David Schwimmer Hopes Parents Take Kids To R-Rated ‘Trust’

‘The difficult scenes are all implied,’ director tells MTV News. By Kara Warner David Schwimmer Photo: MTV News In this current day and age dominated by all things digital, and the speed with which people are able to quickly connect to one another via the Internet, smart phones, iPads, WiFi, etc., the importance of educating our youth about the dangers of communicating with strangers online is at an all-time high. In the new film “Trust,” directed and produced by David Schwimmer, starring Clive Owen, Catherine Keener and newcomer Liana Liberato, the issue is tackled head-on, via a story that revolves around a family torn apart after their daughter is victimized and sexually assaulted by a man she meets online. When MTV News caught up with Schwimmer, we asked him whom he most wants to see the film, how he dealt with capturing such a difficult subject matter and the film’s tricky rating. “It’s rated R, which makes it hard for a teenager to go by him or herself, so my hope is that parents do come with their kids,” Schwimmer said. “There’s no violence, there’s no nudity. The difficult scenes are all implied, really. It’s really the subject matter [that garnered the R rating].” Schwimmer went on to say that he didn’t want to compromise the intensity and integrity of the story by lightening the assault scenes or the profanity. “I didn’t want to lose the profanity, because I felt you’d lose credibility,” he said. “When most parents find out that some guy has done this to their kid, they don’t go, ‘Oh darn, oh shucks, how did this happen?’ They swear, and I think it’s more believable and credible. I didn’t want to alter that, and I realize it would make it more challenging for young adults to see it, but I’m hoping that parents bring their kids.” “Trust” opens Friday in New York, L.A., Chicago, Oklahoma City and Columbus, Ohio. Amy Adams Cast as Lois Lane in Superman: Man of Steel

Insiders behind the upcoming Superman: Man of Steel have confirmed that gorgeous ginger Amy Adams will play Lois Lane in the franchise reboot, which will be shooting in Chicago this summer. Director Zack Snyder said in an interview with the LA Times that Lois Lane was a “linchpin” to the film and that the Depression-era character would be updated for 2012, adding: “There was a big, giant search for Lois. For us it was a big thing and obviously a really important role. We did a lot of auditioning but we had this meeting with Amy Adams and after that I just felt she was perfect for it.” Hopefully by “updated” Snyder means “nude”, not its other, dreaded code meaning, “packed with bad CGI effects.” Details are still sketchy on the plot of Superman: Man of Steel , but Adams, who has played both tough (as the athletic Charlene in The Fighter ) and na

Simon Cowell Looking For ‘Unusual People’ At ‘X Factor’ Auditions

‘I always say, you’ve got to embrace the madness,’ Cowell says of contestants. By Jocelyn Vena Simon Cowell Photo: Brian Ach/ WireImage With only days until the first official “X Factor” audition kicks off, Simon Cowell recently dished to MTV News about what he’s looking for in an “X Factor” contender. And he admits he doesn’t mind if contestants are a bit freaky. “I love unusual people. I always say, you’ve got to embrace the madness,” Cowell laughed. “I like that we’re going to be very open-minded. I think we’re going to have good enough people on this panel that we’re not gonna miss out on anyone who’s got potential.” So far, that judging panel includes famed record executive L.A. Reid , with more names to be announced soon. Mariah Carey reportedly passed on a judging opportunity, and Enrique Iglesias has been rumored to be a potential host for the show. Cowell says that with so much to gain as the winner of “X Factor,” it’s all about going big or going home. “Well, you know, there’s $5 million at stake on this show, we’re guaranteeing a winner a recording contract … so we’re looking for somebody who’s not just gonna be an artist who sells records in America,” he explained about making sure that special someone has global appeal. “We want someone who’s gonna sell all over the world,” he continued. “You look at what’s happened over the last couple of years, I think originality is key and you’ve got to be different to what’s out there already … I would say on this show, we’re much more open to people being ‘out there’ and anything goes, basically.” Audition dates for the show begin on Sunday, March 27, in Los Angeles, and continue on April 7 in Miami, April 14 in Newark, New Jersey, April 20 in Seattle, April 27 in Chicago, and May 26 in Dallas.

Big Sean Praises Kanye West On ‘RapFix Live’

The Detroit rapper calls his mentor ‘one of the most nicest people out the hood.’ By Alvin Blanco Big Sean Photo: Rich Sancho/ MTV News Plenty of people have opinions about Kanye West , but relatively few can say they formed them by being part of the rapper/producer’s inner circle. Big Sean has been running with Kanye since the Chicago hip-hop superstar was recording his third album, 2007’s Graduation. Yesterday on “RapFix Live,” the 2010 XXL magazine Freshmen alum spoke about the trepidation he felt when he first started working with Yeezy. “Being around a legend like that is nerve-racking,” Big Sean told MTV News. “It seemed like everything I brought him he would always be like, ‘Man come on, you need to do better, you need to do this,’ like when I first signed to him. I was always nervous, like, ‘Dang, he’s going to drop me, he think I’m wack.’ But I worked hard and now when I bring him music he’s like, ‘You going to be the greatest man. Yes, I knew you had it in you.’ He’s definitely the most intimidating person I’ve ever been in the studio with.” Since formally signing to G.O.O.D. Music in 2007, Big Sean has become one of Kanye’s go-to collaborators. Although the Detroit rapper does not drop a verse on Kanye’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, he was on a number of the G.O.O.D. Fridays leaks, including “Good Friday,” “Don’t Look Down” and “Looking for Trouble.” Sean also was present for the album’s storied recording sessions in Hawaii, and shared one of its most humorous moments involving Kanye. “The atmosphere there was crazy,” Sean said. “One of the funniest stories of all time was when Kanye was making a beat in front of everybody in the room. And he was making a beat, making a beat, and everybody was just tuned in, like, ‘Dang, Kanye making a beat,’ and he was like, ‘I know what you’re thinking, Yes, Kanye West is making a beat right now.’ He kids around a lot.” Big Sean went on to assert that his mentor’s reputation for being difficult is overblown. “People think he has like a stuck-up attitude or is an a-hole or whatever, but he’s really one of the most nicest people out the hood,” Sean maintained. “I always say, ‘What kind of a-hole would get me out the hood and ride my mom around in his Maybach?’ ” Related Videos ‘RapFix Live’ With Big Sean Related Artists Big Sean Kanye West

On last night’s Teen Mom , 19-year-old Chelsea gets an angry phone call from Adam Lind (not the Toronto Blue Jays OF/DH) demanding to see the little girl. “I don’t know where you live or who’s going to be around her, so that’s another reason I don’t want her to go with you,” Chelsea says. “I don’t think you should see her until you pay support. Patrick Stump Conflicted By Rise Against Matchup In Musical March Madness

The friends are going head-to-head in the second round of the MTV tournament, right now on the Newsroom blog. By James Montgomery Patrick Stump Photo: Michael Caulfield/ WireImage On Monday, when we revealed the second-round matchups in our Musical March Madness tournament , few clashes stood out quite like the #4 Rise Against / #12 Patrick Stump tilt in the Midwest Region. After all, this is a battle between friends. Both acts hail from Chicago, both have come up together (RA frontman Tim McIlrath was actually in a band with Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz back in the day), and both share a respect for the other. So, it’s nothing short of cruel that there can be only one winner.
