fuller figure on the ABC series’ premiere, the 25-year-old was inspired to get back into shape. “It’s been stressful watching herself,” a source says of the Facebook ad rep. “She’s a size 6 and not meant to be super tiny, but she wants to lose weight.” Her plan – Bachelorette spoilers alert! – a high protein diet of egg whites, calorie counting and daily runs. Not exactly anorexic/bulimic behavior, at least. Still, is it necessary? Could the rumors that she’s still single and picks no one on the season finale be playing a role in this somehow? We’re quite curious. “I’m not sure if she’s lost anything yet,” says the pal. “But she’s trying!”

THG Exclusive: Nicky Holender Speaks on Kendra DVD, Chris Harrison’s Strength and More

Chances are, you haven’t heard of Nicky Holender. But you’re very familiar with his client base. This personal trainer is responsible for the physiques of Kendra Wilkinson, Melanie Brown, Chris Harrison and other celebrities so famous they’ve made him sign confidentiality agreements that keep their names a secret. How does he motivate these stars? And what’s the deal behind his upcoming Kendra DVD (No, not that one !)? We spoke with the former professional soccer player today and asked him about society’s weight loss craze, among other topics… THG : What do tabloid covers hyping various celebrity’s weight loss achievements sell so well? Holender : Weight loss is a goal a lot of people strive for. The general public struggles with weight for lots of reasons, such as bad eating and inactivity. They want to know: Is it possible to get in shape? How is it possible? These stories help with that. THG : What’s your approach when meeting a new client? Holender : I give then a nutritional plan and I determine their energy expenditure. I always ask myself: How can I get their bodies in balance? For the most part, one’s body wants to remain as it is. My job is to push it someplace it doesn’t naturally want to go. THG : Is it difficult to motivate celebrities that aren’t used to being bossed around? Holender : It’s easier. Easier to motivate celebrities. Motivational factor in everyone. Most of these people have gotten to where they are in life through hard work. They know that’s expected of them with me, too, and don’t shy away from it. THG : Tell us about your upcoming Kendra workout DVD. Holender : It comes out in July and focuses on people, such as new mothers, that have been away from training for awhile. We try to make working out fun by incorporating five sports into the routines. It’s a 48-minute cardio workout that keeps the heart rate elevated at all times and burns calories. THG : Do you have any other projects in the works? Holender : Mel B. and I are coming out with an exercise product. Patent is pending, so I can’t reveal a lot about it. But it will target women’s booties. There will eventually be an accompanying DVD. THG : So, no Chris Harrison DVD then? Holender [laughs]: Funny you say that. He’s known as the host of The Bachelor and all that, but Chris is taping a talk show pilot soon and I’ll be hit fitness expert on it. He’s also a really good soccer player and one of the strongest people I train. We’d like to thank Holender for his time. You can visit nickyholender.com to find out more about this trainer. Now, go hit the gym, people!

Cheeseburger, Stat! Tori Spelling is Very Thin

In the latest issue of Life & Style , the tabloid reports that Kendra Wilkinson wants to squeeze out a new baby in order to make up for her leaked sex tape. Incredibly, this was NOT the most ridiculous item on that magazine’s cover. The publication also quotes Tori Spelling as saying: I’m not too thin . That’s hilarious, considering the photo that accompanies this story: “Last summer, she didn’t want to be photographed in a bathing suit,” a source told the tabloid. “Now she’s much happier with herself. She’s still very thin, but she’s not bony anymore.” We guess that’s true. But when you set the bar at Shenae Grimes -like levels, it’s easy to clear. Study the photo above and you tell us: Tori Spelling looks…

Lauren Conrad Dishes on BFFs, Hair Extensions

Who better than reality TV’s favorite BFF to cover the“Friendship” issue of Glamour ? Lauren Conrad does the honors, joined by friends Whitney Port and Lo Bosworth. “They’re my support system,” says Lauren, who went on to divulge a rarely acknowledged tidbit about her famously shiny, wavy hairstyle : “These are all extensions.” Gasp . “I chopped my hair off to my shoulders. I thought I was doing a chic bob. It was so bad,” says the chick lit novelist and designer, who also dishes on body image. “I’ve never felt a push to be stick thin,” the 24-year-old says. “I try my best to work out and eat healthy, so mostly it’s about being in shape and having energy.” A great support system like Whitney and Lo always helps – especially when you’re dealing with body issues every girl faces but living under a microscope, Lauren Conrad says . But even with all that work, the star has to accept her imperfections. “About a year ago, I looked down and thought, ‘I have cellulite. Where did that come from?’ I went through treatments; [my body] was like, It’s not going anywhere.’” While she left The Hills (click here for the final season trailer ), and is in the public eye a lot less, she seems healthier and happier than ever. Makes you think! Our gallery of Lauren Conrad pictures proves, you don’t have to dress scantily (cough, Kristin Cavallari) or get a ton of plastic surgery (cough, Heidi Montag) to be beautiful. It’s nice that young girls have a role model like this one.
