When asked about their latest collabo recently the candid rapper gave a lukewarm response, saying: “Eh, you know, for me, for me, hip-hop I want, and we were saying this earlier, I want to hear stuff that I haven’t heard before. So like 99 percent of the hip-hop that I hear these days is just the same.” “And it just kind of gets like, ‘What am I listening to it for?’ And for me, that’s just keeping it 100. It might be good; the beat is dope, lyrics might be whatever, technical things. But at the end of the day, it’s like, ‘Why am I listening to this?’” Lupe, you mad? Eric Benet continues to fight to free his song “Redbone Girl” from the shackles of the deeply rooted color complex in the African American community. You tell us if you think he was successful? Eric Benet had black people of all shades seeing red when he dropped “Redbone Girl,” a song that found Benet and guest Lil Wayne fawning over a “caramel cream”-colored female (aka “redbone”). In a recent interview with CBS Local, Benet responded to critics who called him out for playing to conventional standards of beauty that value light skin over dark. “I think it’s its own form of racism,” he told CBS Local of the controversy. “I did a song called “Chocolate Legs’ about my experience with a dark skin lady. There was no anger or uproar of ‘How dare you.’ So ‘Redbone Girl’ is one song about one experience about a girl who happens to be light complected but there was quite an uproar.” To be sure, Benet isn’t the only artist who has made a song that emphasizes a type of skin color. India.Arie made a splash in 2001 with “Brown Skin,” on which she waxes poetic about a lover who shares her “mahogany” brown skin. But some argue that Benet’s focus on the woman’s light skin, which has been associated with privilege, downplays darker skin by default. As far as Benet is concerned, there is a double standard when it comes to how society and singers can express themselves about a woman’s beauty in the black community. “You can talk about how wonderful it is to be with a dark complected person but how dare you talk about having an experience experience with light skin person,” he said. “By no way is ‘Redbone Girl’ me professing my preference for any type of skin color. It’s just the songwriter talking about one experience. When people look into it much deeper than that, it’s on them.” To be sure, Benet is not oblivious to the longtime issues of race and colorism within the black community. He opens ”Redbone Girl” with a type of disclaimer that he hoped would inoculate him against such charges. “I love all women,” he says on the song’s introduction. “I love them dark and light. Short, tall, thick, thin and back one more ‘gain.” While Eric Benet does attempt to provide some sort of balance with a separate song and a disclaimer, Lil Wayne takes a less nuanced approach on “Redbone Girl.” He raps about the pleasures of a lighter skin girls in general terms, as if he’s taking a 2012 version of the “Doll Test.” “I like the long hair, thick redbone…I like ‘em lights-kinned, lighter than a feather…” Benet says no matter which side of the argument you stand, songs like “Redbone Girl” ultimately provide an opportunity to have the discussion about how blacks view each other. “I think the fact that we are talking about it, it’s an issue,” he said. “Now it makes me, on my next record, want to talk about an experinece with an Asian girl. What I was trying to do as a songwriter is talk about the beauty of all. One at a time. The fact that it’s so sensitive, we need to talk about it.” What do you think? The American Idol alum looked amazing in a blue two-piece bikini showing off her slim figure, toned abs and even tighter thighs. Jordin has worked hard over the last couple of years to shed the pounds and says her health fears fueled her determination. “I just wanted to be healthy. It was just before my 21st birthday. I had walking pneumonia, couldn’t breathe and felt totally fatigued,” Jordin told the publication. “I remember thinking, ‘I’m in my prime. I should be happy and fit.’ That was the moment when I decided that changes needed to be made.” Jordin, who has impressively lost 50lbs, says she is still shocked that she is parading around in a tiny bikini. “For me to even be talking about bikini confidence is crazy. If you had asked me a couple of months ago, I probably would have been like, ‘What are you talking about…’. The TV personality made headlines months ago when he claimed Trayvon Martin was killed because of his hoodie not because of his race. Now, Rivera is standing by his statement, reports The Root. Rivera appeared on Fox News on Friday to discuss Chicago’s rising murder rate. He claims that some of the city’s homicides occurred because victims wore “thug wear.” He went on to say, “I was right about the hoodie wasn’t I. I hate to brag but I got criticized by every pundit in America when I said Trayvon Martin would be alive but for the fact that he was wearing thug wear… he was was wearing the hoodie. Now, Potter has her sights set on losing weight, and she’s turned to marathon sex sessions to help shed the pounds. In an interview with the UK’s Closer magazine, Potter described how her reignited sex life with her ex-hubby Alex has helped her lose 98 pounds. “I can’t move much in bed, but I burn 500 calories a session –- it’s great exercise just jiggling around,” Potter told Closer. Potter, who had been consuming 10,000 calories a day, hopes to reach her goal weight of 532 pounds with the help of Alex. The two have sex up to seven times each day. She makes sure to have some fun, too. “We love foreplay and massages and, as well as full sex, I pleasure Alex, too,” she told the magazine. “My bed is strengthened and, although I can’t buy sexy lingerie, I drape a nice sheet over me.” When Alex got wind of the publicity surrounding Potter, he decided to visit her and the flame was quickly rekindled. “Within the first day of being back together we had sex six times in 24 hours,” Alex told the Sun last November. “Even though one of Pauline’s legs weighs more than I do, we’re able to position her body to make sex enjoyable for both of us.” Alex, who weighs just 140 pounds, does most of the work in the bedroom. “It’s really dangerous for us to have sex because at any moment the bed could collapse and one or both of us could be seriously injured or even killed from the impact,” he told the Sun. Don’t beef with the Biebs! Justin Bieber Hangs Up On Disrespectful Radio DJ Mid-Interview Justin Bieber recently graduated high school, but the 18-year-old still has a lot of growing up to do. In a recent interview with a morning radio show, “Mojo in the Morning,” Justin Bieber quickly became agitated when radio host Mojo commented on his similarities with former popstar Justin Timberlake. “I hope you take this as a compliment,” said Mojo. “When I first got played the song by your record people, and this was months and months before it came out, they said ‘Take a listen to this and tell me if you can tell me who this is.’ I thought it was Justin Timberlake.” “When I heard ‘Boyfriend’ for the very first time,” he continued. “I thought it was Justin Timberlake’s single.” Unfortunately, Bieber didn’t take it as a compliment. “Man, that’s crazy because our voices sound nothing alike,” he said. “I mean, I’m not trying to sound like anyone. Saying I sound like someone else is not really a compliment. … I think if you were to say ‘I heard some Justin Timberlake-esque things in your sound,’ I would take that as a compliment.” Problem is, Justin has said NUMEROUS times that he takes such comments as compliments. That represents change in Bieber’s message. The singer admitted in May that he was “definitely” influenced by Timberlake on “Boyfriend.” “[Timberlake] was young, and he did it, and he was really amazing and had such amazing music,” Bieber told MTV’s Sway Calloway. “I can’t say that I would be upset when someone compares me to him.” That was a lil’ touchy, but this next part is just downright fawking awkward. While Bieber has some conflicting opinions about his relationship with Justin Timberlake’s sound, that’s nothing compared to the reaction he had when Mojo decided to bring up Bieber’s mother. Asked if he was afraid One Direction’s Harry Styles might end up seducing his mother, given his penchant for older women, Bieber went on the offensive. “I mean, definitely somewhat [I am friends with One Direction now]. They were in town a while ago and they came over and stuff, but, yeah, they’re good kids,” he said when asked about his friendship with the Brit boy banders, before adding, “I don’t think you should worry about me [and my mom with Harry Styles] — Worry about your mom, bro.” Mojo then noted that his mother had passed away, before Bieber hung up on the call.
