Image via Mike Coppola/Getty Images for TIDAL Anderson .Paak Is Throwing An Oxnard Carnival Anderson .Paak is about to take over the music game later this week, when he’s scheduled to drop his highly anticipated third studio album, Oxnard . To celebrate its impending release, the Oxnard native is looking to do something special for the people in the city he grew up in. After initially teasing something to arrive the day the after Oxnard is scheduled to drop, Andy officially announced today that he’ll be hosting his own carnival with the release of the new record. Boasting a fun time that includes free rides, free food, free games with prizes, and a free shuttle bus to the event from downtown Oxnard itself, Andy’s Oxnard Carnival will take place this Saturday (November 17) at the Performing Arts and Convention Center in Oxnard. This all-ages event will take place from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m., and of course, Anderson .Paak himself is scheduled to perform in some capacity. It’s not yet clear if there’s anyone else scheduled to tmake an appearance, but knowing how many friends .Paak has (and how many of them are featured on the album), there’s bound to be plenty of surprises. If you’re in the 805, you can RSVP here . Oxnard is set to come out this Friday, and we can expect features from J. Cole, B.J. the Chicago Kid, Q-Tip, Snoop Dogg, Pusha-T, Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar, and Kadhja Bonet among others.
Viola Davis and Liam Neeson are ready to hit the big screen in the Steve McQueen directed piece called Widows. This is the follow up to his Academy Award nominated 12 Years A Slave, in Widows, Viola plays a grieving wife named Veronica Rawlings who has to go on a heist with a group of other widows to repay their husband’s debts when a gangster turned politician named Jamal Manning comes knocking at her door asking for his money that got robbed by their deceased husbands. Sounds interesting right? I went to Chicago to sit down with Viola, Liam, Brian Tyree Henry, Cynthia Erivo and Michelle Rodriguez for this episode of Extra Butter with Xilla Valentine. The film is your classic tale of cops and robbers with a subplot of bad guys and gals fighting each other so it will be no surprise that this film has a lot of police interaction. I asked the cast about police brutality and Michelle Rodriguez opened up about losing a loved one to police violence in Jersey City, NJ. “I’ve been exposed to a lot of police brutality growing up in Jersey City. The Latino community as well as the African American community we are in it together,” Michelle explained. “I’ve seen so much gnarly stuff happening growing up in jersey city I’ll give you one account. My God son’s uncle being killed by cops and they tried to hide it by taking the body from the actual hospital, removing his tongue in the morgue before his sister could go identify the body. This is the kind of stuff the cops do to cover themselves up.” Liam chimed in as well, referencing the Laquan McDonald case where officer Jason Van Dyke, 40, was charged with murder acknowledging that these are sensitive times especially in Chicago where a young black man was shot 16 times. Also on this episode of Extra Butter, Brian Tyree Henry and Cynthia Erivo talk about crafting great scenes with Viola Davis and Viola and Liam have some fun talking about washcloths a conversation that led to a hilarious moment. Widows is in theaters everywhere this weekend 11/16.
Image via inhauscreative/Getty Chicago Security Guard Killed By Cops After Apprehending Shooting Suspect Apparently, there is no circumstance under which a Black person cannot be killed. Unarmed, not resisting, hands up, on the ground , showing proper paperwork, even stopping a crime can cost you your life when you are a person of color dealing with the police. According to TMZ , Jemel Robinson was a security guard at Manny’s Blue Room Bar in Chicago when he had to escort a drunk group of gentlemen from the premises. Said gentlemen then returned bearing firearms with intent to kill. After a gunfight, Jemel was able to apprehend one of the suspects until police arrived. He put a knee in the man’s back and held a gun on him. An officer who responded to the call fired and killed Jemel dead on the spot. Not to be confused with her Halloween costume, Kourt donned a different lingerie look just hours ahead of this year’s show. The results are jaw-dropping. Take a look: Kourt captioned this photo: “Can’t wait for tonight.” She was referring to the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. 2018 seems to exist outside of the normal rules of time, so we understand that it might be hard to accept that Halloween was just two weeks ago. Famously, she and her sisters went as Victoria’s Secret Angels — because of course they did. In this pic, however, Kourtney is wearing a slightly different outfit, both in terms of the lingerie portion and in terms of the wings. For contrast, here is the look that she was sporting for Halloween: As you can see, the “wings” are very different in the Halloween costume. And the lingerie is a bit more revealing. Those outfits were, of course, supplied by Victoria’s Secret. (The Kardashian brand is still intensely powerful, folks, and any company would jump at the chance to have these women don their products) The picture up top is of Kourtney getting hyped for the actual runway show. But on All Hallow’s Eve, the Kardashian clan put on a runway show of their very own. The women — excuse us, the angels — looked positively radiant in their Halloween costumes. “Thank you Victoria’s Secret for sending us actual runway looks and real wings to borrow for the night!!!” Kim gushed. “OMG a dream come true!” Kim continued. “Got to be a Victoria’s Secret Angel for the night!” Kim acknowledged that her supermodel sister was no stranger to the look: “[And] Kendall got good practice lol.” Kendall’s non-compete agreement with La Perla lingerie had thankfully run out in time for her to participate in this year’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. Because the show is a fantasy.” That did not go over well, and he has since apologized. Kourtney’s latest photo comes as fires are ravaging Southern California, even reaching as far as some Kardashian properties. Multiple celebrities have had their homes totally consumed by raging wildfires. With this year’s drought, the fire continues to burn unchecked — and with climate change, these devastating wildfires will only grow more frequent. We sincerely hope that the fire can soon be contained and extinguished. In the mean time, many find Kourt’s photos to be a welcome distraction from the horrifying inferno. Reportedly, the boy’s grandparents sat on the couch watching television together when their grandson came up behind his grandmother and shot her in the back of the head according to police. Email Submit Yvonne Woodard, 65, and her husband lived with their grandson, according to Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office. The grandfather told MCSO detectives they had asked their grandson to clean his room, but he was being stubborn about it. The grandfather first ran after the grandson before returning to help his wife. He then heard gunshots as his grandson shot himself. Unhappy girl in a bedroom Mother Speaks After She Left Her Kids On The Side Of The Road This is sad! This North Carolina mother , Jennifer Westfall, 38, says she was exhausted being a single parent, so she decided to leave her children off an elementary school campus. She says she watched a woman grab her children by the hands and walk them inside. The kids are 9-year-old and 19-months-old. Apparently, School administrators alerted the school resource officer who in turn called Child Protective Services and she was arrested. SMH. Westfall spoke to a local news station, clarifying that she was just tired and she thought what she did was “legal”. Hit play to see what else she had to say about the incident.

According to an exclusive report via Collider , Oprah Winfrey has signed on along with Steven Spielberg to produce a film adaptation of the critically acclaimed Broadway musical. This report comes more than thirty years after the duo originally worked together on The Color Purple film, which was based on Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. The book told the story of Celie, a black Southern woman who struggles to overcome the pain of extreme poverty and abuse throughout her entire life. Spielberg directed the film, while Oprah portrayed the character of Sofia Johnson, along with some help from Whoopi Goldberg as Celie. “ The Color Purple was a seminal moment in my life. I read the book when it came out,” Oprah told the Collider back in 2014. “I got the book and read it, in one day. And then, I went back, the next day, and bought every copy they had. I would hand the book out to everybody that I knew. I passed it around to everybody in the office. I became obsessed with the book. I moved to Chicago and I would literally walk around with a backpack filled with books because I didn’t have a book club, and I would just start a conversation with people and say, ‘Have you read The Color Purple ?’ And if they hadn’t, I’d say, ‘Here, have a copy, right here.’ I was literally obsessed with it.” Sticking with the project, Oprah would later produce The Color Purple musical, which debuted in 2005 and go on to win multiple Tony Awards. As for the movie, Quincy Jones and Scott Sanders will produce the upcoming Warner Bros. film alongside Oprah and Spielberg. But a far as talent goes, there are no details about casting, writers, or a director as of now.
Image via (Randy Holmes/ABC via Getty Images) Looks Like Kanye West Isn’t COMPLETELY Distancing Himself From Politics Chicago mayoral candidate Amara Enyia–who was officially endorsed by Chance the Rapper–says she received yet another donation from Kanye West following his tweet where he expressed his decision to distance himself from politics. The rapper tweeted, “My eyes are now wide open and now realize I’ve been used to spread messages I don’t believe in. The new $126,460 donation to the progressive Chicago mayoral candidate was disclosed on Wednesday, per a report from NBC Chicago . Previously, West gave the campaign fund $73,540, making this recent amount almost double. After the Illinois State Board of Elections fined Enyia for “failing to properly file quarterly finance reports in connection with her 2015 campaign for mayor,” Kanye stepped in to offer a helping hand. Enyia never closed her campaign account following her withdrawal from the 2015 mayoral race, prompting the fines but now, which is what Yeezy’s $73K contribution covered. There’s no word yet on what this new donation from Kanye covers, but what it does show is that he’s still invested in politics at least for Chicago’s sake. Chance the Rapper was the first rapper to endorse Enyia, with his friend and collaborator Kanye following closely behind and attending an event with both Amara and Chance. “Narcissistically, if I back you, you have a chance,” Chance said last month during a press conference that simultaneously served as his announcement of the Enyia endorsement and his denouncement of rumors suggesting he was planning to run himself.
