Russell Brand Talks Revisiting Addiction In ‘Get Him To The Greek’

‘It’s not worth it,’ he tells MTV News of using drugs and alcohol again. ‘Not for me.’ By Josh Wigler, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Russell Brand Photo: MTV News Russell Brand is bound to bring the laughs when he reprises his role as rock star Aldous Snow in “Get Him to the Greek,” but there’s one major disparity between the comedian and his character: While Snow regularly indulges in promiscuous sex and drug-abusing behavior, Brand has kept his distance from that kind of lifestyle since abandoning drugs and alcohol several years ago. Still, Brand’s experience as an addict proved helpful in crafting the character of Snow, as the actor told MTV News that it provided some authenticity to his performance in “Get Him to the Greek.” “Say that when you were a child, there was a time where someone stood in front of you and strangled a kitten, then you had to do a film in which there’s a scene where somebody strangles a kitten. You’d definitely remember the childhood time when that kitten-strangling happened, which would make you more authentic in the film,” he explained. “But when you go home, you’ll say, ‘Oh, that poor kitten.’ [Playing Snow] was a bit like that, except there were no kittens strangled in the making of this film. Well, there was one.” Brand said that his character’s closeness to drug culture never tempted the actor himself into relapsing: “I don’t take relapsing very seriously as a possibility in terms of thinking of it as ‘Must not relapse. Must not relapse.’ But it reminded me, ‘Don’t do drugs.’ It’s not worth it. Not for me.” That’s not to say Brand isn’t without his vices, of course. “Every day, nine times, I watch ‘Finding Nemo,’ ” he laughed. “Is that a problem? I love that little guy. He’s got that tiny fin! It makes me happy.” Don’t miss the live red-carpet coverage, exclusive movie clips and fist-pumping action on MTV News’ “Jersey Shore Blow-Out at the MTV Movie Awards,” airing live from Los Angeles this Sunday, June 6, at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Donald Glover’s ‘Spider-Man’ Campaign: What Do You Think?

We headed to Times Square to see what moviegoers have to say about the ‘Community’ actor playing Peter Parker. By Rick Marshall Donald Glover Photo: Jason LaVeris/ FilmMagic Earlier this week, a fan campaign to cast “Community” actor Donald Glover as the star of the upcoming “Spider-Man” movie had the online world buzzing, with creators and fans alike weighing in on the idea of casting an African-American actor as the new Peter Parker. Earlier Wednesday (June 2), MTV News spoke to comic book historian Alan Kistler to get his take on the heated debate raging around the Twitterverse — a discussion that became one of the hottest topics on Twitter this weekend and resulted in a Facebook fan group more than 8,000 members strong at last count. “There is nothing in the comic or the origin of the character that has to do with what ethnicity [Peter Parker] is, the color of his skin or his background,” Kistler told MTV’s Splash Page. While the noted historian of all things superhero went on to offer further analysis of why an African-American actor playing the famous Marvel Comics character isn’t so unbelievable, we went to the streets to get your take on the possibility of Glover playing Spider-Man. In Times Square, opinions varied on whether the actor was a good fit for the role. Some hoped he’d find a way into the running for the role, which was recently rumored to be down to five actors — all white. Reactions to the “Community” actor’s campaign for the role ranged from “really cool,” to one fan anticipating mixed feelings about giving Peter Parker a new look in the movie world. “Some people might get mad because they’re changing the character, and then some people might not because it’s different, something new,” Joey Warren said. However, not everyone was buying the idea of giving Spider-Man a race-bending makeover. “I’m not sure if that’s a good look,” Christian Crawford told MTV News. “I don’t think that’s going to be a good look.” What do you think about casting Donald Glover or another black actor as Peter Parker? A Jazzy Wedding for Glee’s Jane Lynch

Jane Lynch married Lara Embry Monday in Massachusetts (PEOPLE.com) — It looks like Jane Lynch has something to be extra Gleeful about. Although the actress hasn't made an official announcement, the Blue Heron restaurant in Sunderland, Massachusetts, reports that Lynch, 49, married psychologist Lara Embry in a small ceremony on Memorial Day. “There were no celebrities or recognizable faces there,” restaurant co-owner Deborah Snow tells PEOPLE. “Lara's daughter was there, along with close, close friends of the couple. It was small, warm, intimate and very sweet. You could feel the love and friendship amongst the group.” After Monday's ceremony, in which a friend of Lynch's thanked the State of Massachusetts for being welcoming to gay and lesbian couples, the newlyweds and their 19 guests enjoyed a reception featuring a four-piece jazz combo. Hors d'oeuvres included oysters, lobster triangles, Japanese crab salad, seared scallop with apple reduction and artichoke fritters with lemon aioli. For the main course: beet salad, striped bass with lemon buerre blanc, truffle mushroom salad, pan-seared breast of duck with duck confit, and herb salad. The reception concluded around 10 p.m. with cheese plates and a house-made cake filled with chocolate mousse, vanilla butter cream and fresh strawberries. Lynch and Embry have been engaged since November. Showing a soft spot not often exhibited by her character Sue Sylvester, Lynch gushed to PEOPLE earlier this year: “It's just the greatest thrill in the world to find somebody that you want to be with every day.” added by: EthicalVegan

Katherine Heigl Feels ‘Horrible’ For Missing ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Finale

‘I really miss that relationship,’ she tells MTV News of onscreen romance with Justin Chambers. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Katherine Heigl Photo: MTV News Earlier this year, Katherine Heigl’s departure from “Grey’s Anatomy” caused quite a stir. The rumor mill was rife with gossip regarding the actress’s diva-like demands on set, months before her departure (Heigl’s last appearance as Izzy was January 21). But now that Heigl has officially left the program to focus on being a mom to her adopted daughter, she has gone to great lengths to right any wrongs (i.e. the recent Entertainment Weekly cover story titled “I’m Sorry”). MTV News recently caught up with the actress (while chatting about her upcoming romantic comedy “Killers”) and discovered that the 31-year-old has nothing but warm feelings for her onetime castmates. And because Heigl had not yet seen the complicated medical drama’s season finale, our own Josh Horowitz attempted — via a “creative interpretation” courtesy of Wikipedia — to summarize the detailed plot and bring the actress up to speed so she could comment. Midway through Josh’s delivery of the details, Heigl interrupted when he mentioned that a main character was pregnant. “I’m sorry, wait,” Heigl said and held up a hand to stop the recap for a moment. “A pregnant who? Meredith is pregnant?” she said, totally surprised. “You’ve made me feel horrible [for not watching yet]. “I’m going to have to watch this now. I have to see [Alex] call for [Izzy] and her never come. … I really miss that relationship,” Heigl said of her former onscreen romance with Alex (played by Justin Chambers). “Justin Chambers is one of the most amazing men and certainly a spectacular actor. I feel oddly attached to him and the character and my character being together. It just seems what’s supposed to be, but you can’t have it all.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Killers.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . REVIEW: Father of My Children Brims With Daring and Confidence

A bisected portrait of two families — one small and thriving, one sprawling and dysfunctional — both headed by the same, charming man, The Father of My Children examines the shipwreck of suicide and the grief of those left stranded in its wake. Writer and director Mia Hansen-Løve based the character of Grégoire (Louis-Do de Lencquesaing) on French independent film producer Humbert Balsan, with whom she was briefly acquainted before he committed suicide in 2005. A champion of her first film, All Is Forgiven , the paradox Balsan’s death presented — how could one so artistically vital and outwardly charismatic succumb to self-destruction? — inspired the 29-year-old director’s second, remarkable effort.

Dominic Cooper to Grow Into John Slattery for Captain America

Whether he’s hitting up Carrie Bradshaw for water sports or hitting on secretaries in the world of Man Men , it kind of seems like John Slattery has always been a silver fox — so much so that when it came time for Captain America to cast a young version of Howard Stark, I might have expected Slattery to simply reprise his Iron Man 2 cameo as the character and go rocking the white hair even into Howard’s twenties. Alas!

The battle of the "awkward teenager" actor has begun!

http://www.newsweek.com/id/238281 Well, you know the typical actor. The quite awkward teenager that has a hard time talking to girls or saying anything to anyone for that matter. So you need someone find someone to play that part in a production? “Who you gonna call?!” Jesse Eisenberg or Michael Cera? Well for most of us we had our first taste of this type of acting when we watched young George Michael on Arrested Development. Later after that, Michael Cera continued this in many other movies like Juno, Super Bad, Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist, and in August the blockbuster Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. Also something to add, the character that Cera plays in “SPTW” is much different than the other roles that Cera has done in the past. Soon though a contender came into the ring. It started in Jesse Eisenberg played in Fierce People, then leading to more roles in films like Adventureland, Zombieland, The Education of Charlie Banks, and Holy Rollers. Now the question is which one is the leading man in awkward adolescence? Well there are many factors to think about. Which one has more corky charm? Which one is more identifiable with? Just who wins me over in my book? I would have to say Michael is the winner! He's got perfect timing when the mood calls for it. He seems to have that sweet kindness that's kind of a turn on. Jesse Eisenberg just comes off as generic and kind of a prick. So all in all that's where I stand, the facts are all there. But question is now turned to you: Jesse or Michael? http://www.newsweek.com/id/238281 added by: a_roxanne
