President Barack Obama gave his inaugural address today, beginning his second White House term with an ambitious agenda and a call for national unity. On a cold morning in Washington, D.C., the 44th President asked this great nation to live up to its founding ideals and to bringing about needed change. Obama Inaugural Address 2013 Obama invoked the country’s history of hardship – be it from the deficit, rising health care costs, climate change and equal rights – and overcoming adversity. “We are made for this moment, and we will seize it – so long as we seize it together,” Obama said, after taking the oath and being sworn in for a second term . He urged citizens to meet “the obligation to shape the debates of our time – not only with the votes we cast, but with the voices we lift in defense of our enduring ideals.” Amid the pomp and ceremony, the event symbolized U.S. democracy with a peaceful extension of power based on 2012’s bitterly contested election. While focusing on broader themes of democracy and citizenship, Obama referred to some specific issues facing the country after his first four years in power: Economic disparity : Obama said Americans understand that “our country cannot succeed when a shrinking few do very well and a growing many barely make it.” Spending : He rejects “that we must choose between caring for the generation that built this country and investing in the generation that will build its future.” Climate change : Obama vowed to “respond to the threat … knowing that the failure to do so would betray our children and future generations.” Gun control : The President said “all our children, from the streets of Detroit to the hills of Appalachia to the quiet lanes of Newtown” should be safe from harm. World peace : Americans “still believe that enduring security and peace do not require perpetual war” and that “engagement can more durably lift suspicion and fear.” Equality : Perhaps Obama’s loudest cheer came when he said we should not rest “until our wives, our mothers, and daughters can earn a living equal to their efforts,” and “until our gay brothers and sisters are treated like anyone else under the law.” Unlike Obama’s 2009 inauguration, he cast a more optimistic tone for the next four years as he laid out his vision for America in strokes both broad and specific. I’m Tyleign from Toronto and I’ve been a Belieber for as long as I can remember. I tried meeting Justin 13 unsuccessful times, waiting in the pouring rain to traveling across the province, I’ve done everything possible. Then finally the day I’ve been dreaming and wishing for came true. Justin came to Toronto for the Grey Cup and all weekend I camped outside his hotel and it was freezing. I remember walking around the Rogers Centre trying to find his tour bus but I couldn’t find it. Then DJ Tay James was DJing at a club that night so I sat at the back of that club for two hours and it was dark and had people sleeping in the corners . Anyway I had a gut feeling to turn my phone on cause I was saving battery, so I did and my phone got spammed with texts and DM’s from my friends saying, “Get back to Justin’s hotel NOW.” I was originally gonna stay at the club until 1 but it was like 11:40 p.m. so I was like whatever and I left to go to his hotel. I got there and a few fans were outside and Justin’s bus was back! My friends finally arrived and literally 2 minutes after, a car pulls up. I had seen Justin in that car all weekend so I said, “Guys, thats Justin’s car.” It pulls up and then Chaz comes out, and Apparently Fredo came out but I didn’t see him, then Justin. I was speechless so my friend asked Justin for a picture, “Justin please.. us three have been waiting all weekend.” Then he motioned us over and said, “Okay just you three.” I couldn’t believe it, I couldn’t feel the floor under me as I was walking towards him. I felt my heart beat through my chest and I went beside him. He put his arm around me, took a picture and said “Bye.” I just cried cause all the hard work and dedication finally payed off. My friends hugged me and my phone blew up with congrats texts and tweets from family and friends. I was gonna leave but my friend told me to stay a bit so I did. It was cold but I was so happy that I didn’t even feel it. The crew came out and I met Pattie, Dan, Scrappy, Kenny, Scooter, Jeremy and then the one I’ve also been waiting to meet for a long time, Alfredo Flores. He came waking out to the tour bus and I walked up and said, “Fredo can we get a picture?” He didn’t respond so I asked him again and he turned around and said, “Yeah Sure.” Once again my heart was beating out of my chest and I said, “Do you know my Twitter name?” Then Fredo was like, “No what is it?” Then I told him, “MarriedToFredo,” and he was like, “Haha – no way that’s amazing. Well Hi Married to Fredo.” We got our picture and he got pics with everyone there. Before he went in the bus he blew me three kisses and said “Bye Married to Fredo.” After that Fredo even tweeted and followed me! I hope this story inspired you. A surprising video making the online rounds shows QVC host Cassie Lane grabbing her chest and almost fainting during a live presentation on TV. We’re pretty certain there were other ways this fool could have gone home to prison. Fueled by dangerous paranoia following his release from prison, Damel Burton, 34, carried out a psychotic 15-minute spree that left two people dead and sent terrified passengers stampeding off a Q111 bus, police sources said. The madman told cops he believed the commuters were plotting against him. “People on the bus were on the phone and he thought they were talking about him,” a police source said. Burton began his horrific spree by fatally shooting Keith Murrell, 18, in the chest in the apartment they shared with Murrell’s mother on Foch Blvd. in Jamaica, police sources said. The gunman, who had grown increasingly unhinged following a seven-year prison stint for armed robbery, then boarded the bus and randomly shot innocent commuter Marvin Gikes, 36, in the back of the head, police sources said. He collapsed on the bus’ rear steps and died. Next, the gunman blasted commuter Jojuan Lipsey, 29, in the face as screaming passengers ran for their lives, sources said. Lipsey, a state-employed counselor for developmentally disabled patients, was heading home from work to see his wife and kids when a bullet tore through his mouth. “He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time,” said his mother-in-law, Catherine Baynes. “You don’t expect anything like that to come so close to home.” Lipsey underwent surgery at Jamaica Hospital and is expected to survive. The bus bloodbath came shortly after Burton and Murrell got into a confrontation in their second-floor apartment, their friends said. After Burton blasted him in his chest, the dying teen stumbled into his room and locked the door to get away from the crazed killer. Murrell managed to leap out the window and run to a nearby Royal Fried Chicken store to get help. He collapsed outside the chicken joint and later died at Jamaica Hospital. “He was running over here and he fell to the corner,” shaken store clerk Ali Nasery, 27, recalled. Burton raced out of the apartment after his first killing, but police sources said he dropped a damaging clue — an identification card, which police found along with several 9-mm. bullets. Fewer than 15 minutes later he boarded the bus, opening fire as it rumbled near the intersection of Archer Ave. and Parsons Blvd. Chaos erupted as the gunfire sent about 50 panicked passengers rushing for the front of the bus and screaming for the driver to open the doors, the rattled driver told the Daily News. “They just wanted to get out,” the 57-year-old driver said. “It was panic, crazy. I couldn’t believe it. “It sounded like the Fourth of July,” he added. He said passengers were screaming, “Let me out, let me out,” as they ran for cover. After unleashing the insanity, the suspect ran off the bus, but only made it a block away before police captured him. He was still carrying a semi-automatic 9-mm. Ruger pistol, the sources said.
