Every girl around her age in her southern Malawi village would attend the rite of passage, known as an initiation camp. They counted down to what seemed like summer camp. “We were happy, because we didn’t know what was there,” she said. When she got there, the messages she heard stunned her. “You should sleep with a man and get rid of child ‘dust.’ If you don’t do it, your body will get diseased.” A demonstration involved one girl lying down, with one of the older women on top. “You should be dancing and have a man on top of you, making him happy,” she was told. At age 10, Grace was being taught how to have sex. Like the other girls in the village, Grace had been sent to camp with her family’s blessings. Neither trafficked nor forced to work in the sex trade, she was attending a time-honored ritual passed through generations. “Everyone makes sure their child goes to initiation ceremony because you will not be accepted in the community,” said Jean Mweba, an education program specialist for reproductive health and adolescent health at the United Nations Population Fund. “It’s an issue of being accepted in the community.” This is sad and crazy all at once. To think that this practice is common and affecting multitudes of young girls is heartbreaking.
Woman Used Stun Gun To Discipline Children People really don’t give a fawk. According to Orlando Sentinel: Misbehavior in a Kissimmee household resulted in an hour-long punishment called “the electric chair” with shocks from a stun gun for three children under 10, according to police. Their caregiver defended the practice by telling a detective she only threatened her cousin’s kids with the electricity zapping between the stun-gun’s metal prongs. Police believed the children and charged Letina Smith late Thursday with three counts of child abuse after the two brothers and their sister gave similar accounts of receiving painful shocks. Osceola County school officials reported the possible abuse shortly after 2 p.m. when the sister asked her teacher at Sunrise Elementary School not to call her home and say she had misbehaved in class, according to the arrest report. “(She) explained that the punishment was to get touched with a ‘taser,’” the report stated. “The electric chair consists of the child who is in trouble holding themselves… with their back on the wall and their legs forming a chair. They have to stay there for an hour and if they speak or move Letina will come up to them with the electrical weapon, “taser,” and activate and touch them with it.” The state Department of Children and Families is also investigating. DCF handles on average 3,600 child abuse complaints every month in its 12-county region including Central Florida. “I can only recall one other ( that involved a stun gun) but we do see all types of what we could consider ‘bizarre’ punishment,” DCF spokeswoman Carrie Proudfit wrote in an email to the Orlando Sentinel. At first the parents were surprised, though the same-sex couple was quickly welcomed into their home. Kate Gosselin is a wannabe celebrity who cut off ties with her family and hasn’t talked to her own relatives in years, according to her bitter sister. Kendra Wilber is speaking out publicly for the first time, claiming she’s heartbroken that she hasn’t seen her eight nieces and nephews in many years. Kate rejects all attempts at a reconciliation, Kendra says, despite the fact that Wilber lives just a few miles from Gosselin’s home in rural Pennsylvania. “Kate does not speak to her family at all. Despite being charged with three felony counts of welfare fraud, Nadya Suleman is still receiving fiscal assistance from the government, a new report says. “Nadya applied for welfare in Orange County when she moved last year … she is currently receiving at least $2,000 in benefits monthly,” a source said. Still. Radar reports that the criminal charges alleging that she illegally collected more welfare than her allotted level haven’t stopped her from doing so. Octomom is capped at pocketing $119,000 in a calendar year (due to the fact that she has 14 dependents, she can collect that robust sum in public aid). Financial records showed she took home $150,248.77 in 2012, then failed to report $30,000 in earnings while raking in public assistance in 2013. The single mom had been collecting welfare in Los Angeles County, then moved to Orange County, and continued collecting government assistance. How can a mother kill her own daughters? Mother Kills Daughters In Murder-Suicide She could have given the children to family members if life was too much for her instead of killing them. According to Standard-Examiner: Police today identified a woman and her two children who were found shot to death inside a Syracuse home Tuesday. The victims are identified as Kyler Ramsdell-Oliva, 32, Kenadee Oliva, 13, and 7-year-old Isabella Oliva.; Kyler was the mother of the two girls. All three females suffered gunshot wounds, Syracuse police said in a press release. The bodies have been taken to the state medical examiner’s office in Salt Lake City for autopsy; actual cause of death will not be known until the investigation is complete. Syracuse Police Department spoke to several persons of interest, including Kyler’s fiance. At this point it appears to be a murder-suicide situation. The situation is still considered an active investigation so further details cannot be released at this time, officers said. They also said there were frequent domestic issues at the house and, in fact, police responded to the home about 6 p.m. Monday. This is an all around tragic situation. Shutterstock
