‘Snow White And The Huntsman’ Sequel In The Works?

It’s more than a month until first Kristen Stewart film is released, but David Koepp is reportedly in talks to pen a sequel script. By Kara Warner Chris Hemsworth, and Kristen Stewart in “Snow White and the Huntsman” Photo: Universal Studios Despite the fact that we’re still a little more than a month away from the release of “Snow White and the Huntsman,” there are already rumblings of a sequel. According to Deadline , Universal has apparently already begun talking to screenwriter David Koepp about writing a sequel to the film, which is one of this summer’s most highly anticipated movies. Koepp certainly has enough credibility in drafting scripts for big blockbusters: He has screenplay credits on “Jurassic Park,” “Mission: Impossible,” “Spider-Man,” “War of the Worlds” and “Men in Black III.” Naturally, we don’t know what happens to the characters over the course of the film, but star Kristen Stewart has already expressed interest in reprising her role as the titular Snow White. “To be totally candid and honest with you, when I first signed on to this thing, the idea of doing another franchise was like, ‘Wow, [we’ll] cross that bridge when it comes.’ It was something so far outside my realm of thinking,” she told MTV News when asked if she’d be game for more action and adventure as the fairest one of all. “I was so focused on the first one, and I thought, ‘Maybe, maybe,’ but I’ve got stars in my eyes. I’m literally over the moon about what I’m doing right now,” she said of her work on “Huntsman.” “Yes, I would love to [do more ‘Snow White’ films].” “Huntsman” director Rupert Sanders is reportedly Universal’s choice to helm the sequel if it happens, and judging from his positive comments about working with Stewart , it seems likely the pair could team up again. “Kristen is a very driven, visceral, intuitive actress. From a director’s point of view, it’s great to get into her headspace,” Sanders said. “We did a lot of work together on the script and character, and she really helped inform me how that character was feeling, which really helped my process getting the character onscreen. Kristen was doing a lot of her stunt work, she was riding horses, she was jumping from high precipices into freezing cold water, she was fighting dwarves — she’s gung-ho.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Snow White and the Huntsman.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . ‘Cabin In The Woods’: The Reviews Are In!

Critics are mostly positive about Joss Whedon’s horror-movie send-up. By Kevin P. Sullivan Fran Kranz, Chris Hemsworth and Anna Hutchison in “Cabin in the Woods” Photo: Lionsgate The critics have (kinda) spoken about the latest from Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard, “The Cabin in the Woods.” The mysteries of “Cabin” have been some of the most closely guarded secrets at the movies in recent years. If you’re seeking out reviews of the buzzed-about horror flick, do so with caution. Not everyone is equally keen to keep their reviews spoiler-free. The critics are largely positive, overall. There is some concern that the film, a send-up of the horror genre, isn’t as scary as the movies it’s commenting on. Here is our spoiler-free roundup of reviews of “The Cabin in the Woods.” The Spoilers “Stop reading this review right now. Go see ‘The Cabin in the Woods,’ then come back and we can have a conversation about it. Just trust me on this. The less you know going into it, the better.” — Christy Lemire, The Associated Press The Story “Five college friends pile into a camper for a frolicsome vacation. There’s the alpha male hunk (Chris Hemsworth), his va-voom girlfriend (Anna Hutchison), the stoner and Shaggy of the group (Fran Kranz), the shy but charismatic brain (Jesse Williams) and the sympathetic, smart and not incidentally pretty hot protagonist (Kristen Connolly). Early on, we’re shown that they’re being watched very closely, and perhaps controlled, by a massive control room. Their primary handlers are played by Richard Jenkins and Bradley Whitford.” — Michael Phillips, Chicago Tribune The Whedon-verse “Some dialogue will remind audiences of the sassy sarcasm tossed off in the face of monstrous creatures in Whedon’s cult TV series ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer,’ episodes of which Goddard also co-wrote.” — Claudia Puig, USA Today The Scares “With compulsive effort that is meant to feel like giddy abandon, they have tried to make a horror movie that is frightening, original and knowing, all at the same time. Two out of three is not bad, given the difficulty of the task. A wink can sometimes undermine a scare. Novelty and genre traditionalism often fight to a draw. Too much overt cleverness has a way of spoiling dumb, reliable thrills.” — A.O. Scott, New York Times The Final Word “If ‘Scream’ was a meta-hack-’em-up, ‘Cabin’ takes five giant steps back to reveal a wider canvas, gleefully jumbling together every kind of modern horror picture, paranoid-conspiracy thrillers, ‘Matrix’-style sci-fi, and a dollop of H. P. Lovecraft. Is it scary? Not especially. But there are enough gory surprises around every bend to keep you laughing/screaming/cringing.” — David Edelstein, New York Check out everything we’ve got on “The Cabin in the Woods.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Return Of ‘Girls’ Power: HBO Series Gets It Right

Above The Buzz examines Lena Dunham’s dramedy about four women living in NYC. By Jocelyn Vena Lena Dunham in “Girls” Photo: HBO Blah, blah, blah. Yes, “Girls” is a lot like “Sex and the City” in the fact that both shows are about women — four, to be exact — living, loving and working in New York City. And that’s about it. Maybe “Girls” is the best “SATC” prequel that creator Michael Patrick King never pitched: It’s dark with little spots of comic relief, as these women try to figure out how to get it right. And they rarely do. They are stuck in jobs that seem to have no future and relationships that make them awful about themselves. Where “Sex” was all about how fabulous NYC is, “Girls” is all about how hard (and expensive) it can be to try and make a dream happen in a town where everyone has a dream. Perhaps the big difference is “Girls” is created by a young woman in the throes of her own post-adolescence angst. Lena Dunham, 25, the show’s creator , writer, director and star, truly understands what it feels like to be stuck in your mid-twenties struggling with the pains of having to grow up. In fact, her vision of this stage of life seems to be so spot-on that it got her an assist from the show’s producer, Judd Apatow. (She previously examined those similar themes in her feature film, “Tiny Furniture.”) Not to discredit “Sex.” It did an amazing job capturing life in NYC as an aspiration. You too can move to NYC, date rich, powerful dudes, afford fancy cocktails at all the hottest hot spots and glide along Fifth Avenue in Manolo Blahniks. But first you must be one of the “Girls,” who also include Allison Williams (news anchor Brian Williams’ daughter) playing Type-A gallery assistant Marnie, Jemima Kirke, a flighty, free spirited Brit Jessa and Zosia Mamet, the “SATC”-loving college student Shoshanna. Dunham plays Hannah, a writer who talks a lot about her memoir without having actually done very much to get it off the ground, relying on her parents for money. The show, which premieres Sunday on the former home of “Sex,” HBO, is about trying to have it all, but not knowing how to get it. These “Girls” are from a generation of women who have been told they can do an-y-thing. But, the problem is, as most jumped straight into their careers right out of college, they never really had the time to nail down what it is they want. This confusion leaks into their personal lives, where they battle depression and self-esteem issues. They date men they don’t care much about or who don’t care much about them. It’s an interesting breakdown of the current state of girl power: Can these girls really do an-y-thing? Well, Dunham and her pals are certainly trying to figure that out, one episode at a time. Early ‘Avengers’ Reviews Point To Fan And Box-Office Gold

Will the superhero all-star flick live up to the hype? Fans who got an early peek seem to think so. By Eric Ditzian Chris Hemsworth in “Avengers” Photo: Marvel “The Avengers,” apparently, rules. After a string of Los Angeles screenings, nerdy tastemakers have been squealing all over Twitter about what director Joss Whedon has delivered for this loooooong-in-development superhero all-star flick. “Like, double plus awesome,” declared Seth Green. “Lost” guru Damon Lindelof came up with a Twitter hashtag that’s a little too colorful to reprint here without a tweaking: . To Lindelof, I say right back: F—yeah! Because, honestly, what a relief! For a while now on “Talk Nerdy,” Brian Phares and I have been expressing worries like:

‘Cabin In The Woods’ Is A ‘Shiny Toy,’ Joss Whedon Says

Writer/producer tells MTV News the horror thriller has an ‘ absurd integrity that appeals to us.’ By Kara Warner Kristen Connolly in “The Cabin in the Woods” Photo: Lionsgate If you haven’t yet heard the buzz surrounding the upcoming horror thriller “The Cabin in the Woods” , than you must be avoiding Internet and television entirely. Everyone is talking about it , in a roundabout, non-spoilery way! In a nutshell, the film mostly revolves around four friends who drive to a distant relative’s cabin in order to spend a relaxing weekend away from their college campus. Unfortunately the group’s goals are not at all met and a series of shocking and unbelievable things happen — to everyone. When MTV News caught up with writer/producer Joss Whedon and director Drew Goddard, we asked them how in the heck they came up with the story and if any specific element or occurrence inspired the chaos that unfolds. “It’s actually kind of a dull tale because it did just pop into my head and then, of course, Drew was one of the first people I told about it,” Whedon said. “We knew instantly that this was something that we wanted to do. We took a while before we actually sat down to write it. It was like a shiny toy that we played for a long time, the structure just seemed so right. It’s very seldom that a movie occurs to you with the whole structure in place.” “Do you remember the moment when it popped into your head?” Goddard asked Whedon. “I honestly don’t remember a time I wasn’t thinking about it. It’s one of those things that seems so logical it feels like, ‘Why hasn’t this been done before?’ It has this absurd integrity that appeals to us.” “The Cabin in the Woods” opens everywhere Friday, April 13. ‘Avengers’ Cast: Who Got Roughed Up The Most?

At the film’s red-carpet premiere, the stars pick which superheroes took the hardest beating. By Kara Warner Scarlett Johansson at the premiere of “The Avengers” Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images If you’ve been following the comings and goings surrounding “Marvel’s The Avengers,” one of this year’s most highly-anticipated films, you’ve probably noticed in watching the action-packed trailers that everyone onscreen either initiates or suffers from a few decent beatings. The multiple beatings via complex fight sequences are not surprising, considering the film revolves around a group of superheroes fighting a supervillain and an unidentified alien race, but when MTV News hit up the star-studded premiere in Hollywood Wednesday (April 11), we were curious to find out who suffered the most onscreen violence. “Probably me!” lamented Chris Evans, a.k.a. Captain America. “Probably me. I don’t know, I think we all play our roles,” he added with a mischievous wiggle of his eyebrows. “We all took a pretty big beating,” admitted Scarlett Johansson, who plays the very adept assassin Black Widow. “I would have to say either [Black] Widow or Hawkeye (played by Jeremy Renner). We’re on the ground so we’re fighting hand-to-hand and it hurts.” “I think it’s me, actually,” said Chris Hemsworth, whose demigod Thor sees plenty of action in the film. “When I saw the trailer I thought, ‘I get knocked around the whole time!’ ” Clark Gregg, however, insisted the film’s bad guys get the worst of it, saying it’s the aliens who suffer the most physical abuse. “[And] anybody who crosses the Hulk basically,” he added. Speaking of the villains, Tom Hiddleston, who plays Loki, the evil god of mischief, made a case for his own suffering. “Me,” he said with certainty. “Someone’s got to do it.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Marvel’s The Avengers.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com .

Snow White And The Machine: Florence Welch Tapped For ‘Huntsman’ Soundtrack

‘Breath of Life’ to be featured in Kristen Stewart movie, arriving June 1. By James Montgomery Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine Photo: Universal/ Island Records “Snow White and the Huntsman” doesn’t hit theaters until June 1, but we already have information about the film’s soundtrack — and just who will be involved in it. Namely, Florence and the Machine , who will channel all their ethereal, otherworldly magic into a brand-new song — called “Breath of Life” — for the “Huntsman” soundtrack. We’ve yet to hear “Breath,” but thanks to the good folks at Universal, we know it’s one of many songs featured on the soundtrack and comes backed by a full orchestra and choir. At press time, there’s still no info on who else will join Florence Welch on the soundtrack or when it will be released, but Flo definitely seems like a natural fit for the film, which stars Kristen Stewart as the titular heroine, Charlize Theron as the Evil Queen and Chris Hemsworth as the other titular character, the Huntsman. Judging by an early trailer for the film , this most certainly isn’t your mom’s adaptation of Snow White. Instead, it gets plenty dark and features Snow in full battle mode, armor and all. Late last year, Stewart praised the film and said she was having such a good time filming “Huntsman” that she was already open to making sequels . In particular, she loved punching Hemsworth in the kisser. “It made such a sound, it was in a scene,” Stewart recalled of the big moment. “Girls, if you’ve ever wondered if it works, it works. It literally spun him right around. I was supposed to miss him by this much. I basically knocked him right out of his close-up. It’ll definitely be in the movie.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Snow White and the Huntsman.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . ‘Hunger Games’ Star Liam Hemsworth Is ‘Team Haymitch’

‘Woody Harrelson is one of my favorite actors, and I was really, really excited to see Haymitch come to life,’ Aussie actor tells MTV News. By Kara Warner Liam Hemsworth Photo: MTV News As painful as it has been for us “Hunger Games” fans to wait for the film’s release, imagine how anxious the stars themselves have been to see it. We’ve heard how Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson reacted to seeing the finished film for the first time, and now it’s time to hear what co-star Liam Hemsworth had to say after his first viewing. “It was amazing just to see all the different actors and what they’ve done with it,” Hemsworth told MTV News recently. “Woody Harrelson is one of my favorite actors, and I was really, really excited to see Haymitch come to life. He’s awesome. I’m Team Haymitch all the way; I think he’s amazing. “The movie is intense from beginning to end, and it’s powerful,” Hemsworth added about the finished product. “You have this girl who gives so much hope and courage to everyone, and Jennifer is the perfect person to play it. She pulled it off perfect.” After joking with the Aussie actor about how his brother, “Thor” star Chris Hemsworth , helped him prepare for the initial audition, we asked Liam how he approached his character knowing that, while he doesn’t have a lot of screen time, his role in Katniss’ life is vital. “It does add a little pressure. It’s always harder when you’re coming in for smaller amounts and you have to convey everything that needs to be conveyed in small moments, but the writing was that good that it wasn’t hard,” Hemsworth said of maximizing his screen time. “The director was that good and Jennifer was amazing, so it was all kind of already there.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Hunger Games.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com .
