Watch The Throne Fans Rave Over Pop-Up Store, ‘Otis’ Vid

MTV News crashed Jay-Z and Kanye’s pop-up store in NYC to speak to Throne fans. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Steven Roberts Kanye West and Jay-Z Photo: Kevin Mazur/WireImageGetty Images/ NEW YORK — “We were at our office and one of my colleagues said, ‘I just saw on Twitter that there is a new pop-up shop that’s selling Watch the Throne, ” said a man identified only by his Twitter handle @hiprobbie. “So we ran down here to check it out.” And just like that, fans scurried down to 201 Mulberry Street, in the SoHo section of Manhattan, to celebrate the physical retail release of Jay-Z and Kanye West’s combo album . Things started off slowly at first. MTV News was on the scene at approximately 11:30 a.m. ET and the storefront, which was wrapped in a gold Riccardo Tisci-designed print, was barren out front. It wasn’t until noon, when MTV broke the news and folks from Kanye’s camp began to tweet about the surprise retail space, that fans started to show up. At about 1 p.m. ET, fans were let in to the surprise store, where the Throne album was sold and the album’s art was displayed. The biggest attraction: the chopped-and-screwed Maybach from Hov and Yeezy’s “Otis” video , which premiered on MTV on Thursday. “That’s the first thing you see when you get in the store is the Maybach, and it’s all tore up,” hip-hop fan Max Lockie said. “The engine’s exposed, the doors are ripped off, the trunk’s split open so you can see the inside of it.” Dorian Talker was equally excited to see the tricked-out whip, which will eventually be auctioned off for charity, though he did express just a bit of disappointment. “I would’ve liked it better if Jay-Z and Kanye had been in the car, but, you know, you get what you get,” he said. See what car expert Myles Kovacs estimates the Maybach’s work cost. The pop-up store caps off an exciting week in which fans waited until Monday’s early morning hours to purchase the album on iTunes. Then on Thursday, Throne fanatics got to see WTT first visual component when the “Otis” video debuted. On Friday, folks were still buzzing. “It was dope. What I liked about the video most was it seemed like they were having a good time,” Jonas Guerrero said. “They were stuntin’ on a whole ‘nother level. The whole big Riccardo Tisci flag on the back, and they were all smiles … I haven’t seen a video like that in a long time.” What did our panel of tastemakers have to say about the “Otis” vid? Check it out here. Talker agreed. He applauded the video’s director for letting Jay and ‘Ye just let it all hang out. “I think Spike Jonze just allowed Kanye and Jay-Z to do their thing,” he said. “It wasn’t overly conceptual, which I think was a benefit to the video.” What do you think of the “Otis” video? Hide Your Wife: Chicago Man Pleads Guilty To Trying To Poison His Wife With A Puffer Fish To Collect $20 Million In Life Insurance!

What part of the game is this?!? A north suburban man pleaded guilty Tuesday to posing as a doctor to buy a deadly neurotoxin that comes from sources including puffer fish, which he intended “to use as a weapon,” according to the U.S. attorney’s office. Edward T. Bachner, 38, was arrested in 2008 following an investigation spearheaded by the FBI-led Joint Terrorism Task Force that culminated with special agents in biohazard suits raiding his Lake in the Hills home. He was charged with illegal possession of the puffer fish toxin in amounts larger than necessary for research or other legitimate purposes. In 2009, Bachner was charged in a superseding indictment that accused him of scheming to murder his wife in order to collect $20 million in life insurance. In the plea agreement, Bachner concedes that he planned to collect on a fraudulently purchased $20 million life insurance policy on a person identified only as “Individual A.” Tetrodotoxin, a powerful poison, is produced naturally in puffer fish, a delicacy in Japan. While medical treatment can reduce its effect on the human body in some cases, there is no way to halt the respiratory paralysis and other symptoms associated with tetrodotoxin. How did this guy manage to get the poison in the first place? Posing as a Dr. Edmund Backer, Bachner placed an order for 98 milligrams of TTX in 2008, according to the plea agreement. When the company, a medical and chemical products distributor, informed him that such an amount was not available, Bachner requested that more be shipped to him when it became available, according to the plea agreement. “That’s a ton,” said Dr. Frank Paloucek, a professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago who is an expert in toxins. “He was buying enough to kill 98 people.” Bachner is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 8. He could face a maximum combined sentence of life in prison and a fine of up to $750,000. Maybe he was planning on collecting some other people’s life insurance too…SMH Source

My name is Chloe and I’m from Melbourne, Australia and this is…

My name is Chloe and I’m from  Melbourne, Australia  and this is My Bieber Experience. I have supported Justin Bieber since my friend told me about him in April 2009. When I heard that he was touring Australia in April/May, I knew I had to get tickets and also try my best to meet him! I cried when I got the concert tickets! I was so happy! I couldn’t believe that  Justin Bieber was coming to my city.  On the 30th of April, my friend Lizzy and I went to Melbourne airport and  we met JB’s dancers, Legaci, DJ Tay James and more ! The next day a few of my friends and I did a dance class with two of JB’s dancers: Nick and Marvin. Both guys are so kind and are such amazing dancers. Over the next few days, we skipped school and stayed outside of JB’s hotel, in the rain and cold hoping that we would meet Justin. Over those few days, we met  everyone in Justin’s crew , including  Ryan, Alfredo, Dan,  and  Scooter!  We even met  Justin’s grandparents 9 times.  My friend and I each gave his grandparents an envelope with our addresses on the front and a piece of paper inside asking Justin to please sign the paper and send it back to us. We thought we might as well give it a shot. All of his crew members were so nice and we got to speak to Scooter for a while because there was only 2 other fans there with us. On May 2nd, I went to Justin’s concert, it was amazing and the crowd’s energy was insane! We knew that as soon as he finished singing Baby, he went straight to his hotel and got there just after 9:30pm. So the next night, the night of his second concert, we were at his hotel and waited until the concert finished. It was nearly 9:30pm and I kept thinking “What if I do MEET Justin?!’ I was so nervous! Just after 9:30pm, a small black car drove past us and there were 2 people in the front and 1 person in the back, on a laptop.  We didn’t  realize  that it was Justin in the car  because we thought that he was going to be in a black van, like everyone else in his crew had been. Luckily, a mother of one of the fans that was also waiting for Justin told us it was him, so we sprinted after the car to where it was parked but the parking space was protected by garage doors. As soon as we got there,  I saw Kenny Hamilton!  I yelled out to him “HI KENNY” and he turned around and smiled at me! And then…  JUSTIN BIEBER GOT OUT OF THE CAR!  I yelled out ”HEY JUSTIN!”,  he turned around and said “Hey!”  My friend and I then yelled out “I LOVE YOU JUSTIN” And then  Justin replied back and said “I LOVE YOU!”  Then he asked everyone if we enjoyed the show, which of course, everyone said “Yeah!” (there were about 5 other girls there as well) Then he walked into the hotel. My friend and I ran to the front of the hotel crying tears of happiness and told all the other girls what had just happened but they didn’t believe us! We went back to the car park where we saw Justin and I saw  Ryan  and  Alfredo  get into a black van.  I knew Justin was in the van as well . I waited with my friend and two other girls until the car drove out and then we chased the van until it drove out of the hotel car park, onto the street. A week later an envelope arrived in the mail and I  recognized  it straight away!  It was the envelope that I had given to Justin’s grandparents to give to Justin!  I opened it and saw that  JUSTIN HAD SIGNED THE PIECE OF PAPER!  I couldn’t believe that Justin had actually signed the note and sent it back to me! Meeting Justin Bieber was a dream come true and I will never forget this experience and I would like to say thank you to Justin for basically just being himself and for all the effort he puts into making his fans happy. Thank you for bringing the  My World Tour  to Australia and for putting smiles on all your Aussie fan’s faces.  NEVER SAY NEVER!   Love Chloe – @ChloeJaacko   Here is the original post: My name is Chloe and I’m from Melbourne, Australia and this is…

Question Of The Day: Is Flirting In A Professional Environment Bad Business?

What can a lil flirt hurt right?? If you think flirting will help you get ahead, think again. We’ve all done it. A seductive smile while negotiating a big purchase. Flirtatious banter with your cubicle neighbor or morning barista. That certain suggestive lilt that enters your voice when asking for help with a project. Those adept at the subtle art of flirting know that batting their lashes or casting a longing look can be a form of social power, sometimes useful in securing an advantage or ally. Career experts like Nicole Williams, author of “Girl on Top,” advocate using every tool available to you to gain an edge in the workplace. Although it often goes unspoken, many executives agree. “Flirting?” asked one woman. “I call it efficiency.” How can one tell the difference between two people who relate to one another having a pleasant conversation and two people intimating that they want to bump uglies? Well psychologist Simon Rego, director of the Cognitive Behavior Therapy Program at Montefiore Medical Center in New York defines it for us: “Flirting is the suggestion of the possibility, but not the probability, of something sexual occurring between two individuals,” says But sometimes flirting may have reverse effects that one may not have forseen. According to Rego, the danger arises from misreading the context and the other person’s perspective. “In a bar, it will be perceived differently than being pulled over for speeding,” he notes. But flirting with a police officer to get out of a ticket is at least worth a try, right? Not necessarily, says Rego. An officer who might have been willing to give you a break before, may be insulted by the obvious manipulation, thinking: You think I’ll bend the rules for a little bit of flirting? Suddenly, they’re more apt to put you in your place. The workplace is especially ripe for misunderstandings or harsh judgments. David Nour, author of Relationship Economics, says he frequently observes employees flirting to improve their position, be it a salesperson trying to build preference with a buyer or a professional hoping to gain priority on a project or land a promotion. Yet misreading the flirtee can result in questions about your intentions, credibility and character. At the very least, it could undermine the foundation of trust between you and your supervisor. Even worse, you may end up on the receiving end of unwanted advances, warns Nour. “Flirting at work is simply dangerous and very career limiting.” What do you think? Have you ever flirted with your boss or supervisor to get special treatment?? Did you ever receive any “hate” from fellow employees?? Source

Jay-Z, Kanye West Announce Watch The Throne Release Date, Tour

Hip-hop duo is calling itself the Throne. By Rob Markman Kanye West and Jay-Z Photo: WireImage Throne watchers now have another date to focus on, this time an official one. It has finally been confirmed that on August 8, Jay-Z and Kanye West will release their highly anticipated joint LP, Watch the Throne, digitally on iTunes. Compact disc lovers will be able to purchase physical copies a few days later on August 12. But when searching for the CD at local retail spots, fans shouldn’t look under “J” for Jay or “W” for West, but rather “T,” as the duo has officially christened their group the Throne. Multiplatinum hip-hop supergroups cannot live by album sales alone, so on August 8 tickets for the Watch the Throne tour will also go on sale to the general public. The 24-date Live Nation-produced run will begin in Detroit on September 22 and wrap up on November 3 in Boston. Performing songs from the Throne album, as well as solo cuts from their respective catalogs, the duo will stop for two dates in Kanye’s hometown of Chicago, but none in Jay’s native New York. Instead the tour will hit the nearby East Rutherford, New Jersey, Izod Center on September 27 and 28. Starting July 28, fans who visit the Live Nation website will have access to pre-sale tickets; the next day, July 29, Citi Card members will get their chance to snatch up early seats. A press release sent out by Hov’s camp also confirms an official 12-song track list, with four bonus tracks slated for the LP’s deluxe version. RZA, the Neptunes and Kanye himself all contribute to the production side of things, while Beyonc

‘Captain America: The First Avenger’: The Reviews Are In!

Film should give ‘Harry Potter’ a run for its money this weekend. By Josh Wigler Chris Evans in “Captain America: The First Avenger” Photo: Paramount Pictures The summer of superheroes rages on this weekend with the theatrical release of “Captain America: The First Avenger.” It’s the final building block audiences need before the full picture of Joss Whedon’s “The Avengers” comes into focus this summer, and by all accounts, the movie does not disappoint. Sporting a fresh rating at review aggregate Rotten Tomatoes , both comic book fans and casual moviegoers alike are feeling the patriotic splendor that Cap has to offer, so “Harry Potter” better watch out: Steve Rogers’ mighty shield could very will split the Boy Who Lived’s wand in half this weekend! Read on for a selection of the “Cap” reviews currently rocking the Web, and check out our own “Captain America” review on Splash Page. And if the star-spangled superhero spirit moves you, give us your own reviews in the comments section below. The Story “It was a pleasure to realize, once ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ got under way, that hey, here is a real movie, not a noisy assembly of incomprehensible special effects. Of course it’s loaded with CGI. It goes without saying it’s preposterous. But it has the texture and takes the care to be a full-blown film. You know, like with a hero we care about and who has some dimension. And with weight to the story. As we plunge ahead into a limitless future of comic-book movies, let this be an inspiration rather than Thor or Green Lantern. ” — Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times The Hero “As the titular comic book character, Chris Evans has an appealing, earnest quality, whether he’s playing the digitally enhanced (reduced?) scrawny Steve Rogers or the well-muscled super-soldier dubbed Captain America. Evans provides just the right human anchor to the flash and dazzle of director Joe Johnston’s production. The movie wouldn’t work without Evans’ likability and the sense of integrity he projects, as well as his all-American good looks.” — Claudia Puig, USA Today The Villain “Then there’s Hugo Weaving as Captain America’s nemesis, Red Skull — a role that requires delivering a genuine performance from behind grotesque crimson prosthetics, which Weaving accomplishes with admirable dexterity. In fact, everyone hits their marks with energy and finesse in ‘Captain America,’ which with its clean, Art Deco lines and sprightly spirit exemplifies why comic book movies are such reliable fodder for Hollywood. They come pre-storyboarded, after all; their gadgets, dinguses and doo-dads are a production artist’s dream, just as those tights, capes and masks must provide fetishistic frissons for the most on-trend costume designer.” — Ann Hornaday, The Washington Post The Action “A chase and shoot-out in a ‘Dick Tracy’ version of New York is one of the most thrilling scenes of the summer movie season, yet this generous film keeps the popcorn popping for two full hours. It’s got musical numbers, as Rogers is costumed as Captain America and sent on a war-bonds tour; it’s got a prison break, as the touring celebrity frees some multicultural P.O.W.s from the Nazis, and it’s got a mythic smackdown, as Captain America squares off against Germanic evil genius Johann Schmidt (the hugely entertaining Hugo Weaving, mimicking documentarian Werner Herzog).” — Joe Williams, St. Louis Post-Dispatch The Setting “Though it begins and ends with a scene or two in the present, as directed by Joe Johnston from a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, ‘Captain America’ is first and foremost an origins story. Almost half of the film’s running time elapses before Rogers gets any kind of power at all, and though its elements are awfully familiar, it’s the most involving part of the film because it takes advantage of Evans’ performance. These early-days sections are so old-fashioned that, if you take away the copious special effects, watching ‘Captain America’ feels akin to watching the venerable 1950s television version of ‘Superman’ starring George Reeves. Buttons are pushed, dials are turned, secret passwords are uttered and lights blink, just like they did way back when.” — Kenneth Turan, Los Angeles Times Check out everything we’ve got on “Captain America: The First Avenger.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Guess Which Industry Is Flourishing Despite These Tough Economic Times???

Brings a whole new meaning to the phrase “On the come up”… Sex sells, duh. And, apparently, during an economic recession, sex-related sales—from Trojan condoms to wine and chocolate—have been particularly hot. “At a time when unemployment is high and bank account balances are low, people are passing the time by getting busy,” Stefan Dallakian, the owner of Paris Intimates – an online sex toy distributor—told me. It’s estimated that the sex-toy business is a $15 billion industry. As the U.S. economy has worsened, Dallakian said that he has seen sales for sex toys skyrocket. At a time when the average consumer has less disposable income, Dallakian actually said that the Return On Investment, or ROI, has been quite high. Some models even come with a 10-year warranty, which he said, “works out to less than a penny per use, which makes it a much better investment than the stock market.” It used to be that sex toys were only sold in specialty stores, but the shift to online purchasing has also boosted sales due to a key ingredient: anonymity. “People no longer have to drive to the porn store and make a face-to-face purchase,” Dallakian said. “Online ordering with discreet shipping saves you the embarrassment of exposing your kinks to strangers, and there’s absolutely zero risk of running into somebody you know while shopping.” As an added bonus to discreet shopping, ordering online is often cheaper and offers a wider selection of products. While there are numerous offerings for a thrill on a budget (“sex toys are like shoes: there are lots for men, tons for women and a handful for both,” Dallakian said), customers with bigger wallets can find toys at higher price points as well. One such product, which Dallakian calls “the Bentley of vibrators at the price of a well-equipped Hyundai,” uses medical grade silicone in its premium design. Made by a Swedish company, the toy, which is worth several hundred dollars, can now be purchased online for $125. In difficult times people do what they have to, to find a little piece of happiness. If that means making more whoopee, then so be it! Source
