The Verge: Bill Skarsgård

Look out: Here comes another Skarsgård. The fourth in the venerable Swedish acting clan to get into full-time acting after father Stellan and brothers Alexander and Gustaf (younger brother Valter may be right behind him), Bill Skarsgård arrived last week with his leading-man debut Behind Blue Skies , a ’70s-era coming-of-age tale about a Swedish teenager whose escape to a resort job yields first love, new responsibilities and — wait for it — his involvement in the biggest drug scandal in the nation’s history. Not a bad breakthrough for a kid who just few years ago used to think he’d wind up as a doctor. Movieline caught up with Skarsgård the day after the TIFF premiere of director Hannes Holm’s drama.

Remember When Last Comic Standing Became the Scariest Show on TV?

Last Comic Standing may not have a sterling reputation, but I’ve never known it to actually frighten viewers. Unfortunately, the venerable standup hour took a dark turn this week, introducing us to a “futuristic” comedian named Mr. Zed who looks like a Madame Tussaud’s rendering of Wink Martindale. Hide the kids! And the grown-ups.

REVIEW: Tilda Swinton Dazzles in Virtuosic I Am Love

A clamorous Italian counterpart to Summer Hours, last year’s lyrical meditation on French tradition in decline, I Am Love also examines fading nationalist notions of legacy and institution through the story of a prominent family’s slow slide from grace. Or that’s one way to look at it: Bold, weird, and a little stalkerish in its intensity, Luca Guadagnino’s third feature is an open cinematic buffet, as ready to satisfy as it is to displease, depending on your taste and appetite. It lends itself to a number of persuasive primary readings — from proto-feminist awakening to sexual-identity crisis; bitter cultural critique to soaring infidelity melodrama; sui generis tour de force to sweaty exercise in the ecstasy of aesthetic influence — and has plenty of flaws that might be dwelled on as well. It’s a lot of movie; the choice is really yours.

Chicago Mayor Happy For Transformers 3 Destruction

Those sissies in D.C. should take a hint from Richard Daley, the venerable and Bayhem-friendly mayor of Chicago. Daley held a press conference Wednesday to tout the Windy City’s blockbuster-readiness and to assure people that the proper precautions would be taken when Transformers 3 shoots there in July and August. “He also asked ‘everyone for our understanding’ when the filming leads to ‘street closures or other potential problems,'” noted the Chicago Tribune , clearly anticipating the overpowering stench of the script. Hang in there, folks. [ Chicago Tribune ]

Kim Kardashian: Too Mature For Reggie Bush

Kim Kardashian and Reggie Bush may be back together someday, but they’re over now. Here’s why, according to the venerable publication known as Life & Style. An insider reveals Kush split shortly after their Costa Rican getaway in early March: “It was a make-or-break vacation, and things just didn’t work,” a source says. According to sources from both sides, the biggest reason behind their surprising breakup was the difference in maturity between Kim, 29 and Reggie, who’s 25. Yes, Kim Kardashian is being described as more mature than someone. “Kim is a sophisticated businesswoman,” an insider says of the professional celebrity. “Reggie’s just a big kid. He’s not grown-up enough for her at the moment.” IT’S OVER : But is the split for good this time? A friend of the couple says it could go either way at this point. “Should they decide to stay together, it will require time and hard work on both sides,” the pal says. “Their families are rooting for the romance to work out.” What happens next could depend on Reggie Bush growing up … or not. “He’s definitely had a marriage conversation with Kim’s mom. But he’s like a child; it’s doubtful it was formal. So either there will be a ring – or they’re finished.” To his credit, he did take to Twitter this week to deny cheating on Kim . Sure, an in-person conversation might have been better, but the effort was there!
