Awards, Awards, Awards: Critics Choice Blacks Out, NY Critics Weighing In

Awards! So many awards. What will we do with all these awards? Awards everywhere! Awards in your refrigerator, awards in your morning coffee. Awards clogging the 405 and the Holland Tunnel. Sarah Palin shot and killed an award last night on TV. The Metrodome roof didn’t collapse under the weight of snow, as you’ve heard; it was actually from a storm that dumped 17 inches of awards on Minneapolis. And now look: More awards!

‘The Fighter’ Premiere Is End Of A Journey For Mark Wahlberg

‘It was a struggle and a fight the whole way, and it was well worth it,’ star says By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Vanessa White Wolf Mark Wahlberg arrives at “The Fighter” premiere in Hollywood on Monday Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images “I never thought the movie would see the light of day,” Mark Wahlberg said as the flashbulbs popped all around him outside the Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. “It’s incredible.” Well, not only has “The Fighter” seen the light of the day, but it has established itself as a front-runner to nab a slew of Oscar nominations, including a Best Actor nod for Wahlberg. He struggled for years to get cameras rolling on this true story of boxing legend Micky Ward and his brother and trainer Dickie, cycling through directors like Darren Aronofsky and co-stars such as Brad Pitt and Matt Damon. The picture hit one roadblock after another, but Walhberg kept training, no matter how difficult it was. “Just getting up at four in the morning, not knowing if the movie was going to happen or not,” Wahlberg told MTV News about the most challenging aspect of making the film. “Continuing to train when the movie fell apart, when one of my co-stars backed out.” Christian Bale eventually replaced Damon as Dickie and David O. Russell hopped into the director’s chair. But for Wahlberg, that fight to make the movie mirrored his character’s real-life struggle to transform himself from underdog to championship contender. “It was a commitment I made to Micky and Dickie and the rest of the family and to myself that we were going to get this movie made, and it was well worth the fight,” he explained. “The journey of making the movie was very much like Micky’s journey. It was a struggle and a fight the whole way, and it was well worth it. The end result is fantastic.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Fighter.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . 16 Suggested Song Titles For the Ill-Advised American Psycho Musical

Christmas arrived early for fans of both Bret Easton Ellis and musicals this morning via the announcement that the author’s 1991 novel American Psycho — which was memorably adapted into a feature film starring Christian Bale — is being transformed again, this time into musical form. In celebration of this news — and in hopes that it avoids the same disastrous Broadway fate as Spiderman — Movieline suggests a few song titles that composer Duncan Sheik (“Spring Awakening”) will hopefully consider for the first draft, which is expected next year.

Christian Bale Talks ‘Dark Knight Rises’: ‘We’ve Got To Up It’

Actor tells MTV News he’s ‘very excited, because if [‘Batman’ series director Christopher Nolan] maintains, this will be the last one.’ By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Christian Bale Photo: MTV News News about the third installment of Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale’s “Batman” series has been slowly dripping out over the past few months. Nolan officially committed to direct in September, “Inception” actor Tom Hardy joined the cast in October, and a few weeks later, the title, “The Dark Knight Rises,” was announced. So, yes, we’ve been learning snippets of info here and there. All along the way, though, Bale himself hasn’t learned much more than us. “Chris will let me know what I need to know when I need to know it,” Bale told MTV News while promoting “The Fighter.” “It’s our fourth movie together. I probably know a little bit more than some other people out there, but I think most people would be surprised at how little I do know.” One thing Bale does know is that this will bring their “Batman” series to a close . That’s what Nolan said back in March, and that’s what has Bale looking forward to the “Dark Knight Rises” shoot. “Very excited, because if Chris maintains, this will be the last one,” Bale said, adding, “We’ve got to up it.” The production is set to kick off in New Orleans in April . That gives the 36-year-old Bale more than enough time to get into the mind-set of Bruce Wayne. Plus, after working together on two “Batman” flicks and 2006’s “The Prestige,” the pair know what to expect from each other. “It just hasn’t been necessary yet,” Bale explained about not knowing very much about the upcoming film. “I know he’ll give me plenty of time to prepare for whatever I need to, and I’ll discover it. He’s a pretty damn good filmmaker. I trust that he’s going to come up with something wonderful.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Dark Knight Rises.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com .

Did Russell Crowe or Christian Bale Say It? Take Movieline’s Stroppy Actor Quote Quiz

As much as we like to take the piss out of them and/or turn their rages into YouTube remixes and the like, no one should ever take Hollywood’s stroppiest actors for granted. You know the ones: Moody, temperamental, deeply sensitive and often more candid — and more aggressive — than their publicists might recommend. We love them, and we wait for their next outbursts. But how well can we really tell some of the best — including Christian Bale and Russell Crowe — apart? Quiz time!
