‘Glee’ Stars Are All For A Possible Michael Jackson Episode

The stars talk about working songs like ‘Bad’ into an MJ-themed show on the Teen Choice Awards red carpet. By Mawuse Ziegbe, with reporting by Kara Warner Matthew Morrison Photo: MTV News They’ve done Lady Gaga . They’ve covered Madonna . A Britney Spears episode is in the works. One pop star at a time, “Glee” has been putting its cheery spin on the repertoires of some of music’s biggest names. However, many fans are waiting for the “Glee” crew to represent the legacy of one hitmaking luminary in particular: Michael Jackson. Rumors have been swirling that an MJ-themed episode could be headed to TV screens, and several castmembers told MTV News at the Teen Choice Awards on Sunday night (August 8) that they would love to take a crack at the King of Pop’s legendary jams. “That would be pretty cool,” Matthew Morrison mused on the red carpet. “He is probably the best and most iconic performer in the history of music,” Morrison declared. Jenna Ushkowitz said taking on Jackson’s music would be a daunting but nonetheless incredible challenge. “That’s a scary, scary episode to do,” the actress said. “[But] that would be absolutely amazing.” “So You Think You Can Dance” judge Adam Shankman has been confirmed to helm an episode of “Glee,” and some reports have suggested that he might be dreaming up choreography for a Jackson tribute. Ushkowitz added that regardless of which episode he takes charge of, the cast is amped to have the director in the fold. “We’re so excited to have Adam Shankman,” she said. “He’s incredible.” With Shankman at the wheel, a dance-heavy Jackson show could be in order. But while Amber Riley said “she would love to do a Michael Jackson episode,” the actress prefers the entertainer’s smoother fare. “My favorite song by him is ‘Human Nature,’ ” Riley said. Harry Shum Jr., who wows “Glee” audiences with his footwork, seemed really excited by the prospect of an episode dedicated to the Gloved One. “That’s so awesome,” Shum said. “You’re part of a show that is paying homage to all these great artists and to be able see your childhood dreams … like, ‘Oh I would love to do that’ [not] just onstage but [also on] this awesome show that gets to showcase these things is great.” Heather Morris said she would love to see how the show flips Jackson’s ultimate tough-guy anthem. “I think it would be super cool to [do] the ‘Bad’ montage,” she said. “Maybe not even in the sense that it’s like the ‘Bad’ video. I’m excited to see what [‘Glee’ creator] Ryan Murphy could do with ‘Bad.’ Whatever they’re gonna do it’s gonna be hysterical.” What would you like to see in a Michael Jackson “Glee” episode? Selena Gomez, Lucy Hale Are Fashion Winners At Teen Choice Awards

Neutral hues dominate the blue carpet at awards show, which airs Monday night on Fox. By Amy Wilkinson Selena Gomez at the 2010 Teen Choice Awards Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images Fans curious about which stars took home surfboards from the Teen Choice Awards will have to wait until Monday (August 9), when the event is broadcast on Fox. But we’ve already selected the winners and losers from the show’s blue carpet, where the night’s invited guests parade their fashion choices for the evening. For the ladies, the evening’s preferred color palette was anything neutral, including midnight blacks and pearly whites. “Ramona and Beezus” star Selena Gomez was among the style standouts, wearing a white dress with flowy sleeves that were complemented by soft waves in her hair. “Eclipse” star Ashley Greene also shifted into neutral for the evening, wearing a light pink dress that had lace detailing. (There was also a ring on her left ring finger — wonder what that’s all about?) Also putting a spin on the trend was “Pretty Little Liars” actress Lucy Hale, whose little black dress was accented by a sparkly blue mosaic on the bust and gold buckles on the straps and at the waist. Though many fashion experts would argue that you can’t go wrong with an LBD, a couple of actresses’ outfits provided a counterpoint to that theory. “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” star Shailene Woodley looked downright dowdy in her shredded-sleeve black dress and upswept bun; the button-festooned black frock worn by Katerina Graham from “The Vampire Diaries” was also a head-scratcher. The starlets who did eschew the night’s black and white theme opted for rich, jewel-toned hues. “Victorious” actress Victoria Justice matched the blue carpet in her cute strapless dress. Fivel Stewart, the sister of “Eclipse” actor Booboo Stewart, sported a sheer-sleeved frock with a colorful, doily-type embroidery around the neckline. Several “Glee” gals were harmonious in their choice for rich shades; Amber Riley grabbed attention in a belted fuchsia number, while Lea Michele opted for a sparkly ensemble in forest green and nude. Green wasn’t such a friend to Emma Roberts, however, as she looked rather washed out in her strapless olive-colored mini dress. For the guys, it was all about channeling James Dean, with many sporting variations on the theme of leather jackets and slicked-back ‘dos. “The Vampire Diaries” star Ian Somerhalder smoldered in his leather (though he sadly kept his hair covered with a fedora), while “Glee” actor Kevin McHale complemented his hair-raising style with a striped purple shirt and black tie. Though many men chose to keep it casual in button-downs and V-neck tees, a few of the men took advantage of below-average temperatores in Los Angeles and classed it up with variations on the suit. “Glee” star Cory Monteith’s black suit and tie were given an extra edge by a pair of black sneaks, while “Fringe” star Joshua Jackson looked quite dapper in his blue suit jacket, which he paired with skinny jeans. REVIEW: Tilda Swinton Dazzles in Virtuosic I Am Love

A clamorous Italian counterpart to Summer Hours, last year’s lyrical meditation on French tradition in decline, I Am Love also examines fading nationalist notions of legacy and institution through the story of a prominent family’s slow slide from grace. Or that’s one way to look at it: Bold, weird, and a little stalkerish in its intensity, Luca Guadagnino’s third feature is an open cinematic buffet, as ready to satisfy as it is to displease, depending on your taste and appetite. It lends itself to a number of persuasive primary readings — from proto-feminist awakening to sexual-identity crisis; bitter cultural critique to soaring infidelity melodrama; sui generis tour de force to sweaty exercise in the ecstasy of aesthetic influence — and has plenty of flaws that might be dwelled on as well. It’s a lot of movie; the choice is really yours.

Katy Perry Teases Her Teen Choice Awards Wardrobe

‘There’s a lot of Velcro involved,’ the host reveals to MTV News of her costume ideas. By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry Photo: MTV News The Teen Choice Awards nominations are in and as host Katy Perry gears up for her August 9 gig, she warns that just about anything is possible once she takes the stage. “What are you not gonna see? That’s the thing!” she teased to MTV News after the listening party for her Teenage Dream LP in New York City. “I mean, I always have a fantastic time hosting these types of things,” Perry added, “and pull out costume after costume after costume.” While Perry was vague about possible wardrobe choices, she did say that viewers should expect to see progressively less clothes as the night wears on. “Usually I start wearing like a layer of clothes and then I just rip off,” Perry told us. “There’s a lot of Velcro involved. But it’ll be fun and I love teenagers because [whereas] children are not jaded and just full of life … teenagers are a little like, ‘Prove to me you’re cool,’ and I’m gonna prove to you that I’m kind of cool. I am not pop-star lame, I am not hipster cool — I am somewhere in the middle.” At the MTV Movie Awards this month, Perry performed her chart-topping “California Gurls.” But the singer revealed she might try out the title single off her August 24 album, performing “Teenage Dream” at the awards show. “I think I might be doing the second single off the record. It’d be a great place … at the Teen Choice Awards because I think a lot of kids are falling in love and they will relate to that song,” she explained. “That song is kind of like feeling that way when you were a teenager: really emotional, really invested. … It’s intense being in love and being a teenager. That’s what ‘Teenage Dream’ is about.” And speaking of deeply felt adolescent love, “The Twilight Saga: New Moon,” which is up for a number of Teen Choice Awards, pretty much sums up the subject of Perry’s next single. “That’s being a teenager right there,” she agreed. “That would be that dynamic of love.” Are you excited for Katy Perry to host the Teen Choice Awards?
