Mom Arrested For Letting Kids Play Outside

Allowing kids to play on scooters outside sounds normal enough, but a Texas mom was arrested and spent a night in jail after a neighbor complained about just that. Police took the neighbor at her word, and a few hours after the call, arrested Cooper for child endangerment; she is accused of letting them play unsupervised. Tammy Cooper claims the the arresting officer told her, “We’re here for you.”

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively: Married Legally!

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively’s secret wedding September 9 wasn’t actually official. The pair tied the knot, legally, five days later in Charleston, S.C. Say what now? Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds married in an intimate ceremony a week ago Sunday, but legally, the happy couple wasn’t hitched until September 14. Documents show Reynolds, 35, and Lively, 25, applied for a marriage license on Thursday, September 13, and actually got married the following day. The law mandates that there be a 24-hour waiting period between filing an application for a marriage license and the time the license can be issued. A couple is also required to apply for the license in person. The cost of a marriage license: $70. This certainly helps explain how they kept it secret . Everyone involved was asked to sign non-disclosure agreements, from the children’s choir to the cake makers, and phones were confiscated at the door. Congratulations again to the newlyweds! And well played!

Now What?? Chi-Town Teachers End Their Strike!

After seven days of picketing, Chicago teachers have voted to end their ongoing strike! This isn’t a sweet Wall Street deal by any means but pay cuts won’t be as detrimental and our kids can go back to their classrooms (even if they’re still overcrowded). SMH According to NPR… “Our brothers and sisters throughout the country have been told that corporate ‘school reform’ was unstoppable, that merit pay had to be accepted and that the public would never support us if we decided to fight. Cities everywhere have been forced to accept performance pay. “Not here in Chicago. Months ago, CTU members won a strike authorization, one that our enemies thought would be impossible. Now we have stopped the board are imposing merit pay! We preserved our lanes and steps when the politicians and press predicted they were history. We held the line on healthcare costs.” If you haven’t paid attention to the strike, you’ve missed seeing and hearing these brave teachers fight for our children out there. Overcrowded classrooms, deplorable conditions, and shady pay cuts (while millions of funding went to “richer” districts), all caused educators to hit their breaking point. We understand it put parents and caregivers in a bind for a week…but today those baby steps were worth it. Images via Facebook

Innocence of Muslims Filmmaker Nakoula Basseley Unmasked By New York Tabloids

As protesters in Pakistan, Indonesia and Afghanistan raged against the anti-Islam film Innocence of Muslims over the weekend,  the media was also awash with photos and video of the Egyptian immigrant first tied to the crude inflammatory video, Nakoula Basseley , as he was escorted from his Southern California home looking like the Elephant Man so that he could be questioned by police. (See the video after the jump.) Basseley, who was first identified as Sam Bacile — a pseudonym that calls to mind the word “imbecile,” — covered his face with a white scarf and wore a newsboy’s cap on his head to protect his identity. His appearance didn’t remain hidden for long, however. Both the New York Daily News and the New York Post have run a picture of Basseley, sans disguise, sitting with one of the actors in Innocence of Muslims , Anna Gurji, who has been talking to a number of media outlets, and wrote a letter to the horror/fantasy writer Neil Gaiman about how she and her fellow cast members were duped by Basseley.  (Gurji also notes in her letter to Gaiman, which he posted on his website, that The Happy Hooker Goes Hollywood  helmsman Alan Roberts (a.k.a. Robert Brownell) was the director of Innocence of Muslims.) Basseley, who’s reportedly a 55-year-old Coptic Christian who immigrated from Egypt, does not have the face of a man who sparked a wave of violence that led to the deaths of U.S. Ambassador to Libya  J. Christopher Stevens and three other American diplomatic staffers.  What’s that they say about the banality of evil? Follow Frank DiGiacomo on Twitter. Follow Movieline on Twitter.

POLL: Holy Latex Rash! Does The New Robocop Exo-Skeleton Look Too Much Like The Batsuit?

Well, I don’t see any latex nipple protrusions, but our sister site Deadline makes an interesting point .  After posting an exclusive ComingSoon.net shot of Joel Kinnaman in the new black RoboCop suit for Jose Padilha’s remake,  Deadline noted that “The outfit does kinda have a Tim Burton’s Batman feel to it — a far cry from Peter Weller’s metallic get-up in the original.   So, we’d like to put the question to you.  Does the RoboCop 2.0 suit remind you too much of a certain Caped Crusader’s black get-up?  Take the poll after the jump. RoboCop hits theaters on Aug. 9, 2013. So, the good news is, even if you don’t like it, you have time to get used to it.  Oh yes, and one clarifying point about the nipples: as our commenter “Horrified” points out, those design details weren’t added until Joel Schumacher took the reins from Burton to direct  Batman Forever and Batman & Robin .) Padilha’s update also stars Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Samuel L. Jackson, Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley and Jennifer Ehle, Josh Zetumer and Nick Schenk wrote the re-boot script. Set in 2028, Kinnaman plays a Detroit cop seriously messed up in the line of duty. After the multinational, morally bankrupt Omnicorp saves his life and gives him super-human abilities — see suit, above — the newly christened RoboCop opens a can of whoop-ass on Detroit’s criminal element, and, if the new story follows the old, his very creators. Bogus Bolitics: GOP Rep Equates Planned Parenthood To Slavery; Calls Them ‘Racist BabyKillers’

GOP Representative Calls Planned Parenthood ‘Racist Babykillers’ Today in ratchet Republican news: A GOP representative has taken time out of his busy schedule to explain to us all how salvery, racism and planned parenthood go hand in hand. A Republican member of Congress equated Planned Parenthood to “slavery forces” and called it a “racist organization” that was “created with the sole purpose of killing children that look like mine.” Rep. Tim Huelskamp, a congressman from Kansas who made the comments at the 2012 Values Voter Summit this morning, is staunchly anti-abortion rights and said he has adopted four children “each of them either black, Hispanic, native American.” “Besides slavery, abortion is the other darkest stain on our nation’s character,” Huelskamp told the crowd. “And this president is looking for every way possible to make abortion more available and more frequent, and he wants you to pay for it — even if you disagree with it. Welcome to another provision of Obamacare. “What will they think of next?” Source
