The Office’s Jenna Fischer is no stranger to being in front of the camera, but headlining a major motion picture, as she does in A Little Help – in one of her first dramatic roles, no less – was an adjustment for the actress. The role of a train-wrecked wife and mother was markedly different from Pam Beesly, and did come naturally, Jenna tells our partner site, Movie Fanatic. “This character was the biggest departure from my actual personality than anyone I’ve ever played before, so that was a challenge,” Fischer explains. “Marc and Jennifer decided it#39;s best to go their separate ways for the sake of their two kids,” the source says. But after news broke Friday that the power couple were ending their marriage, a source close to the family tells us that Anthony, 42, and Lopez, 41, who have two children, 3-year-old twins Max and Emme, together, split “after months of nonstop arguing.” One of the last times they were in the public eye together, Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony were sharing the stage – and a passi
‘He’s a great guy to be quarterbacking this thing,’ the ‘Captain America’ star tells MTV News. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Chris Evans Photo: MTV News Although most of our Marvel Comics-related movie excitement these days is pegged to the impending release of “Captain America: The First Avenger,” we can’t help but already get excited for next year’s highly anticipated, superhero-filled “The Avengers.” When MTV News caught up with Cap himself, Chris Evans , during our “MTV First: Captain America” interview Thursday, we asked for his thoughts on working with fan-favorite “Avengers” director Joss Whedon. “He’s unbelievable,” Evans said. “He’s so clever. He lives in the world of comic books, so he has in his head an amazing story already mapped out. When it comes to directing actors and understanding dialogue, he’s an incredibly talented writer. If something isn’t working for you as an actor within the words, he can walk away for 10 minutes and come back with seven options that are all fantastic and clever and witty and it’s got a pace and a banter,” he explained. “He’s a great guy to be quarterbacking this thing.” With regard to Captain America’s story line in “The Avengers,” the details of which Evans couldn’t fully divulge but are briefly teased at the end of “Captain America,” he said his character is basically a fish out of water trying to understand the modern world around him. “It’s really multifaceted. The guy has to accept the fact that everyone he knew and loved is gone,” Evans said of his character’s new arc. “Not only is he alone, [but] the world has changed so much, and I think a big part of what makes Cap Cap was his connection to the way things used to be, this kind of pro-American morality and good-ol’-boy sense of life and the way of doing things,” he added. “In the modern era, there’s a bit of a disconnect. There’s not as much human interaction. I think there’s more cynicism than there was back then, so it’s him trying to come to terms with the way things are.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Captain America: The First Avenger.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com . ‘It’s a vote for ambiguity,’ Alan Rickman says at ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2’ premiere. By Kara Warner Alan Rickman Photo: MTV News After 7.4 million votes cast and over three weeks of intense, head-to-head wizard combat action in MTV’s “Harry Potter” World Cup, conflicted, calculating and beloved antihero Severus Snape has emerged a champion. It is an impressive feat indeed, with Snape having overcome heavy hitters and fan favorites Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger and Harry Potter himself. MTV News was lucky enough to present the fancy World Cup trophy to Alan Rickman, the man responsible for bringing life and suspense to the complex character, at Monday’s New York premiere of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2.” “You’re lying, aren’t you?” Rickman said upon learning the news of Snape’s victory. “I gotta get this on the plane tomorrow?” he joked. “Well, thank you, and it doesn’t weigh nothing,” he added, commenting on the prize’s weight. “Is it chocolate, I hope? Thank you very much.” When asked what the victory means to him, Rickman took it seriously and further thanked the character’s fans for recognizing the many aspects of Snape’s magical journey. “It’s a vote for ambiguity and things where you don’t quite know how they’re going to turn out,” he said of Snape’s is-he-evil-or-good story line. “And also, it’s [Snape’s] values that you can’t talk about without ruining the film, but things like courage and determination and loyalty and love, actually.” “Thank you,” Rickman reiterated before heading into the premiere. “I appreciate it; that’s an American thing.” Rupert Grint, whose Ron Weasley was our second-place finisher, was not surprised to learn that Snape triumphed over his character. In fact, he had predicted it. “I knew it,” he said with a smile when we broke the news to him. “It’s the right choice,” he admitted. Before signing up for Cameron Diaz’s class, study up with our fun facts. By Eric Ditzian Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake in “Bad Teacher” Photo: Sony It’s been more than a month since “Bridesmaids” slayed us at the cinema. We’re desperately in need of some hard-R laughs, a few gross-out moments that make us cringe, and the reminder that as crazy as we might be, we’re not nearly as loco as the folks we’re watching onscreen. Thus, we say thanks to “Bad Teacher” as it floats, on a comedic cloud of profanity and penis jokes, into theaters. Cameron Diaz stars as Elizabeth Halsey, an educator less concerned with math lessons than she is in smoking pot and calculating her way into marriage with any filthy-rich doofus. She meets the perfect mark in Justin Timberlake’s Scott Delacorte, a substitute teacher and a guy so freaking nice there’s got be something wrong with him. And then we have Jason Segel’s sly gym teacher; even though he’s got the hots for Halsey, his paycheck doesn’t have nearly enough digits to entice the leggy blonde. But all this is just the setup. The punch comes in a series of outlandish events that, if we were to reveal them here, would just spoil the fun. What we can do is tell you everything you need to know about “Bad Teacher” before hitting the multiplex this weekend. That’s where our cheat sheet comes into play. Getting Ready for Class News of the film, penned by “Office” scribes Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, broke in December of 2009. Diaz had signed on , but the rest of the cast had yet to be filled out. That changed a few months later, when Timberlake and Segel hopped aboard . Though Diaz had formerly dated JT, the actress had no qualms about stepping in front of the camera with him. “He’s the best person for the job. He’s going to be hilarious,” she said. “He’s clearly a very talented comedian; look at his ‘Saturday Night Live’ [skits]. He’s fantastic. He’s going to be so great.” School’s in Session Filming kicked off in March. Nearly a year later, a truly filthy red-band trailer popped up online, giving us a very clear idea of how truly terrible a teacher Diaz would be: “Are you f—ing kidding me?” she writes on a student’s test. While the comedy’s raunchiness was no surprise, Timberlake’s weirdo of a sub certainly was. As Diaz later explained to us , “He gives us a character that you have not seen yet before — not just him, but pretty much anyone. It’s just a very interesting character and a lot of fun to watch. By the end of it, you’re like, ‘What is up with that dude?’ It’s hilarious.” The Final Exam As part of our Summer Movie Preview Week, we debuted an exclusive photo of Diaz getting ready for a fundraising car wash unlike any that you might recall from your school days and also sat down for a chat with the woman herself. “She’s miserable. She’s not happy with her world, and she doesn’t pretend that she is,” Diaz said of her character. “Her pain is real. She’s living a very painful existence, so there’s no humor to her in this.” Sure, she’s a woman in pain. But there’s also something liberating about the way she just doesn’t give a hoot about anything. “I think that’s why people love Elizabeth,” Diaz told us at the film’s premiere in New York City. “It’s because everyone wants to be her, even for an hour, maybe a day. If you get away with a week — oh my gosh! I got to play her for six weeks. So yeah, it was a lot of fun.” “The first 30 pages, I’m like, ‘I am not playing this. There is no way I can play this character. There [are] no redeeming qualities to this character,’ ” she recalled of the script in an earlier chat. “And by the end of it, I’m like, ‘Oh my God, this is genius! There’s no redeeming qualities to this character!’ We got to the end of the script, and we’re not apologizing for anything she said. It’s a very modest arc.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Bad Teacher.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . ‘People focus on me so much instead of the whole OF collective,’ Tyler tells MTV News of buzzworthy Hodgy Beats and Left Brain. By Steven Roberts, with reporting by Matt Elias Odd Future’s Hodgy Beats and Tyler The Creator Photo: Tim Mosenfelder/ Getty Images Odd Future ‘s MellowHype may seem to have gotten lost in Tyler, the Creator’s shadow, but the rapper/producer duo of Hodgy Beats and Left Brain are still making a name for themselves. The duo released the Matt Alonzo-directed music video for “64” on Monday at midnight through the OF collective’s website . The song serves as the first single the Fat Possum Records re-release of MellowHype’s BlackenedWhite album, which drops on July 12. MellowHype first performed “64” on Fuel TV’s “Daily Habit” with labelmates Bass Drum of Death, and it has since become a fan favorite at OF shows. When MTV News caught up with Odd Future’s de facto leader, Tyler, the Creator , he said he was sure Hodgy and Left Brain could carry the OF momentum. “I know they can, it’s just that people focus on me so much instead of the whole OF collective. If they look deeper, they’ll find way more stuff,” Tyler said. “I want them to get their shine and stuff. I want to make sure that everyone knows the whole circle instead of just R. Kelly.” Tyler also said he wasn’t really thinking about the numbers for his recently released second album. Goblin debuted at #5 on the Billboard album chart, selling more than 45,000 copies in its first week, and Tyler couldn’t be less concerned one way or another. “I think it’s cool. I’m a kid who just made f—ing music out of boredom and made it to #5 [on the charts]. They’ll never be able to do what I did or what I can do. They could never play instruments or start a cult of kids and sell those records. They just sit and talk about it, so I don’t really care. And I’m R. Kelly.” What do you think of Odd Future’s MellowHype? Let us know in the comments! ‘We thought we could bring the party — even if it was a fictional party,’ Taylor Hanson tells MTV News of video cameo. By Jocelyn Vena Hanson Photo: Getty Images Katy Perry rounded up quite the cast of cameos for her “Last Friday Night” video . The Marc Klasfeld-directed clip featured “Glee” stars Darren Criss and Kevin McHale, “Friday” singer Rebecca Black, Kenny G, Debbie Gibson and Corey Feldman. Oh, yeah: It also had Hanson as the video’s house band! “We were flattered to be asked, and it was great to be a part of it,” Taylor Hanson told MTV News on Tuesday (June 14). “We had a really good time. It was one of those things that worked out really well. They said [they] needed a band to play the party, and we thought we could bring the party — even if it was a fictional party. “First of all, Kenny G’s an icon, so it was pretty awesome to, in some ways, have been able to perform together,” Taylor continued. “And, again, there’s a little bit of the tongue-in-cheek element to the entire concept of the video. We went in there without taking it too seriously. [Kenny G] was a scholar and gentleman, and it seemed like Katy was fulfilling the idea. She seemed like she was pretty happy with how things were coming together.” Taylor said it was hard to get Perry out of character as the geeky Kathy Beth Terry on set. “She was completely in character and to the point of like, ‘OK, where does Katy Perry begin and this character end?’ ” he recalled. “And, honestly, it seemed like she kind of is a Method person. She seems like she goes in all the way. So we hung out a little bit, and during the performance and everything, obviously, we were all there on set, but she was definitely inside of the character throughout the shoot, which sounds tiring to me.” So what would it take to get the guys to play your house party? “We work for Twizzlers and good times,” Taylor said. “You’d have to have a lot of spandex, a huge tree covered in toilet paper, Kenny G — apparently that’s what it takes to get us to a house party.” And now Katy owes the brothers a cameo in their next video. “I think she has some obligation to spread the love on the next round,” he said. “I don’t know. … We might have to come up with another character.” What did you think of Hanson’s cameo in Katy’s new video?
