‘Fringe’ Finale Is A ‘Tug-Of-War Between Two Universes,’ Stars Say

‘You have to watch the last five minutes … and that will tell you a lot,’ Joshua Jackson says of the episode. By Jocelyn Vena Fans are eagerly anticipating the season finale of “Fringe” on Thursday night (May 20). With a rift in the Bishop clan, the entire crew trying to save the world from an alternate dimension and the possibility that Peter is the key to the end of the world, anything is possible. John Noble and Joshua Jackson, who play the Bishop father/son combo, said the show’s final few minutes will really leave fans shocked. “You have to watch the last five minutes … and that will tell you a lot,” Jackson revealed earlier this week to MTV News. Noble said that even he isn’t sure if Peter (Jackson) is the key to saving or destroying the universes. “It’s only Walter surmising that that’s the case, so science, as we know it now, would suggest that unless we do something rapidly, it could happen,” he said. “But it won’t happen, because we have a story to tell, and being very inventive people, we will find a way to get past that problem. “The interesting thing about ‘Fringe’ is, the only character that doesn’t change is Peter,” he continued. “Peter is the constant, and this season we’ve been talking about Peter a lot. … It’s all been building. When Walter said in the last episode [that Peter] could be responsible for the end of the world, it’s actually about Peter. So we have this tug-of-war between two universes for this character, and I play both dads.” Fans, however, wonder when the rift between the Bishop men will eventually mend. “Isn’t that the foundation of a good story? Isn’t the whole point that they never get to the end of the story until the show is off the air? But that’s what family is too,” Jackson said. “We were making progress. We become closer together. Circumstances, like being from an alternate universe, come and tear you apart and then slowly repair.” What do you think will happen on the “Fringe” season finale? ‘Lost’ Star Says Series Hurtling ‘Full Throttle Toward Resolution’

‘Ben finds notes of tenderness in his life,’ Michael Emerson says of his character in penultimate episode airing tonight. By Josh Wigler Michael Emerson Photo: MTV News Benjamin Linus is many things: a liar, a manipulator, a mass-murderer and, most recently, a pawn. What he isn’t, however, is lucky in romance. But that’s all about to change on tonight’s penultimate episode of “Lost,” titled “What They Died For.” Speaking with MTV News, actor Michael Emerson revealed that his character, Ben, the onetime leader of the mysterious Others, will finally have some chance at love on “Lost” — in his flash-sideways life, that is. “I guess there might be [romance], yeah,” he told us when asked about rumors of a romantic interest for Ben’s sideways counterpart. “You could take it that way. Teacher Ben finds, at long last, notes of tenderness in his life.” Emerson admitted that love has been “tough for Island Ben — he doesn’t have that. But why shouldn’t Teacher Ben? Maybe that’s one of the morals of the flash-sideways: that [a] quieter life does sometimes allow for kinds of sweetness that are unavailable when you’re chasing the big game on the Island.” Speaking of chasing big game on the Island, Emerson promised that tonight’s episode gets back into the thick of the end game, following last week’s divisive and mythology-heavy episode, “Across the Sea.” Emerson teased: “This is full throttle, main line ‘Lost’ island mythology . We’re hurtling towards a resolution. It’s strong.” Fans who’ve noticed Ben’s absence in recent episodes will be happy to hear he’s back in the spotlight in tonight’s outing. The actor himself acknowledges that Ben has plenty of issues to resolve before the series concludes on Sunday. In fact, Emerson promised resolution on two issues: Ben’s relationship with Locke (“Yes, that’s by no means finished,” he said) and his rivalry with Charles Widmore. “Oh yes, those characters will meet again,” Emerson cryptically revealed of Ben and Widmore’s shared future, one that might not be revealed until “The End.” Are you excited for these last two episodes of “Lost”? Stephen Colbert on D&D

…….hey buddy,….everyone went through the “rat problem” phase. In the spring of 1976 I was in seventh grade. I had been reading science fiction for two years and had just started bleeding over into fantasy. One day at lunch I overheard my friend Keith saying, “I listened at the door, and I didn't hear anything, so I went inside and got attacked by a giant rat!” I said, “What do you mean, you listened at the door? What are you talking about?” They said, “Well, it's kind of hard to explain, but in this game called Dungeons & Dragons there's a probability that you'll hear something through a door, and my character's a thief so he can hear better. The game just came out. Come over Friday and we'll play.” I did and was instantly hooked. A whole new kind of game. No board — just dice, just probabilities. It allowed me to enter the world of the books I was reading. I put more effort into that game than I ever did into my schoolwork. We were all complete outcasts in school — beyond the fringe, beyond nerds. We were our own sub-dimensional bubble of the school. I'm not even sure we were on the rolls of any of the classes; that's how outcast we were. D&D made quite a little explosion when it first came out. We were close to the Bible Belt, and ministers were preaching on TV against it, saying that it was a cult,….. to be continued,…after these dots…………….. http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/dungeons-dragons-online/537989p1.html added by: remanns

JORDAN has hired 24-hour guards to protect her new home after burglars tried breaking in.

The glamour girl — real name KATIE PRICE — was on holiday with hubby PETER ANDRE and their three kids in Cyprus at the time. Neighbours spotted the prowlers at the castle-like pad in Warlingham, Surrey. Katie, 30 — who moved from nearby Ockley after a string of bad luck — said: “People have been trying to break in so we’ve got 24-hour guards. There were people in the bushes and all sorts.” Source: thesun.co.uk CREDIT: thestarblogger.com

‘District 9’ Star Says Sequel Should Come ‘Eventually’

‘It’s really coming down to a timing issue,’ Sharlto Copley says of plans for a second movie. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Wigler “District 9” Photo: Sony Pictures Given its $115 million box-office success, positive critical reception and overwhelming audience enthusiasm, it’s fairly safe to assume a “District 9” sequel will go into production in the next few years. And when MTV News recently caught up with the film’s breakout star, Sharlto Copley, he told us he and director Neill Blomkamp have definitely discussed a second visit to the District. “Neill has said several times that he wants to do another one. It’s really coming down to a timing issue,” Copley explained. “I think eventually, what Neill wants to do — I’m doing films now as an actor — when Neill commits to something he obviously commits for a significant period of time. At the end of the day, it’ll be up to when Neill wants to do it, but I know he wants to. I would love to go back to the world and the character. I really enjoyed the character.” Copley says that as far as what his character might be up to in a sequel, one thing he’d like for Wikus is to remain on Earth, versus having the film set on another planet. “I would definitely want to keep it grounded on Earth. I definitely have more interest, personally, in work that feels a little bit grounded,” he offered. “It’s work that’s easier for me to relate to. I think that was the edge with ‘District 9,’ the world of Johannesburg and the world of South Africa. I would hope that it would stay there. But you never know with Neill — he really is a genius! If he came up with a good way to put it in another planet, I’d be interested! I’d be there in a second.” Finally, we asked Copley for his take on the much-discussed, did-he-or-didn’t-he-turn-into-a-prawn moment at the end of “District 9.” “You see, this is the interesting thing — everybody just buys that! This is what I’m loving,” he laughed. “Everybody is always like, ‘That’s you at the end, right? That’s you! That’s you!’ I’ll just leave it there! If you’re convinced, then you’re convinced!” So we suggested that frame one of the sequel should be Wikus popping up behind the Prawn’s shoulder … to which Copley laughed in our face. “Right, like knocking his head off with a bat! No, I can’t say,” he insisted. “I can’t say.” Check out everything we’ve got on “District 9.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Ridley Scott Didn’t Treat Robin Hood Like A ‘Myth’

‘I really believe he existed,’ director says of Russell Crowe’s character. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Todd Gilchrist Ridley Scott Photo: MTV News Between Monty Python’s send-up, Kevin Costner’s heartthrob-centric take and Mel Brooks’ farce, the mythic character of Robin Hood hasn’t fared very well in pop culture these last few decades. Ridley Scott isn’t a fan of such depictions either, which is why he was dead-set on reinventing the character for a 21st-century audience in his upcoming “Robin Hood.” “I never liked the green tights,” he told MTV News. “I didn’t like the feather in the hat. It didn’t work for me. Even as a kid, it was not my idea of Robin Hood.” His of idea of Robin Hood, rather, has more in common with the main character of “Gladiator,” a sharp-witted, tough-minded badass who knows how to handle his weaponry. No surprise there, as Scott directed that Oscar-winning flick and recruited star Russell Crowe to play the title role in “Robin Hood” (out Friday). They both knew exactly the approach they wanted to take, and it had nothing to do with Costner’s 1991 version of the folkloric hero. “Kevin Costner’s was fun, leaning more heavily on the clowning of Robin Hood,” Scott explained. “On this one, I wanted to go more real, because I really believe he existed. The ones to date always treated Robin Hood like a myth, part of a fairy story.” Scott and his screenwriters sought to ground the story in verifiable history, choosing to spin a plotline that began in the late 12th century and then proceeded through a time when the English kingdom was bankrupt and reeling from the reign of a king who became known as Bad King John. Once they plopped Robin Hood into the center of social and economic upheaval, the story gained an air of truthfulness and gravity missing from other imaginings of the character. It also gained an Oscar-winning actor as its lead. “I just wouldn’t have done it if it were a conventional take,” Crowe told us. “There’s no need for anyone in the world to see that series of clich

Real Housewives of New York Reality Check: How to Know Your Psychic’s a Fake

Last week on the Real Housewives of New York City , Ramona’s eyeballs actually jumped out of their sockets Mask -style, and Jill got a contact high off of LuAnn’s condescension. But the tone of last night’s episode, “Stay On Message,” was far more serious. A tabloid leaked Bethenny’s pregnancy and she spent the rest of the episode depressed in bed and full makeup. Bobby schvitzed through a cable-access interview. Kelly wore even shorter shorts than last week. And Sonja empowered viewers by telling them they are never too old for designer knee-high boots. In short, the episode was inspiring and educational. After the jump, Movieline sifts the through Tru Renewal plugs and scam psychics to find the truest and fakest moments.
