Our tournament begins March 14, but Coheed and Cambria are already gearing up for another championship. By James Montgomery Claudio Sanchez of Coheed and Cambria Photo: Jay West/ WireImage In 2010, Coheed and Cambria entered MTV’s Musical March Madness as an unheralded 15 seed and quickly rattled off a series of startling upsets — against #2 seed Paramore, #10 Mastodon, #6 Phish and #13 Alice in Chains — to advance to the final four, where they outlasted Tokio Hotel in an epochal (and, some might say, fishy) battle to reach the MMM championship game . And in that championship matchup, they outlasted a game My Chemical Romance to claim the MMM trophy .
Our 2011 tournament begins March 14, but Adele is ready to go — even if she doesn’t like sports. By James Montgomery Adele Photo: Jon Furniss/Getty Images Last year, when the selection committee was assembling the field of bands for our inaugural Musical March Madness tournament, British belter Adele was left out — an omission that, at the time, seemed somewhat forgivable, considering she was basically off the grid, holed up in Malibu to begin work on the songs that would shape her chart-topping 21 album . Of course, this year, it would be close to blasphemy not to include Adele in the field of 64 acts that will compete for the MMM trophy . Not only has she conquered the world with 21, but she worked with Rick Rubin on the record, and that dude most certainly rocks, which makes her a shoo-in for the 2011 tourney. But, as we learned Monday, Adele will face a tough road to the championship. Rock titans Linkin Park have already promised to bring “total dominance” to the 2011 MMM tournament — we’ll unveil our entire championship bracket Monday, March 14 — and, as it turns out, Adele doesn’t seem to know the first thing about college basketball, which is where this entire idea came from in the first place. “I don’t like sports!” she laughed. Still, she’s willing to give it a try. So we asked her: Just how has she been preparing to take down the likes of Linkin Park in the 2011 Musical March Madness tourney? “I’ve trained really hard,” she explained. “I’ve worked really hard this whole season, leading up to the release of this record.” Of course, she followed that boast up with an uncontrollable fit of laughter, but it bears mention that, with an armload of Grammys , a #1 album and fervent fanbase on both sides of the Atlantic, Adele definitely has a shot at shocking the world this year, especially since fans determine all the winners in our tournament. And, really, if she does manage to come out on top, can you imagine what her acceptance speech would be like? MTV’s 2011 Musical March Madness Tournament begins Monday, March 14, when we reveal the full field of 64 bands that will battle for the championship. Winners are determined by fan votes, so if your favorite act made the cut, it’ll be up to you to guide them to glory. You can rally the troops on Twitter using the hashtag #MMM … but get ready, it’s gonna be a war. Related Videos MTV’s Musical March Madness Is Back For 2011

It felt a little strange to see Jon Stewart so uncharacteristically serious on Monday’s edition of The Daily Show , but he was reporting on the horrible Arizona shooting tragedy…with the help of a correspondent in adult pajamas. Elsewhere in late night, Donald Glover showed off his Tracy Morgan impression, David Letterman let Snooki promote her new book, Winona Ryder discussed her irrational fear of the internet, and Jay Leno did his best snake.
Well, they all can’t be, “Do you believe in miracles?” Sports fan or not, you’re going to want to watch what happened at the end of the BCS Championship Game between Auburn and Oregon — which Auburn won on a last second field goal, 22-19 — if only because it might have featured the worst one-liner in the history of humanity. Seriously. Worse than even Arnold Schwarzzenger throwing a knife through a guy in Predator , and saying, ” Stick around .” The guilty party was Brent Musburger, the title sponsor of the game was Tostitos, and let’s just say this one will be remembered for all the wrong reasons. Click ahead for the carnage.
It’s safe to assume the dream bout between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao won’t be taking place any time soon. One of these boxers has a couple legal fights to deal with before he steps into the ring again. Mayweather, who is already facing a couple felony counts for allegedly punching his ex-girlfriend in the face, has now been charged with criminal battery in Nevada. It’s hard to say what Floyd Mayweather has more of: Championship belts or arrest warrants? This case stems from a November 15 incident , in which a private security guard Shayne Smith claims Mayweather went off on him after Smith placed parking citations on two of the athlete’s vehicles. Based on documents obtained by TMZ, Smith accuses Mayweather of screaming that the guard had “no f-cking business” touching his personal property. He then grabbed a parking tickets from one of his cars and slapped it on Smith’s patrol vehicle. “While lambasting Smith, Mayweather was allegedly jabbing his finger into the left side of Smith’s cheek just below his eye,” reads the charge. “This willful and unlawful use of force and violence upon Smith caused redness and discoloration to the area which was battered by Mayweather.” No response yet from Floyd’s reps, but Smith says he has photos the damage Mayweather allegedly inflicted on his cheek.
