Jennifer Lopez Causes Man Frenzy In ‘Papi’ Video

Paul Hunter-directed clip finds the singer in the middle of love-struck street riot, where men from all walks of life chase after her. By James Dinh Jennifer Lopez on the set of her new music video “Papi” Photo: Photo by Miguel Aguilar/Pacific Coast News If Jennifer Lopez wanted to make a post-breakup statement about her alluring charm, she sure succeeded with the “Papi,” video which debuted in its entirety on Monday (September 19). Directed by Paul Hunter, J.Lo’s just-dropped visual shows a chaotic frenzy-turned-chase, wherein the pop star attracts the attention of hoards of men as she strolls down a city street. Lopez begins the five-minute clip by chatting it up with her apartment mail attendant Lisa, confessing that her Army lover has not returned back to her. Lisa offers the singer a cookie that she claims will make “your love come back.” Unfortunately, Jenny from the Block takes a chunk out of the cookie instead of a “small bite,” marking the beginning of the captivating spell she unwittingly casts on every man she passes by. The magic takes 24 hours to take effect as Lopez embarks on a walk the following day and realizes her sudden irresistible allure. Lopez’s charm isn’t restricted to any particular type of “papi” as she draws notice from a corporate businessman, a gardener and even a high-flying motorcyclist. Upon entering her car, her admirers become more and more aggressive and chase her down the street. Just like many of her clips, “Papi” offers some comical choreography when the entertainer realizes that her league of men move in synch with her, offering her a way to escape. Cue the video’s dance break. But Lopez’s tactic doesn’t last for long as the men grab hold of her until her uniform-clad lover walks off a bus and reunites with the pop star. “The craziest thing happened,” Lopez says in an attempt to explain the fiasco to her lover. Hunter and Lopez have previously worked together on a number of videos, including “If You Had My Love,” “Feelin’ So Good” and “Love Don’t Cost a Thing.” “Papi” was produced by hit-maker RedOne and serves as the third single off J.Lo’s comeback album Love? In the clip for her previous single, “I’m Into You,” the pop singer hinted about the release of the club-ready track with another mid-video dance break. Earlier this month, Lopez explained the inspiration behind the song when she called into “On-Air With Ryan Seacrest.” “I was working in the studio with RedOne and his guys, and at the time, I was always kind of like, I always use the word ‘papi,’ ” she recalled. “And they were like, ‘We’re going to write a song called ‘Papi,’ and we just wrote the song about loving somebody and just celebrating that.” Lopez is expected to make her debut performance of the dance track at the iHeartRadio Festival, which will also feature sets from Lady Gaga, Coldplay, Jay-Z and many others, later this month. Todd Palin Slams Joe McGinniss’ Book, Neglects to Mention Awesome Glen Rice Rumor

Sarah Palin’s husband, Todd, denounced Joe McGinniss’ new book about Alaska’s most famous family as “disgusting lies, innuendo and smears” in a statement. The former governor’s camp is looking to discredit the biography – a racy, detailed, provocative tell-all, even as Palin gossip goes – which is due out next week. Todd Palin slammed The Rogue: Searching for the Real Sarah Palin , specifically denying that his business partner Brad Hanson had an affair with his wife. The part about Glen Rice nailing Sarah Palin , sadly, went unmentioned by Todd. Mo Money: Katherine Jackson And MJ’s Kids Are About To Do A $30 Million Rain Dance!!

Must be nice… According to TMZ reports : A huge development in the Michael Jackson Estate case. The Executors have done so well making money for the Estate since Jackson died, they want to fund the Michael Jackson Trust to the tune of $30 million for the benefit of Katherine Jackson and Michael’s 3 kids. TMZ has obtained court documents in which co-Executors John Branca and John McClain are asking the court’s permission to fund the trust. According to the docs, the Estate generated more than $310 million in gross revenues as of December 31, 2010 — that’s the latest accounting. In addition to funding the trust, the Executors are asking the court’s permission to sell the longtime family home on Hayvenhurst Avenue in Encino, CA. According to the docs, Katherine wants to sell the house and, although no price is mentioned, the property was valued at $4,150,000 when Michael died. The docs say Katherine wants the Estate to purchase another home and she’s eying several properties, but we’re told the home she really wants is the Calabasas house in which she and the kids are currently living. There was $310 million made and you only want to shoot them 30?? We know MJ had debts and $30 mill is no small chunk of change, but get that number up a lil bit playa…

Making It Rain On Them Unemployed Singers & Recovering Addicts: Jordin Sparks To Star Alongside Whitney Houston In “Sparkle” Remake

Uh oh! Looks like someone put Nippy on the comeback trail and set Jordin Sparks on that J. Hud career track. via Variety.com Sony Pictures is rounding up a sparkling cast for its remake of the 1976 music-themed pic “Sparkle”: Whitney Houston is in negotiations to join “American Idol” winner Jordin Sparks and Mike Epps in the film, which Salim Akil is directing from a script by Mara Brock Akil. Debra Martin Chase, TD Jakes and Curtis Wallace are producing along with the Akils, while Houston will exec produce with Howard Rosenman and Gaylyn Fraiche. TriStar Pictures will distribute the film in association with Stage 6 Films. Production is skedded to start next month. Original pic followed three sisters who begin singing in their church choir in Harlem in the late 1950s and go on to become a successful girl group. Their sudden rise unravels their personal lives. Remake will be set in 1968 Detroit during the rise of Motown. Story will focus on the youngest sister, a music prodigy named Sparkle (Sparks), and her struggle to become a star while overcoming issues that are tearing her family apart. “Sparkle” will mark Houston’s first starring film role in 15 years; she last toplined Penny Marshall’s 1996 pic “The Preacher’s Wife.” The Grammy-winning recording artist previously starred in “Waiting to Exhale and “The Bodyguard.” Project reunites director Akil with Epps, who starred in the helmer’s wedding pic “Jumping the Broom.” That pic grossed more than $37 million domestically earlier this year. Epps, best known for his comedic turns in “The Hangover” and “The Honeymooners,” has been showcasing his dramatic chops of late: He recently wrapped the indie thriller “Vipaka,” which stars Forest Whitaker and Anthony Mackie. Epps’ next gig is hosting this year’s BET Hip-Hop Awards. Let’s just hope Nippy can stay off the sauce long enough to make this happen. Oh, and that Mike Epps doesn’t pull a “ Katt Williams ” on us from being around all these rappers…

Brite Futures Go Shopping, Ask Justin Bieber To Prom

Indie band takes MTV News on a post-Bumbershoot vintage-shopping spree in Seattle. By Matt Elias David Price of Brite Futures Photo: MTV News SEATTLE — On a sunny Sunday morning, local band Brite Futures stood outside of the Fremont Vintage Mall, still riding high from playing the main stage at the Bumbershoot Music and Arts Festival the previous day. Despite a late night of celebrating, BF graciously invited MTV News to check out one of their favorite hometown haunts. “We’re here at the Fremont Vintage Mall,” singer Shaun Libman explained. “This is a place with a lot of crazy stuff, and we always find something weird and cool here.” Thus, we went into the kitschy vintage store with three-fifths of the band. As for the other two members, singer/guitarist Luke Smith told us, “One actually has a real job. I shouldn’t say that, but he’s working at a cafe right now. And the other is our drummer, and he just floats around and we never really know where he is.” Inside the store, an eclectic blend of choice records, vintage threads and everything in between (like a velvet Elvis painting) is laid out on two levels. The band quickly took to a set of ’90s neon Looney Tunes caps, which, if you think about it, perfectly sum up the synth-happy indie-rock band: bright, fun and electric. Moving on, Libman spotted a faux-snakeskin trench coat. “Everybody has to have one snakeskin jacket in their repertoire,” Libman declared. “If anybody can pull that off, Luke Smith can.” Without hesitation, Smith threw on the coat and posed for our camera. Once he found his choice, the other members went on the hunt for their personal picks. After sifting through some records, singer and multi-instrumentalist Claire England saw a totally rad ’80s gold gown. “This is my prom dress,” England said. “Who’s your prom date?” Libman asked. “Justin Bieber,” England coyly replied, adding that they would slow dance to one of his songs while he sings it to her. The band continued on, finding an old prosthetic leg, a bin of black-light posters and a vintage Seattle SuperSonics hat (from their beloved former home team, whose arena they played in the day before). Spending the morning with the band, it was hard not to be enveloped by their enthusiasm. After all, they’ve got a new album, Dark Past, dropping November 1. It’s BF’s first full-length since 2008’s Glistening Pleasure, when they were known as Natalie Portman’s Shaved Head (a name Natalie Portman apparently wasn’t cool with). With infectious singles like “Baby Rain” and “Too Young to Kill,” no doubt you’ll be hearing a lot more from this band over the coming months. But before then, the band had to settle on some purchases at the Fremont Vintage Mall. At the checkout, they decided on one of the Looney Toons hats, the gold ’80s prom dress, a vinyl soundtrack from Disney’s “The Rescuers,” the snakeskin coat, a prosthetic limb and a plastic flamingo — you know, just your average Sunday purchases in Seattle. Tupac Shakur’s Legacy Lives On 15 Years After Death

At age 25, the rapper succumbed to gunshot wounds 15 years ago today. By Rob Markman Tupac Shakur on August 1, 1992 Photo: Tim Mosenfelder/ImageDirect There will never be another Tupac Shakur . Who knew that back in 1991 after he made his musical debut with 2Pacalypse Now that the saggy jean-wearing, wide-eyed MC who rapped about the fictional teenaged Brenda and her baby would grow to be one of the most revered figures in modern American history? On Tuesday (September 13), the 15th anniversary of the day he died at age 25, it is clear that Tupac has transcended hip-hop, held by his generation in the same regard as inspirational musical figures like Bob Marley and John Lennon. Tupac’s 1996 shooting and death was the final act in a life often overshadowed by drama and controversy. On September 7, 1996, after attending a Mike Tyson heavyweight championship fight in Las Vegas (and then getting into a fight himself afterwards), the rap star was shot multiple times in a drive-by shooting. It wasn’t the first time the enigmatic street poet came under fire. On November 30, 1994, Shakur was shot five times and, like a mythical urban superhero, checked himself out of the hospital against the doctor’s orders, living to tell his tales through rap. Through his music, storied acting career and overall public persona, Tupac Shakur had proved resilient, so his fans held hope that he would survive the 1996 attack that left him hospitalized for six days. But this time would be different. On Friday September 13, 1996, Tupac Amaru Shakur died due to respiratory failure and cardiac arrest. Authorities have yet to find his killer. Born to two Black Panthers, Tupac understood poverty and black struggle, and he wasn’t afraid to express it through his music. As intelligent, profound and articulate as he was in song, ‘Pac also remained relatable, controversial and contradictory. So while tracks like “Brenda’s Got a Baby,” “Keep Ya Head Up” and “Dear Mama” were made to uplift, fiery anthems like “Hit ‘Em Up,” “Ambitionz Az a Ridah” and “Against All Odds” stood as chest-pounding, testosterone-filled thug anthems. Other hits like “I Get Around,” “How Do U Want It” and “Toss It Up” celebrated Tupac’s flirtatious side. A double-threat, ‘Pac went on to conquer Hollywood as well, beginning with a brief appearance in 1991’s “Nothing But Trouble,” starring Chevy Chase and Demi Moore. It was his 1992 role in the movie “Juice,” however, that certified him a star. Playing the maniacal and villainous Bishop, ‘Pac put his Thug Life persona on full display on the silver screen. He went on to land roles in films like “Poetic Justice” with Janet Jackson, “Above the Rim” and “Bullet,” alongside Mickey Rourke. In February 1995, the rapper/actor began serving a prison sentence at Clinton Correctional Facility in New York after he was sentenced on a sexual assault charge in a rape case he faced the previous year. When he released his third solo album, Me Against the World, a month later, ‘Pac became the first artist to score a #1 album on the Billboard 200 albums chart from behind bars. Later that year, Death Row Records CEO Marion “Suge” Knight posted bail pending Tupac’s appeal and signed the rapper to his label, where he went on to release his first double LP All Eyez on Me and, under the alias Makaveli, his The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory (which came out months after his death). While he was creating what many agree was the best music of his career, this period in ‘Pac’s life was marked by the feud he ignited with the Notorious B.I.G. and Diddy’s Bad Boy Records. B.I.G. was gunned down six months after Shakur, on March 9, 1997. While many speak of the two rap deaths in the same regard, there is no concrete evidence to link the two. B.I.G.’s murder is also unsolved. After his death, Tupac’s legacy lives, particularly with the eight posthumous albums that have been released, including a double-disc greatest hits collection. He has been immortalized in film, books and even college courses, as well as through the works of musicians who have come after him. Traces of ‘Pac can be found in nearly almost every rapper from 50 Cent to T.I. Jay-Z, Eminem, Fabolous and Cam’ron have all sampled from Shakur, and non-rap artists like Justin Bieber have claimed to be fans. In his death he has remained firmly rooted as a hip-hop legend, but at the same time his legend has surpassed musical genre. Tupac Shakur was more than a rapper or poet or a thespian; he is a motivator, an inspiration and an American classic — even in death. Manny Ramirez Allegedly Slapped Wife, Barred from Further Contact

New details have emerged regarding former Major League Baseball star Manny Ramirez and his arrest yesterday on charges of domestic violence . According to the police report obtained by TMZ , Manny’s wife, Juliana, said her husband “struck her in the left side of the face with an open hand causing her to hit her head against the headboard of the bed” during an argument inside their home. She then dialed 911, but refused medical attention. Ramirez claims he merely “grabbed” Juliana by the shoulders and she accidentally crashed into the headboard when he “shrugged her.” At a hearing this morning in Broward Country, Manny’s bond was set at $2,500 and a judge ordered him against having any contact with his wife until an investigation was complete. The last team the slugger played for, meanwhile, is not suffering from his absence in the lineup: the Tampa Bay Rays only trail the Boston Red Sox by three games in the chase for the American League Wild Card.
