Jenelle Evans has a lot of time on her hands these days. And as police in her North Carolina hometown can probably tell you — that's a very dangerous thing. Ten years ago, they had three family members who were fighting different types of the disease at the same time. While supporting their loved ones they noticed there was a lack of spaces that merged treatments with wellness and decided to open The Cancer Who Cares Center. “We noticed that there was no center where people with cancer could go to decompress, and let their emotions out, but also be treated with a sense of normalcy,” Al told the news outlet. “All of our programs are free because we want to support the person and their family without them having to worry about paying for anything.” The center has a variety of programs to provide emotional and mental care for patients, including spa days, forums and yoga classes. The couple hopes that their journey will inspire other individuals in the Black community to break barriers in whatever industry they choose to pursue. “We feel proud that we can show our children and the rest of our culture that you can always be the first at something even when you feel like you are in last place,” Al stated. There are several Black entrepreneurs who are creating spaces where people of color can receive proper care and support. Earlier this year a group of African American medical professionals joined forces to open up Chicago’s only Black-owned urgent care facility . In 2018, Dr. Tamara Moise and Wadson Fils opened the doors to Big Apple Urgent Care, Brooklyn’s first Black-owned urgent care center. Amber Portwood … It’s just not a great situation right now, everything that’s been going on with her. Is that the understatement of the year? Yeah, maybe. And sure, it would be nice to just leave it at that, to not go into the details of Amber’s latest crimes. But to talk about where she’s going, we have to talk about where she’s been, don’t we? So let’s just go ahead and recap Amber’s tale of machete madness one more time. Back on the fourth of July, Amber and her boyfriend, Andrew Glennon, reportedly got into an argument over some fireworks —there was some traffic and road work, so they weren’t able to get where they needed to be to see them. It sounds like such a non-issue — just go a different way, or see different fireworks, whatever — but it seemed to have set Amber off in a big way. He dropped her off at home and went back out with their one-year-old, James, to figure out the situation with the dumb fireworks, and when he did, he went back home. That’s when Amber allegedly began beating him with a shoe while he was holding James. They left again, leaving Amber at home, and drove around for around three hours before Andrew picked up some food and a present and tried going home again. She was still agitated, enough that, according to Andrew’s statement, she took a handful of pills and told him she was going to kill herself. But wait, it gets crazier. She ended up throwing up the pills, but later she picked up a machete and went after him while he was holding the baby. He went to another room and locked the door, but she hit the door with the machete and tried to kick it down — that’s when he finally reached out to 911 and officers came to arrest her . Amber was charged with three felonies, and she was only just able to see James in a supervised visit . Andrew has filed for full custody, and he definitely seems done with their relationship. It’s an awful story, and it could get a lot worse — there’s a real chance she could go back to prison for this. So what is she doing in the meantime? Oh, you know, just chillin’ with some corn. Amber has remained pretty quiet on social media after her arrest — besides posting about being “heartbroken” by reports that Andrew is already talking to another woman , she’s been totally silent. But this weekend, she’s been easing back into things, first by posting a photo of some good ol’ Indiana corn fields. She then posted a video of some corn up close, and captioned it “Relaxation in the beautiful country.” Last night, she posted a selfie, her first since the incident, and although it’s pretty dark, we can only assume that she’s once again out in the corn fields. “Nighttime meditation and relaxation with music and nature,” she captioned that picture. With all these posts about relaxation and meditation, it’s pretty clear what she’s doing, right? She wants us all to believe that she’s thinking about things, that she’s trying to grow and reflect and be a better person. She’s got her comments turned off on Instagram, but she’s set her posts there to go to Twitter, and Twitter has some things to say about all of this. “Get help and stop abusing men,” one of her followers suggested. Another pointed out “If you are abusing men in front of your children, you are abusing your children. It’s so sick.” One particularly blunt person commented “You need to check yourself into an inpatient clinic. Then you need to actually do the work. You’re a terrible human being, but with intense treatment & the right medication, you might make into the ‘not so bad’ category.” But, believe it or not, the positive, supportive comments far outweigh the critical ones — so many people have told her things like “this too shall pass” and “stay strong!” And that is absolutely insane. Amber is a violent person. We know this, and we’ve seen it many times. We saw her assault Gary more than once back in the day on Teen Mom, and of course there was that reunion where she tried to hit Farrah . In her time with Matt Baier, we heard reports as well as statements from both of them that led many to believe that they may have been violent with each other. And now there’s all this new stuff with Andrew — and remember, while she denied the machete part, she did admit to beating him with the shoe. She is mentally ill, and she’s been very open about how much she struggles with her illnesses, and we definitely believe her, but the fact is that mental illness is just not an excuse for behaving like this. Many people with Amber’s same diagnosis manage to go through life without hurting the people close to them like this, and honestly, it’s pretty bizarre that so many people are defending her right now. Still, it has the ability to catch us off guard when we least expect it, in the most unassuming places. Today’s example comes from a children’s cartoon. According to Shadow and Act, a cartoon called “Dina and the Prince Story,” from the children’s YouTube channel MyPinguTV, showed the main character, Dinah losing her beauty. The loss of her beauty was punishment for speaking, which she had been forbidden to do. The problem just wasn’t about her losing her beauty for speaking. (That’s another topic for another day.) The bigger, more glaring issue is the fact that when Dina “lost” her beauty, she was transformed into a Black woman, with big, curly hair. When the Prince comes and sees that her appearance has changed, she explains that the reason she’s “ugly” is because she disobeyed. Hard to believe, but it’s been two months since Meghan Markle gave birth to baby Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. (His name is also a bit difficult to fathom, but we’ll leave that conversation for another time.) From the start of their relationship, of course, Meghan and Prince Harry have made it clear that they intend to break with royal tradition in a number of small but significant ways. So it’s no surprise that Meghan has been accused of breaching royal protocol with her etiquette, her attire, her tendency to breathe in and out without muttering “God save the Queen” with each exhalation, etc. And it’s also not shocking that the British media is wagging its collective finger at Harry and Meg for allegedly acting more like a Hollywood couple than a duke and duchess with regard to little Archie. First, they took flak for making Archie’s christening a private affair, with just a few select members of the press on hand. Harry “is acting like an A-lister over Archie’s christening, not a royal,” claims royal biographer Peggy Junor, adding: “I think they have made a big mistake that could backfire on them.” Now, a new non-existent crisis has captured the attention of the tabloid press, as reporters were shocked — shocked! — to learn that Archie had zero interaction with Prince William and Kate Middleton’s kids for the first two months of his life. Yes, this tidbit was revealed to The Daily Mail, when royal correspondent Emily Andrews revealed that Archie met his cousins for the first time at a recent polo match: “It was interesting actually, that polo match, because it was the first time that Charlotte and George had actually met Archie,” Andrews told the Mail. “They hadn’t actually met him for two months, so that polo match was lovely.” But before you go getting your knickers in a twist about Meghan keeping Archie from her in-laws (aka, the narrative that Piers Morgan will probably be flapping his jowls about on Good Morning Britain tomorrow), you should note that it’s only the kids who went that long without seeing Archie: “Yes Kate and Will had been there to see Archie at Frogmore Cottage, but they hadn’t taken their children with them,” Andrews said. “So that was the moment at the polo match where all three of the Cambridge kids got to meet Archie.” So there you have it. The jury’s still out with regard to whether or not Meghan and Harry moved to Frogmore Cottage to get away from Will and Kate, but at least we know they’re not keeping their kid from his royal cousins. Three of the adults are being charged with assault, domestic battery and child endangerment just to name a few. You hear one of the people in the fight say, “I’m ready to go to jail tonight.” That person seems to also reference a Southern California gang. Just before the fight breaks out, you hear someone in the video talk about disrespecting family. You see a woman spit on the guy in pink and all hell breaks loose. One of the people charged — 35-year-old Avery Robinson (the guy in pink) was hit with 5 felonies for allegedly beating up his girlfriend. He’s charged with domestic battery and assault with a deadly weapon. And, since his kid was in the middle of the fight, along with 3 other children, he’s also been charged with child abuse and endangerment. Barrington Irving, then allow us the esteemed honor of introducing him to you. Back in 2007 Capt. Irving set a Guinness Book World Record when he became the first Black man and the youngest person ever to circumnavigate the globe. He was only 23 years old. His journey to accomplishing this feat goes back to his teenage years when he first decided that he wanted to take his talents to the clear blue skies. The South Florida native was in a store when he was struck by the presence of a freshly-dressed man who was exiting a brand new Lincoln Navigator Captain Irving tells BOSSIP exclusively. This man had all the trappings of a successful professional, but there was something different about him. That man, Captain Robinson, approached a young Barrington and asked if he had ever considered becoming a pilot. “I replied that I didn’t believe he was smart enough to be a pilot, but just out of curiosity, I asked the pivotal question, “How much money do you make?” Whatever that number was, it made quite an impression on the soon-to-be Captain, “That’s all I needed to hear. I was going to be a pilot.” Captain Irving would go on to reject several football scholarships and graduate Magna Cum Laude from Florida Memorial University with the dream of inspiring children in a legendary way. He wanted to be the first Black man to fly around the globe but had no money and no access to a plane, so he built one himself. But not without a little finessing… Irving researched the companies that supplied parts for airline companies and put a plan in motion to gather individual airplane parts one-by-one until he had a fully functional aircraft, with a few exceptions. Captain Irving took his record-setting flight without much of the modern equipment that pilots rely on heavily to maintain the safest flying conditions possible. After smooth-talking his way into the office of an engine company’s CEO, Barrington was able to convince the executive to give him a free plane engine. The rest, as they say, is history. Upon returning from his historic voyage, Captain Irving put his heart and soul into the non-profit organization he founded called Experience Aviation that is dedicated to bridging the gap between STEM awareness and skills by using aviation to build STEM aptitudes in students. In order to expand the work, Irving developed a curriculum called Flying Classroom that creates content for school to give K-8 kids lessons on how STEM can be used in practical ways in a variety of career paths. As a South Florida native, this program appealed to the children in the area and for four years, one of those children was none-other than Trayvon Martin. Much like Barrington, Trayvon put down the football and picked up a book and some tools to learn how to build an airplane. Sadly, that dream was taken from Trayvon while many of the kids who were in Build & Soar with him went on to become successful contributors to the aviation industry.
