Fifty Shades of Grey Movie Hires … Screenwriter Kelly Marcel!

The Fifty Shades of Grey movie announced a key player today. Sadly, it’s not the actors cast as Christian or Ana, but screenwriter Kelly Marcel will play a huge role in bringing the erotic young adult novel trilogy to life. Marcel was the creator of Terra Nova and penned the new Disney film Saving Mr. Banks , which stars Tom Hanks, Emma Thompson and Colin Farrell. The Fifty Shades of Grey movie offers quite a departure from that in terms of subject matter, but producers Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti lauded her abilities. ” Kelly’s work demonstrates her flawless structural technique and passionate commitment to emotion, humor and depth of character,” De Luca said in a press release. Brunetti adds, “We were all taken with the depth and passion of Kelley’s engagement with the characters and world E.L. James created … we knew she was the right person.” Speculation over who the right person is for the lead, billionaire character and his young female paramour has run rampant online for months on end. Fifty Shades of Grey Movie Hires … Screenwriter Kelly Marcel!

50 Shades Of Grey Hires Saving Mr Banks Writer (Tom Hardy For Christian Grey, Anyone?)

The kinky erotic pop phenomenon 50 Shades of Grey has finally landed — or shall we say, tied down — a writer! British actress/scribe Kelly Marcel, who co-created the short-lived Steven Spielberg-produced series Terra Nova and scripted the upcoming Mary Poppins pic Saving Mr. Banks , will adapt E.L. James’ S&M romance about a young woman who falls for Christian Grey , a damaged dreamboat with a bondage fetish. Marcel’s a surprise choice for the hot property given her relatively scant writing credits; here’s hoping her script keeps all the salaciously sexy allure of the books, which will be one of the bigger challenges Universal and Focus face with their big-screen adaptation. One hurdle: Making a 50 Shades of Grey movie that’s half as great as this fan-made trailer : Oh, man. Never gets old . Once a script’s in place, the next trick will be casting their perfect Christian Grey . Someone not too old, not too young, the picture of male perfection and virility. An actor capable of pulling off both brute sensual dominance and crippling emotional trauma. A dude who knows how to wear a suit. Well, Marcel did co-found a theater company with Tom Hardy after the two worked together on Nicholas Refn’s Bronson , which she re-wrote. (Another fun fact: Dad Terry Marcel wrote and directed 1980’s Hawk the Slayer .) Maybe she can make a phone call… who’s down with casting Tom Hardy as Christian Grey? The official press release: UNIVERSAL CITY, CA, October 8, 2012—Universal Pictures and Focus Features today announced that Kelly Marcel will write the screenplay to the highly anticipated film adaptation of “Fifty Shades of Grey.” Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti will produce the film based on E L James’ #1 bestselling book, alongside James. The announcement was made by Universal Pictures Co-Chairman, Donna Langley and Focus Features’ Chief Executive Officer, James Schamus. Marcel wrote the 2011 Black List script, Saving Mr. Banks , the story of Walt Disney’s twenty-year pursuit of the film rights to author P.L. Travers’ novel, “Mary Poppins,” and the rocky relationship that formed between the two. The film is currently in production at Walt Disney Studios starring Tom Hanks, Emma Thompson and Colin Farrell with John Lee Hancock directing. Marcel served as the co-creator and executive producer of the Amblin/FOX-TV series Terra Nova, for which she wrote the series’ pilot episode. She will also produce The Madonnas Of Echo Park for HBO. “Kelly’s work demonstrates her flawless structural technique and passionate commitment to emotion, humor and depth of character which is particularly visible in the celebrated screenplay for the upcoming Saving Mr. Banks,” said De Luca. “We were all taken with the depth and passion of Kelly’s engagement with the characters and world E L James has created, and we knew she was the right person to augment our Fifty Shades family,” added Brunetti. Universal Pictures and Focus Features acquired the rights to the three books in the “Fifty Shades of Grey” trilogy in March of this year. Focus Features will market and distribute the first film in partnership with Universal. “Fifty Shades of Grey” has become a global phenomenon and the trilogy has been translated in 45 languages worldwide since its release. In the U.S. alone, the “Fifty Shades” trilogy has sold over 32 million copies in e-book and print, making it one of the fastest selling book series ever. “Fifty Shades of Grey” follows the relationship of 27-year-old billionaire Christian Grey and college student Anastasia Steele. Subsequent novels in the series, “Fifty Shades Darker” (September 2011) and “Fifty Shades Freed” (January 2012) explore the couple’s deepening relationship. Fifty Shades of Grey Author Hints At Cameo; Stays Silent On Leads

Her novels have sold 40 million copies worldwide and the pending film version of the trilogy’s first installment has fans guessing worldwide who will play the male lead with nearly every hot young actor in Hollywood a possible contender. So what is a wildly successful author to do as an encore? Well, be in the movie of course! British author E.L. James, the mind behind the ever-so-hot Fifty Shades of Grey series said on the Katie Couric daytime talk show that she is eyeing a possible cameo in the big-screen adaptation of the novel, revealing that one of the smaller characters in the book is actually based on herself. Speculation persisted all summer who would play the irresistible young business magnate Christian Grey and the guessing game flared up again recently between the possibilities of Alexander Skarsgård vs. Ryan Gosling at the recent Toronto International Film Festival (http://movieline.com/2012/09/17/ryan-gosling-alexander-skarsgard-fifty-shades-of-grey/). James remained silent on who she expects to take on the lead roles, though she has several in mind, but that was the extent of her reveal: “I have three people who could play Christian and I think four who could play Ana, and I’m not going to tell you any of them,” she is quoted saying on the show via The Guardian . She did, however, say that she appears in the book and may pursue being cast in the minor role as a cameo. “I’ve actually written myself into the book. I play a very tiny cameo role and I might try and do that if I’m asked to … we’ll see,” she said, adding, “It’d be interesting to know if people can find me in the books.” Set mostly in Seattle, Fifty Shades of Grey revolves around a virgin college senior who is swept up by a the dashing Christian Grey into an erotic frenzy. No telling how palatable the book’s sexual scenes involving bondage and sadism/masochism will be for producers. Universal optioned the novel for $5 million in March and it will be overseen by the producers of The Social Network , Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti. [ Source: BBC ]

Marlon Jackson Breaks Down, Asks: Where is My Mother?!?

Here is the latest in the ever-growing Jackson family saga: With Katherine Jackson supposedly safe and sound in Arizona, Marlon, Tito and Jackie Jackson appeared on The Insider yesterday and expressed consternation and anger over the whereabouts of their mother. “We’ve been told that our mother is safe,” Marlon told Kevin Frazier. “She’s doing well. But we have not spoken to her. We have not talked to her and I don’t know where my mother is.” The brother of Michael Jackson then choked up and grew animated. He lashed out: “All I know is she is in Arizona, and whatever doctor is saying I can’t talk to my mother you call ME!” Marlon’s sibling, Randy, claims he whisked Katherine off to Arizona under doctor’s orders. But no one has been able to explain why she’s gone nearly two weeks now without making any contact with some of her kids and all three of her grandchildren. As a result of this mystery, TJ Jackson is pursuing legal avenues to take over guardianship of Paris, Prince and Blanket (MJ’s daughter and sons). Most believe this giant mess is related to Michael Jackson’s will, which is being contested by Randy Jackson because it leaves the entirety of the singer’s estate to his children and he’s now using Katherine to try and get the document invalidated. Tito Jackson, however, backed away from that plot this week, publicly stating that he wanted nothing to do with a letter sent by Jermaine, Janet, Rebbie and Randy that challenged the authority and actions of the executor’s of MJ’s will. “I completely retract my signature from the July 17th letter sent to the Executors of my brother Michael’s estate and repudiate all the claims made against them,” Tito told TMZ. “I don’t want any part of that letter whatsoever.”

She’s read the books so I don’t think she’d be impressed if she couldn’t be Ana!” Tatum is married to actress Jenna Dewan. But she might need to get in line behind Emma Watson, who is reportedly a leading candidate for the character of Anastasia Steele . Other actors that have expressed interest in portraying Christian include Ian Somerhalder, Ryan Gosling, and Alexander Skarsgard. Would you want to see Tatum in this sexy role?
