Bolitics: ATL Mayor Kasim Reed Confirms Support Of Gay Marriage

ATL Mayor Kasim Reed Confirms Support Of Gay Marriage Following the foot steps of states like Washington, D.C., New York and Massachusetts, ATL mayor Kasim Reed has now confirmed that he is in support of gay marriage. via Politico In another sign of the rapid evolution of the politics of gay marriage, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed announced Tuesday that he supports marriage equality. “It is well known that I have gone through a good bit of reflection on this issue, but listening to the stories of so many people that I know and care about has strengthened my belief that marriage is a fundamental right for everyone. Loving couples, regardless of their sexual orientation, should have the right to marry whomever they want. By signing this resolution, I pledge my support to marriage equality for same-sex couples, consistent with equal protection under the law provided under the Fourteenth Amendment of the United States Constitution.” Reed’s statement comes seven months after he explained that he is “still wrestling with my own personal beliefs on the issue of marriage,” the non-committal position he took after President Obama formally endorsed gay marriage in May. This is a pretty big deal for obvious reasons, including the fact that Mayor Reed did not initially back President Obama’s bombshell decision to publicly support same-sex marriage. Would your state official’s change of heart on this issue have an effect on your own stance? Image via Shutterstock

The Super-Side Eye: Ratchet RihRih Compares Relationship With Breezy To Whitney Houston And Bobby Brown

Maybe she meant Ike and Tina…. Rihanna Compares Relationship To Whitney Houston And Bobby Brown Rihanna and Chris Brown have been rumored to be back together for months, and these days it’s almost certain the entertainers are a couple once again, but according to new reports Rihanna’s view of their relationship is more than a little alarming. Via HuffingtonPost reports: HollywoodLife reports that Rihanna has been telling friends that her romance with Brown reminds her another famous couple — Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown. A source revealed to the website that Whitney and Bobby’s song “Something In Common” perfectly describes her feelings for Chris. “Their relationship is like the early Whitney and Bobby day. Ri was watching Bobby and Whitney’s “Something In Common” video the other day and said ‘This is just like Chris and me. For real though, that’s the type of fun we having right now. I love Whitney. She was my girl. Can’t nobody do it better than her,” the source told HollywoodLIfe, adding that you can see her relationship with Chris is “real love … like ain’t no bullshi**ng. The s**t is magical and it’s real.” Of course the comparison between the two couples is rather unsettling if it’s something Rihanna is romanticizing. The 24-year-old “Diamonds” singer was brutally beaten by Brown in 2009, and Whitney and Bobby’s relationship was not without its own violence. In 2003, Bobby was charged with misdemeanor battery for hitting Whitney and reportedly threatening to “beat her azz.” RihRih and Breezy deserve each other, can we just let them happen? However, comparing your love life to Whitney and Bobby’s disastrous marriage might not be the best idea. We all know how that ended…

ChitChatter: Khloe Kardashian Says She And Lammykins Are Proof The Couple That Prays Together Stays Together

So it’s prayer that’s been keeping Khloé and Lamar together? We’re sure all the reality tv checks, fragrance money and other endorsements have nothing to do with it! Via PEOPLE reports : “We are very spiritual and we say our prayers with each other every night. He will lead the prayers and it is so sweet,” Kardashian said. “Sometimes his plane will land in the next city [at 4 a.m.] and he will still call me and we say our prayers. If I’m asleep and don’t answer he will text me a prayer. It keeps us together.” Aw isn’t that sweet? Khloe also says that Lamar is somewhat of a Luddite, so she won’t be getting him any electronics for Christmas. “Kourtney asked, ‘Would Lamar like an iPad mini for Christmas?’” I said, ‘Absolutely not!’ He would have no idea what to do with,” Khloé Kardashian told reporters Thursday after The X Factor. “He’d be, like, ‘I can’t write on this thing.’ “ Despite his technological ineptitude, Odom does brave Skype to stay connected with his wife while playing away games with the Los Angeles Clippers. “I have to walk him through it on the phone and it takes forever,” Kardashian joked of getting her husband to use video chatting service. “He’s just not a very big electronics person.”

Quote Of The Day: Breezy Calls Love An Obstacle He “Hasn’t Yet Mastered”

That’s an understatement. Chris Brown gets up close and reeeeeeeeeallly personal in a new magazine feature. In an interview with XXL Magazine Chris Brown addresses his critics and admits he still has some things to learn: “In the beginning, I used to be hot. I’m normal. I’m human, so if anybody says something that’s a lie, I’m numb to it. I’ve smartened up.” Clearly this interview was done before the whole deleting Twitter incident went down… On Beef With Drizzy And Meek : “A lot of people wanna know about the whole situation with me, Drake and Meek Mill. At the end of the day, I’m me, they’re them. They rap, I sing. Totally different caliber. I rap, I play around on mixtapes. But our words don’t collide as much as you’d think.” Forget about words. We’re talking about bottles. On Twitter : “I haven’t been as mature and thought out in the past, so, me growing now, it’s showing my progression. I used to use my Twitter account to vent, but now I mostly use it for marketing and promotions. Even if the media asks me something, if it’s cool then it’s, ‘What’s up?’ But if it’s anything that’s too negative, I don’t care to respond.” Again, this had to be a pre-Jenny Johnson answer. On Love : “One thing people often want me to talk about is my public love life. When it comes to my love life, the perception seems as though I am a player. But that’s not true. Love is something I am still learning. It’s just an obstacle that I haven’t yet mastered. I think that’s my biggest hurdle in life.” We can’t say for sure if it’s his biggest hurdle, but clearly Breezy has some work to do in the love department. Right now we’d say keeping Rihanna happy is probably his biggest hurdle in life.

A Lil Positivity: Evander Holyfield’s Daughter Evette Talks Being A 27-Year-Old Virgin And Tells Young Girls Why They Should Wait – “Honestly, It’s Been Easy For Me..”

27-Year-Old Virgin Evette Holyfield Encourages Young Girls To Save Themselves For Marriage Former boxing champ Evander Holyfield might have to pick and choose his battles when it comes to things like child support and home foreclosure , but he seems to have done something right with one of his 9,9870 eleven children. Holyfield’s 27-Year-old daughter Evette credits her father with teaching her the importance of saving herself for marriage, and she even spends some of her time encouraging young women to do the same. She recently sat down with Essence to share her views on abstinence and her choice to remain a virgin until marriage: ESSENCE.COM: When did you decide to be abstinent until marriage? EVETTE HOLYFIELD: We grew up in a Christian home. When I was around six years old, my dad said to me, “You don’t need to have sex outside of marriage.” He went through the whole spiel with me. So as I grew up, I thought, okay dad, if you don’t want me to do it, I’m not gonna do it. Then I started to really understand church – the words in the Bible and what the pastor is really saying. At that point, I wasn’t just doing it because my dad said don’t, but rather, I now believe that by waiting, God will bless me and bring me a great husband. ESSENCE.COM: Has it been a difficult decision for you? HOLYFIELD: Honestly, it’s easy for me. I was in a three-year relationship, and I never had those desires for him in that way. He never pressured me. In my mind, I already have it set that I’m not gonna do it, so if someone were to pressure me, it wouldn’t even phase me. I just don’t have those desires. ESSENCE.COM: How do your girlfriends react to your stance? Women can be emotional bullies too. HOLYFIELD: My sister is a virgin, and I have a couple of friends who are virgins too. Some women have said to me, “Why would anyone want to date you if you haven’t had sex?” I ask them, “Why would anyone want to date someone who has slept with the whole world?” Having sex with a man is not what’s going to set you apart. What’s going to set you apart is what’s in your head. Evette also gave her two cents on whether or not she thinks other women should follow in her footsteps.. ESSENCE.COM: Do you encourage others to make the decision you have? HOLYFIELD:I have talked to young groups of kids at different schools about the keys to success, and one of the secrets I tell the young girls is to preserve themselves and their bodies and not to give them away to someone who doesn’t deserve it. Guys are going to treat you how you allow them to, and if you don’t respect yourself and feel like you’re worth something, then you will feel like you should do whatever a man wants you to. ESSENCE.COM: Should every woman wait until marriage? HOLYFIELD: I would prefer if women waited to have sex, but I know it’s unrealistic to think that all women are going to think like me. I think women should make a list of what they really want in a man. Then, wait, really stick to your guns, and have faith that God is going to give you that person. If women did that, it would save them a lot of heartache. Never settle. Good for her. You can check out the full Essence interview with Evette here . Photo Credit: Evette Holyfield

Friends In High Places: T.I. Reveals How Will Smith Tried Getting Obama To Have Him Released From The Slammer!

It’s comeback season for Clifford ! The rapper/actor is set to drop his new album “Trouble Man: Heavy Is the Head” next month and in preparation he’s making his rounds with the media. In an interview with Billboard Magazine , T.I. talks about doing his time, making a comeback and his plans for the future: You’re turning in the album tomorrow. How does it feel? [laughs] It’s a blessing. It’s a blessing to be at this stage in my career and continue to have, I guess, enough relevance to have an anticipated project. I’m real proud of it — I just hope everybody else will enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it. Originally, you were looking at an early fourth-quarter, late third-quarter release. Now, here we are moving into December. Why the date shift? It wasn’t ready. I knew that this was a moment for me, and I had to dedicate the necessary time, attention and energy to ensuring that it would be of the classic proportion that I feel the fans deserve. I could have settled. I could have put an album out in September, but I still was on probation, which would have limited the amount of travel that I could do. So that was another factor that was extremely important. And all the songs that I’ve done since then, they take it over the top. You mentioned the significance of this album for your career. Can you talk a bit about that? It goes without saying that it’s hard to attain a certain level of success. And it’s hard to maintain this level of success and even more difficult when one is separated from your environment, especially if you’re separated from the environment due to negative reasons. So coming back, most people aren’t able to. And if you try to come back and you don’t make it, it’s probably lights out. To half-a$$ and take it lightly could end up catastrophic. There are those who say that when rappers go to jail it makes them hot. What’s your take on that? I tell you what: If it did, I’d give it back in a second for the time that I lost. I can say that it has made me more famous, and people probably know my situation more than they know my music. However, it also interrupted a lot of very lucrative and noteworthy opportunities. In my case, I lost as much as I gained, probably. You lost a lot of corporate sponsorships along the way. How are you finding those conversations today, now that you’ve been out for a year? A lot of people are open to it. Everyone knows that America has a short-term memory and they’re very forgetful and forgiving. I mean, I haven’t even went out and checked. Don’t get me wrong. When it’s time to sponsor events for us, we don’t have a shortage of takers. A lot of people want to be associated with our brand to create awareness of their brand, and they recognize our relevance and our influence on the marketplace. Now as far as people calling to make me the face of their brand, there has been nothing that I have taken seriously as of yet. People have inquired about building brands around my face and about building brand-new brands from scratch more so than associating me to an existing brand, with the exception of the Atlanta Hawks. We’ve had this very, very positive working relationship with the Atlanta Hawks for quite some time, and just recently they called me to broadcast two quarters of the Hawks game when they played the Miami Heat for Fox Sports South, and I had fun. They would like to further the relationship and see how we could do more together. There’s obviously a good track record for music and NBA partnerships. You know what? Right now, I’m so focused on “Trouble Man,” I’m not even really looking past Dec. 18. For this to be the absolute best body of work it could be, I had to turn stuff down. I had to have tunnel vision. Of course, I broke away for a month or two and I went and I did a movie. And I did a season of “Boss.” But when I was doing that, when my attention was divided, the music wasn’t working. So it required me to totally shut everything else off and dedicate myself 100% just in building this album. And that’s the mind-set that I’m in: how to create the most awareness and anticipation for this album to be a classic. Do you have your eye on a big spring tour? Yeah, definitely. I just got to see what the most lucrative, reasonable opportunity is for me. I would like to focus more on my international presence. Due to my circumstances, a lot of people that know my music, know who I am and want to see me, but haven’t had the opportunity because I haven’t been afforded the opportunity to travel abroad. Now that I can, I would like to strengthen my international presence. I’ve never been to Africa. I’ve never been to China. Aside from seeing the world and living life, it’s leaving a lot of money on the table. For an artist of my caliber, the global awareness of T.I. being a multiplatinum artist is probably the weakest of all the other multiplatinum artists simply because I haven’t gone. Usually when most people take time to go do a tour, I do a movie. When they do international dates, I do a movie. And that’s why I’m probably the strongest in film of the multiplatinum artists because I took the time to do movies rather than touring abroad. So it’s a balance. Just like Justin Timberlake, he took time off music completely to only focus on film, and that’s probably why he’s the most strongly recognized singer-slash-actor in the game today. You put time into things and cultivate these opportunities and the amount of effort and energy you put in is the amount of result you’ll see back from it-if you’re any good at least. What is it about acting do you enjoy? Is it the process? The payday? The exposure? To be honest, all of the above. Well, I can’t say the payday. I ain’t had a huge payday yet. But it’s a different level of respect associated with it and it surprises people. I enjoy shocking the isht out of folks. And at this level in my career, I can make an outstanding, phenomenal album, I can release an insanely successful and critically revered single, but people are going to say, “Ah, yeah, that’s T.I., he’s been doing that for years.” Now, if I happen to be in a critically acclaimed film nominated for a Golden Globe or an Academy Award, then people are surprised and shocked. Through the years, you’ve mentioned different people being supportive of everything you’ve gone through, including Eminem. Who else has been there to help? As you mentioned, of course, Em. He was extremely supportive and inspirational during that time. Busta Rhymes, Puffy, Lyor Cohen, Russell Simmons, Nelly, David Banner, Charlie Mack, Will Smith. Will actually went as far as getting in touch with [attorney general] Eric Holder and the Obama administration trying to see if we could get some kind of release. He was very politely told that was not possible. [laughs] Really? It was the last time I was going back, and I was going to court for my probation violation. He was in deep discussions about it. And he’s been a huge contributor to the administration, and I mean not just in finances, I’m talking about time and other kinds of efforts, so it ain’t like his words were falling on deaf ears. But I understood. I didn’t even expect no help. I didn’t expect nobody to be able to help me. I knew I made my bed and I knew I had to lay in it. Pure comedy. Can you imagine what Bill O’Reilly would have had to say if Obama had given T.I. a pardon? We’re really feelin’ Tip’s latest single and are hoping the new album is all at that same level. Will you be picking up Trouble Man when it lands in stores?

Ashton Kutcher Says He Hopes To Be Married With A Child In 5 Years Despite the fact that he’s still in the middle of a messy divorce that has barely even begun yet, former Demi Moore Hollyweird boy toy Ashton Kutcher is already planning for the future that doesn’t include his bitter and betrayed ex-wifey. via Celebrity Cafe Tabloid fixtures Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis were spotted in Rome on Friday night, holding hands and leaving Checchino in the Trastevere quarter, where they enjoyed a romantic, intimate evening together. According to the New York Daily News, the couple is hitting up the ancient location because Kunis is filming her latest flick, The Third Person. Kunis and Kutcher have been dating for over five months now, following the Two and Half Men star’s split from Demi Moore, 50. Kunis told Glamour magazine in August, “In five years, I do hope to have a family. I’d rather be in love and have a baby than a movie.” Word on the street is that Ashton is stalling on moving forward with the divorce proceedings because he doesn’t want to break Demi off with that good ol’ gwap since he was the one who cheated. Mila must not mind being in the middle of it all…
