Source: Chicago Tribune / Getty Family Of Kenneka Jenkins Files Lawsuit Files Lawsuit Against Rosemont Hotel According to ABC Chicago the mother of Kenneka Jenkins, a young woman found dead in a Rosemont hotel freezer, has filed a lawsuit demanding $50 million in damages. Kenneka Jenkins disappeared in September 2017 while attending a hotel party with friends at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Surveillance video footage showed her wandering alone through a kitchen area and toward the freezer. Jenkins’ body was found the next day, leaving her relatives questioning whether she was murdered, but police are adamant her death was from hypothermia. The family claims the defendants were negligent because they didn’t secure the freezer or carry out a proper search when Jenkins went missing.

The Grammy winner announced on Instagram that he will be taking a break from music to better learn the “world of God.” “I’m on a plane headed out the country on my first sabbatical. I’m going away to learn the Word of God, which I am admittedly very unfamiliar with,” the 25-year-old wrote earlier last weekend. “I’ve been brought up by my family to know Christ, but I haven’t taken it upon myself to really just take a couple days and read my Bible.” In addition, he added that he hasn’t always made religion a priority in his life, something he wants to remedy in the next 365 days, thanks to his newborn nephew Charlie Matthew. “I’m definitely guilty of not devoting time to [the Bible.] So I’m off to read and learn because the next generation of Bennett is here and I need to be able to give my nephew Charlie Matthew the knowledge and tools to F–K YALL UP.” Concluding, “But seriously he’s the first boy of the next line and he needs his uncle to be educated.So don’t bother me. I’ll be back soon enough, with five or more books from Bible read.” His Instagram post is also accompanied by a picture of the Chicago-native holding the baby boy in his arms. Take a look: It seems like Chance’s devotion is for real. As the Huff Post pointed out , the rapper’s next social media post was a picture of a page from a Christian devotional he was reading. It’s no secret that Chance has a special relationship with God , but what is a secret is just how long this sabbatical will be. T he legacy of Richard Collins III —a student who tragically lost his life on the University of Maryland’s campus last year—will be kept alive through the creation of scholarships for HBCU students in the Maryland area, the Journal for Blacks in Higher Education reported. An annual $1 million scholarship was launched in honor of Richard Collins III, a Bowie State University student killed in May 2017. It will support ROTC cadets at all four of Maryland's HBCU's. https://t.co/qbOcD6ncMN — WJZ | CBS Baltimore (@wjz) November 29, 2018 Collins—who was a senior at Bowie State University—was the victim of a hate crime, the news outlet writes. While visiting the University of Maryland he was fatally stabbed by a white man. Collins had so much going for him. He was a 2nd Lt. in the Reserve Officer Training Corps and was slated to graduate just days before he lost his life. Maryland Governor Larry Hogan recently shared that the state would fund a $1 million scholarship—dubbed the 2nd Lt. Richard W. Collins III Leadership with Honor Scholarship—which will be awarded to students who attend historically Black colleges and universities and are a part of the Reserve Officer Training Corps. Students who attend Coppin State University, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Morgan State University, and Bowie State University will be eligible for the scholarship. The families of several individuals who lost their lives to violence have chosen to honor their legacies by helping others further their education. The family of Tamara E. O’Neal —a medical student who was murdered by her boyfriend in Chicago—launched the Tamara E. O’Neal Memorial Fund as an avenue to create scholarships for young, Black medical students. “Tamara was an incredible advocate, particularly for physicians of color or anyone that may have expressed an inkling of doubt, as her disarming nature and warm smile made it easy for even the shyest aspiring doctor to inquire about the amazing job she loved, and in due time lend herself as a resource,” said one of her classmates in a statement . According to court documents obtained by the people over at TMZ , Keef has 4 more children under the age of 5, and they all have different mothers who are all seeking child support. The reveal of these family additions happened while the rapper was in court, making his official kid count a whopping 9. A judge is now ordering that Chief Keef pay each woman $564 in child support per month, starting in January. As TMZ points out, the “I Don’t Like” rapper could practically fill his own daycare at this point following the reveal of these new children, because all 4 of the recently revealed kids are under the age of 5. An active shooter went on a rampage inside a Chicago hospital on Monday evening, ultimately killing four and injuring an undetermined amount of others. According to ABC 7 , three people were murdered in the shooting, including the ER doctor that had previously been engaged to the shooter, a Chicago police officer, and a pharmaceutical worker at Mercy Hospital on the South Side of Chicago. The shooter was also killed by police gunfire. The gunman has been identified as 32-year-old Juan Lopez. His shooting spree began in the hospital’s parking lot, as he confronted Dr. Tamara O’Neal, the woman he had been engaged to that broke things off with him last September. There is no word on why the shooter entered the hospital and opened fire after killing his ex outside, but we will continue to monitor this story for further information. Also among those killed was officer Samuel Jiminez and 25-year-old pharmaceutical resident Dayna Less, who was also engaged and planning to travel back to her home of Indiana tomorrow for the Thanksgiving holiday. Source: Chicago Tribune / Getty The tragic death of Black security guard Jemel Roberson at the hands of police as he was assisting in the arrest of a gunman is still under investigation. In the wake of the unfortunate incident, Kanye West has given the family of Roberson $150,000. TMZ reports : West heard the story of Jemel Roberson — who was gunned down by police after stopping a drunken man with a gun — and wanted to do whatever he could to lessen the burden on his family. West donated $150,000 to Roberson’s family Friday, the goal originally placed on a GoFundMe account for Roberson’s family was $10,000. As we reported … Roberson was working security at Manny’s Blue Room Bar Sunday around 4 AM where several drunk customers were ordered out. One of those customers returned to the bar a short time later with a gun and opened fire. Reports say Roberson returned fire, subdued the gunman and held him at gunpoint until police arrived … but when the police officer got to the scene, he shot Roberson, killing him. The outlet adds that Roberson was working extra shifts just to secure enough money to make his son’s Christmas haul better this year. — Photo: Getty
Source: Kevin Winter / Getty Michelle Obama’s Book Sold More Than 750,000 Copies On Its First Day First day sales for Michelle Obama’s “Becoming” topped 725,000 copies, making it one of the year’s biggest debuts. According to the Associate Press , that the figures include sales and pre-orders for the former first lady’s memoir include hardcover, audio and e-books editions for the United States and Canada. The book follows Obama’s journey from Chicago’s South Side to the White House, and many reviews have been positive. The Washington Post praised it as “impressive balance in telling the truth of her challenges while repeatedly acknowledging her lucky life.” The book was released earlier this week and Crown (publisher) also announced that it had raised the book’s print run from 1.8 million copies to 2.6 million following the successful release. “Becoming” had the biggest opening of any books in 2018 by Crown’s parent company (Penguin Random House).
